Elizabeth Warren Proposes $640 Billion Student Debt Relief

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) proposed Monday a new $640 billion student college debt relief program that would also eliminate college tuition for all two and four-year public colleges.
The 2020 Democrat presidential candidate unveiled the ambitious policy proposal as she attempts to distinguish herself from the large and progressive Democrat field. Warren released the proposal ahead of a series of youth-oriented CNN town halls Monday night with 2020 presidential candidates at Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire.

“It’s a problem for all of us,” Warren noting, that student college debt has reached more than $1.5 trillion and affects more than 40 million Americans. “It’s reducing home ownership rates. It’s leading fewer people to start businesses. It’s forcing students to drop out of school before getting a degree.”

Christian Educator Fired After Protesting LGBT Teaching in School

A school assistant from England was dismissed after someone reportedly complained to her employer that she shared posts slamming relationship lessons on Facebook. The woman says she paid with her job for Christian beliefs and was discriminated against.

Forty-three-year-old mother of two Kristie Higgs was fired for “gross misconduct” from Farmor's School in Fairford, Gloucestershire after she stood up against so-called relationship education pushed by the government.

“It had everything to do with my Christianity. To suggest otherwise is ridiculous”, she insisted in the interview with the Daily Mail.

Hysteria Over School Safety Won’t Keep Us Safe

By James Bovard

Numerous Indiana elementary school teachers were shot in January as part of a “safe schools” training program. According to the Indiana State Teachers Association, sheriff deputies ordered teachers “into a room four at a time, told them to crouch down and then shot them execution-style with pellets in rapid succession,” leaving several of them bloodied and many of them screaming in terror. The teachers union is “is lobbying lawmakers to add [legislative] language prohibiting teachers from being shot with any sort of ammunition” during school safety drills, according to the Indianapolis Star.

The Indiana program was part of the school lockdown drills occurring across the nation spurred in part by a Colorado massacre that occurred twenty years ago on April 20...

Bill would offer in-state tuition to undocumented students at Oregon graduate schools

State lawmakers are looking to expand in-state tuition.

If it's voted into law, SB 859 would allow undocumented students to pay in-state tuition for public Oregon graduate programs if they:

Qualified for undergraduate tuition equity

Attended Oregon K-12 schools for at least three years, or went to a U.S. school for a minimum of five years

Demonstrate intent to become a U.S. citizen

According to the Higher Education Coordinating Commission, this would currently affect about 250 students.

Lori Loughlin’s Daughter Now Officially Being Investigated by Feds

Multiple sources are saying that one of the daughters of Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli is now officially being investigated by the Department of Justice over her role in the college bribery scandal.

Daily Mail reported that one of the couple’s two daughters received a letter from federal prosecutors in Massachusetts earlier this month saying that she is the subject of an investigation that could result in her being hit with criminal charges.

“It is a not-so-veiled threat,” said an insider who saw the letter. “[The US Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts] is making it pretty clear that they have evidence that very strongly suggests she knew of the illegal plot.”

WORKERS FIND DOZENS OF ALLEGED SECRET GRAVES AT JUVENILE INSTITUTION WHERE BOYS WERE TORTURED, RAPED

Workers preparing to cleanup a fuel storage site near the infamous Dozier reform school—Florida’s first juvenile justice institution—discovered something far worse then pollution. Evidence of more than two dozen “clandestine” child graves was discovered as workers tested the ground.

Shockingly enough, this is the second time secret graves for tortured and raped children have been found nearby the school.

A report out of the Miami Herald detailed the horrific discovery this week:

A company hired to evaluate underground storage tanks adjacent to the Dozier School for Boys in Marianna performed a series of ground-penetrating radar tests on a parcel a little less than 500 feet from what is called the Boot Hill Cemetery at Dozier, an infamous youth prison linked to more than a century of chilling abuse.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A society can be judged by how it treats the most fragile members; but the question in my mind is, how in the name of heaven did these kids wind up in one of the most reprehensibly abusive environments to which they could have possibly been sent, with absolutely no one to advocate for them ?!?

My bet is that most of them were poor, and with no cohesive family around them.

