Israel Threatens to Attack Iran If Red Sea Strait Is Closed

Continuing with their never-ending series of pretexts for a potential military attack on Iran, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Wednesday he is willing to deploy the military if Iran tries to block the Baab al-Mandeb Strait, in the Red Sea.

The Red Sea Strait is a novel one to threaten Iran over, since it isn’t particularly near Iran, and Iran has never threatened it.. It is doubly strange because Saudi Arabia closed Baab al-Mandeb to oil ships just last week.

The Red Sea strait spans from Djibouti to southwestern Yemen. The Saudi military has been attacking the Houthis on Yemen’s Red Sea coast in recent weeks, but well further north. The closure came after the Houthis fired on a Saudi ship in the Red Sea.

Russia Announces Iran Pullback in Syria, Israel Rejects Plan

Russian Ambassador Alexander Lavrentyev announced on Wednesday that Russia had come to an agreement with Israel on the withdrawal of Iranian forces. The deal will have all Iranian forces at least 85 kilometers from the Golan Heights.

Israel has since denied that this was a deal, and said they consider the pullback “inadequate.” It would be surprising if Israel had taken this deal, as they’d rejected a near identical Russian offer of a 100 kilometer buffer just a week ago.

Israel has demanded Iranian forces be removed wholly from Syria. This includes, by Israel’s reckoning, all Shi’ite forces, which is how they estimate Iran to have vastly more troops in Syria than they really do. Russia has rejected this, saying they can’t force Iran to leave.

Iran to float pricing for Dollar after Rial’s drastic crash

Iran is working on a plan to create a floating mechanism for pricing the US Dollar to help prevent further depreciation of its national currency which lost its value by above 14 percent within only hours this past Sunday.

The plan would be meant to take the pricing of the hard currency out of the hands of street dealers into a newly established “secondary foreign currency market”.

To the same effect, it would ban the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) from dictating its own rates for the Dollar and would instead peg the value of the hard currency to the actual trading rates as obtained from current transactions between currency suppliers and buyers in a newly established “secondary foreign currency market”.

This would be part of a package of CBI policies which would be unveiled soon for controlling the rates of foreign currencies, Iran’s media reported.

Iran’s Navy Assembles Near Mouth of Persian Gulf, US ‘Monitoring it Closely

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) appears to be preparing for a major display of force in the Strait of Hormuz, the only outlet from the Persian Gulf to the open sea, demonstrating its ability to shut down the strategically important waterway.

US Central Command tweeted Wednesday that American forces are closely watching the developing situation, with the Iranian exercise expected to begin in the next 48 hours.

Iran's Elite Guard Urges "Revolutionary Actions" To Halt Rial's Death Spiral

Iran's rial continues its death spiral which started in earnest Saturday after being on a steady slide since April, now hitting a historic low this week. Over the weekend the rial took a stunning 12.5% dive, falling from 98,000 IRR/USD on Saturday to 116,000 IRR/USD by the close of Sunday. As Forbes suggests this kind of classic death spiral hasn't happened since September 2012.

But even more unusual is that Iran's elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has just published a confrontational statement addressed to President Hassan Rouhani, urging him to prop up the falling Rial ahead of US sanctions implementation.

How BRICS-Plus Clashes With The US Economic War On Iran

The key take away from the BRICS summit in Johannesburg is that Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – important Global South players – strongly condemn unilateralism and protectionism.

The Johannesburg Declaration is unmistakable:

“We recognize that the multilateral trading system is facing unprecedented challenges. We underscore the importance of an open world economy.”

Closer examination of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s speech unlocks some poignant details.

Xi, crucially, emphasizes delving further into “our strategic partnership.” That implies increased BRICS and Beyond BRICS multilateral trade, investment and economic and financial connectivity.

Tehran says Trump wrong to expect Saudis to cover loss of Iran oil supply

Iran said on Tuesday U.S. President Donald Trump was mistaken to expect Saudi Arabia and other oil producers to compensate for supply losses caused by U.S. sanctions on Iran, after OPEC production rose only modestly in July.

The comments, from Iran’s OPEC governor, came a day after a Reuters survey showed OPEC production rose by 70,000 barrels per day in July. Saudi production increased but was offset by a decline in Iranian supply due to the restart of U.S. sanctions, the survey found. [OPEC/O]

“It seems President Trump has been taken hostage by Saudi Arabia and a few producers when they claimed they can replace 2.5 million barrels per day of Iranian exports, encouraging him to take action against Iran,” Hossein Kazempour Ardebili told Reuters.

“Now they and Russia sell more oil and more expensively. Not even from their incremental production but their stocks.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Oil is the lubricant for both commerce... and war.

I hope President Trump will come to understand that these sanctions, and those against anyone buying Iranian oil, are a lousy way to attempt to negotiate with both Tehran, and the rest of the world.

The Looming War Against Iran

We are by now used to blood and thunder rhetoric between Washington and Tehran. But this time White House policy is clearly being directed by pro-Israel American neocons who want the US military to crush Iran as it did Iraq.

Crushing Iran will leave Israel with unfettered control of the Mideast and its oil – unless Russia or Turkey intervene against Israel, which is most unlikely. Some think Russia and Israel – and the US – have already made a deal to divvy up the central Mideast.

The Pentagon has planned a high-intensity air war against Iran that Israel and the Saudis might very well join. The plan calls for over 2,300 air strikes against Iranian strategic targets: airfields and naval bases, arms and petroleum, oil and lubricant depots, telecommunication nodes, radar, factories, military headquarters, ports, water works, airports, missile bases and units of the Revolutionary Guards.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF Margolis' information is correct (and I have to wonder about where he got the intel on the 2,300 + airstrikes), and Russia has already signed off on the plan because it will give Russia more control of regional oil, this will be a crushing blow for both the Iranian people, and also for the Palestinians, whose cause Iranians have steadfastly supported.

