ISIS comrades: Egyptian terrorist group swears allegiance to ISIS

Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, considered Egypt’s most powerful and deadly terrorist group, announced that it has sworn its allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria in a statement released on Monday night in Cairo.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Well, that makes it pretty much unanimous; the United States, working together with Israel, has pissed off pretty much the whole planet!

Egypt, Israel agree to set up Gaza buffer zone: Report

Egypt and Israel have agreed on a plan for the establishment of a buffer zone along the Egyptian border with the Gaza Strip, a report says.

According to the Qatar-funded al-Araby al-Jadeed newspaper, an unnamed Western diplomat recently said Egyptian and Israeli leaders had earlier agreed over the plan regarding the creation of the buffer zone.

Al Jazeera - The Day Israel Attacked America

In 1967, at the height of the Arab-Israeli Six-Day War, the Israeli Air Force launched an unprovoked attack on the USS Liberty, a US Navy spy ship that was monitoring the conflict from the safety of international waters in the Mediterranean.

Israeli jet fighters hit the vessel with rockets, cannon fire and napalm, before three Israeli torpedo boats moved in to launch a second more devastating attack. Though she did not sink, the Liberty was badly damaged. Thirty-four US servicemen and civilian analysts were killed, another 171 were wounded.

Later Israel apologised for what it claimed to be a tragic case of mistaken identity. It said that it had believed the ship to be hostile Egyptian naval vessel. US President Lyndon Johnson was privately furious but publicly the White House chose not to challenge the word of its closest Middle East ally and accepted that the attack had been a catastrophic accident.

An Egyptian Intervention in Libya

Two Egyptian officials claimed the country’s warplanes had begun bombing positions in Benghazi, the second-largest city in neighboring Libya, on Wednesday, in an attempt to wrest control of the city from the Ansar-al-Sharia Islamist militia. The mission, which will be led by Libyan pilots, marks the highest-profile collaboration between the two North African countries, both of which are beset by instability, since they experienced simultaneous Arab Spring revolutions in 2011. The Egyptian government has officially denied the news.

According to the Associated Press, the mission is slated to last three to six months and will “eventually involve Libyan ground troops recently trained by Egyptian forces.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

The instability in Libya is directly tied to the US/NATO-led overthrow of Gaddafi, and the return to a private central bank.

The Libyan people are tired of foreign interventionism to control who gets its oil, and in what denomination that oil is sold.

Rumors Swirling About Israel's Shocking 'Endgame' Plan for Palestinians in Gaza

It is difficult to imagine that sooner or later Israel will not face a massive upheaval on its doorstep. So how does Israel propose to avert a scenario in which it must either savagely repress a mass uprising by Palestinians in Gaza or sit by and watch them tear down their prison walls?

Reports in the Arab and Israeli media – in part corroborated by the Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas – suggest that Egypt may be at the heart of plans to solve the problem on Israel’s behalf.

U.S. Back to Openly Supporting Tyranny in Egypt

t is, of course, very difficult to choose the single most extreme episode of misleading American media propaganda, but if forced to do so, coverage of the February, 2011 Tahrir Square demonstrations in Egypt would be an excellent candidate. For weeks, U.S. media outlets openly positioned themselves on the side of the demonstrators, depicting the upheaval as a Manichean battle between the evil despot Hosni Mubarak’s “three decades of iron rule” and the hordes of ordinary, oppressed Egyptians inspirationally yearning for American-style freedom and democracy.

Almost completely missing from this feel-good morality play was the terribly unpleasant fact that Mubarak was one of the U.S. Government’s longest and closest allies and that his ”three decades of iron rule” — featuring murder, torture and indefinite detention for dissidents — were enabled in multiple ways by American support.

FLASHBACK - The Lavon Affair: When Israel firebombed U.S. Installations to make it appear attacks were by ‘Muslim extremists,’ and how the US media cover it up

In their 1979 book, The Untold History of Israel, Israeli journalists Jacques Derogy and Hesi Carmel relate that in 1954 Israel’s army intelligence section conceived a plan to attack British personnel seconded to King Hussein’s government in Jordan. The purpose was to sour relations between Britain and Jordan as well as between both Jordan and Britain on the one hand and Egypt, which would be blamed for such attacks.

Shortly afterward, the same Israeli army intelligence organization activated two networks of Egyptian Jews first established in 1948. These young people had been recruited in Egypt, secretly trained in Israel, and then sent back to their homes in Cairo and Alexandria to await orders to carry out acts of sabotage in case of war between Egypt and Israel.

