The Significance of the US Israel Failure at the UN General Assembly

The US and Israel exerted a lot of effort in trying to ensure that the resolution was passed because while General Assembly resolutions are non-binding on member states, they are considered to be a barometer of world opinion.

A US-drafted resolution condemning the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas and other Palestinian factions has failed to get the required majority for adoption by the UN General Assembly. This was despite the US “warning” countries which planned to vote against the proposal.

Netanyahu’s latest corruption case could expose long hidden secrets about Israel’s nuclear weapons program

Milchan needed Netanyahu’s help to secure a long-term visa in the States because his long enjoyed right to long term visas had been revoked. Milchan, an Israeli citizen, was the regular recipient of ten-year U.S. visas until the right was revoked over his confession that he had been working in America on behalf of Israeli intelligence.

Milchan is an Israeli billionaire who is publicly known in the U.S as the Hollywood producer of over 150 movies, including Birdman, Brazil, JFK, Pretty Woman, The Revenant and 12 Years a Slave. He owned over thirty companies in seventeen countries. But at least some of those companies were fronts. According to the biography Confidential: The Life of Secret Agent Turned Hollywood Producer, Milchan set up straw companies and secret bank accounts around the world whose purpose was to finance Israel’s secret Dimona nuclear plant.

UNGA Adopts Resolution Calling for End to Israel’s Occupation of Palestine

The UN General Assembly voted in favor of a resolution calling to end the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories, current President of the UN General Assembly Maria Espinosa said in a statement.

"The result of the vote is as follows: 156 in favor, six against, 12 abstentions," Espinosa said on Thursday. "The draft resolution is adopted."

New York University student government adopts BDS-inspired divestment resolution

The New York University (NYU) Student Government Assembly passed a divestment resolution inspired by the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement (BDS) last night, in what campaigners hailed as “the first resolution of this nature ever to be presented at NYU”.

According to a press release by NYU Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), the vote was carried by 35 votes in favour, and 14 against, with 14 abstentions, thus meeting the two-thirds threshold required.

The resolution, backed by 61 student groups and 34 faculty members, calls for “divesting from corporations that violate Palestinian human rights and calls on NYU to adopt a socially responsible investment policy that upholds human rights for all”.

Israel furious as prestigious French human rights award goes to B’Tselem, Al-Haq

Israeli and Palestinian human rights groups B’Tselem and Al-Haq have both received a prestigious French award, prompting a furious response from Israeli officials.

The five laureates of the 2018 Human Rights Prize of the French Republic were announced on Wednesday, an award which honours individuals or organisations that promote human rights.

The award ceremony will take place at the Ministry of Justice in Paris on 10 December, on the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Attendees will include French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe and Justice Minister Nicole Belloubet.

Israel pressuring Germany to de-fund publications, group calling for Palestinian rights

Assault on free speech has been a common feature of Israeli governments. This week another example of its efforts to silence critical voices was revealed by the +972 magazine, which reported details of a campaign by the right-wing Netanyahu government to de-fund independent publications and human rights organisations.

In an effort to dry up the funding of the magazine and number of human rights organisations including Breaking the Silence, and B’Tselem, Israel asked the German government to pressure two left-leaning political foundations that provide funding to these organisations.

The world condemns Israel

My opinion of the terrorist Benjamin Netanyahu is well known and I have expressed it several times in my articles. Today I will refer back to the UN and six resolutions against Israel that were supported by the international organisation’s member states.

The most important resolution is related to Jerusalem and it rejects Israel’s sovereignty over the Holy City by 148 votes to 11, with 14 abstentions.

Judaisation of Jerusalem – Cartoon [Sabaaneh/MiddleEastMonitor]

There was another resolution on the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. It was supported by 156 countries and opposed by eight with 12 abstentions. The resolution speaks of the Haram Al-Sharif and does not refer to the Temple Mount, as Israel calls it.

Israel dug under the Haram Al-Sharif and found neither a first, second or third temple. All of these are myths that are baseless in history and geography.