Does any child on this planet, even if they may have been "acting out" , deserve this?!? The short answer is, HELL no!

And yet, we see the pattern emerging over and over, where the rich and powerful believe that they have the "right" to indulge in these horrific behaviours because they are "different" from the the rest of us, and tend to come out of legal situations relating to this kind of behaviour, with barely the proverbial "slap on the wrist". If anyone wants any proof of this, I submit to you the trial of Jeffrey Epstein last year.

Jeffrey Epstein: sex offender reaches settlement, averting victim testimonies

I would suggest that these "testimonies" would have gotten Epstein locked away for a long, long time;, but in this country, as elsewhere, money and power buys a lot of law-breaking and impunity; that is simply the reality.

Israeli Apartheid Week stands out for especially virulent antisemitic tactics

***
Harvard University’s undergraduate council voted on Sunday to give $2,050 to the Palestine Solidarity Committee to add to their IAW a physical “Wall of Resistance,” sponsored by 14 students groups, including Harvard College Democrats, Palestinian speakers and a student panel, reported the school’s newspaper, The Harvard Crimson.

The anti-Israel speakers included Princeton University professor and political activist Cornel West and Temple University professor Marc Lamont Hill, who was fired by CNN in November as a contributor for calling for “a Free Palestine From the River to the Sea.”

“This openly anti-Zionist event frequently crossed the line into outright antisemitism, including conflations of Zionism with ‘white supremacy,’ and enthusiastic chants to free Palestine ‘from the river to the sea,’ which is commonly understood as a call for the destruction of Israel as a Jewish state,” CAMERA campus coordinator Zac Schildcrout told JNS. “These radical ideas that demonize Jews are bigoted and should be passionately countered by the Harvard community.”

The funding came from the student government’s Grant for an Open Harvard College that subsidizes “compelling interests”>>>

Wall Street Is Now Buying College Students Like Stocks

Shortly after we wrote about an online software engineering school that was allowing students to pay their tuition by forfeiting 17% of their income after they graduated, it's becoming clearer that the model of selling an "equity stake in yourself" to fund tuition is making its way to the mainstream.

Equitizing students was the topic of an in-depth Bloomberg Businessweek look into the details of what Americans are doing to combat the $1.6 trillion in higher education debt that they owe. Specifically, the article followed the path of 23 year old Amy Wroblewski, who has been literally turning over a set percentage of her salary to investors - and will do so for the 8 1/2 years after graduating college.

'Boobus Americanus', The CIA, & How The PC Movement Is Destroying The World

Authored by Justin Spittler via CaseyResearch.com,

As longtime readers know, our founder Doug Casey isn’t just a world-class speculator. He’s a rare, independent thinker and a walking encyclopedia. Best of all, he isn’t afraid to speak his mind… even if that means offending people.

That’s a rare commodity these days.

Today, people would rather be “politically correct”…

And that’s a big mistake.

According to Doug, this “PC” movement is just “one more termite eating away at the foundations of Western civilization itself.”

The Assault on Campus Free Speech Doesn’t Just Come from Liberals

By Elias Atienza

The free speech wars flared up again in March when President Donald Trump signed an executive order tying federal research funding to protections for free speech on college campuses. Many conservatives see the free speech battle as a partisan affair, with endless media coverage of leftist protesters shouting down speakers or shutting down venues. But this narrative doesn’t tell the entire story: free speech is under attack from the right, too...

Harvard undergrad council votes to fund Israeli Apartheid Week

Harvard University’s Undergraduate Council (UC) voted to allocate the Palestine Solidarity Committee (PSC) $2,050 to host Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW) at Sunday’s general meeting.

The interests for the 2018-19 academic year are “mental health, race, culture, and faith relations, sexual assault and harassment prevention, social spaces, and financial accessibility.”

The report stated that “the PSC planned much of the programming of Harvard’s event, which began on March 30 and runs until April 4”, including “Palestinian speakers, a student panel, an unveiling of a physical Wall of Resistance, and a movie screening”.

Yemeni child soldiers recruited by Saudi-UAE coalition

Al Jazeera has obtained exclusive footage that proves the presence of child soldiers in the recruitment camps of the Saudi-UAE-led coalition fighting in Yemen.

