‘Whole world turned red’: Groom recalls deadly Saudi airstrike on Yemeni wedding

Yahya Jaafar said that he was with young guests at his wedding when “the missile came and targeted the room and the rest of the house.” He recalled that he “got thrown out of the building by the power of the explosion,” while “the whole world turned red.”

The man survived the blast, saying: “Thank God, I’m alright. But I don’t hear well because of that.” But most of his guests weren’t that lucky, as “many young people got killed and many wounded,” becoming crippled for life.

“There were some victims who were torn in half,” while splinters injured many others “in belly, head, neck, hands or legs,” the groom recalled. The airstrike caused a complete destruction of the building where the wedding took place, he added.

Bibi baby – Netanyahu: a clown sitting on a huge pile of weapons of mass destruction

"On 30 April Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu provided a fascinating glimpse into a psychotic tribal mind. A clown who sits on a huge pile of weapons of mass destruction, an arsenal of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons designed to kill millions, is crying foul, complaining that another state in the region may attempt to equip itself with similar weapons as a means of deterrence. Netanyahu’s performance looked like a raging toddler pointing to another toddler’s nappy while his own pampers dripped from every direction. " >>

Building For Sale, All Bids Considered: the UN and the Middle East

Founded in San Francisco on October 24, 1945, the United Nations opened with endless promise. As proclaimed in its lofty preamble, the original 51 member states committed themselves to saving

succeeding generations from the scourge of war… [reaffirmed]… faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights… of nation’s large and small… to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from… international law [could] be maintained… to ensure… that armed force [would] not be used, save in the common interest.

With all too comfortable ease, 73 years later, these passionate words of humanity have once again proven themselves to be little more than idle gossip in which the powerful not only craft the tone of the debate but set about to ensure its content reflects their unique and predatory vision of the rule of law.

SOUTH CAROLINA’S NEW HATE SPEECH LAW OUTLAWS CRITICISM OF THE ISRAELI OCCUPATION

The state of South Carolina will become the first state in the nation to legislate a definition of anti-Semitism that considers certain criticisms of the Israeli government to be hate speech. The language, which was inserted into the state’s recently passed $8 billion budget, offers a much more vague definition of anti-Semitism that some suggest specifically targets the presence of the global boycott, divestment and sanctions, or BDS, movement on state college campuses. The law requires that all state institutions, including state universities, apply the revised definition when deciding whether an act violates anti-discrimination policies.

America's Jews Are Driving America's Wars

UPDATE: On the morning of September 21st Phil Giraldi was fired over the phone by The American Conservative, where he had been a regular contributor for fourteen years. He was told that “America’s Jews Are Driving America’s Wars” was unacceptable. The TAC management and board appear to have forgotten that the magazine was launched with an article by founder Pat Buchanan entitled “Whose War?” which largely made the same claims that Giraldi made about the Jewish push for another war, in that case with Iraq. Buchanan was vilified and denounced as an anti-Semite by many of the same people who are now similarly attacking Giraldi.

Israel's Netanyahu Can Now Declare War on Iran With Single Vote

The Israeli parliament voted in favor Monday of granting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the ability to declare war with the sole approval of his defense chief under certain conditions.Following a 20-minute presentation in which Netanyahu accused Iran of covertly pursuing nuclear weapons, reports emerged that the Israeli Knesset approved 62 to 41 the amendment to Israeli law regarding the authorization for the declaration of war. The new regime included a clause suggested by Netanyahu himself, one that requires only Netanyahu and Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman's approval to initiate a war "in extreme situations,"

8 civilians killed in Saudi airstrikes across Yemen in past 24 hours

At least eight civilians, including women and children, have been killed in Saudi Arabia’s multiple airstrikes across war-torn Yemen during the past 24 hours.

Yemen's official Saba news agency, citing a military source, reported on Sunday that seven of the victims were women and children. The airstrikes targeted various areas across Sana’a, Hajjah and Sa’ada provinces. The report added that at least 10 other civilians sustained injuries.

In one of the deadliest air raids against Yemeni people, Saudi warplanes last Sunday hit a wedding ceremony in Hajjah several times, killing almost 50 people and wounding 55 more. Saudi jets also carried out raids on ambulances transporting the casualties to local hospitals.

