Trump's Neocons See Erdogan As Their Ticket To A Region-Wide MidEast War

Authored by Mike Whitney via The Unz Review,

Turkish troops and armored units are massed along Turkey’s southern border awaiting orders to invade northern Syria. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wants to clear a ten mile-deep swath of land east of the Euphrates River in order to remove terrorist-linked militants (YPG) currently occupying the territory. The proposed offensive would put US Special Forces in the line of fire which significantly increases the likelihood of US casualties. If American troops are killed or wounded by the Turkish operation, Washington will respond in force leading to a potentially catastrophic face-off between the two NATO allies. The possibility of a violent clash between Turkey and the United States has never been greater than it is today.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder, in terms of the neocons, if plans are already in play for a "false flag" here, to be blamed on Turkey, as the US "provocation/justification" for an attack against it.

Dicey in the extreme?? But possible, as a way of distracting American voters who are fed up with Russiagate; stagnating salaries; and the horrific hardening of political lines in this country where, to some people, beating up someone who disagrees with you is a perfectly rational thing to do?!?

You bet your sweet bippy!!

And let us not forget that in tomorrow's Israeli election, Prime Minister Netanyahu is betting on re-election for a 5th term, in spite of corruption charges being laid against him.

He could really use international focus going...elsewhere.

Deal Of The Century (*UPDATE)

As Benjamin Netanyahu returns from Washington to Jerusalem determined to keep his seat as Israel’s prime minister, it is clear that the Final Status issues — those pesky issues between Israel and the Palestinians that Israel never wants to discuss – are being eliminated one by one in a regional scheme that is titled Deal of the Century. This so-called “Deal” will be the final undoing of Palestinian hopes for justice, self-determination and return

After Golan, are Trump and Netanyahu coming for West Bank?

A warning: If Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is still in office in late 2020 or 2024, when President Donald Trump’s time in office is coming to a close, there is a good chance the two leaders will declare American recognition of Israeli annexation of all or most of the occupied West Bank.

The precedent for such a move was put in place Monday as two significant anti-Arab events took place in Washington.

First, at the annual AIPAC conference, Democratic and Republican speakers alike ignored the Israeli occupation of Palestinian and Arab territory, choosing instead to rail against Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, who has been vilified for openly criticizing the powerful Israel lobby group’s outsize influence.

A bipartisan consensus pretended that AIPAC was being silenced, turning on its head the reality that the organization is supporting legislation seeking to silence supporters of Palestinian rights.

Is this the final showdown for control of Libyan oil?

We have seen many final battles of the Libyan Civil War, and yet, it continues on. There is more then a hint of foreign involvement, as the Libyan people would have exhausted themselves into a settlement before now.

Welcome to Neocolonialism in the 21st century. Tripoli appears to be up for grabs with General Haftar’s three pronged advance on the capital, but no major fighting along fixed lines has begun.

It is anyone’s guess at this point, and you will not see me betting even a dollar on how all this will play out. Libya is nothing if not unpredictable. But for the Libyan people, I hope their political suffering is over soon…>>>

THE MANAGEMENT OF SAVAGERY: PRO-WAR LOBBYISTS PUSH TO BAN BOOK EXPOSING REGIME CHANGE WARS

Authored by Alexander Rubinstein via MintPress News

The Syrian American Council and a collection of pro-war lobbyists have led an intimidation campaign aimed at bullying a major Washington-based bookstore, Politics and Prose, into canceling award-winning journalist and author Max Blumenthal’s launch event for his new book The Management of Savagery.

And it appears to have worked. Politics and Prose announced that it would “postpone” the event, citing “concerns” over the event’s “format, substance, … [and] security” in a tweet. In a testament to the ferocity of the harassment campaign against the small chain, the company has pinned the statement to the top of its Twitter page so that anyone visiting it sees immediately that they caved.

US calls for 'immediate halt' to Libya fighting

Libya's GNA forces announce 'counteroffensive' to defend Tripoli

Army of Tripoli-based government vows to reclaim all areas seized by forces loyal to renegade General Khalifa Haftar.

The army behind Libya's UN-backed government has announced a counteroffensive to defend Tripoli, vowing to reclaim all areas seized by forces loyal to renegade General Khalifa Haftar, who have been marching on the outskirts of the capital.

Colonel Mohamed Gnounou told reporters in Tripoli on Sunday that the counteroffensive, dubbed "Volcano of Anger", was aimed at "purging all Libyan cities of aggressor and illegitimate forces".

