'US will try to set roadblocks on yuan’s path to get reserve currency status’

The US is unhappy with Beijing challenging it in regard to the reserve status of the dollar as China’s economy is growing and the yuan is becoming more attractive for other nations to hold, Robert Wenzel publisher of Economic Policy Journal.com told RT.

The IMF is debating whether to make China's yuan a new reserve currency, according to the Financial Times. If Beijing is included in the Special Drawing Rights (SDR) basket it will have better access to capital, it will be easier to take out loans, and China's political influence will be expended.

Chinese president sets off for tour of Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus

The Chinese leader will first visit Kazakhstan’s capital Astana where he will stay until May 8.
The upcoming visit "will show China’s political support for the Kazakh leader" and "the high level of strategic confidence and quality of relations between the two countries," Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Gopin said.
The Chinese president will visit Moscow on May 8-10 where he will hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said on Wednesday that some 40 documents in the spheres of energy, transport, military and technical cooperation are expected to be signed during the visit.
Xi will later travel to Belarus to hold talks with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
The heads of state will discuss a project of creating a joint industrial park in Belarus and also the issues of trade, customs procedures, education, culture and tourism.

China has urged Japan to acknowledge its aggressive past as the world marks 70 years since the end of World War II, a spokeswoman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
"We hope Japan will hear an appeal of the international community and will sincerely acknowledge its aggressive past," said Hua Chunying, referring to an appeal to the Japanese authorities signed by 187 scientists from China, South Korea, the United States and other countries.
"Japan has yet to look into the past and its action, achieve trust from the international community," the diplomat noted.
China says it lost 35 million lives during Japanese aggression of 1937-1945. According to it, Japanese chemical weapons used against Chinese troops and civilians could still be found in the country.

CFR Says China Must Be Defeated, & TPP Is Essential to That

Wall Street’s Council on Foreign Relations has issued a major report, alleging that China must be defeated because it threatens to become a bigger power in the world than the U.S.

This report, which is titled “Revising U.S. Grand Strategy Toward China,” is introduced by Richard Haass, the CFR’s President, who affirms the report’s view that, “no relationship will matter more when it comes to defining the twenty-first century than the one between the United States and China.” He says that the report he is publishing argues that “strategic rivalry is highly likely if not inevitable between the existing major power of the day and the principal rising power.” Haass says that the authors “also argue that China has not evolved into the ‘responsible stakeholder’ that many in the United States hoped it would.” In other words: “cooperation” with China will probably need to become replaced by, as the report’s authors put it, “intense U.S.-China strategic competition.”

Russia is creating a $100 billion rival to the IMF

Russian President Vladimir Putin ratified an accord Saturday to set up a $100 billion reserve fund for the so-called BRICS — the leading emerging economies Russia, China, Brazil, India, and South Africa.

Moscow is expected to contribute $18 billion to the reserve, well behind the $41 billion China has promised to pour into the fund, which was set up after an agreement signed in July in Brazil.

The emerging economies also plan to form their own international bank based in Shanghai to challenge western dominance over international money markets.

Silk Road Project May Facilitate Resolution of South China Sea Disputes

The 21st Century Maritime Silk Road project may facilitate the resolution of the longstanding South China Sea maritime disputes, Chinese media suggested.

The disputes involve at least six parties, particularly China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei, Malaysia and Taiwan. It should be noted, though, that Brunei has revoked its territorial claim over Louisa Reef in the Spratlys. Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines make claims to major islands or island chains as well as maritime boundaries.

At the same time the area claimed by China covers most of the South China Sea, overlapping territorial claims of other nations.

Sixteen people killed in cold blood by the Mexican Federal Police; unarmed people of an auto-defense movement – in January 2015; just discovered by a team of investigative journalists.

Mexicans well remember the mass killing of 43 Ayotzinapa students of last September, unarmed students of a college that caters to the rural poor, who were protesting the government’s education reform which would make school unaffordable for the poor. Their killing was provoked by the police in connivance with drug cartels.