The children, desperately poor, are being recruited to fight along the Saudi border to defend it from the Houthis, a rebel group that overran the capital, Sanaa, and large swaths of Yemen's northwest in 2014.

In 2015, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) formed a coalition to overthrow the Houthis - plunging Yemen into a ruinous war - supported by forces loyal to the country's internationally recognised government.

The conflict has created the world's worst humanitarian crisis, pushing Yemen to the brink of famine and leaving about 80 percent of its population - 24 million people - in need of humanitarian assistance.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Al Jazeera should be commended on this issue; these kids belong in school, getting the education they need, and not armed with shotguns and bombs.

That the Saudis think of them as "collateral damage", is chilling.

The Future of Education is Borderless

By Steven Maxwell

The entire formal education apparatus seems to reinforce the repetition of learning from past generations rather than forging new ideas and new applications for a world changing at an increasingly rapid pace. As Internet connectivity expands and the speed of accessing information increases, the opportunities for formal learning should also accelerate. After all, information itself is already borderless for much of the world’s population that has access to a free and open Internet. One would have to assume that the barriers for entry to the information contained within the world’s universities also should fall...

College Distributes List of Things Students Should Think

Amherst College in Massachusetts just did something so ridiculous that it actually had to reverse course, and that never happens.

The Office of Diversity & Inclusion posted and emailed to students a 36-page “Common Language Guide.”

You’re probably thinking: another speech code. Been there, done that.

This thing went way beyond that.

It tells students what words are to be taken to mean, and, in effect, how they are to think about them.

10-year-old girl dies after classroom fight

A 10-year-old girl has died two days after she was injured in a fight with a fellow pupil at her primary school.

RaNiya Wright was found unresponsive by staff at the Forest Hills Elementary School in the South Carolina of Walterboro, after she got into an altercation with another Year 5 student on Monday.

They called the emergency services and RaNiya was taken to hospital where she remained alive, until she passed away on Wednesday.

The other student involved in the fight, who has not been identified, has been suspended from the school, according to NBC News.

“Because this is an ongoing investigation, we ask that the community understands that the information we can share is limited,” district officials said in a statement.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Condolences to the child's parents and family; but what I am curious about, is why these kinds of incidents generally happen in US public schools, not at Montessori, Kumon, or Waldorf schools?!?

And what about the moral values of the family of the ten year old who killed her?!? Is killing your schoolmate something that the family of the accused might feel was OK?!?

IF our Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, wants to make education in this country on a par with that of Asia, or Scandinavia, she had better start privatizing education, both for the reason of lowered violence, and better education.

In a historic move, the College Council at Pitzer College voted to suspend a study abroad in Israel program on 14 March.

Executive Order on Improving Free Inquiry, Transparency, and Accountability at Colleges and Universities

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered as follows:

Section 1. Purpose. The purpose of this order is to enhance the quality of postsecondary education by making it more affordable, more transparent, and more accountable. Institutions of higher education (institutions) should be accountable both for student outcomes and for student life on campus.

In particular, my Administration seeks to promote free and open debate on college and university campuses. Free inquiry is an essential feature of our Nation’s democracy, and it promotes learning, scientific discovery, and economic prosperity. We must encourage institutions to appropriately account for this bedrock principle in their administration of student life and to avoid creating environments that stifle competing perspectives, thereby potentially impeding beneficial research and undermining learning.

The average college freshman in America reads at a 7th grade level

The average U.S. college freshman reads at a seventh grade level, according to an educational assessment report.

“We are spending billions of dollars trying to send students to college and maintain them there when, on average, they read at about the grade 6 or 7 level, according to Renaissance Learning’s latest report on what American students in grades 9-12 read, whether assigned or chosen,” said education expert Dr. Sandra Stotsky.

Stotsky, a Professor Emerita at the University of Arkansas, served on the Common Core Validation Committee in 2009-10, during which she called the standards “inferior.” She claimed the Common Core left out the very standards needed to prepare students for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) careers.