The announcement came as Haftar's forces said they conducted the first air raid on a Tripoli suburb as part of their aim to overthrow the internationally-recognised Government of National Accord (GNA) and control Tripoli.

The alleged attack came after GNA forces launched air raids on Haftar's self-styled Libyan National Army (LNA) around 50km south of Tripoli on Saturday, reportedly killing one person.

NETANYAHU: IF I WIN ELECTION, 'I WILL EXTEND SOVEREIGNTY'

(Haaretz) Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Israel’s Channel 12 News on Saturday evening that he will start extending Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank if re-elected prime minister in the election on April 9.

It remains unclear at this point whether Netanyahu was referring to all of the West Bank, or only parts of it.

“A Palestinian state will endanger our existence and I withstood huge pressure over the past eight years, no prime minister has withstood such pressure. We must control our destiny,” the premier said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Forgive me, Prime Minister Netanyahu; but could you, please possibly share with those who have read your promises to do this, (AFTER the 9 April, Israeli general elections, of course!) HOW a peaceful, democratic independent Palestine, trading with Israel and other countries in the region, can be a threat, and endanger Israel in any way?!?

So what will be your policy toward those Palestinians whose homes you are going to either demolish, or annex, as this flood of settlers comes in, claiming that the West Bank now all belongs exclusively to Israel and its Jewish settlers?!?

Will you have the IDF shooting them down, like fish in a barrel, should they refuse to go quietly, even the kids and toddlers?!? Do you intend to make this a "blood bath event"?? Or maybe you'll stream it, live, on an Israeli "pay for view" channel, so your voters can watch and listen?!?

I would politely suggest, Mr. Prime Minister, that the optics of such a slaughter will make your country the despised pariah in the world, and a country with which the world absolutely doesn't want to have to deal.

You and your brother and sister Israelis may see a BDS movement so intensely engineered, that there is no escape from it, and those who sell merchandise or services outside of Israel, will be clogging up the phones at the Knesset, with their anger.

Violence in occupation: orchards raided, trees bulldozed, hikers tear-gassed, two youths killed

Israeli soldiers have reported that a Palestinian was killed, and another injured [on Wednesday], when an Israeli settler [reported by Ma‘an to be Joshua Sherman, from the illegal settlement of Elon Moreh] opened fire on them near Beita town, south of Nablus. The Palestinian who was killed was identified as Mohammad Abdul-Mon’em Abdel-Fattah, 23, from Khirbet Qeis village in the Salfit district, in the northern West Bank. The one who was injured has been identified as Khaled Salah Rawajba, a 26-year-old resident of the village of Rojeeb, east of Nablus. He was shot in the abdomen and taken to Rafidia hospital in Nablus, where he remains in a moderate condition. The Israeli settler who shot and killed the young man tried to claim that “he had a knife” – but video footage taken by another Israeli settler on the scene, showing the brutal and callous treatment of Adel-Fattah’s body after he was killed, shows that there was no weapon.

‘BING!’ – Trump says he made Golan decision after a quick history lesson

US President Donald Trump said on Saturday he made the controversial decision to recognise Israel’s 1981 annexation of the Golan Heights after getting a quick history lesson during a conversation on a different subject, reported Reuters.

Speaking at the Republican Jewish Coalition gathering in Las Vegas, Trump said he made the snap decision during a discussion with his top Middle East peace advisers, including the US ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, and son-in-law Jared Kushner.

“I said, ‘Fellows, do me a favor. Give me a little history, quick. Want to go fast. I got a lot of things I’m working on: China, North Korea. Give me a quickie,” Trump said to laughter from the Las Vegas crowd.

“‘How do you like the idea of me recognising exactly what we’re discussing?'” said Trump, recounting the conversation.

Netanyahu vows to annex West Bank after Israeli polls

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Saturday that he would annex Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank if he wins another term in office, a last-minute pre-election promise likely to enrage Palestinians and the Arab world.

In an interview with Israeli Channel 12 News three days ahead of the 9 April poll, Netanyahu was asked why he had not extended sovereignty to large West Bank settlements, as Israel did without international recognition in east Jerusalem and the Golan Heights, both captured in the 1967 Middle East war.

“Who says that we won’t do it? We are on the way and we are discussing it,” Netanyahu said.

“You are asking whether we are moving on to the next stage – the answer is yes, we will move to the next stage. I am going to extend (Israeli) sovereignty and I don’t distinguish between settlement blocs and the isolated settlements.”