How many more dead and maimed Americans have to fall to insure that Israel's plans for the Middle East will be successfully consummated?!?

At this point in time, when you join America's military, you will most likely die for Israel.

Please share this with anyone you know who is even thinking about enlisting right now.

As US Adds Preconditions, Iran Rejects Offer of Talks

Trump's vow of 'no preconditions' lasts less than 24 hours.

President Trump surprised many on Monday when he announced his willingness to meet with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani “without preconditions.” Within less than a day, the administration had already started attaching substantial preconditions to the offer.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, early on Tuesday, began establishing preconditions, saying that Iran needed to commit to “fundamental changes to how they treat their own people, reduce their malign behavior, agree that it’s worthwhile to enter into a nuclear agreement that actually prevents proliferation.”

These preconditions almost certainly make the offer impossible, as the US treats Iranian foreign policy as necessarily “malign behavior,” and Iran is neither going to agree to deeper isolation, nor to the need for another nuclear deal while still trying to preserve the one the already signed, and which the US dishonored earlier this year.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Trump's warhawks, with Netanyahu and Adelson cheerleading the moves, are engineering this relationship to go as south as far as humanly possible, and are positioning the President into a very narrow field of play, where war is being presented to him as the "only reasonable option" against Iran.

And what is this malarkey about "malign behaviour" and needing "... changes in how they treat their own people."?!?

And there is one aspect of a potential US war against Iran which I hope is keeping these warhawks up at night; if the US goes to war against Iran, what will Russia do?!?

Because should Russia get involved in such a war, the US military does not have the troop strength; the money; the weaponry; or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome in Iran against Russia.

Those are just the facts.

And that also implies reaching to the next level;

Webmaster's Commentary:

The reimposition of sanctions against Iran start next Monday; the drop-dead date by which no countries on earth will be allowed to purchase Iranian crude or face US sanctions is Sunday, 4 November, two days away from Midterm elections in the US.

Countries around the world are scrambling to see what they can barter for Iranian crude, to get around potential sanctions, and there are many ways in which this could happen.

IF President Trump is going to "do something" regarding Iran which is military in nature, I would suggest that it will be the 4th or 5th of November, primarily to insure that his faithful go to the polls, and keep a Republican majority in both the House and Senate.

A cynical use of international military power to insure domestic political victory?!?

It wouldn't be the first time that has happened in America's history.

Trump’s Iraq: Why the President Wants War with Iran

This gaudy show of juvenile bullymanship is only the latest in a string of petty and dogged counter-intellectualism that has come to characterize a President who practically embodies “If it bleeds, it leads.” On the topic of American interventionism and a global democracy, Trump’s watery stance has seen him use Bush’s failure in Iraq as a campaign placard while also quietly stroking the dogs of war in response to Iraq’s wealthy and theocratic neighbors to the East. Trump’s blatant messages of unabashed aggression are similar in tone to those of every American President’s position (outside of Obama) when addressing Iran since the fall of the Shah. It brings a consistent and malignantly manufactured campaign of fear and mistrust with Iran that is striking in its uniformity of allegiance from both political ruling classes over the past century.

Iran currency drops 18% in two days

Iran's currency traded at a fresh record-low of 119,000 to the dollar on Tuesday, a loss of nearly two-thirds of its value since the start of the year as US sanctions loom.

The Iranian rial has been crashing in recent days as the country anxiously awaits the reimposition of full US sanctions, starting on August 6.

It hit 100,000 to the dollar for the first time on Sunday and continued its decline, losing 18 percent of its value in less than two days.

On January 1, the dollar was worth 42,900 rials.

The government has been in crisis mode, replacing its central bank chief last week.

The central bank issued a statement on Monday, blaming the currency volatility on the "enemies' conspiracy" and vowing fresh counter-measures "in the coming days".

Webmaster's Commentary:

August 6th is this coming Monday; one has to wonder what the Iranian government and central bank can actually do to reverse this horrific economic downward spiral.

Russian Ambassador Tells Israel: We Can’t Force Iran to Leave Syria

Speaking on Israel’s Channel 10 news, Russian Ambassador Anatoly Viktorov told the interviewer that Russia cannot force Iran to withdraw its military from Syria, no matter how many times Israel demands them to.

Israel has been demanding Russian intervention for months, but Iran has ruled out leaving unless Syria tells them to. Russia tried to come up with a compromise where Iranian forces would stay 100 km from the buffer zone, but Israel rejected that as well.

Viktorov told the reporters that Iran’s military presence in Syria “is fully legitimate according to the UN principles and the UN charter.” He added that Russia is “not okay” with any Israeli attacks on Syria, but that it wasn’t up to Russia to prevent them.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Israeli government loves the "big lie" technique, both to exaggerate their own claims, and also to terrify their domestic population.

It will be interesting to see what Israel does regarding Syria after this announcement; but I would not believe that backing off their attacks against Syria will happen any time soon.

Iran Sees Oil-for-Gold Trade as Viable Solution to US Banking Sanctions

With Sri Lanka already looking to make an “oil for tea” trade deal to keep buying oil from Iran without violating an US prohibitions, Iranian officials continue to explore other barter solutions around the world as an alternative to US-dominated banking.

Hassam Khosrowjerdi, the president of the Iran-Africa Council for Economic Cooperation, suggested that trading Iranian oil directly for gold would be a potential solution that would avoid US banks. Major African gold producing nations would be likely customers.

Ghana was specifically mentioned in Iranian state media reports, noting that Ghana imports oil and other oil products from Iran, and is also the second biggest exporter of gold in all of Africa.