Stench of hypocrisy: British 'war on terror' & strategic ties with radical Islam

Britain's strategic relationship with radical Islam goes back decades and continues to this day.

There is no more foul a stench than the stench of hypocrisy, and there is no more foul a hypocrisy than the British government painting Bashar al-Assad as a monster when in truth he and the Syrian people have been grappling with a twin-headed monster in the shape of Salafi-jihadi terror and Western imperialism. Both are committed to destroying Syria as an independent, non-sectarian state, and both are inextricably linked.

Arabs won’t fall for Saudi ‘brainwashing’ – Qatari FM rejects call to send troops to Syria

The Qatari foreign minister dismissed a Saudi ultimatum that Qatar must send troops to Syria or face the loss of US support and have its government fall, stating that it “was not worthy of a response.”
The official commented on the remarks of Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Jubeir in an interview with France 24 TV on Thursday.

“This statement [by the Saudi Foreign Ministry] is not worthy of an answer. Qatar refutes the brainwashing of the public opinion in the Arab world in such a way,” Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed Al-Thani said. Riyadh would not be able to manipulate public opinion with such statements since “Arab consciousness is much greater than what they imagine,” he added.

What are Israel’s borders? Does it have any?

And thus, it continued, year after year, resolution after resolution. Israel keeps expanding, the UN condemns and Israel either gets shielded by USA veto, ignores, or fights back with sanctions against those who hold it to task for its violations, as we have recently seen with the UNSC resolution condemning all settlements as a ‘flagrant violation’ of international law. This resolution (UN 2334), is effectively calling it a war crime, and saying that Israel has no legal right to any of the territories conquered in 1967. The whole world effectively supports this, except Israel. Israel tries to portray this as an inherent hostility of the UN, but the UN is made of state representatives. So, Israel is basically saying that the whole world is against it. It is ostensibly against it, because it seeks to halt Israel in its quest to take over the whole of historical Palestine.

The fiasco of the bombing raid on Syria

The Inhibitor!
However, the Russian army observed the shots and transmitted the coordinates of the Allied missiles to the Syrian Arab Army in real time, in order to allow the Syrians to destroy them. Besides this, when the Syrians became swamped by the number of allied missiles, the Russian army deployed its system for inhibiting the commands and controls of NATO, which paralysed most of their launchers.

The most that we know for certain is that a French plane was unable to fire one of its missiles, and was obliged to jettison it out to sea without triggering it [9], and that two French multi-mission frigates suffered a computer failure and were unable to fire their naval Cruise missiles [10] — these are symptoms that are well known by anyone who has had to face up to the Russian inhibitor weapon.

Gold Leaving US Vaults: Signs of Upcoming Currency War and Armed Conflict

An armed conflict with Iran might be much closer than generally believed. The nuclear deal has been honored, to everyone’s satisfaction but to Washington’s chagrin. Iran undoubtedly has no military capability that would be a threat to the US. It has never been responsible for any terrorist acts committed abroad or things like that. But it has done something unforgivable in the eyes of the US. It has threatened the USD. That’s what Washington cannot accept, because if it does not support the dollar, there will be problems financing the US government’s huge federal debt. A war with Iran would eliminate the largest non-USD oil exporter. One thing leads to another. The gold repatriations are a precursor to a currency war and armed conflict. That’s what drives US foreign policy.

Yemen vows ‘crushing response’ to top Houthi official murder

Yemen’s Defense Ministry has vowed a “crushing response” to the assassination of a senior official from the Houthi Ansarullah movement, saying Saudi Arabia and the US will regret their “criminal adventurism.”

In a statement carried by the official Saba news agency on Monday, the ministry stressed that the Yemeni armed forces reserve the right to deal severe blows to “the aggressors and their evil coalition,” who will not be safe from ballistic missiles.

Saleh al-Samad, the chairman of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council, lost his life in Saudi airstrikes that targeted his residence in the Red Sea port city of Hudaydah on Thursday.

The council was formed by the Houthi movement and the General People’s Congress Party to run state affairs in the absence of an effective government in 2016, a year after the Saudi regime and a coalition of its allies began their US-backed war against the country.

Qatar govt. must send troops to Syria or lose US support and be toppled – Saudi FM

Riyadh appears to be trying to bully regional rival and fellow US ally Qatar into going to war in Syria, with the Saudi foreign minister citing the US leader's call for "wealthy" nations to stump up and send boots to the ground.
In his interpretation of US President Donald Trump's appeal to the affluent states in the region, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Jubeir issued a thinly veiled threat to Doha, arguing the Qatari government will not last a week after the US cuts off its military support.

