2018-2028: The Most Dangerous Decade

By Chris Kanthan

Every 80 years, nations often experience colossal events. There are different theories about this cycle – for example, the Fourth Turning theory focuses on the cyclical strengths of institutions versus individuals. Others surmise that four generations after a major crisis, there are no more older people to warn the society, and the younger people take peace and prosperity for granted.

Well, exactly 80 years ago, America was mired in the Great Depression, and World War II was about to begin. Yet, predictably, most Americans and Europeans now cannot even fathom such scenarios repeating in their lifetime.

There are two major catalysts that can ignite catastrophic wars in the next decade...

New Satellite Imagery Shows Shocking Yemen Devastation As Saudi Crown Prince Tours US

Saudi Arabia and other oil rich Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) allied states like the UAE have long managed to escape the scrutiny of media and international human rights bodies thanks to their deep pockets and security relationship with the West. Their collective oil, weapons, and infrastructure investment interdependency with Britain and the US have generally translated into Western governments, media, and human rights organizations toeing the party line on the gulf sheikhdoms, content to (with a few sporadic exceptions) uncritically present them as some kind of “reform-minded” terror-fighting benevolent monarchies looking out for democratic interests and championing human rights.

US Admits ‘Doing the Planning’ for Saudi Strikes in Yemen

In a new meeting with reporters, Defense Secretary James Mattis has offered new details about US involvement in the Saudi invasion of Yemen, providing specifics about what the US is doing that contradict long-standing claims of a very limited, non-combat involvement.

Mattis now admits the US is “doing the planning” in Yemen strikes, and has shown the Saudis how the concept of a no-strike zone is supposed to work, and engaged in a maturing process of “battlefield management” intended to see Saudi strikes killing fewer civilians.

Mattis also tried to spin the already established US involvement in mid-air refueling as beneficial for civilians being bombed. He warned Saudi bombers would make “rash or hasty decisions” if they had to worry about running out of fuel before bombing a place, and might take less time to avoid hitting civilian targets.

Patriot Missiles Are Made in America and Fail Everywhere

I talked to a fellow who worked at White Sands years ago about the Patriot. He called it the best 1950's tech that money could buy!

The point is there is no evidence that Saudi Arabia has intercepted any Houthi missiles during the Yemen conflict. And that raises a disquieting thought: Is there any reason to think the Patriot system even works?

Enabling War Crimes: Mattis Admits US Planning Saudi Airstrikes in Yemen

US Defense Secretary James Mattis has just offered new details about US involvement in the Saudi invasion of Yemen, providing specifics about what the US is doing that contradict long-standing claims of a very limited, non-combat involvement.
Mattis now admits the US is “doing the planning in Yemen strikes, and has shown the Saudis how the concept of a no-strike zone is supposed to work, and engaged in a maturing process of battlefield management” intended to see Saudi strikes killing limited civilians. Mattis has also tried to spin the already established US involvement in mid-air refueling as beneficial for civilians being bombed!

Obviously all this means the US has been enabling Saudi war crimes in Yemen from day one, as US-backed Saudi airstrikes are still killing a shocking number of innocent bystanders, and the comments made by Mattis, some half-hearted attempts, cannot spin that criminal involvement:

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump, SecDef Mattis, and The BOY (The Butcher of Yemen), AKA Prince Mohammed Bin Salman), can possibly put lipstick on this pig of a war, and the war crimes in which the US military and government have been thoroughly involved with utter impunity.

I wish Mike and I were younger, and had the money to immigrate to a civilized country which doesn't do this kind of thing, we would do it tomorrow; unfortunately, and 65 and 68 respectively, and broke, I seriously doubt that there is a country which would accept us as immigrants right now.

The country of my birth has become, at the highest level of its society, happy and complacent with war criminals and war mongers at its helm.

I am absolutely not!!