Marxism, the Frankfurt School, and the Leftist Takeover of the College Campus

How did socialism become mainstream? Look no farther than modern-day socialism's roots: Marxism. When one observes the modern political scene occupied by the likes of Bernie Sanders and Kamala Harris, one observes nothing but modern-day Marxism. When one observes the modern-day college campus, one observes nothing but the Marxist-leftist indoctrination of America's youth.

When Marxism is considered, it is often viewed through an economic lens. Karl Marx's ideas of historical materialism, the exploitation of the proletariat by the bourgeoisie, and class-based division are staples of American collegiate academia. Any second-year university student, no matter his degree path, has already been taught from the enlightened minds of Marx and Engels. However, what if these ideas of Marxism go much deeper than mere economics? What if Marxist philosophy has extended to every facet of the American college campus?

SAUDI STUDENTS IN US COMPLAIN OF THREATS, INTIMIDATION BY MBS

All the students interviewed for the story said that the government under Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, known also as MBS, makes a point of ensuring that students studying abroad under the kingdom’s scholarship programme know that they are being watched.

As many as 60,000 Saudi students are said to be currently studying in the US and nearly 40,000 have scholarships from the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Education that provide full tuition, health insurance and a monthly stipend.

Spying on students, which is said to have increased under MBS, is said to be having a chilling effect. “Every Saudi student in the US is too scared to have an opinion, even in our own hangouts. No one can criticize the government … and there’s no second chance. If they take away your scholarship, that’s it,” said Abdulrahman Al-Mutairy, an outspoken student at the University of San Diego.

Pitzer College battle over suspending Israel study program shows divide on the left over BDS

Last Thursday, Pitzer College’s governing council took a historic vote to suspend a program of study at the University of Haifa because of Israel’s discriminatory policies. And just three hours later that resolution was vetoed, emphatically, by the college president.

I am told that President Melvin Oliver’s veto is now roiling the small progressive college in Claremont, California. Pitzer presidents have never vetoed a College Council resolution before, per the press. Pitzer prides itself on democratic governance, giving students a voice in school policies. The vote to suspend the program was overwhelming, 67-28; and the voters comprised nearly 60 faculty, about 35 students, and some 10 staff too.

Many are reportedly angry about the veto, and students have circulated a petition condemning Oliver that has gotten several hundred signatures nationwide, some with real throw-weight.

Top US General Denies Plans to Leave 1,000 Troops in Syria

US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Joe Dunford issued a statement Monday denying weekend media reports that the US plans to leave around 1,000 troops in Syria, saying the reports are “factually incorrect.”

Dunford presented the current planned “residual force” as 200, saying that this hadn’t changed since February. The US announced 200 would stay on February 21, but on February 22 officially increased that number to 400.

It’s not clear from Dunford’s statement where the “incorrect” aspect of the new report, which came out of a Wall Street Journal, exists. That report suggested that the 1,000 figure was not yet finalized, but was being discussed. Dunford’s comments didn’t include any details on what is actually being discussed, but just that nothing was finalized.

But it looks like the president’s son-in-law, holder of Ivanka’s hand and a security clearance he didn’t earn, was ahead of the curve. Author Daniel Golden put Jared Kushner’s game on front street in his 2006 book, The Price of Admission, where he questioned how Kushner, a mediocre student at best, was accepted to one of America’s most prestigious institutions: Harvard.

Hungry, unwashed children fill our schools – how has it come to this?

According to a survey from the headteachers’ union, the Association of School and College Leaders, schools have become “an unofficial fourth emergency service” for the families worst affected by austerity across England and Wales.

A majority of the 400 school leaders surveyed said schools were increasingly forced to help pupils, despite less help from councils, and have had to cut budgets. Schools are helping with food parcels, equipment, shoes and hygiene – nine out of 10 give out clothes, while nearly half do laundry for them. Some are running impromptu food banks or sourcing beds.

UK school suspends homosexual lessons indefinitely in face of protests

A school in Britain's second largest city of Birmingham has decided to indefinitely suspend lessons on normalizing gay marriage in the face of continued protests by Muslim parents who believe the program is harmful for their children.

Parkfield community school in Birmingham’s Saltley said on Thursday that the so-called No Outsiders lessons, which parents say had been aimed at promoting gay and transgender lifestyles, would be suspended until a resolution is reached on the controversial issue.