Qatar must "send its military forces (to Syria), before the US president cancels US protection of Qatar, which consists of the presence of a US military base on its territory," Jubeir said on Wednesday, as cited by the ministry's media center.

Should the US withdraw some 10,000 servicemen currently stationed at Al-Udeid air base near Doha, the government "would fall there in less than a week," Jubeir argued.

Hybrid War In Reverse: Why The SDF Can’t Hold The Euphrates

With regard to this Middle East war which was waged for 7 years, we are finally near the end of it all. The border with Lebanon is sealed, the border with Iraq is established and Damascus-Tehran communication is up and running across Abu Kamal, just like small trade is too. ISIS, the last big obstacle for the New Middle East is practically crushed and exists only in small parts in the Syrian desert like a mobile force, and across the Euphrates river east from the SDF-American forces. This hybrid war, with multiple and difficult to distinguish sides against the Syrian state, is practically over and isolated now only to Idlib and part of Dara province with no perspective for the future. NATO’s humiliation with its failed cruise missiles strikes proved that NATO is incapable to win any war without full air supremacy. So what is left? The only option is prolonging the war, forcing Damascus to liberate all the territory at a cost and not in a quick manner.

Saudi Warplanes Attack Wedding Party in NW Yemen, Killing Dozens

Saudi warplanes carried out an overnight attack against a wedding party in the Yemeni town of Hajjah. Two missiles struck the site, and killed many civilians. Medics initially reported 33 were killed and scores wounded. Other officials put the figure as high as 50 slain.

The civilians were mostly women and children, who were in a tent set up for the wedding party. The bride was also killed in the strike, and the groom was among the wounded. Initial reports called the strike a US-Saudi action, but it was later confirmed to be of Saudi origin.

Saudi coalition spokesman Col. Turki al-Maliki was quoted by CNN as saying that there is an investigation into the attack. They refused to comment further until the investigation has been completed. No other officials offered any indication why the wedding was attacked.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Saudis, guided by their B.O.Y. (AKA, the Butcher of Yemen, Prince Mohammed bin Salman), are magnificently adept at genocide, and slaughter of the innocent in Yemen.

And of course, under our current, and very uniquely American "Dear Leader", with his very own Personality Cult, President Trump, we are aiding and abbetting Saudi war crimes in Yemen.

I don't know about the rest of those who read this blog, but I am sick, tired, and profoundly morally uncomfortable, being a citizen of a country which indulges in war crimes around the world, as we are.

But there are very few more glaring examples of such war crimes, than the US/Saudi genocide of Yemen.

For quite some time the British have accepted that British-Jewish organisations have hijacked the political discourse. An alleged “Russian nerve agent attack” provided a 48-hour pause. Occasionally we bomb Arabs in the name of “humanitarian intervention” only to realise a day or two later that we have, once again, followed a premeditated foreign agenda. 19 OIL TANKERS HELD HOSTAGE OFF YEMENI COAST

The Yemeni Houthis have captured 19 oil tankers and are keeping them from entering the Hodeidah port, according to reports from Saudi media quoting the Kingdom’s ambassador in Yemen.

The ambassador suggested three possible reasons for the detention, including an attempt to extract money from the owners of the vessels, “the continued starvation of the Yemeni people”, and a plan to destroy the tankers, causing major environmental damage to the Red Sea.

However, the only media sources reporting the tanker seizure are Saudi sources and there has been no confirmation from an external source that the Houthis have indeed seized any tankers yet. No details have been disclosed as to the origin of the vessels, either.

Yemen lies along one of the main global oil chokepoints in the Red Sea. Millions of barrels of crude oil pass Yemeni shores from the Suez Canal en route to Europe every day.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A short memo to the government of Saudi Arabia, and the B.O.Y. (AKA, the butcher of Yemen, Prince Mohammed bin Salman); the only way to resolve this is with a political solution.

There has been a hubristical arrogance in this military operation in Yemen, aided and abetted by the United States Military, the foundation of which was the belief that you could, through intense genocide, grind the Yemeni people into submission; it has not worked at all.