The relentless censorship of anti-Zionist Jews

Tony Greenstein is slowly but surely being disappeared from the internet. A renowned anti-Zionist Jew who has long been active in the Palestine solidarity movement and on the wider political left, Greenstein is being censored by powerful American internet companies. In the latest incident, his account on Twitter has been “suspended”, the company’s misleading euphemism for “deleted”.

This means that not only is Greenstein no longer allowed to post on the influential social media platform, but also that everything he ever posted on Twitter is no longer available to view. Go onto Twitter now and type in @TonyGreenstein – his former “handle” – and you’ll see nothing but a cryptic message.

The US and Israel exerted a lot of effort in trying to ensure that the resolution was passed, because while General Assembly resolutions are non-binding on member states, they are considered to be a barometer of world opinion. Introducing the resolution, the US Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, appealed for countries to put to one side their different views of the Israel-Palestine conflict and vote for the resolution. At one stage, Haley seemed to be begging member states not to oppose the US text.

Israeli Army Denied Soldiers Threw Gas Canister Into Hebron School. Then a Video Surfaced

An Israeli soldier was filmed shooting tear gas into a Palestinian school in Hebron during school hours, despite military denials. A military source later said the soldier apparently shot in response to rocks thrown by students.

Palestinians have reported that soldiers have been shooting tear gas and stun grenades into schools, but the Israel Defense Forces has denied such incidents. Haaretz obtained a video documenting at least one such incident.

Last week, Palestinians reported to Israeli veterans’ anti-occupation group Breaking the Silence an increase in the scope of tear gas launched at Hebron schools located in an area of Hebron where many schools can be found, including primary schools.

In the Gaza Strip, the Israeli forces continued to use lethal force against the participants in the peaceful protests organized along the Gaza Strip borders, which witnessed the peaceful protests for the 35th week along the eastern and northern border area of the Gaza Strip. They also continued to use armed force as well during the incursions into the West Bank. In the West Bank, the Israeli forces on the international Day of Persons with Disabilities killed a Palestinian civilian with a disability in Tulkarm and wounded 5 others. In the Gaza Strip, the Israeli forces wounded 98 civilians, including 28 children, 4 women, 2 journalists, and a female paramedic. The injury of four of those wounded was reported serious.

Irish Senate Approves Boycott of Goods Made in Settlements

The Irish Senate voted, on Wednesday, to pass a bill to boycott the trade and importing of goods originating from illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Colluding in war crimes: Britain's unreported military alliance with Israel

Britain’s international trade secretary, Liam Fox, recently visited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, pledging to increase trade and investment between the two countries, which already stands at a record $9bn.

While more than 230 Palestinians have been killed and thousands more injured by Israeli forces since March, London’s ties with Tel Aviv are growing ever stronger.

Yet, I cannot find a single article in the British “mainstream” media noting the depth of supportive UK policies towards Israel. This media blackout is allowing Britain to continue backing Israeli aggression in the occupied territories with impunity.

For U.S. Police, Refusing Israeli Training Is Not BDS – It’s Common Sense

Decisions last week by two American police departments to withdraw from a training seminar with the Israeli police are fueling debate within Israel and the United States about the merits of the BDS movement – the 2005 Palestinian civil society call to boycott cooperation with official Israeli institutions, even where the activity itself is otherwise innocuous. BDS activists aim to pressure Israel to end the occupation, grant equal rights to Palestinian citizens of Israel and realize the right of return for Palestinian refugees, much as sports boycotts were a tool to pressure South Africa to end Apartheid. Yet thus far, most of the American individuals and institutions canceling their Israel-related activities have done so not as part of a general boycott but rather due to concerns about complicity in specific and serious human rights abuses.

NETANYAHU THREATENS LEBANON WITH INVASION. SYRIAN, RUSSIAN FORCES RESCUE CIVILIANS IN EUPHRATES VALLEY

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that there is a “reasonable possibility” that the Israeli military may have to conduct operations inside Lebanon territory. This move will go in the framework of the ongoing Operation Northern Shield, which is aimed at discovering and neutralizing Hezbollah cross-border tunnels.