Britain’s Mad-House Foreign Policy

The best and cheapest way of protecting our national security is simply to eject the madmen from the Foreign Office and stop pimping for the US and its mad-dog protegé.

Let’s see how quickly the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), with Mr Bellingham’s help, can get their skates on and straighten out the simple matter of Palestine’s status so that Israel’s strutting psychopaths can finally be brought to book.

EGYPT; A FARCE OF AN ELECTION

The American-funded and American-backed tyranny in Egypt is very much reminiscent to US backing of the Shah’s regime in Iran prior to the Islamic revolution in 1978. The US gave the Shah all sorts of state-of-the-art weapons, hoping to maintain and perpetuate his grip on power. The notorious Savak was given a free rein to kill, torture, and rape Iranians while the regime made sure to suppress every gesture of public dissent.

Most of the activists arrived at the Egyptian port El-Arish on flights from Syria, while just 30 activists made the journey with the aid supplies by ship.

Over 300 activists from Syrian aid flotilla “Viva Palestina” crossed Thursday the Egyptian Border into Gaza by land with tons of medical equipment and food supplies for the residents of the coastal enclave.

Egypt hit out at Israel on Wednesday for questioning its commitment to nuclear non-proliferation, underlining tension between the Jewish state and Arab countries at an annual meeting of the U.N. atomic watchdog.

In Egypt, some see first salvo in Mubarak succession plan

The long-held suspicion among Egyptians that President Hosni Mubarak is grooming his son Gamal to replace him one day is crystallizing into a widespread belief. There are now signs that “one day” may be as close as next year.

As President Mubarak hosts the next round of peace talks in Sharm El Sheikh today, some say he’s sending a message to both the Americans and the Israelis that Gamal is the safest choice to preserve Egypt’s peace with Israel, which is deeply unpopular among the Egyptian public, and its role in shepherding the negotiations.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Gamal Mubarak is very unlikely to be any more the "dream of the poor" for Egypt than has been his father.

The people of Egypt deserve far better than this, in terms of choices to succeed Hosni Mubarak.

On Whose Behalf Is Egypt Savaging The People Of Gaza?

An influx of hair-raising stories keeps coming from the Egyptian side of the Rafah border terminal. Libya ship takes Gaza aid to Egypt after Israel warning

A Libyan ship, initially bent on breaking Israel's Gaza blockade, docked in Egypt on Wednesday after agreeing to deliver its cargo of aid through Egyptian territory, an AFP correspondent reported.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is, I think, the best compromise. A confrontation was avoided, Israel gets to go on pretending they have a blockade of Gaza, and (assuming Israel does not launch an air strike into Egypt) the food will get to Gaza.

Israel’s Attack On Egypt In June ’67 Was Not ‘Preemptive'

It is often claimed that Israel's attack on Egypt that began the June 1967 "Six Day War" was a "preemptive" one. Implicit in that description is the notion that Israel was under imminent threat of an attack from Egypt. Yet this historical interpretation of the war is not sustained by the documentary record.

The President of Egypt, then known as the United Arab Republic (UAR), Gamal Abdel Nasser, later conveyed to U.S. President Lyndon Johnson that his troop buildup in the Sinai Peninsula prior to the war had been to defend against a feared Israeli attack.

Israel's June 5, 1967 surprise attack on Egypt resulted in the obliteration of Egypt's air force while most of its planes were still on the ground.

Egypt to keep border with impoverished Gaza Strip open

After three years of cooperating in the Israeli blockade of Gaza, Egypt said that it will leave its border with the Palestinian territory open indefinitely for humanitarian aid and restricted travel. With international pressure building to ease the blockade, an Egyptian security official said on Monday that sealing off Hamas-ruled Gaza has only bred more militancy.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The blockade is finished. There is therefore no need for Obama to make any deals with Israel to limit the scope of an international investigation into the attack on the aid flotilla in international waters.

Obama will make that deal anyway, because any investigation will only remind the American people how the US Government shamelessly turned its back on its own citizens in the rush to protect Israel from criticism.

More than 5,000 Palestinians cross newly opened Gaza-Egypt border

More than 5,000 Palestinians have crossed the border between Gaza and Egypt since the Egyptian president ordered it opened eight days ago, border security sources said on Tuesday.