This would not only allow Iran to avoid international banks, but potentially could be a boost for their struggling currency. Iran has been importing gold recently already, according to reports, and a big increase in state-owned gold reserves would doubtless be good for the rial.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF other countries are not using banks as a medium of currency exchange, there are a myriad of creative ways to get around US sanctions against Iran; bartering, is surely one of those ways, and there is nothing the Trump Administration can do to stop it, except wage war on every country buying their oil from Iran in this manner.

US must return to nuclear deal before future talks with Tehran – Rouhani aide

A return to the 2015 nuclear deal is the key to future talks between the US and Iran, an adviser to President Hassan Rouhani said. President Donald Trump is ready to negotiate, but believes the existing deal is “a waste of paper.”

“Respecting the Iranian nation’s rights, reducing hostilities and returning to the nuclear deal are steps that can be taken to pave the bumpy road of talks between Iran and America,” Hamid Aboutalebi tweeted on Tuesday.

Iran says impossible to engage with current US govt.

Iran says it is impossible to engage in talks with the US under the current administration which has adopted a fiercely hostile policy toward the Islamic Republic.

With current America and these policies, there will definitely not be the possibility of dialogue and engagement, and the United States has shown that it is totally unreliable," Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Monday.

President Donald Trump pulled the United States out of an international nuclear deal known as the JCPOA with Tehran in May and announced his intention to impose the strictest regime of sanctions on the country.

Qassemi, speaking to reporters in Tehran during his weekly news briefing, dismissed calls for negotiations by US leaders, including by Trump who said recently that he was ready "to make a real deal" with Iran.

Presidential Advisor Rules out Talks with US for Trump's Utter Disrespect

TEHRAN (FNA)- Washington should return to the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and the world powers and show respect in action before asking for bilateral talks, a senior advisor to the Iranian president said after US President Donald Trump voiced preparedness for unconditional face-to-face negotiations with his Iranian counterpart.

Trump says he would 'certainly meet' with Iran's Rouhani

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said Monday that he'd "certainly meet" with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, and without preconditions, if the Iranian leader were willing.

Speaking during a joint news conference with Italy's premier, Trump said he would meet with the Iranians "anytime they want to."

"I'll meet with anybody," he said. "There's nothing wrong with meeting."

The overture comes as Trump and the Iranians have been escalating their rhetoric after Trump's May withdrawal from the landmark nuclear accord. The United States has also vowed to boost sanctions until Iran changes its regional policies, including its support for regional militant groups.

It's unclear whether Rouhani has any interest in meeting with Trump. Rouhani's chief of staff claimed earlier this month in Iran's state-owned newspaper that Rouhani had rejected eight requests from Trump for one-on-one talks last year.

US Considering Attacking Iran, With Saudi Forces Leading Strike

Is the United States preparing to attack Iran? On Friday, Defense Secretary James Mattis dismissed this idea as “fiction,” back when the sources were in the Australian military. Yet other US officials have since been quoted as saying the attack is still being considered.

The pretext for this war appears to be the ongoing Yemen War. Last week, Saudi state media claimed that Yemen’s Houthi rebels attacked and slightly damaged a Saudi oil tanker. The Saudis have previously alleged the Houthis are tied to Iran, and US media is treating this as some sort of transference, and reporting that Iran attacked the Saudi oil tanker, even though no one alleged that ever happened.

Since the US has spent years presenting oil security as a reason for war with Iran, they are considering using that excuse. Officials say that this would be mostly a Saudi-led attack, with Saudi Arabia and its allies doing the bulk of the fighting, and relying on the US for support.

Will Next Steps On Iran Point Towards A New "Big Three" Or World War III?

On July 22 US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo delivered a bizarre speech on Iran. Delivered from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, and ostensibly addressed to the Iranian-American community, the speech’s staging clearly sought to evoke the fall of communism, casting the Ayatollahs in the role of Leonid Brezhnev and company.

Iranian “regime change” is not the publicly stated goal of the Trump Administration’s policy. But it is hard to see how US demands on Tehran don’t amount to exactly that, with Pompeo comparing the Iranian “regime” (a term used dozens of times to imply illegitimacy) to a “mafia.” He asserted that Iran’s behavior is “at root in the revolutionary nature of the regime itself.” What can change its “root” or “nature” without ceasing to be itself?

Iran's rial flashed lower on Sunday against the US Dollar, as panicked Iranians scrambled into USD amid deepening economic woes and the imminent return of full US sanctions. The unofficial "black market" rate stood at 102,000 Rials by mid-Sunday according to website Bonbast, and confirmed to AFP by a currency trader.

The Rial has lost half its value against the US Dollar over the last four months - breaking through the 50,000:1 mark in March for the first time. In April, Tehran deployed a series of measures to try and stop the slide - including firing the governor of the central bank, fixing the Rial at 42,000 and threatening to crack down on black market traders.

US politicians & media talk of Iran regime change as if it’s their divine right

US President Donald Trump’s dire warning to Iran has renewed debate within American news media about whether his administration is seeking regime change in Tehran or merely using threats as a psychological weapon.

Embedded in the US public discourse is the arrogant assumption that Washington has the right to pursue regime change against any nation it chooses. For the American ruling class and its media echo chambers, it is tantamount to a “divine right” – an unquestionable mission with which Americans are “blessed.”

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo earlier this week talked about how America was doing “God’s work” in reaching out to Iranian people to encourage the overthrow their “mafia regime.”

“To our Iranian American and Iranian friends, tonight I tell you that the Trump administration dreams the same dreams for the people of Iran as you do,” said Pompeo. “And through our labors and God’s providence, that day will come true.”