Netanyahu also revealed that Israel will call for a U.N. Security Council meeting soon to demand a condemnation of the alleged Hezbollah actions.

“Israel expects an unequivocal condemnation of Hezbollah, the imposition of additional sanctions on Iran, a condemnation from the Lebanese government and a demand that it stops giving its approval for the use of its territory for these attacks against Israel,” Netanyahu said.

So far, Operation Northern Shield has been carried out on the Israeli side of the contact line only. However, Hezbollah already put its forces on high alert and warned Israel that it’s ready to respond to any aggression.

The twisted logic of the Jewish ‘historic right’ to Israel

Even when I believed, mistakenly, that the "Jewish people" was exiled by the Romans in 70 C.E. or 132 C.E., I didn't think that this conferred on the Jews some sort of imagined "historic right" to the Holy Land. If we seek to organize the world as it was 2,000 years ago, we will turn it into one big madhouse. Why not bring Native Americans back to Manhattan, for example? ... As I pursued my research, my realization that the Exodus from Egypt never happened and that the inhabitants of the Kingdom of Judah were not exiled by the Romans, left me nonplussed. There is not one study by a historian who specializes in antiquity that recounts that "exile" or any serious historiographic study that reconstructs a mass migration from the place. The "exile" is a formative event that never took place

Ya’alon admits Israel lied about Hezbollah’s tunnels

Former Israeli defence minister Moshe Ya’alon admitted on Thursday that the Israeli officials had for years lied about the existence of alleged Hezbollah tunnels beneath the Lebanon-Israel border.

Speaking to Israel’s Army Radio, Ya’alon said that the Israeli officials lied about the tunnels for years before they decided to carry out an operation to destroy them earlier this week.

“We did it to mislead the other side,” Ya’alon told the Army Radio. “There is an exaggeration in the way it [the operation] was presented, and I hope that does not hurt us,” he added.

Regarding previous remarks he delivered in 2016 that there was “no single tunnel” in the north, Ya’alon said: “My comments two years ago that there are no tunnels in the north was a lie in order to preserve the security of the state.”

However, he believes that there is an exaggeration regarding the ongoing operation.

US pressures Arab states to support its anti-Hamas resolution at UN

America has been putting pressure on a number of Arab states in order to get them vote today in favour of a draft resolution it has introduced at the UN which condemns the Palestinian resistance.

According to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, the US Special Representative for International Negotiations Jason Greenblatt sent letters to diplomats from nine Arab countries asking them to support the US draft.

Haaretz reported that Greenblatt sent the letter sent to diplomats from Morocco, Oman, Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Qatar.

In the letter he wrote that the Palestinian Authority’s opposition to the US proposal is “hypocrisy as it considers Hamas an enemy and imposes sanctions on it in Gaza,” while at the same time it defends its “terrorism”, Arab48 reported.

The PA and Fatah have criticised the US draft resolution, considering it “absolute” American support for the Israeli occupation against the Palestinians.

The authority said it only give licenses to such projects in “Areas A and B” of the occupied West Bank where the PA has full administrative sovereignty according to Oslo Peace Accords.

Operation Northern Shield: Israel’s new wars

Israel announced yesterday morning a military and engineering operation, which it dubbed “Operation Northern Shield”, aimed at destroying what it alleges are offensive tunnels belonging to the Lebanese resistance group, Hezbollah, on the border with Lebanon. This operation represents Israel’s new approach to war, which has been Israel’s favourite in recent years. It calls this approach “the War Between Wars” (WBW) which involves fighting battles with limited goals and avoids direct confrontation, instead relying on intelligence. It focuses on air force and special forces operations in a manner in line with the army’s 2015 strategic document. Why WBW and why “Operation Northern Shield”?