Turkey says ‘irresponsible’ Netanyahu cannot change West Bank status

Turkey on Sunday criticised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as “irresponsible” for saying he would annex Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank if he wins Tuesday’s election.

Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said the West Bank, which Israel seized in the 1967 Middle East war, was Palestinian territory and Israel’s occupation violated international law.

“Prime Minister Netanyahu’s irresponsible statement to seek votes just before the Israeli general elections cannot and will not change this fact,” Cavusoglu tweeted.

Netanyahu, asked why he had not declared Israeli sovereignty over large West Bank settlements as Israel has already done in the occupied Golan Heights and East Jerusalem, said he was already discussing the move.

More than 80 wounded in Gaza as protests enter 2nd year

Amidst calls from the organisers to be completely peaceful, thousands of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip yesterday once again took part in the Great March of Return (GMoR) protests along the eastern fence of the besieged enclave.

However, the peaceful protesters were met with a brutal Israeli crackdown, as Israeli forces used live ammunition and a new kind of teargas. This left 83 protesters wounded, Gaza’s Ministry of Health said, including one who sustained critical wounds to his face.

This is the first Friday after the one-million-man protest – which marked the first anniversary of the start of the Great March – in which peaceful protesters were met with a brutal Israeli crackdown, killing five protesters and wounding 315 others.

Speaking to MEMO, Hamas spokesman Abdul-Latif Al-Qanou said: “The GMoR protests will continue until the achievement of their main goal – the termination of the 12-year-old Israeli blockade imposed on Gaza.”

News media get it wrong on the Golan Heights

When the New York Times (3/26/19) reported on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s fait accompli pronouncement that nation-states can now seize territories acquired in defensive wars—after President Donald Trump announced via tweet that the United States asserts Israeli sovereignty over the Syrian Golan Heights—it seriously misled readers on the status of Israel’s illegal settlements on the occupied territories of the West Bank and the Golan Heights.

While the Washington Post’s report (3/26/19) on Netanyahu’s pronouncement made it clear that UN Security Council Resolution 497 in 1981 condemned Israel’s formal takeover of the Golan Heights as “null and void and without international legal effect,” the Times report, by David Halbfinger and Isabel Kershner, obscures the illegality of Israeli settlements by attempting to make “practical and legal distinctions” between the settlements in the West Bank and the Golan Heights.

Soldiers Invade Al-Khalil; Fire Live Ammunition at Protesters

Israeli occupation forces stormed into Al-Khalil (Hebron) and fired live ammunition at protesters, after bombarding the city with tear gas, stun grenades, and rubber-coated steel bullets.

At around 1pm, soldiers invaded Al-Khalil through checkpoint 56, where the soldiers fired stun grenades at protesters. Immediately following the assault with stun grenades, the soldiers fired tear gas into the street, forcing the protesters and press personnel to move. As the tear gas disappeared, protests continued. Israeli soldiers then proceeded to shoot protesters with rubber-coated bullets while continuing to fire stun grenades at protesters.

At one point, the soldiers switched from rubber-coated bullets to live ammunition. For approximately an hour, soldiers fired live ammunition and stun grenades at Palestinian protesters until eventually retiring behind the checkpoint, which was closed to the public at this time.

US policy

Ambassador James Jeffrey, the US special envoy for Syria, gave an under-reported press briefing on 25 March which made fairly plain the US strategy. Netanyahu, Israel's 'King Bibi', in quest for fifth term

Jerusalem (AFP) - Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's long domination of Israeli politics has earned him the nickname "King Bibi" but he now faces the twin risks of a strong political challenger in an April 9 election and possible indictment for corruption.

Should he win again for a fifth term in office, Netanyahu will be on track to surpass Israel's founding father David Ben-Gurion's record of more than 13 years in office.

But opinion polls show Netanyahu's right-wing Likud locked in a close battle with a centrist alliance led by former armed forces chief of staff Benny Gantz.

The attorney general has announced his intention to indict Netanyahu on fraud, bribery and breach of trust charges pending a hearing, which will be held after the election.

Netanyahu is not legally required to resign if indicted, only if convicted with all appeals exhausted, but political pressure would likely be intense.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Should Netanyahu get re-elected, this is bad news for Israelis, Palestinians, and the world in general.

These corruption charges are not going away, no matter how Netenyahu tries to minimize them as "a misunderstanding".