US strategy against Iran may lead to lose-lose scenario for everyone

Although the US might not be planning to invade Iran, its belligerent rhetoric shows that it prefers intimidation over dialogue in dealing with Tehran. Such strategy may leave both the US and the world in a deadlock, experts warn.
On Friday, Australian media reported that the US is allegedly “prepared” to bomb Iran's nuclear sites. These reports were then immediately dismissed by the US Defense Secretary James Mattis, who called it “complete fiction.” However, this development still might be troubling as it came against the background of a dramatic deterioration in US-Iran relations, which followed Washington’s unilateral withdrawal in May from the landmark Iran nuclear accord, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Mattis Rejects Viral Australian Report On Impending US Iran Strikes

A day after an Australian ABC report went viral with the claim that the White House has drawn up plans to strike Iran's alleged nuclear facilities as early as next month, Defense Secretary James Mattis said on Friday morning it's a "complete fiction".

The Australian Broadcast Corporation report cited high level defense and intelligence figures: "Senior figures in the Australia's Turnbull government have told the ABC they believe the US is prepared to bomb Iran's nuclear capability," and perhaps most alarmingly added, "The bombing could be as early as next month."

Fox News national security correspondent Jennifer Griffin questioned Mattis about the report on Friday:

I asked Mattis about report US preparing strikes against Iran.

MATTIS: "I have no idea where the Australian news people got that information. I am confident it is not something that is being considered right now. I think it is a complete, frankly, it's fiction."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Right now, I would tend to believe the reports by Australian Broadcasting Corporation, over what Mattis is saying; I believe, however, that they got their timing wrong.

Please remember; 4 November is the "drop dead date" which President Trump has imposed upon the entire world, for not buying Iranian oil.

That date is the Sunday, before the US primaries, which occur Tuesday, 6 November.

I think it very likely for the Trump administration, using Israel intel, to do some kind of definitive military action against Iran either on the 4th, or the 5th of November, to insure that the GOP hangs on to their majority come election day.

Senators Threaten Action If Europe Ignores US Sanctions Against Iran

A group of 10 Republicans senators have issued a joint letter to the ambassadors from Britain, France and Germany saying they are “troubled” by European efforts to evade newly imposed US sanctions against Iran.

President Trump withdrew the US out of the P5+1 nuclear deal, of which all three of those European nations are still party to. The US thus considers the deal over, and wants all the pre-deal sanctions back in place. The European nations, and the EU in general, are trying to save the deal, irrespective of US opposition.

The letter demands that the European nations “comply with all American sanctions,” and warns that continued attempts to avoid doing so could be met by “congressional action” against the Europeans for resisting them.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump, and these 10 Republican Senators (all high recipients of AIPAC money, I might imagine), a word, please, gentlemen; what are you going to do to every nation which refuses to go along with these sanctions?!?

This giving the world a "drop dead date" (4 November of this year, I believe) by which the world was commanded by the US to NOT buy Iranian crude oil, was utterly not thought through.

And I would imagine that some countries are going to come up with very creative ways to not allow US sanctions to impinge their buying of Iranian oil (cryptocurrencies, perhaps, that the US would not be able to touch.)

Then what, gentlemen?!? Go to war with Iran, and the rest of the world which needs to buy their oil?!?

And please, in all this rush to demonize Iran (potentially ahead of a military strike against it), I hope someone in the bowels of power is asking themselves this question; what will Russia do, in the case of a US/Israeli attack against Iran?!?

Will the Duma and Putin just sit on their hands, singing "Kumbyah"?!?

I would strongly tend to doubt this.

Also, what will Turkey do, which actually shares a common border with Iran, and the government of which has stated that it will absolutely not observe the US boycott on Iranian oil?!?

I sincerely hope that someone in DC is losing sleep over this. It was NOT a tactic calculated to bring the Iranians to the negotiating table, after President Trump withdrew the US from the P5+1 agreement, which the IAEA, comprised of very bright people, said was working.

Iran "Preparing Ground" For National Cryptocurrency To Dodge US Sanctions

Iran has confirmed it will press ahead with creating its own state-issued cryptocurrency to circumvent incoming U.S.. sanctions, local media Press TV reported July 25.

Quoted by local news media outlet ISNA and translated by PressTV, Alireza Daliri, deputy for management and investment at the Directorate for Scientific and Technological Affairs, said plans for the creation of a working digital currency were already on its agenda.

“We are trying to prepare the grounds to use a domestic digital currency in the country,” Daliri told ISNA, continuing:

“This currency would facilitate the transfer of money (to and from) anywhere in the world. Besides, it can help us at the time of sanctions.”

What Are The Prospects For US War On Iran?

Worrisomely, Qassem Soleimani, head of Iran's elite IRGC Quds force on Thursday personally threatened President Donald Trump, saying "Come. We are ready. If you begin the war, we will end the war."

And following Soleimani's speech, well-known Iran hawk and national security adviser John Bolton convened a high level meeting to address the Iran issue on Thursday.

Iran, Pakistan to jointly produce defense equipment: Top general

Iran’s top military commander has emphasized the importance of enhancing defense relations with Pakistan, saying the two neighbors are seeking to jointly manufacture defense equipment.

Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri made the remarks following a meeting with Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain in Islamabad on Tuesday.

During the talks, the two sides touched on the commonalities between Iran and Pakistan as well as the almost 1000-kilometer border between the neighbors, stressing that Tehran-Islamabad ties should be further enhanced in different areas.

The Iranian general said that during his visit, he had discussed with Pakistani officials topics such as military education, pilot training, military drills and contacts between the two countries’ defense industries.