The Israeli newspaper states that Bush “made clear the cost of an American president waging a political fight against the vast coalition of pro-Israel lobbying groups. In doing so, he exposed the limits of what the world’s most powerful man can do” when opposed by Israel partisans.

In 1991 Bush told Israel that the U.S. would not give Israel $10 million in loan guarantees until Israel stopped building settlements in the West Bank and Gaza. (Settlements are illegal under international law.*)

Blain: "Are We Backing The Wrong Country In The Saudi-Iran Race"

A digression: Saudi vs Iran?

I had a number of comments about Monday’s porridge on the significance of Qatar pulling out of Opec, and what next for Saudi. What is the relevance for markets they asked?

That’s interesting question. Donald Trump recently told us that his successful negotiations and personal relationship with Mohammed bin Salman attracted planned investment of $450 bln into the US, including $110 bln in defence orders, from Saudi Arabia. He warned all that could be undone if we don’t turn a blind eye to the Khashoggi murder.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If Americans were permitted to travel there, I would love to tour Iran.

The art; the music; the continuity of history; the push the country is making toward educating both their young men, and their young women, encourages me to think that given time and space, it could be absolutely thriving state, and a great trading partner for the world

Unfortunately, Netanyahu's usual dystopian, hubristic view of Iran means only one thing; it must be destroyed in a horrendous war, but that the costs of such a war will only be borne...in American blood, and American money.

It is more than a little disconcerting to me, that President Trump's two best friends in the Middle East, are Prince bin Salman, the Saudi Butcher of Yemen, and Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, the Israeli Butcher of Gaza.

Leaked report: Israel acknowledges Jews in fact Khazars; Secret plan for reverse migration to Ukraine

Followers of Middle Eastern affairs know two things: always expect the unexpected, and never write off Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who has more political lives than the proverbial cat.

Only yesterday came news that Syrian rebels plan to give Israel the Golan Heights in exchange for creation of a no-fly zone against the Assad regime. In an even bolder move, it is now revealed, Israel will withdraw its settlers from communities beyond the settlement blocs—and relocate them at least temporarily to Ukraine. Ukraine made this arrangement on the basis of historic ties and in exchange for desperately needed military assistance against Russia. This surprising turn of events had an even more surprising origin: genetics, a field in which Israeli scholars have long excelled.

The measure, known as the Israel Anti-Boycott Act, was shelved earlier amid concerns about the infringement of free speech, after civil liberties groups argued that the original version would have allowed criminal penalties for Americans who participate in a political boycott of Israel. Some of the more aggressive elements of the provision have been removed under pressure, but the American Civil Liberties Union, which spearheaded the initial opposition to the bill, is still strongly opposed.

Israel’s New War of Attrition on Jerusalem’s Palestinians

Czech president Milos Zeman offered Benjamin Netanyahu’s ultra-nationalist government a fillip during his visit to Israel last week. He inaugurated a cultural and trade center, Czech House, just outside Jerusalem’s Old City walls.

At the opening, he expressed hope it would serve as a precursor to his country relocating its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. If so, the Czech Republic would become the first European state to follow US President Donald Trump’s lead in moving the US embassy in May.

It is this kind of endorsement that, of late, has emboldened Mr. Netanyahu’s government, the Israeli courts, Jerusalem officials and settler organizations to step up their combined assault on Palestinians in the Old City and its surrounding neighborhoods.

Israel has never hidden its ambition to seize control of East Jerusalem, Palestinian territory it occupied in 1967 and then annexed, as a way of preventing a viable Palestinian state from emerging.

Possible Congressional move on Israel Anti-Boycott Act alarms activists

Pro-Palestine and free speech activists who have been mobilizing against the Israel Anti-Boycott Act are sounding an alarm about rumors of a secret attempt this week to slip the legislation, which the ACLU has declared unconstitutional even in its revised form, into the must-pass House spending bill.

Despite having 292 House cosponsors and 58 in the Senate, Congressional leaders have not brought the IABA to a vote during the 115th Congress. Now, with just days before Democrats take control of the House, and with numerous cosponsors leaving office due to retirements and midterm losses, time could be running out.