He is now a cornered, politically wounded animal; and both people, and animals are at their nastiest when they are both cornered, and wounded.

Today is 5 April; the Israeli General Elections are this Tuesday, 9 April.

I wonder just what kind of a stunt he will pull, to try to create in a "further misdirection " away from those charges. And heaven knows, there are opportunities abounding in terms of what he might do, like a strike into Syria; the re-taking of Gaza at gunpoint; or an invasion of Lebanon.

Just color me very concerned about this coming weekend, and what he may try to do to get the Israeli voting public, voting for him, rather than Gantz.

Wash; rinse; repeat.

IF true, color me completely unsurprised by this development.

No Exit Order

An irretrievable part of my existence was lost forever. It took one year and 3 court appeals to be allowed to see my newborn son.

A one night stand. No violence. No strings attached. How did I become the most despised father on earth? A situation twisted beyond compare.

Having this experience in mind, I began a deep research into why some mothers are doing this psychological abuse against fathers.

It didn’t take me long to discover that the “End is Near” nowadays, or some “Men Go Their Own Ways” MGTOW.

Or the existence of “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence” to call attention of sexual intolerance and satirises issues of gender and morality. While on top of this circus others believe in a sperm war happening all over the world.

And “radfems” or Radical Feminism within wealthy Nordic States like Norway and Sweden especially, leading the Amazonian crowd.

Candidate Pete Buttigieg: Israel’s Security Policy Offers “Important Lessons” for the US

— Presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg, whose candidacy is currently being heavily promoted by corporate media, was one of the many 2020 contenders for the Democratic Party who declined to attend the recent annual conference of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) in apparent response to calls from prominent “progressive” organizations to boycott the event and a growing shift among Democratic voters in favor of Palestinian rights.

However, despite his absence from the AIPAC conference, Buttigieg’s past public statements on the Israel/Palestine conflict echo those of pro-Israel stalwarts in the Democratic Party

Over 10,000 US forces are stationed in two occupied bases in al-Anbar province in Western Iraq, Iraqi sources reported on Thursday.

Turkey will not turn back from a major arms deal with Russia despite the US suspension of Ankara from the F-35 fighter-jet program, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Wednesday.

"The S-400 deal is a done deal and we will not step back from this," he told a think-tank forum in Washington, where he is taking part in 70th anniversary celebrations of NATO.

The United States said Monday that it was halting shipment of F-35 parts of Turkey as well as joint manufacturing work due to Ankara's purchase of the S-400 missile defense system from Russia.

Israeli group says network of bots is stumping for Netanyahu

An Israeli watchdog group said Monday that it found a network of social media bots disseminating messages in support of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of next week’s elections.

Noam Rotem and Yuval Adam, two researchers operating the Big Bots Project, said in a report that they uncovered hundreds of fake accounts spreading messages in support of Netanyahu’s Likud party and smearing his opponents. Likud denied the allegations.

Adam said his project discovered a network that included a number of real people, along with hundreds of Twitter accounts that appeared to be fake or duplicate.

“One person might be operating tens or hundreds of accounts at the same time,” he told The Associated Press.

Palestinians pray for fish as Israel opens deeper waters

As their rickety motorboats puttered out into deep Mediterranean waters for the first time in almost two decades, the Palestinian fishermen prayed for deepwater mackerel and tuna to supplement Gaza's usual shallows fare of sardines, shrimp and crab.

This week, as part of Egyptian-mediated efforts to ease the plight of 2 million residents of the blockaded Gaza Strip, Israel has extended the area where it permits Palestinians to fish.

"Such a distance has been off-limits. And hopefully there are lots of fish to bring back," said 69-year-old fisherman Ahmed al-Amoudi.

Last May, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg went to Israel with the American Jewish Committee and two weeks later discussed his trip with that organization. He also faulted fellow Democrats for making snap judgments based on “90-second cable news versions of what’s going on over there.”

Thousands of Palestinians along the border fence to the “Jewish State” have shown the international community what dignity and resistance means. It is frightening how the German press portrays this march and falsifies facts. When one reads the German editorial (D) media, one is already used to a lot of distortions, but what was reported this time to cover the first anniversary of the Great March of Return, exceeded any measure of objective reporting. Many of the articles read such that the inexperienced reader might think that it is not the Zionist occupiers but Hamas who are responsible for the blockade and misery in the Gaza concentration camp.