Iran Hawks Think It’s 1989, Not 2003

As President Donald Trump launched his latest broadside against the Islamic Republic of Iran on Sunday night, three theories surfaced. First, the president wished to shift the public conversation away from his fraught summit in Helsinki and the broader Russia narrative. Second, Trump was making President Rouhani the latest target of his good cop, bad cop routine: attacking an autocrat to get superior, future negotiating leverage. And third, there is significant donor and Congressional pressure on the Republican president to keep the heat up on Tehran. With a few clicks on his cell phone, Trump got three birds for one stone. For now.

Some restrainers and skeptics of U.S. foreign policy and the administration reacted to the latest development—a level of prominence for Iran in the news cycle not seen since May, when Trump nullified the JCPOA—as a sign of war.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Fourth theory. Trump will bomb Iran to take the focus off of Israel's crimes against Palestine.

After Trading Threats, White House Convenes Policy Meeting on Iran

On Thursday, national security adviser John Bolton called a cabinet-level meeting of the Principals Committee on the question of US policy toward Iran. The meeting included a number of top officials, including the secretaries of state and defense.

This comes after President Trump’s Twitter threat against Iran, and subsequent warnings from Iranian officials that they are prepared to defend themselves, warnings that have also been perceived as threats in their own right.

The administration appears to now be asking themselves, after Trump’s Monday threat and Wednesday suggestion that he’s ready to make a deal, that they need to come up with an actual policy on Iran. White House officials aren’t saying what they decided on.

Reports out of the Wall Street Journal suggest that a “limited” military option may have been discussed, though officials continue to insist they aren’t interested in regime change.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Oh yes, we believe the US government isn't interested in regime change in Iran ... especially after 1953 and 2009!

And did you get that bit where Iran's saying "we will defend ourselves" is declared to be a threat to the US?

What the hell could you do between 2001 and 2018 with 110,000 troops? You are today begging Taliban for talks,” Major General Soleimani said.

The Iranian commander added, “Afghanistan was a poor country, what the hell could you do in this country that you are currently threatening us?”

US Preparing To Bomb Iran's Nuclear Capabilities As Soon As Next Month: Report

As the White House convenes a policy meeting on Iran Thursday involving senior Pentagon officials and cabinet advisers under national security adviser John Bolton, and after a week of intense saber-rattling by President Donald Trump and his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani, a new bombshell report by Australia's ABC says the White House is drawing up plans to strike Iran's alleged nuclear facilities as early as next month.

Senior figures in the Australia's Turnbull government have told the ABC they believe the US is prepared to bomb Iran's nuclear capability. The bombing could be as early as next month. —ABC report

Webmaster's Commentary:

Can you imagine the fear?

Maybe you don't have to. Maybe you are old enough to remember Three Mile Island, or Chernobyl. Maybe you're one of the people living around the Pacific where the radiation meters have been singing their songs of death since Fukushima.

Can you feel the horror? There is an invisible killer dancing in the air. Maybe hiding in that rain drop. You cannot know for sure.

That metallic taste in your mouth; is it being that scared? Or is it something ... worse?

You cannot know for sure. There is an invisible killer dancing in the air.

You wish you could stop breathing, but of course you can't. And with each breath comes an unspoken question; Is this the breath during which I inhale my own end? Is there an irrevocable link between this breath and my final breath to come? Is this the breath that deforms my unborn child? Is this the breath that transforms my future from an old age filled with family and friends, to loneliness, lingering pain, and a horrible death?

You cannot know for sure. There is an invisible killer dancing in the air.

Or maybe it was on that stamp you licked, or in the wine you drank, or the cookie you ate.

Maybe you showered with the killer, slept with the killer, shared your clothes with the killer.

You cannot know for sure. There is an invisible killer dancing in the air.

Now imagine living with that fear, day after day after day; fear for yourself, fear for the lives and health of your loved ones. Imagine the long sleepless nights wondering if the next day will invite the killer into your home; if the rain will wash the killer onto the food you will eat.

Imagine.

Then imagine a monster so evil they would inflict that endless fear onto innocent and unoffending people.

Then stop imagining, because it really happened, but just once but twice.

What happened by accident at Three-Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima was done intentionally by Israel to the people of Iraq, when Israel bombed the nuclear power plant at Osirik in the erroneous assumption that Iraq was building nuclear weapons. Then Israel did it again in Syria. Thankfully, there were no nuclear weapons at the Iraq or Syrian targets, or the people of Iraq and Syria would have suffered what those people living downwind from Three-Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima (and indeed the whole northern hemisphere) all suffered.

But no doubt, those innocent and unoffending Iraqi and Syrian people knew the fear of wondering whether the silent killer was there in their homes moment to moment, just as you are wondering whether the silent killer is in your home this very moment, even as you read these words.

Israel did that to those people; cursed them with that endless dread that lingered for months on end.

And now the United States wants to bomb more nuclear facilities in Iran so that what happened by accident at Three-Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima, will be done deliberately to the people of Iran, who have not invaded or threatened anyone.

There are indeed monsters living among us.

And we know them by their deeds.

Just think about that when you are lying in the dark, afraid to breathe.

Israel’s ‘Jewish nation-state’ law a prelude to annexation

When the Netanyahu government passed a Basic Law this week enshrining a superior set of rights for Israel's Jewish citizens, it ushered in a new era of open apartheid. To appreciate the significance of the new nation-state law, one must understand why the bill split Israel's nationalist camp, and why demographic factors forced it to the fore. After the final vote, ruling Likud lawmaker Avi Dichter, who sponsored the bill's first iteration, explained its true purpose. "We are enshrining this important bill into a law today to prevent even the slightest thought, let alone attempt, to transform Israel to a country of all its citizens," Dichter gloated after the law passed this week ... Of course, ever since the state was founded in 1948, Israel has discriminated against its non-Jewish Palestinian citizens in a myriad of ways.