“Cold War”! Dangerous Squadrons Of Russian And American Fighters Near Cyprus

ATHENS, Greece – In large parts of eastern and southern Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, air flights of Russia and the United States have expanded over the past few days, with a significant number of two-engined fighter aircraft, always related to developments in the region, especially Syria. Two airplanes, the Russian east of Cyprus and the American south of Cyprus, a Su-33 and MiG -29K, have been hovering around the skies of Cyprus. The flights of the Russian fighters east and southeast of Cyprus have increased considerably lately. At the same time, the number of American fighters F / A-18F is taking off and flying near Nicosia is increasing, from an American aircraft carrier that had been south of Cyprus in recent weeks and has now moved eastward. In some cases, it is in a relatively close area and at the same height; there are also American and Russian fighters, which means that at about the same area and at similar altitudes, at the same time, up to 15-18 fighter planes fly.

Why 55 U.S. Senators Voted for Genocide in Yemen

I use the phrase “end a war,” despite the fact that Saudi Arabia could continue its war without U.S. participation — in part, because it’s easier, and in part because experts have suggested that Saudi Arabia could not do anything like what it is doing without the participation of the U.S. military in identifying targets and refueling planes. It is of course also true that were the United States to go beyond what was under consideration on Tuesday and cease providing Saudi Arabia with planes and bombs, and use its influence as an oil customer and general war partner to pressure Saudi Arabia to end the war and lift the blockade, the war might end entirely. And millions of human lives might be spared.

So, a vote against one war is never just a vote against one war. It’s a vote to challenge, if ever so slightly, the power of the war machine. These Senators are paid not to do that.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US Congress no longer represents the will and concerns of We the People; it only represents those corporations who have bought and paid for their support: that is the big, fat, ugly, hairy open secret of American politics in this day and time.

U.S. Officials Demand Al Jazeera Register as Propaganda ‘Agent’

A bipartisan group of lawmakers has called for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to investigate whether Al Jazeera, the news outlet connected to the Qatari government, should register with the Justice Department as an agent under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). This will have broad implications for the First Amendment, our access to dissenting opinions, and even how the rest of the world views us.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This attempt to muzzle Al Jazeera, for having had the "male attributes" to look seriously at AIPAC, and it's strangle hold over US foreign policy, smells to high heaven.

It is bloody well time for Americans to see precisely what Israel and AIPAC has cost this country, in blood and money spent, and how much it intends to cost this country, in terms of future wars it is cheerleading the American government to greenlight.

Saudi Arabia Threatens Iran, Blaming Them for Yemeni Missiles

With Saudi airstrikes pounding northern Yemen, killing civilians left and right, their options for “retaliating” against Yemen for firing missiles into Saudi territory are limited. Saudi officials aren’t concerned, however, as they’re threatening to attack Iran over he missiles instead.

Saudi officials reported seven Yemeni missiles intercepted overnight, with debris from one of the missiles hitting a house and killing an Egyptian laborer. Saudi officials claim the missiles came from Iran, and that they have a “right” to respond militarily against Iran in the future.

The Shi’ite Houthis, who control northern Yemen, deny close ties to Iran, and have insisted in the past that missiles fired at Saudi Arabia are part of Yemen’s pre-war stockpile, and retaliation for Saudi airstrikes. Though the Saudis targeted some missile caches early in the invasion of Yemen, some missiles are known to have survived, and have been fired during the fighting.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is completely insane, as the Saudi military cannot believe for a moment that they could last against Iran militarily, should they decide on a direct hit against it.

And one of the phone calls The BOY (Butcher of Yemen, AKA Prince Mohammed Bin Salman) needs to make before he decides to attack Iran, is very much to Russia's President Putin, to see if he can get him on the same page here, regarding his need to haul off against Iran.

I would doubt that the response to such a threat against Iran is going to be very warm and fuzzy, on Putin's part.

Without this, Russia may well look at a Saudi attack against Iran to be an attack against Russia, as Russian politicians and military personnel have consistently stated that should Iran be attacked militarily, it will come to Iran's aid.

The Mysterious Frank Taylor Report: The 9/11 Document that Launched US-NATO’s “War on Terrorism” in the Middle East

We call them ‘the 9/11 wars’ – the seemingly unending destruction of the Middle East and North Africa which has been going on for the last seventeen years. As revealed by Gen. Wesley Clark,[1] these wars were already anticipated in September 2001.