With Friends Like These: Abusive Frenemies and American Mideast Policy

Pop quiz: name the two largest (by far) recipients of U.S. foreign military aid and one other country which recently negotiated the biggest American arms sale deal in world history. Let’s call them the Big three (beneficiaries of largesse, that is).

Ready for the (not-so) shocking answers? So, the military dictatorship is Egypt – recipient of $1.3 billion in military aid per annum. The nation that conquered and annexed adjacent territory is Israel – the donee of some $3.1 billion in military aid each year; and, ironically, the state that US leaders regularly (if incorrectly) tout as the “only democracy in the Mideast.” And the charming, child-starving, woman-beheading regime: that’s the theocracy and absolute monarchy of Saudi Arabia – future owner (maybe) of a record $110 billion in US military equipment. Now that’s a proud lot!

Webmaster's Commentary:

Rewarding bad behaviour, at the national level, is one of the lousiest things the Unhinged, Surveilled State of America can do, and yet it continues doing just that.

Here's a good analogy; just think about a parent whose teenage son gets drunk, drives off while well tanked, and gets himself into an horrific accident, resulting in multiple deaths and woundings, and what does the dad do?!?

Goes out and gets the kid another car, of course!!

Folks, the US government is driving this world into an oblivion of hate, war, and pestilence, the likes of which humankind has never seen before. It appears that most members of the American political class (except for Ro Khanna, whose bi-partisan legislation to stop the US's wars I respect highly), believe that US foreign policy ... always has to come with bombs, bullets, and whatever hellfire they can conjure, raining down death from above, against any and every nation with the nerve to be sitting over some resource which the US government wants to expropriate, regime change that the government, and make sure that this resource is only sold with American dollars.

This formula is so transparent, that I cannot imagine why people don't see it; yet, because of all the distractions and diversions put in their way, US citizens just don't see it, or won't see it, until, unfortunately, it may be far too late to save this country, and the world, from an ELE (extinction level event).

I do believe that there is a different path this country should be taking, a path of peace, with a lot more positive outcomes than what I see in current foreign policy, but it will take a formidable, will and absolute honesty, of every American citizen, to make that happen.

I hope, and pray, that my brother and sister Americans are up to the journey. It will be long, and hard, and they may never mention our influence in history books yet to be written; but it is imperative that we come together, with hope and optimism, to make this world a better place.

U.S. Eyes New Front to Combat Iran in Golan Heights

The Trump administration’s recent recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the contested Golan Heights territory is part of a larger effort by the White House to open new fronts in efforts to combat Iranian militants and terror proxies in the region, according to U.S. officials familiar with the decision.

President Donald Trump won plaudits from the pro-Israel community and allies on Capitol Hill when he announced that America would officially recognize the Golan territory on Israel’s northern border as belonging to the Jewish state, which annexed the area following war with Syria several decades ago.

U.S. officials last week faced down critics of this decision at the United Nations, a forum unfriendly to the Jewish state, telling member countries that the Trump administration will take every step necessary to protect Israel’s right to self defense against Iranian militants and Hezbollah fighters who have used the Golan area to launch terrorist attacks on Israel.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Now, it makes sense that President Trump may well think that the Golan Area is the perfect "base" from which he can attack Iranian and Syrian forces, and that was why he tried to lend some "credibility and legitimacy" to Israel's having annexed this area.

Prepare to see major deployments of US military into this area, and most probably, very soon.

Video: US Says Syrian Army Must Withdraw from Golan Heights’ Contact Line

On March 28, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu came with a new statement claiming that his country will continue working against Iranian presence in Syria. The statement shows that the Israeli military is set to continue its military campaign in Syria.

In own turn, the US did not limit its recent actions in support of Tel Aviv to recognizing the Golan Heights as Israeli territory. It also demanded the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) to withdraw from the separation line area established in the framework of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. US-Israeli efforts to force the SAA to do so could easily turn the Golan Heights into a new hot point and fuel the Syrian conflict further.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, this may be precisely what the US and Israel are hoping, and planning for; The Israeli elections are only 7 days away, on 9 April, so having a military "win" if Syrian forces either attack, or refuse to pull back, would distract the Israeli voting public from Netanyahu's corruption trial.

The big question is, if this happens, what will Russia do?!?!?

Harvard undergrad council votes to fund Israeli Apartheid Week

Harvard University’s Undergraduate Council (UC) voted to allocate the Palestine Solidarity Committee (PSC) $2,050 to host Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW) at Sunday’s general meeting.