Crucially, Australia is part of the so-called "Five Eyes" global intelligence partners which includes the US, UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand, and plays in a key role in hosting top-secret facilities that guide American spy satellites.

According to the breaking report, ABC [Australian Broadcasting Corporation] has learned the following based on statements of key senior defense and intelligence officials:

Senior Government figures have told the ABC they believe the Trump administration is prepared to bomb Iran

Webmaster's Commentary:

Please, Lord, NO!!

This would be the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing that the US government could possibly do, at this time.

But in looking at countries which are already balking at being forbidden by the US government from buying Iranian crude, or experience severe sanctions, like Turkey,it is possible that the White House believes it cannot isolate Iran enough economically, before its stated "drop dead date' of not buying Iranian oil (4 November) that it thinks it must move swiftly on a decap strike against Tehran.

Turkey vows to keep buying Iranian oil: 'We will not obey'

Turkey plans to keep purchasing Iranian oil in defiance of American sanctions on the rogue regime, according to the NATO ally’s top diplomat.

“We buy oil from Iran and we purchase it in proper conditions,” Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Tuesday. “What is the other option?”

Cavusoglu’s comments raise the specter of yet another clash between the U.S. and Turkey, which is also in the final stages of an arms deal with Russia that could trigger American sanctions. Turkish officials, in both cases, have dismissed the U.S.' threat of sanctions to constrain the choices of other countries.

Iran Elite Army Chief Lashes Out At Trump: Oil Threat "Can Be Easily Answered"

Iran and Washington are in the midst of a war of words, with the dangerous potential for an actual war seeming to rise daily, as the US has repeatedly threatened to throttle Iran's international oil trade as it's moved closer to imposing sanctions on countries including key allies that don’t eliminate or significantly cut imports of Iranian oil by Nov. 4. It's but the latest crisis to emerge after the White House pulled the US out of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal in May.

Army Colonel Warns False Flag ‘Gulf of Tonkin Incident’ May Be Used to Get US Into War with Iran

On August 5, 1964, the New York Times reported “President Johnson has ordered retaliatory action against gunboats and ‘certain supporting facilities in North Vietnam’ after renewed attacks against American destroyers in the Gulf of Tonkin.” Additional outlets, such as the Washington Post, echoed this claim.

But it wasn’t true. At all. In fact, the Gulf of Tonkin incident, as it became known, turned out to be a fictitious creation courtesy of the government to escalate war in Vietnam — leading to the deaths of tens of thousands of U.S. troops and millions of Vietnamese, fomenting the largest anti-war movement in American history, and tarnishing the reputation of a nation once considered at least somewhat noble in the eyes of the world.

Trump Says Ready to Make ‘A Real Deal’ With Iran

During his speech in Kansas City on Tuesday, President Trump said he is “ready to make a real deal” with Iran, adding that “Iran is not the same country anymore.” He also said this new deal would not be like the “disaster” deal made by the Obama Administration.

The statement comes just two days after President Trump’s bellicose Tweet threatening Iran with “consequences the likes of which few throughout history have ever suffered before.” Speculation was that this was an attempt to replicate the US strategy in North Korea, where threats were followed with successful diplomacy.

Yet Iran and North Korea are clearly dramatically different situations, not the least of which because Iran doesn’t have nuclear weapons, or a nuclear arms program to dismantle. Willingness to negotiate at all with Iran is a substantial difference in Trump Administration position, however.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mr. President, I would like to politely suggest, that there is no "deal" you can offer Iran with which to replace the P5+1; they are not going to give up their missile program, and are continuing nuclear enrichment under the supvervision of the IAEA June, 2018: Iran to inform IAEA of Start of Process o Boost Uranium Enrichment Capacity

You have told the world that the "drop dead date" for them to purchase Iranian crude is 4 November of this year. Trump Demands World Stop Buying Iranian Oil by 4 November, 2018, or face economic sanctions

The timing of your deadline is the Sunday before mid-term elections in this country, Tuesday, 6 November; but what if most of the world disregards your sanctions, as it appears China is set to do?!?

Are you going to declare war on every nation on earth which does not comply with your demand?!?

Will November 5th, be a day of a decap strike against Tehran, to show Irael, the US, and the world, how completely "butch" you are in terms of imposing regime change in Iran?!?

And what happens, sir, if there is a joint US/Israeli strike against Iran, but Russia comes into the fray on Iran's side?!?

I would like to hope, sir, that there is someone in your Administration who has thought all the above scenarios through to their logical conclusions; risking war with both Iran, and Russia, because it is you who has pulled the US out of the P5+1 deal, demonstrates neither sound, nor logical thinking, and potentially puts you... and this Administration... between Iran and a hard place.

"It was made clear again that we would not accept Iranian consolidation in Syria, not near the border, and not in the 100-kilometer strip that the Russians are talking about and committing to," the senior official said. "We said that there is long-range weapons placed beyond this area and all these forces have to leave Syria. Russia has considerable capabilities to deal with this, because it is a very significant factor within Syria."

Blasting Iran's regime as 'not normal,' Pompeo calls on Iranian Americans for support in California visit

The Trump administration on Sunday blasted the Iranian government as a kleptocracy that has amassed wealth at the cost of its people, the latest in a series of jabs at Iran’s leadership following the United States’ withdrawal from the nuclear deal.

In a speech titled “Supporting Iranian Voices,” Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo told members of the Iranian American community that the leadership in Tehran “resembles the Mafia more than a government.” The event, held at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, marked a rare outreach by the Trump administration to the Iranian diaspora — part of a nascent campaign by the U.S. government to discredit and undermine support for Iran’s leaders.

Israeli fighter jets attacked parts of western Syria yesterday on a military site in the Masyaf countryside. The source accused Israel of “helping terrorist organisations either through direct interference or by providing them with logistic support, weapons and intelligence.”