The legal foundation for the invasion of Iraq in 2003 has been challenged in several countries. The best known is the Chilcot Inquiry in the UK, which began in 2009 and concluded in a report in 2016. The inquiry was not about the legality of military action, but the British government was strongly criticised for not having provided a legal basis for the attack.

Even though the invasion of Iraq was planned[2] prior to 9/11, most observers note that the attack on Afghanistan in 2001 was a required precursor.

However, the legal basis for attacking Afghanistan has attracted almost no attention. One obstacle in addressing this has been the assumption that the key document was still classified.[3][4]

Neocon Takeover of Washington Completed

Pompeo at State and Bolton as Trump’s national security advisor completed the neocon takeover of Trump’s geopolitical agenda – Wall Street running domestic affairs.

The combination represents a major setback for world peace and stability, greater aggression likely, along with the triumph of neoliberal harshness over social justice – a dismal and frightening state of affairs.

What to expect ahead? War in Syria is more likely to escalate than wind down, an unthinkable US/Russia confrontation ominously possible.

The Iran nuclear deal is either doomed, or likely to be gutted by Washington, accomplishing the same thing – with only tepid, ineffective opposition from P5+1 countries Britain, France and Germany.

The EU most often bends to US will when enough pressure is applied.

A relatively quiet Ukraine period could explode in greater Kiev war on Donbass, US-supplied heavy weapons and training aiding its aggression.

Webmaster's Commentary:

At this defining moment in world history, I despair about the current trajectory of both domestic, and foreign policies, creating more income inequality at home, and more wars abroad.

And the worst thing about these coming wars is, that they may not be wars the US military is able to win, or from which it can extricate itself gracefully.

You can nearly bet on a return to the draft, which will be coming for both our young men and young women, but of course, not in an election ior mid-term election year.

Illegal Wars: The New American Way

The U.S. military stands astride the Greater Mideast region on behalf of an increasingly rogue-like regime in Washington, D.C. Worse still, this isn’t a Donald Trump problem, per se. No, three successive administrations – Democratic and Republican – have widened the scope of a global “war” on a tactic (terror), on the basis of two at best vague, and at worst extralegal, congressional authorizations for the use of force (AUMF). Indeed, the US is veritably addicted to waging undeclared, unwinnable wars with unconvincing legal sanction.

John Bolton supports proactively bombing Iran and conducting a first strike on North Korea without provocation. Appointing him to be Nat Sec Advisor is a grave danger to the American people and a clear message from @realDonaldTrump that he is gearing up for military conflict.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This appointment of Bolton as President Trump's National Security Advisor, an appointment over which Congress has absolutely zero oversight, is officially horrible, and does not augur well for any kind of peace in the Middle East.

In fact, this appointment almost guarantees a war against Iran, which will almost inevitably mean war with Russia.

President Trump has morphed from the non-interventionist on the campaign trail to an avid supporter of war, as the only way in which the Unhinged Surveilled State of America can ever acheive its geopolitical goals.

The only reason we are looking at potential peace talks between the US and North Korea is that when Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu visited Washington for AIPAC earlier this month, he gave President Trump his marching orders, which were: "Forget about North Korea; regime change Tehran for me!!"

One has to wonder just what, precisely, Netanyahu has on President Trump, to make him so willing to sacrifice so much potential blood and money toward the achievement of this goal.

But like that architypical dream about a slo-mo train wreck, I can see this war coming, and soon.

I am bitterly disappointed with him for this, and think that, once again, the American people had utterly zero choice in the last election in 2016; it was warmonger vs/warmonger, both completely vetted, and blessed, by the Israeli political establishment, as their supreme candidates of choice, and the US military/industrial complex, as demonstrated by the passage of the omnibus spending bill yesterday.

Yemenis fire missile at Saudi oil giant Aramco's HQ in Najran

Yemeni forces have fired a ballistic missile at the Saudi state oil giant Aramco's headquarters in the Persian Gulf country's southwest in retaliation for Riyadh’s fatal campaign against Yemen.