The declining chances for the passage next year of the IABA, a longtime AIPAC priority, may account for machinations like the rumored attempt to slip it into the appropriations bill. A newsletter from Unitarian Universalists for Justice in the Middle East (UUJME) warns:

Can leftist Jews really be part of the struggle for justice for Palestinians—a justice that hinges on an end to the violation of our basic human rights, including the Right of Return of refugees—by making Aliyah to the country that privileges them, simply because they are Jewish? According to the Israeli side, the IDF eliminated at least one Hezbollah tunnel – a 200m-long construction, which reportedly penetrated 40 meters into Israel near the northern town of Metulla. Currently, the IDF operation is ongoing on the Israeli side of the contact line. However, the IDF openly stated that the military effort might be expanded into Lebanese territory.

On the evening of December 4, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Operation Northern Shield is aimed at targeting an alleged broader push by Hezbollah the Israeli leader is being accused of corruption to capture parts of Galilee from Israel.

He described the IDF actions as a part of “a wide ongoing operation”, which will not end until all its goals are achieved.

One instance of Saudi’s collusion in an Israeli war crime

Trump claimed that without Washington’s ‘strong ally’ Saudi Arabia,Israel would be forced ‘to leave’ the region.

This frank admission brings to mind Israel’s wanton attack on 7 June, 1981 on Iraq and the bombing and destruction of Iraq’s near completed reactor for peaceful purposes, Tammuz 1, by 8 Israeli fighter jets which flew at low altitude over the Saudi and then the Iraqi desert.

Controlling the Israel Message: How to Manage the American Sheeple

Hill was fired by CNN within 24 hours. The message is clear. You can criticize Christianity, Muslims, white males, Donald Trump and the American government at will ... but never, never go after Jews or Israel even indirectly if you want to keep your job ... To be sure, CNN is pro-Israeli in its reporting and, more important, in terms of choosing what not to report. Its lead political anchor is Wolf Blitzer, a former American Israeli Political Action Committee (AIPAC) employee, who speaks Hebrew and has lived in Israel. Like most major American mainstream media outlets, CNN has numerous Jewish employees working to select, edit and produce the news stories that actually air, well placed to manage what does finally go out to the public. Reports critical of Israel or Jews are not welcome anywhere in the U.S. national media ...

Jerusalem al-Quds at boiling point as Israel cements grip

US President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem al-Quds as Israel's capital has set off an increasingly visible battle between the Israelis and the Palestinians in the city's eastern sector.

Observers have warned that Trump’s decision has already emboldened Israel to cement its control over the contested area which the Palestinians view as the capital of their future state.

They also say the move could give Israel an extended hand to devoid the ancient city of its Palestinian characteristics.

    Pushback Against Israel Is Beginning

The Anglophone Israel Lobby benefits from its ability to mold the media narrative while at the same time using financial incentives to corrupt the political class. For those who do not succumb to the corruption, there is always the option of direct pressure, which in the United States and Britain consists of targeted interference in the political system to remove critics either through promotion of scandal or by supporting well-funded alternative candidates in the following election. In the United States, this has led to the removal of a number of congressmen who had dared to criticize the Jewish state, terrifying the remainder into silence. All of this goes on with little or no debate in the media or in congress itself.

    Palestine in Pictures: November 2018

Twenty-two Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip were killed by Israeli fire during the month of November.

Around 290 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli occupation forces since the beginning of the year. Twelve Israelis were slain by Palestinians during the same period, as well as a Palestinian from the West Bank killed by a rocket fired from Gaza.

Some 180 Palestinians have been shot dead and nearly 6,000 others injured by live fire during Great March of Return protests in Gaza.

Fourteen of those Palestinians killed by occupation forces during November were slain over more than 48 hours of intense hostilities across the Gaza-Israel boundary. The fighting was triggered by a gun battle that erupted when Hamas forces discovered an Israeli commando unit operating clandestinely in Gaza on 11 November. Seven Hamas fighters and an Israeli lieutenant colonel were killed during the initial confrontation.