“Until a resolution has been reached, No Outsiders lessons will not be taught at Parkfield and we hope that children will not be removed from school to take part in protests,” the school said in a statement.

Report: College Admissions Scandal Discovered with Parent’s Tip of Yale Coach’s Bribe Offer

A tip that the women’s soccer coach at Yale University offered to label an executive’s daughter as a recruit in exchange for cash led to the discovery of the largest school admissions scandal ever prosecuted, the Associated Press (AP) reported Thursday.

The executive had already been targeted in a securities fraud investigation, an anonymous law enforcement official said, according to the report. The executive told Boston authorities who were working on the market fraud case that Rudy Meredith, the former women’s soccer coach at Yale University in Connecticut, told him he would identify his daughter as a recruit in exchange for cash.

When Students Want to Review a Tenured Professor

A group of student activists at Sarah Lawrence College want the tenure of a conservative professor of political science reviewed, and they want to do the reviewing.

The professor, Samuel Abrams, says the college should be doing more to defend him and, more generally, academic freedom and the “viewpoint diversity” that he advocates.

Abrams -- who has identified himself as an anti-Trump, moderate conservative -- has always been a political outlier within the overwhelmingly liberal college. But things have been especially tense for him since he wrote an New York Times op-ed in October, saying that student affairs administrators are even more liberal than faculty members.

Singer's Affirmative Action Fraud

The essay and test fraud seems pretty ho-hum, while the sports fraud is wild: I can imagine a million ways for it to go wrong, like you are a football coach and you take a bribe to get some uncoordinated rich kid admitted as your ace placekicker and then your real placekicker gets hurt and the dean who has had his eye on your scam insists you send out that dork you swore was the next Adam Vinatieri and the kid whiffs the field goal and and then goes all Garo Yepremian and you lose the Big Game by one:

It is bizarre that parents are paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to get their kids admitted at mid-range colleges as athletes in sports they don’t play. I mean, I could imagine some super competitive sideline dad whose kid is pretty good at a sport bribing a coach to admit his kid so he can brag to his brother-in-law that you didn’t think it would pay off, but now my boy is USC’s pole vaulter.

50 College Courses the Prove Universities Are Training Students to Become Socialists

Many major colleges and universities have become indoctrination centers for progressive ideology instead of training young adults for their future careers. A recent poll showed that 49.6% of Millennials and Generation Z would prefer to live in a socialist country, which has enormous implications for the future of our society. Progressives have a stranglehold on higher education in the US, and they are training future generations of leaders to think just like them. The list of classes that teach socialism include Great Political Thinkers: Machiavelli to Marx, Ecofeminism, Global HipHop and Social Justice, Racial Capitalism, Queering the Bible, Queering Childhood and more…

Webmaster's Commentary:

I wonder how those students feel about socialism when those student loans come due.

Actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin were among more than four dozen people charged in a nationwide college admissions cheating scandal that involved wealthy individuals paying up to $6.5 million to place their children into elite universities, according to court records revealed Tuesday.

The alleged scam -- which involved students being placed into top colleges such as Yale, Georgetown, Stanford, University of Southern California, UCLA and the University of Texas -- was run by a man in California, William Rick Singer, who helped parents get their children into the schools through bribes, court documents unsealed in Boston showed. Officials have been investigating the scam for more than a year.

Felicity Huffman, Lori Loughlin among actresses, CEOs charged in alleged college admissions scam

Federal prosecutors in Boston on Tuesday charged 50 people, including the actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin, in the largest college admissions cheating scam ever prosecuted in the United States.

Authorities say the operation, dubbed Varsity Blues, uncovered 33 parents described by US Attorney Andrew Lelling as a "catalog of wealth and privilege" who collectively paid $25 million to a college admissions counselor named William Singer, who pleaded guilty and agreed to cooperate in an investigation into what Lelling called the "widening corruption of elite college admissions."

In exchange for the money, Singer allegedly bribed college officials, coaches and college entrance exam administrators, who then helped students secure admissions "not on their merits but through fraud," Lelling said.

Officials say 13 people were arrested by the FBI in Los Angeles -- including the actresses, who are in custody without incident.
