Southern California's deadly wildfire roars back to life and burns through 50 acres in 30 MINUTES fanned by hurricane-force winds as statewide death toll climbs to 50

Two deadly wildfires continued to burn largely out of control in California on Wednesday - driven by tinder-dry conditions and hurricane-strength winds.

In the south, the Woolsey Fire ripped through 50 acres in the Santa Monica Mountains in 30 minutes on Tuesday morning as gusts of 85mph caused a flare-up, even as thousands of people were allowed back to their homes.

Meanwhile in the north, six more bodies were found among the ashes of Paradise - a town completely incinerated by the fire - bringing the death toll from that fire alone to 48, the deadliest in state history.

The state-wide death toll now stands at 50, including a couple who died in the Woolsey Fire, though more than 200 people are still unaccounted for.

Armed And Delicious

He’s armed and delicious’: Pittsfield police share video of turkey chasing cruiser

Pittsfield police have launched a joint investigation with officers in nearby Cheshire after a feathered culprit tried to chase down a cruiser this week.

Cheshire Police Officer Dylan Vandoloski was on patrol recently when he realized he was being tailed by a suspect trotting close behind: a turkey.
***
Derby said the turkey shown in the video likely isn’t just a stray bird trying to scare people off ahead of Thanksgiving — based on feedback he’s received after sharing the clip, the animal is apparently known around Cheshire for its antics, he said.
***
This certainly isn’t the first time that a turkey has antagonized an officer of the law — or a person from Massachusetts, for that matter.

New hurdle arises in Pelosi’s march to speakership

Democrats in the Problem Solvers Caucus are proving to be the latest hurdle to Rep. Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) rise to the Speakership.

Ten Democrats in the bipartisan, 48-member group are vowing to withhold their support for Pelosi - or any other Speaker nominee - unless the candidate commits, in writing, to certain changes in House rules designed to empower rank-and-file lawmakers and break partisan gridlock.
***
If some Republicans cross the aisle and back Pelosi for Speaker, they will have some cover from the White House. A day after Republicans' midterm drubbing, Trump endorsed Pelosi for Speaker and even suggested some Republicans should vote for her.

"In all fairness, Nancy Pelosi deserves to be chosen Speaker of the House by the Democrats," Trump tweeted. "If they give her a hard time, perhaps we will add some Republican votes. She has earned this great honor!"

California: Woolsey Fire Burns Nuclear Meltdown Site That State Toxics Agency Failed to Clean Up

Last night, the Woolsey fire burned the contaminated Santa Susana Field Laboratory (SSFL), a former nuclear and rocket engine testing site. Footage from local television showed flames surrounding rocket test stands, and the fire’s progress through to Oak Park indicates that much of the toxic site burned.

A statement released by the California Dept. of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) said that its staff,

“do not believe the fire has caused any releases of hazardous materials that would pose a risk to people exposed to the smoke.”

The statement failed to assuage community concerns given DTSC’s longtime pattern of misinformation about SSFL’s contamination and its repeated broken promises to clean it up.

Gillum: "We Are Not Going To Be Hushed, We Are Not Going To Be Sat Aside"

Tallahassee mayor and Democratic candidate for governor Andrew Gillum spoke at a largely African-American church Sunday, warning against vote suppression as Florida's Governor and Senator elections go to a recount.

Gillum also defended controversial Broward County Elections Supervisor Brenda Snipes in a campaign-style speech at the church. The Democratic candidate implied Snipes, initially an appointee by then-Gov. Jeb Bush, is receiving criticism because she is an African-American woman.

California's Gov. Brown Again Blames Fires On Global Warming — He Couldn't Be More Wrong

California once again is burning, with hundreds of thousands of tinder-dry acres going up in flames. Gov. Jerry Brown says it's global warming. President Trump blames forest mismanagement. Who's right?

On Saturday, Trump tweeted: "There is no reason for these massive, deadly and costly forest fires in California except that forest management is so poor. Billions of dollars are given each year, with so many lives lost, all because of gross mismanagement of the forests. Remedy now, or no more Fed payments!"

Brown's take was, well, different: "Managing all the forests in everywhere we can does not stop climate change," he said. "And those who deny that are definitely contributing to the tragedies that we're now witnessing, and will continue to witness in the coming years."

Southern California's wildfire roars back to life again and prompts new evacuations as 'hurricane-force gusts' and dry conditions continue threat looming over area

Just when it seemed things were finally starting to calm down, Southern California's huge wildfire has roared back to life again.

A massive plume rose suddenly in the Santa Monica Mountains on Tuesday morning, prompting new evacuations at the same time thousands of residents are being allowed back in their neighborhoods.

Authorities sent aircraft to drop retardant and water on the new blaze as it broke out near the community of Lake Sherwood.

Forecasters had warned of continuing fire danger in Southern California due to persistent Santa Ana winds, the withering, dry gusts that sweep out of the interior toward the coast, pushing back moist ocean breezes.

‘Completely safe’: Monsanto owner Bayer hit by new wave of lawsuits over Roundup weed killer

German chemicals and pharmaceuticals giant Bayer disclosed that lawsuits from 9,300 plaintiffs were pending at the end of October. The lawsuits allege that the company’s recently acquired weed-killing product causes cancer.

Plaintiffs claim that Roundup weed killers, which Bayer acquired in its takeover of US agrochemical firm Monsanto, made them ill and that the company knew or should have known of the risks but failed to warn adequately.

Bayer rejected all the accusations, claiming there are hundreds of scientific studies and regulatory authorities that show glyphosate, the compound contained in the weed killers, is safe to use.

What Everyone Gets Wrong About Hunter S. Thompson

A literature professor explains what everyone gets wrong about Hunter S. Thompson
Timothy Denevi, author of “Freak Kingdom,” details how Hunter S. Thompson "is really good at trying to see what’s necessary and not, in terms of justice."

It's easy to appreciate Hunter S. Thompson first and foremost for his style, for that famous Gonzo prose knocked off so often (and often so poorly) it's almost startling to revisit his work and realize how clear-eyed and articulate both his fear and loathing always were on the page. In Timothy Denevi's new biography, "Freak Kingdom: Hunter S. Thompson's Ten-Year Crusade Against American Fascism," fear and loathing receive a re-appraisal as the rhetorical framework that Thompson employed deliberately and with very specific ends in mind while creating some of the most influential journalism of the 1960s and '70s.

Florida Midterm Election Drama: The Sun Is Finally Shining On Deep State Darkness

If you haven’t been following the drama coming out of Florida’s Broward and Palm Beach Counties since the Midterm Election polls closed on Tuesday night, I would like to alert you to the fact that it is an event worth paying attention to. Not necessarily because it is a prime example of election fraud, which it certainly is.