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak opened the crossing in the border town of Rafah in response to Israel's raid on an aid flotilla bound for the besieged Gaza Strip, which left nine activists dead.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This could possibly be seen as a calculated election year ploy by Mubarak, (Egyptian Parliamentary elections will be held in October of this year) as the lot of the average Egyptian hasn't really gotten very much better under his watch.

However, whatever the reason, I am very glad Mubarak did this, and it sends a very strong and courageous message both to Israel and the rest of the world: the siege of Gaza is all but over.

Egypt: Gaza Blockade A Failure

An Egyptian security official declared the blockade of Gaza a failure Monday and said his country will keep its border with the Palestinian territory open indefinitely.

Keeping that crossing point open long term would ease the blockade imposed by Israel three years ago to isolate and punish Gaza's Hamas rulers. It also restores a link to the outside the world for some of Gaza's 1.5 million Palestinians.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The blockade has just now, for all practical intents and purposes, ended.

Egypt Lifts Its Side Of Gaza Blockade

The governor of northern Sinai, Murad Muwafi, says President Hosni Mubarak ordered the opening of the border crossing to Gaza in the town of Rafah for several days.

Muwafi says the opening of the crossing – which Egypt sealed after Gaza was taken over by Hamas militants in 2007 – is an effort to "alleviate the suffering of our Palestinian brothers after the Israeli attack" on the flotilla.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Good on Mubarak; but let's make open border to Gaza last not "...a couple of days", but a permanent lifting of the siege on Egypt's part!

Egypt Restores Oldest Monastery In The World

Egypt's chief archaeologist unveiled on Thursday an extensive renovation of the oldest monastery in the world, touting the work at the 1,600 year-old-site as a symbol of peaceful coexistence between the country's Muslims and Christians.

It's the message Egypt's government has been emphasizing ever since a lethal drive-by shooting at a church a month ago in a southern town: No troubles here – dismissing new worries over sectarian divisions between Egypt's mainly Muslim population and the large Christian minority.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Religion of any stripe can be used to promote kindness, charity, and interfaith respect...or the most horrendous types of hatred, bigotry, and slaughter.

Let us hope the "adults in the room" in positions of leadership in Islamic and Coptic Christian communities work to nurture that respect.

And even if the timing of this announcement is this is just a PR stunt on the part of the Egyptian government, remember: the work on this started almost a decade ago.

There are people in the Muslim world, like Dr. Hawass and his archeological team, who understand that Egypt has been host to a number of other religious traditions, including Judaism, and Christianity.

ISRAEL IS DEFINITELY BEHIND THE CHAOS IN EGYPT

We must not forget who has closed off the Gaza Strip to the rest of humanity. We must not forget who is responsible for the deaths of close to 1500 innocent people, including 450 children. We must not forget that these crimes have been documented and condemned by the United Nations General Assembly.

Anger is now directed at the Egyptian authorities for the situation, but it is Israel that is behind it all. Obama has remained silent on the issue, as has most of the commercial media in the United States, another indication that what I say is true.

Protesters reject Egypt’s Gaza offer

Bethlehem – Ma’an – The organizers of the Gaza Freedom March rejected an Egyptian offer on Wednesday to allow 100 out of 1,300 supporters into the Gaza Strip.

“Our group will continue working to get all 1,362 marchers into Gaza as one step towards the ultimate goal for the complete end of the siege and the liberation of Palestine,” he added.

London – Ma’an – Egyptian security forces detained 38 participants of the Gaza Freedom March from a hotel in Al-Arish on Sunday at noon, according to a statement issued by the event’s organizers.

“Egyptian security forces detained a group of 30 internationals in their hotel in el-Arish and another group of 8 at the bus station. They also broke up a memorial action commemorating the Cast Lead massacre at the Kasr al Nil Bridge,” the statement asserted.

Unfortunately, it appears that the Egyptian government has just announced that it will not allow the internationals to enter Gaza as planned. If so, that would be a shame.

Why Arab dictators will not help GAZA

The Sources of Arabs’ Shame: Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia
by Dr. Abbas Bakhtiar / January 10th, 2009

"The Arab Collaborators
The often asked question, when it comes to the Palestinians, is about the role of Arab countries in the Palestinian struggle for freedom. The people not familiar with the political landscape of the area often see the Middle East as two camps, Arab countries on one side and Israel on the other. The reality is totally different. Israel has seldom been alone. Beside its usual American, French, British and other staunch allies, she has had the hidden backing of several Arab countries."