I would like to politely suggest another way to tackle the problem through diplomacy, if such a thing possibly exists in your country.

You have gassed, starved, and in discriminately slaughtered infants; children; women; and the medically fragile elderly. You have destroyed schools and hospitals with impunity, all to no avail on the ground in Yemen.

Perhaps some other modality might work better now; because all you have accomplished is getting the Houthi rebels so angry at this genocide, that they are willing to do anything...to get the Saudi presence out of their country.

SAUDI ARABIA PAYS $40M TO THE PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY

The Saudi Development Fund has paid $40m to the Palestinian Authority (PA) ministry of finance in support of the PA budget, the Saudi newspaper Okaz reported yesterday.

Saudi Arabia pays $20m monthly to the PA budget.

The Kingdom’s representative to the Arab League reiterated that his country would continuously support the Palestinian cause on a political, economic and humanitarian basis.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Foreign Policies of Saudi Arabia appear to be schizophrenic in the extreme; on the one hand, they are propping up the PA, and on the other, they are creating a genocide in Yemen, in a situation where most experts I read indicate that the only solution in Yemen has to be a political reconciliation.

Washington Using Currency War To Destabilize Iran

The neoconservative hawks around the US President, notably new National Security head John Bolton and designated Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, are on record that Iran is in Washington’s sights for regime change or at a minimum, economic sanctions and chaos. The rhetoric is not empty. The ground is being laid by US threats to not renew the Iran nuclear agreement in May, a move opposed by the other signatories and a move that would plunge Iran into a deep economic crisis at a time it can ill afford.
The orchestration of the US-led bombing of Syria, regardless of what targets were or were not hit, now sets the propaganda stage for a dramatic escalation of new sanctions against Iran, and for a major destabilization, something not possible in 2009.

What is taking shape now from the side of Washington is preparation to unleash a new wave of economic and financial sanctions on Iran, regardless.

US-BACKED COALITION BOMBS WEDDING PARTY IN YEMEN, KILLING DOZENS

Weeks after President Donald Trump thanked Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince for his country’s use of U.S. military power, the U.S.-backed coalition bombed a wedding party in Yemen, killing at least 20 civilians including the bride. The number of casualties is expected to rise.

On social media, journalist Glenn Greenwald reminded readers of the U.S. connection to Saudi Arabia’s assault on the impoverished country, which has led to what the U.N. has called “the worst man-made humanitarian crisis of our time”—and which would not be possible without U.S. support.

In Yemen today, the Saudis bombed a wedding, killing at least 20 people, including the bride. They killed "mostly women and children." The US & UK - who some believe do humanitarian interventions - both play vital roles in the Saudi destruction of Yemen https://t.co/496jXAigq7

Saudi-led Airstrikes Kill at Least 20 at Yemen Wedding

Airstrikes by a Saudi-led military coalition killed at least 20 people attending a wedding in a village in northwestern Yemen late on Sunday, residents and medical sources said.

Here’s Why Gas Prices Are Skyrocketing Right Now

Global economy and geopolitics are underpinning the oil price surge and gas prices are going up.

Who recalls the oil embargo of 1973?  That was when the Arab-dominated Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) announced they were cutting oil exports to the United States and other countries that provided military aid to Israel during the Yom Kippur War of October 1973.

In six months’ time, gas prices had quadrupled.  Prices remained higher even after the embargo ended in March 1974.

But that could never happen again…Or could it?

Yemeni forces target airport on Saudi soil with ballistic missile

Yemeni forces have targeted an airport in Saudi Arabia with a domestically-manufactured ballistic missile.

According to Yemen’s Arabic-language al-Masirah television network on Wednesday, the missile was launched at Jizan region's airport.

The attack came several hours after Yemeni forces targeted a power plant in the kingdom's Najran region.

According to a Yemeni military source, the missile successfully hit its target.

Earlier in the day, Yemeni forces targeted a Saudi mercenary camp in Najran with rocket and artillery fire, killing and wounding a large number of its occupants.

ISRAEL CRAVES A BIG WAR (BUT BY OTHER'S HANDS)

It is important to understand the initial positions of each player in the Syrian crisis. If we talk about the monarchies of the Persian Gulf, they were originally set up to destroy the existing authorities. When the sharp crisis in Syria began, Saudi Arabia and a number of other countries in the Persian Gulf took it as the beginning of exactly the same process of liquidation of the regime as it was in Iraq and Libya. They relatively quickly moved away from the support of the legitimate authorities led by President Assad and began to look for alternative forces that were torn to power. They began to provide these forces with the appropriate support - financial, economic, logistical - and even supplied them with weapons.