France-Israel propaganda “season” ends in failure

A major propaganda effort sponsored by the French and Israeli governments has been a failure, Israeli officials are acknowledging.

The so-called Saison France-Israël, or France-Israel Season, was a series of hundreds of “cultural” events backed by both governments, running for six months until the end of November.

“We were hoping that culture would have a diplomatic impact. We put an enormous amount of money into this operation, which had zero success regarding Israel’s image in France, or that of France here,” an Israeli diplomatic source told the newspaper Le Monde last week.

BDS France, a group that supports the boycott, divestment and sanctions campaign, is celebrating the admission of failure as a victory for activism in support of Palestinian rights.

Friend of Khashoggi sues Israeli spyware company

Saudi activist Omar Abdulaziz filed a lawsuit against Israeli cyber warfare company NSO Group in Tel Aviv on Sunday, on the basis that the company’s malware intercepted conversations between the activist and slain Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

The lawsuit alleges the spyware company violates international law through selling its software to oppressive regimes that use it to violate human rights, CNN reported.

Khashoggi disappeared after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on 2 October, where he was killed and dismembered by a hit squad sent from Saudi Arabia.

After a number of attempts at muddying the waters, Saudi Arabia eventually admitted the Washington Post columnist was slain inside the building.

And here is a link to his book, Nobody: Casualties of America’s War on the Vulnerable, from Ferguson to Flint and Beyond, which everyone should buy and read.

CNN would have been under special pressure to fire Hill because he is a prominent African-American intellectual with a following in his own community, and the Israeli Ministry of Strategic Affairs (the propaganda arm of the Likud government) is worried about the boycott and sanctions movement spreading among American minorities who might sympathize with the oppressed Palestinians.

The lawsuit against Airbnb’s de-listing of Israeli settlement properties sounds pretty flimsy: religious discrimination (illegal settlements are by definition all-Jewish); failure to provide equal access (Palestinians are barred completely – and it’s their land); Airbnb is siding with Palestinians against the occupation (everything about the occupation and settlements is illegal, so, yeah).

Israel undercover forces posed as medical workers, used ID cards of real Palestinians

Israeli forces posed as medical aid workers and used “detailed but fake” ID cards of real Palestinian residents during their thwarted undercover raid in the occupied Gaza Strip last month.

According a report in the Independent, citing a number of Hamas sources, the Palestinians civilians whose identities had been “stolen” came from across the enclave “but not the area where the Israeli uncover operation was taking place”, in case “they were discovered by local residents”.

Hazem Qassem, a Hamas spokesperson, said the ID cards were “very accurate”, and included the correct full names, ID numbers and details of the residents.

Qassam told the paper that the Israeli soldiers were posing as aid workers when their car was stopped. “[They] were posing as NGO workers, there were women in the car as well. They used this to justify why they were stealing into Gaza and had a story prepared should they be questioned”.

Israel’s Supreme Court approves pre-conviction punitive house demolition

Israel’s Supreme Court yesterday backed a decision by the army to carry out a punitive home demolition in Am’ari refugee camp in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.

The petition was brought by the family of Islam Yousef Abu Hamid, who has been charged by Israeli occupation authorities with throwing a marble slab from a roof at invading Israeli soldiers during a night time raid of the camp in May. One soldier was hit on the head and died.

The ruling came despite the fact that Abu Hamid has not yet even been convicted. The court also supported the planned demolition of all four storeys of the building in question.

According to the report, Justice Yael Wilner rejected the Palestinian family’s petition “saying that Israeli military courts are not legally required to wait for a conviction before issuing demolition orders”. Israeli military courts have a near 100 per cent conviction rate of Palestinians.

Israel wages a New War of Attrition in Jerusalem

Czech president Milos Zeman offered Benjamin Netanyahu’s ultra-nationalist government a fillip during his visit to Israel last week. He inaugurated a cultural and trade centre, Czech House, just outside Jerusalem’s Old City walls.