Never, Ever Threaten the US Again': Trump Fires Back at Rouhani's Threats

On Sunday Iranian President Hassan Rouhani urged his US counterpart Donald Trump to stop playing with fire, referring to Washington's calls for its allies to completely abandon imports of Iranian oil by early November.

US President Donald Trump warned Tehran on Sunday of consequences "the likes of which few throughout history have ever suffered," if the country threatens the United States.

The Iranian president said earlier that a "war with Iran is the mother of all wars," but did not rule out peace between the two countries.

"Today, speaking with US has no meaning except surrender and end of people's achievements. Mr. Trump! We are the people of dignity and guarantor of security of the waterway of the region throughout the history. Don't play with the lion's tail; you will regret it," Rouhani said at a meeting with Iranian diplomats as quoted by the presidential office.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As I type this, I am watching a crawl on Faux News, indicating that President Trump is "very happy" with progress on North Korea (whatever that is, is apparently not ready for public consumption right now).

It appears that his "gruesome twosome" supporters, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Sheldon Adelson, have shifted his military outrage elsewhere, and that appears to be against Iran.

But this escalating "war of words" by President Trump with Iran, and any country which would buy Iranian oil by 4 November, telegraphs the following to me.

The White House, Pentagon, and State Department, are ramping up the demonization of Iran, in order to "justify" a war against it.

Those military actions will most probably happen on, or just after, the US-imposed "drop dead" date for countries wanting to buy Iranian oil.

Trump Pressing Allies to Quite Importing Iranian Oil by 4 November

In looking at the calendar, I see we are at 23 July; this gives potential buyers precisely 103 days to stockpile Iranian oil, if they so choose.

IF the US and Israel are planning a decap strike against Tehran, it will have to be both quick, and massive. Troops are going to have to be predeployed and in position in and around Saudi Arabia; Iraq; Israel; and the Persian Gulf. Massive troop movements will be seen to happen, if this is the plan.

If this is in the works, however, what will Russia do, as Russia shares both a border with Iran, and a tremendous history with it?!?

My thought is that Putin will stand down here, let the regime change happen, and negotiate with whatever government takes over in Iran.

And what about the timing of this US government dictat?!?

The US mid-terms are on 6 November this year. My bet is that President Trump will act decisively on Monday, 5 November, to cement the Republican majority in Congress, as Americans have been reluctant to change governmental leadership in a war situation.

I wish to hell I could be a little less cynical here; but I cannot.

Germany Encourages India To Keep Buying Oil From Iran

Germany’s minister of state for foreign affairs has encouraged India to continue buying Iranian oil, despite pressure from the United States, which Niels Annen called “irritating, to put it mildly.”

“I am not a salesman for Iran but I have an impression that India is willing to continue buying oil from Iran and this will be a very important statement,” Annen told Indian media, as quoted by Sputnik, also noting that whatever New Delhi decided, it would be a sovereign decision.

India is Iran’s top oil client, and it is also one of the countries that are most heavily dependent on oil imports. This means that the consequences of U.S. sanctions on Tehran will spread to India, which already has a problem with too high international oil prices.

A Neoconservative Plan for Punishing Iran

President Donald Trump makes a point of insisting that he has nothing against the Iranian people and is only interested in opposing what he regards as the dangerous activities of their government, but his own record in office belies that claim. It is clear that what he is trying to do is put pressure on the people of Iran to rise up and force a change in government, a process otherwise referred to as regime change ... Iran is neither Libya nor Iraq. It has a strong and historic national identity that means that it does and will resist being bullied by outside powers, including the "leader of the free world" United States ... The sad fact is that the pretense of U.S. global leadership now consists of a basket of new "rules" that are both arbitrary and basically illegal supported by pretexts that are essentially fabricated.

US launches campaign to erode support for Iran’s leaders

The Trump administration has launched an offensive of speeches and online communications meant to foment unrest and help pressure Iran to end its nuclear program and its support of militant groups, US officials familiar with the matter said to Reuters.

More than half a dozen current and former officials said the campaign, supported by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and national security adviser John Bolton, is meant to work in concert with US President Donald Trump’s push to economically throttle Iran by re-imposing tough sanctions. The drive has intensified since Trump withdrew on May 8 from a 2015 seven-nation deal to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

The current and former officials said the campaign paints Iranian leaders in a harsh light, at times using information that is exaggerated or contradicts other official pronouncements, including comments by previous administrations.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Just a reminder: Iran does not have a nuclear program other than what it is allowed under the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty, which both Iran and the US signed and ratified.

As for support of militant groups, one only needs to look at the US support of militant groups in Syria to appreciate the stunning hypocrisy involved.

Washington's "comprehensive" package of sanctions against Tehran are expected to kick in this November, but officials say the main target, Iranian crude oil exports, will likely simply be diverted from one group of buyers to another.

A senior US energy official has told The Wall Street Journal that Washington expects China to buy up much of the oil others won't due to the threat of US sanctions. Beijing, according to the official, will likely make the purchases through the same bank it used during the previous rounds of sanctions to get around US penalties.

This includes the Bank of Kunlun Co, Ltd, a bank affiliated with the China National Petroleum Corp with limited exposure to the global financial system. The US has threatened to sanction "everybody, including China" if they purchase Iranian oil once sanctions step into effect.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What the US apparently has done, as a fall out from the withdrawal from the P5+1 deal, is to drive Iran, Russia, and China ever closer together, economically, geopolitically, and militarily.

Why does the pathological inability to think a scenario through to its logical conclusion, seem to always infect US foreign policy with such "magical thinking", as to cause things like this to happen?!?