According to student newspaper the Crimson, “the bill to fund IAW passed 21-13-4 and drew money from the UC’s Grant for an Open Harvard College, which subsidizes student initiatives that address one of the UC’s indicated ‘compelling interests’.”

The interests for the 2018-19 academic year are “mental health, race, culture, and faith relations, sexual assault and harassment prevention, social spaces, and financial accessibility.”

The report stated that “the PSC planned much of the programming of Harvard’s event, which began on March 30 and runs until April 4”, including “Palestinian speakers, a student panel, an unveiling of a physical Wall of Resistance, and a movie screening”.

How Israel spies on US campaigners

This week on The Electronic Intifada Podcast, co-hosts Nora Barrows-Friedman and Asa Winstanley are joined by Hatem Bazian, a lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley, and chair of American Muslims for Palestine.

Bazian talks about being the target of a black ops intimidation campaign reportedly organized by Psy-Group, an Israeli intelligence firm staffed by former Mossad agents, which spied on activists and professors on US campuses.

In 2017, when he walked outside his Berkeley home to take his young daughter to school, Bazian says that flyers were posted on the windshields of cars with images of his face and that of Rebecca Vilkomerson, the executive director of Jewish Voice for Peace, accusing them of being terrorists and supporting terrorism.

The flyers were also posted on the windshields of cars in downtown Berkeley, close to the university campus entrance, and similar ones were posted around the campus itself.

GIVING ISRAEL THE GOLAN HEIGHTS IS THE PRICE PAID BY ASSAD TO STAY IN POWER

Trump’s decision not only preserves the status quo and legitimises Israel’s occupation, but is also tantamount to declaring war on international norms, represented by the UN and international law. At a stroke he has imposed the law of the jungle on the Middle East and its people.

Whether the Golan Heights was sold for money or a guarantee of the presidency for Hafez Al-Assad, or both, is not really the issue. Either way, the betrayal is clear. The result was Israel’s occupation of the Golan Heights and Hafez Al-Assad becoming president after his military coup against President Nureddin Al-Atassi in 1971.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is an interesting observation; but the real question, and the true "power behind the throne" behind Syria, is Russia.

And I have to ask; will Russia allow this to remain a stable situation?!? My sense is that President Putin is, by both nature and intelligence, a cautious man, and will simply allow this to continue. But if there are any more "nicks and scrapes" against the sovereignty of Syria in other parts of the country, by either Israel and/or the US (which still has troops in Syria, BTW) Putin may "turn loose", militarily, on both entities.

I would like to hope (and pray) that such a scenario will not happen; this country's military doesn't have the weaponry; the troop strength; the money, or the manufacturing, to insure a positive outcome to a war against Russia in Syria (or anywhere else).

'Shoot to maim': How Israel created a generation on crutches in Gaza

Israeli snipers have intentionally maimed Palestinians protesting in Gaza over the past year, creating a generation of disabled youth and overwhelming the territory's already crippled medical system, frontline doctors tell Middle East Eye.

According to a United Nations inquiry released this month, over 80 percent of the 6,106 protesters wounded in the first nine months of the Great March of Return were shot in the lower limbs.

Israeli soldiers intentionally shot civilians and may have committed war crimes in their heavy-handed response to the protests, which have been held regularly across Gaza since 30 March 2018, the report concluded.

Healthcare providers say the pattern of wounds shows that Israeli soldiers are purposefully shooting to maim protesters, most of whom are in their 20s and now require long-term medical care.

In a campaign already marred by pending corruption and bribery charges, Netanyahu's Likud party certainly does not need another scandal with eight days left before Israelis head to the polls. Nonetheless, a selectively released report by Noam Rotem and Yuval Adam of social-media watchdog group Big Bots Project claims that a nexus of hundreds of fake accounts has been disseminating messages of support for the ruling party, while maliciously attacking their opponents. While it is difficult to say exactly how many fake accounts were actually involved, the project identified at least 400.

Trump’s Golan Heights Stunt Ends Need for Israel-Syria-Palestine Talks - Scholar

The United States' decision to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights has reportedly increased tensions in the Middle East.

Last week, US President Donald Trump signed a proclamation formally recognizing Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.

The Golan Heights has been mostly under Israel's control since the country seized the territory during the 1967 Six Day War. While Israel adopted a law to annex the territory in 1981, the United Nations declared the move void, without any legal effects. In 2018, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution urging Israel to immediately withdraw its forces from the territory after the country organized local elections in the area on 30 October.