At the opening, he expressed hope it would serve as a precursor to his country relocating its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. If so, the Czech Republic would become the first European state to follow US President Donald Trump’s lead in moving the US embassy in May.

It is this kind of endorsement that, of late, has emboldened Mr Netanyahu’s government, the Israeli courts, Jerusalem officials and settler organisations to step up their combined assault on Palestinians in the Old City and its surrounding neighbourhoods.

Israel has never hidden its ambition to seize control of East Jerusalem, Palestinian territory it occupied in 1967 and then annexed, as a way of preventing a viable Palestinian state from emerging.

That’s not just some kind of game board slogan, it’s the daily policy and practice of the state of Israel. Trump keeps suggesting that he wants peace between Israel and the Palestinians, but offers no plan that has a chance of working, precisely because Israel has no interest in peace. What Israel wants is Palestinian land for its settlements… and water. Israel's Gas Pipeline to Europe Too Punny and Too Expensive to Really Worry Gazprom

The planned capacity is much smaller than what Russia provides, besides, the demand in Europe is rising anyway. It’s being billed as a counter to both Arab and Russian power but that’s not really true. This will supposedly deliver 20 bcm annually to Cyprus, Greece and Italy and come at a significant cost because of the challenge of it. But the first train will be 10 bcm according to IGI Poseiden’s website, the company building the pipeline. 10 bcm is similar in size to the Southern Gas Corridor bringing gas in from Azerbaijan. The agreement has been some two years in the works, with the four countries’ energy czars signing a memorandum of understanding regarding the pipeline in December 2017. It is considered a technically difficult project to complete not only because of the depth of the undersea route, but also because it will have to pass through a volcanic area in the ocean bottom between Cyprus and Greece. No discussion of cost was in the announcement.

IRAN LAUNCHES NEW DOMESTIC BUILT STEALTH DESTROYER IN PERSIAN GULF

On Saturday Iran unveiled its first stealth destroyer in a televised ceremony wherein the warship was launched into operation in the Persian Gulf at a moment that tensions with the US continue to soar.

The Sahand stealth capable ship is also entirely Iranian-made and will be based at Iran's naval base in Bandar Abbas on the Gulf. Military officials touted its capability of deploying for five months on the seas without resupply, and cutting edge defense technology including electronic warfare capabilities, surface-to-air missiles, and torpedo launchers, and most importantly its purported ability to evade enemy radar.

The Sahand has stealth capabilities, surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles and electronic warfare capabilities, state TV IRNA reported.

This is a natural outcome of the threats made by Saudi Arabia, Israel and the United States against Iran.

I mean, come on: were the Iranians just supposed to roll over and play dead, because of their alleged "existential threat" to Israel or Saudi Arabia?!?

US SECRETARY OF STATE POMPEO CONDEMNS IRAN MISSILE TEST

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Saturday condemned what he described as Iran’s testing of a medium-range ballistic missile capable of carrying multiple warheads as a violation of the international agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program.

Amid tension between Washington and Tehran over ballistic missiles, Pompeo warned in a statement released on Twitter that Iran is increasing its “testing and proliferation” of missiles and called on the Islamic Republic to “cease these activities.”

US President Donald Trump pulled out of an international nuclear agreement in May and reimposed sanctions on Tehran, criticising the deal for not including curbs on Iran’s development of ballistic missiles or its support for proxies in Syria, Yemen, Lebanon and Iraq.

    Webmaster's Commentary:

Will SOMEONE in the room please give Pompeo some Calcium and Magnesium, please, before the guy has a conniption?!?

Here is the UN resolution on these issues:

Here is what the resolution actually states:

    Resolution 2231 (2015)

    Ballistic missile-related transfers and activities
What are the restrictions on Iranian ballistic missile activities?
Paragraph 3 of Annex B of resolution 2231 (2015) calls upon Iran not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons, including launches using such ballistic missile technology.