And it is neither a product of purely Democratic, or purely Republican administrations; this critical fault lies in all of them.

Iran Says Oil Producers Led Trump Into 'Trap,' Forecasts Prices to Rise

The US withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal in May 2018 and promised to impose sanctions against Tehran and any company that does business with it, potentially threatening to leave the world without 2.5 million barrels of Iranian oil.

Iran's representative to the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Hossein Kazempour Ardebili, has warned that Trump's hopes that other countries will fill the gap in oil supply after the US imposes sanctions on Iranian oil will not come to pass and are based on a "miscalculation," Iran's PressTV has reported. He also noted that the US president was falsely led into the belief as a result of a "miscalculation by other oil producers."

"Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Russia pretended to be able to deliver 2.5 million barrels a day of Iranian exports […] That was a miscalculation, Mr. President: you have fallen in their trap, and prices will go up," Hossein Kazempour Ardebili said.

Pompeo Rejects EU Appeal for Iran Sanctions Exemptions

While Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin says that exemptions from US sanctions against Iran will be considered in certain cases, the European Union is apparently not going to be one of them. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo confirmed that he has rejected EU appeals for Iran exemptions.

Senior officials from Britain, France, and Germany have all urged the US not to apply the sanctions to EU nations’ companies when they start going into effect next month. The EU has passed laws rejecting US sanctions, and forbidding their companies from complying with them.

Pompeo and Mnuchin told the EU, however, that they want “unprecedented financial pressure” on Iran, and that they will not ease any sanctions until they see a tangible change in Iranian policy.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The "drop dead date" for the rest of the world not buying Iranian oil is 4 November, right before the US mid-terms; one has to wonder if this foretells some massive US/Israeli strike against it, if Iranian oil still finds its way to market, to demonstrate President Trump's "butchness" on Iran.

This is a place where I absolutely have a (non-hurting, gentle) punch relationship with the current administration; dropping out of the P5+1 deal, which the IAEA told us was working, was a huge mistake here, and a sop to both Trump's Number One campain Contributor, Sheldon Adelson, and one of his BFFs in the Middle East, Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu.

Also, historically, Russia's military and civilian leadership have stated that should Iran be attacked, they would defend it militarily.

Were I President Trump, seeing what Russia accomplished in Syria, I would want to think long and hard, about a potential decap strike against Damascus.

Bolton Says US Troops Will Remain in Syria Until “Iranian Menace” Wiped Off the Map

Bolton’s emphasis on the “Iranian menace” as the driver behind the U.S.’ occupation of northeastern Syria represents a departure from past U.S. assertions that the American troop presence was chiefly related to fighting Daesh (ISIS).

US Message To Assad: "We Will Pull Out Of Syria If Iran Withdraws"

As Presidents Trump and Putin are set to meet Monday in Helsinki, efforts toward winding down the proxy war in Syria will no doubt be high on the agenda.

We explained previously that the diplomatic cards for ending the war seem to have fallen into place as just days before the historic summit Netanyahu said in a stunning turnaround for Israeli policy fresh off his own visit with Putin in Moscow that "Israel does not object to President Bashar al-Assad’s regaining control over all of Syria" so long as Iranian forces are pushed back from the Israeli border, according to the New York Times.

And now according to a new bombshell report, US military commanders have conveyed to Syrian President Assad via Russian mediation that "we will pull out of al-Tanf and the North if Iran withdraws from Syria."

Netanyahu, Trump discuss Iran, Syria ahead of Helsinki summit

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said yesterday that he had discussed with US President Donald Trump issues related to Iran and Syria ahead of Trump’s summit with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin in the Finnish capital, Helsinki.

“On Saturday evening, I spoke with US President Donald Trump over the telephone and discussed security and diplomatic issues in light of developments in the region, with Syria and Iran first and foremost, of course”, Netanyahu said during the Israeli cabinet’s weekly meeting.

“As you know, these issues will also come up at the president’s summit in Helsinki. Of course I discussed them with President Putin last Wednesday”, he added.

Netanyahu praised in his remarks what he described as the US President’s “firm policy” towards Iran, adding that since the policy was adopted “we have seen its significant impact on Iran”.

Can Iran Legally Close the Strait of Hormuz?

If Iran is serious about closing the strait, is the move legal under international law? The simple answer to this question is no.

Based on the international laws of the sea or the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea [PDF], Hormuz is an “international strait” because it is the only gateway between the Persian Gulf and the open sea. In all such straits, all ships have the right of transit and the countries adjacent to the strait must not deny this right of transit and must inform all relevant officials about any danger that might threaten the vessels or planes that travel through the strait. Under international laws and conventions, the right of transit cannot be suspended.

Washington’s Latest Myths, Lies and Oil Wars

As American motorists complain of rising gasoline prices, the Trump Administration and the oil and banking interests behind it are smiling on their way to the proverbial bank. If we look at seeming disparate events in Iran, in Venezuela and now in Libya it becomes clear there is a coherent strategy to promote disruption in key oil flows to the immediate advantage of US oil domination.

A decade ago the idea that the United States could displace Saudi Arabia or the Russian Federation as the world’s largest oil producer was considered unthinkable. Today it is clearly a foreign policy priority of the Trump Administration and the major Wall Street banks financing US shale oil production. The strategy is geopolitical and ultimately aims to weaken Russia, Iran and the other independent world oil producing powers like Venezuela.

Can Trump, Israel, and Gulf Allies Get Putin to Turn On Iran?

Days after Netanyahu’s visit to Moscow, Trump will meet with Putin in Helsinki. But despite talk of a “grand bargain” that enlists Russia in helping the US-Israel-Saudi-UAE front against Iran, don’t expect it to happen, says professor and syndicated columnist Rami Khouri