Trump’s Disastrous Syria Attack

President Trump celebrated firing more than 100 missiles into Syria by Tweeting, "Mission Accomplished!" ... There is much about the US attack on Syria that reminds us of Iraq ... Where is Congress? It was disgraceful to see Speaker Paul Ryan telling the President he needs no Congressional authorization to attack Syria. All Members of Congress take an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution, and the Constitution says that only Congress can declare war. Does that oath mean nothing these days? President Trump will come to regret the day he let the neocons take over his foreign policy. Their track record is abysmal. His attack on Syria was clearly illegal, and should his party lose the House in November he may find his new fair-weather friends in the Democratic Party quickly turning foul.

Saudi, UAE recruiting 1000s of African mercenaries: Report

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are reportedly recruiting thousands of African mercenaries to serve in their military adventurism overseas, including the bloody war on Yemen.

Saudi sources told the al-Quds al-Arabi newspaper that the kingdom is likely using Chadian mercenaries in its operations abroad.

They said the speculation had gained more credence after Chad’s President Idriss Déby traveled to Saudi Arabia earlier in the month to observe the Joint [Persian] Gulf Shield-1 military drills in the eastern Saudi city of Jubail.

The kingdom has signed secret agreements with N’Djamena, enabling its enlistment of thousands of Chadian mercenaries, according to the sources.

Donald Trump asks SAUDI ARABIA and others to establish 'Arab ARMY' to replace US in Syria

DONALD Trump is looking to end US engagement in Syria by forming an Arab military force to replace the US presence in the region and to help stabilise the north-eastern part of the country following the defeat of so-called Islamic State, it has been reported.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If ISIS is kicked out of Syria, why does there need to be any army at all inside Syria, other than Syria's?

FLASHBACK - Trump strikes arms deal with Saudis worth $350bn, $110bn to take effect immediately

In his first overseas trip as president, Donald Trump sealed an arms deal with Saudi Arabia worth $350 billion over 10 years, with nearly $110 billion to take effect immediately. The agreement is said to bolster security “in the face of Iranian threats.”

"This package of defense equipment and services supports the long-term security of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region in the face of malign Iranian influence and Iranian related threats. Additionally, it bolsters the Kingdom's ability to provide for its own security and continue contributing to counterterrorism operations across the region, reducing the burden on US military forces," the US Department of State said in a statement on Saturday.

FLASHBACK - 3yrs of civilian deaths in Yemen don’t hold US & allies back from selling arms to Saudis – Amnesty

Hundreds of Yemenis have become victims of reckless arms sales by the US and its allies to Saudi Arabia, whose coalition has indiscriminately used Western weapons in its 3-year bombing campaign, Amnesty International has warned.

The rights group has analyzed numerous instances in which Yemeni civilians, including women and children, were killed or injured by the Saudi-led coalition’s aircraft. In all known cases, US-made ammunition has been used against civilian targets, which potentially amounted to war crimes, the NGO advised.

“There is extensive evidence that irresponsible arms flows to the Saudi Arabia-led coalition have resulted in enormous harm to Yemeni civilians,” said Lynn Maalouf, Amnesty International’s Director of Research for the Middle East. This, she posited, “has not deterred the USA, the UK and other states, including France, Spain and Italy, from continuing transfers of billions of dollars’ worth of such arms.”

Activist Explains How French Weapons End up in Saudi Hands Warring in Yemen

Yemeni human rights activists have charged Mohammad bin Salman, accusing him of aiding in “acts of torture” during the campaign in Yemen. Paris is being put under pressure, due to the fact that French weaponry is used in the conflict by the coalition. Tony Fortin, member of the board of the Observatory for Arms told Sputnik how this happened.

Fortin said that one of the most controversial deals is the selling of French arms on the DONAS contract. According to it, Saudi Arabia paid for weapons that must have been delivered to Lebanon.

Saudi Arabia Claims Iran ‘Is Dangerous’ At Arab League Meeting

Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz opened the 29th Arab League Summit in the city of Dhahran on Sunday, where representatives from 22 countries are meeting to discuss political, economic and social developments in the region.