What are the restrictions on ballistic missile-related transfers to or activities with Iran?

Resolution 2231 (2015)The document goes on to state:

    "Ballistic missile-related transfers and activities

What are the restrictions on Iranian ballistic missile activities?
Paragraph 3 of Annex B of resolution 2231 (2015) calls upon Iran not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons, including launches using such ballistic missile technology.

What are the restrictions on ballistic missile-related transfers to or activities with Iran?

Pursuant to paragraph 4 of Annex B of resolution 2231 (2015), if approved in advance on a case-by-case basis by the Security Council, all States may participate in and permit:

the supply, sale or transfer directly or indirectly from their territories, or by their nationals or using their flag vessels or aircraft to or from Iran, or for the use in or benefit of Iran, and whether or not originating in their territories."

But, unfortunately for his outrage (which needs a separate room for some rational containment at this point, )Mr. Pompeo cannot prove that these missiles are being engineered for nuclear usage; they are simply medium range ballistic missiles which are capable of carrying multiple warheads. And with so many countries looking to attempt to take a "bite" out of Iran, (like Saudi Arabia, Israel, and the US), why does Iran not have the right to take care of itself militarily, and work on domestically produced missiles with which which can defend itself?!?

    Oh, and Mr. Pompeo, one more thing that you didn't get with your morning "memos" a couple of months ago, must have been the following;

Per IAEA inspections, Iran still compliant on the P5+30 deal

So, Sir, if the IAEA states that Iran is still in compliance with the P5+1 agreement, how in the name of heaven can you state, with a straight face, that the test Iran did "violates UNSCR 2231", when you cannot prove, incontrovertibly, that the test was for a nuclear bomb?!? The short, moral and logical answer is, you cannot.

Multiple, Sir: not nuclear. One begins with an M, not an O.

Oh, and while we're talking about the Middle East nuclear weapons proliferation issue, and the rhino snoring fitfully in the living room,(spoiler alert: Israel's nuclear weapons), can you please explain to my brother and sister Americans why the American tax payers are still paying for weapons and defense for this country, when such action is Constitutionally forbidden by the Symington and Glenn Amendments?!?

Any enlightenment here, Mr. Pompeo?!? Why does Congress choose to break the law, over and over again, by providing funding and weapons for Israel, while homeless Vets sleep rough in our streets; our infrastructure is collapsing in front of us; and we are living in a Thirdworldistan nation, at this point in the history of the Unhinged, Surveilled, State of Amerika.

UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY URGES ISRAEL TO COMPLETELY WITHDRAW FROM GOLAN HEIGHTS

The vote followed US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley's announcement that Washington plans to reject a UN General Assembly resolution on the Golan Heights region given the document's "anti-Israel bias".

A resolution urging Israel to withdraw from the entirety of the Golan Heights has been adopted by the majority of the countries represented in the UN General Assembly (UNGA).

The Syrian Golan resolution was approved by a vote of 99 in favor, 10 against and 66 abstentions during the UNGA's Friday session.

The document declared that Israel's decision to extend its legislation on the Golan Heights is null and void and that the Jewish state should withdraw from the strategically-important territory.

Munzer Munzer, acting charge d’affaires of Syria’s permanent delegation to the UN, accused Israel of continuing to occupy “a precious part of our land” as Syrian people there “continue to suffer because of this occupation.

Netanyahu angling to institute capital punishment for Palestinians just in time for elections

Early Sunday morning five Palestinian citizens in Al-Khader village south of Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank were detained by Israeli Occupying Forces without charges leveled against them, a common enough occurrence in the quiet village which just last month saw 100 athletes sequestered, searched, and interrogated at gunpoint in its soccer stadium after practice. But now, on top of the characteristically violent and indiscriminate means of detaining Palestinians, there may be even more reason besides Israeli contempt for due process to fear for prisoners’ fates.

If Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gets his way, Israel will be able to add among its repertoire of an unwritten constitution and ethnonationalist Basic Laws the right to put Palestinians to death.