In his opening speech, King Salman criticized Iranian influence on Arab countries, saying that it violates ‘the principles of international law and the values of good neighborliness.’

He also called on the international community to take ‘a firm and a strong position’ against Tehran’s ‘dangerous behavior.’ Saudi Arabia and Iran are engaged in a cold war across the region where they back opposing sides in Lebanon, Syria and Yemen. Iran not only blocks Saudi hegemony over the region, it also says it is engaged in an anti-imperialist struggle in the Middle East and that Saudi Arabia is subservient to the American Empire.

Force And More Force – Then What?

Is there no other doctrine than the doctrine of force that’s being used by the government here? What about the doctrine of common interest, for example? Or the doctrine of negotiation, rather than confrontation? After the October 1973 war, a department was set up in Military Intelligence called Ipkha Mistabra (Aramaic for “on the contrary”), whose job was to put forward and explore ideas and directions that contradicted widely held assumptions.

Where is the Jewish mind that’s supposed to be so smart and creative? Does it only work in minor matters, while on fateful ones it is paralyzed by fear of the messianic right? For example, why not just talk to Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas? But the leadership here is stuck on the doctrine of force. If it doesn’t want to talk to Mahmoud Abbas, it it going to talk with Hamas’ Ismail Haniyeh?

In March 2003, Pat Buchanan wrote a groundbreaking article entitled “Whose War?” in opposition to the Bush Administration fueled growing hysteria over Saddam Hussein’s alleged weapons of mass destruction which was producing demands for an armed intervention to disarm him. Buchanan rightly identified a number of prominent Jewish officials and journalists closely tied to the Israel Lobby as the principal driving force behind the rush to go to war.

Western Military Debacle in Eastern Ghouta

You won’t be hearing any of this in the western news media because the U.S./UK definitely want to keep the lid on this report. Compiled by Chinese intelligence analysts and explained below by Evgeniy Satanovskiy, one of Russia’s leading Middle East experts, it throws a new light on the situation in Syria and, indirectly, the Skripals poisoning too.
According to the Chinese analysts hundreds of U.S. Special Forces and advisors were killed or wounded in East Ghouta during the recent Syrian Arab Army assault. On March 17 alone Chinese analysts estimate that as many as 200 U.S. Special Forces personnel were “eliminated”.

The Neocons’ Real Plan for Syria Emerges from the Lack of Rubble

I told you over the weekend that Trump’s presidency was over. As a practical matter it is. His yielding to his ‘advisors’ on every foreign policy issue makes it clear that he can’t or won’t stand up to the relentless pressure to do what his instincts tell him.

This morning’s article at the Deep State Washington Post paints a very clear picture of what the situation is. The advisors whose loyalties are dubious run the show. Their thinking has not evolved one whit from previous administrations.

Remember what Russian President Vladimir Putin always says, “Presidents change. Policies do not.”

Netanyahu uses Holocaust event to urge action against Syria, Iran

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu used a speech at Israel's annual Holocaust commemorations on Wednesday [April 11] to call for action against Syria following a suspected poison gas attack. The United States has threatened air strikes against Syria over the use of chemical weapons that Syria and its ally Russia deny ... Netanyahu also invoked the lessons of World War Two and the Holocaust to call for action against Iran, criticising the nuclear deal Tehran signed with six world powers. "The lack of willingness among the powers of the West to stand firm in the face of the tyrannical regime, their lack of willingness to pay the price of stopping aggression at an early stage, led to humanity paying a much greater price later on," he said.

How on earth would killing MORE people rescue Syria

Why do so many people in politics and the media want to start wars? ... Any fool can kill a man in a second and ruin a city in a week. But it takes long years of nurture to raise a child to adulthood, and centuries to build a civilisation. Yet I look around me and see the mouths of intelligent people opened wide, yelling for an attack on Syria, when the only certain outcome of that will be blood and screams and ruins, and the deaths of innocents in 'collateral damage'. What good will this do? ... Perhaps worse, by creating an unending river of migrants through the Middle East and the Mediterranean, I suspect they have ruined Europe for good ... When Saddam Hussein was our ally against Iran back in 1988, he undoubtedly used poison gas against Kurds in Halabja. And in September 1988 the Foreign Office declined to get outraged ...