Yemen's Arabic-language al-Masirah television network reported that the Badr 1 short-range ballistic missile was fired at Aramco's premises in Saudi Arabia’s southwestern province of Najran on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Yemeni air defense forces backed by fighters from allied Popular Committees reportedly intercepted and shot down an F-15 fighter jet belonging to the Royal Saudi Air Force as it was flying in the skies over the northwestern Yemeni province of Sa’ada.

The attacks come in retaliation for the Saudi relentless airstrikes that claimed the lives of thousands of civilians in the impoverished country.

Trump administration approves $1B arms sale to Saudi Arabia, including more than 6,500 missiles

The White House told Congress Thursday that it plans to approve a $1 billion arms sale to Saudi Arabia, a package that includes about 6,700 U.S.-built anti-tank missiles.

The sale also includes support, maintenance and spare parts for American tanks, helicopters and other equipment already in Saudi Arabia's arsenal. Lawmakers have 30 days to act if they want to try and stop the deal.

The announcement came two days after Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met with President Trump as the royal started a three-week tour of the U.S.

Earlier Thursday, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis told the prince that Saudi Arabia was "part of the solution" in Yemen, where the Saudis are leading a U.S.-backed military campaign against Houthi rebels that has been heavily criticized for inflicting civilian casualties.

US Support for Brutal Saudi Campaign in Yemen Serves Desire to Oppose Iran

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman is in Washington this week to visit the White House and will undoubtedly be pleased to learn that the US Senate just killed a bill to terminate Washington’s military support for Saudi warplanes conducting bombing and missile raids in Yemen.

A bipartisan group of senators recently sought to limit the president's power to deploy military forces in unauthorized places, effectively allowing Congress to withdraw troops from a conflict like the Yemeni Civil War, which the United Nations has said has created the world's most severe humanitarian crisis in 50 years.

The Red Sea 2015 “Secret Yacht Summit” that Realigned the Middle East

George Nader, the Lebanese-American businessman, who is co-operating with special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Donald Trump’s campaign funding, organised a secret summit of Arab leaders on a yacht in the Red Sea in late 2015, Middle East Eye can reveal.

Nader proposed to the leaders gathered on the yacht that they should set up an elite regional group of six countries, which would supplant both the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the moribund Arab League.

Nader said this group of states could become a force in the region “that the US government could depend on” to counter the influence of Turkey and Iran, according to two sources briefed on the meeting.

Report: Trump asked Saudi king $4bn for Syria goals

US President Donald Trump asked Saudi King Salman for $4 billion to spend on advancing Washington’s objectives in Syria, which Riyadh also shares, a report says.

US military newspaper Stars and Stripes carried the report on Friday, saying the demand was made by the US chief executive during a phone call with the Saudi monarch last December.

The money, it said, would be spent towards preventing the empowerment of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Syria’s allies, Iran and Russia. Washington would further the goal as far as bringing about “a political settlement of the war that ultimately includes the exit of both Assad and Iran,” it added.

It cited hawkish US Senator Lindsey Graham as reminding Gen. Joseph Votel, head of US Central Command earlier in the week of “the negative long-term impact that a win for Iran, Russia and Assad would have on US allies such as Israel and Jordan.”

Neocon Specter of John Bolton Looms Over Trump White House

Bolton’s tenure at the U.N. was punctuated by his own undiplomatic outbursts, as well as those of his spokesman, Richard Grenell, Trump’s nominee to be US ambassador to Germany. Bolton strenuously pushed the neocon foreign policy line, as spelled out in the charter for the movement founded in 1997, the Project for the New American Century (PNAC).

Saudis in Secret Peace Talks With Yemen’s Houthis

Publicly, Saudi Arabia has shown no sign of looking for a negotiated end to the war in Yemen. Behind the scenes, however, they’ve been in secret talks with the Shi’ite Houthis for the past two months.

Three years into the Saudi invasion, signs are that there is some war weariness, and that they’ve been making secretive approaches to the Houthis, by way of neighboring Oman, for the past two months. Diplomats say the Houthis are eager for a diplomatic agreement.

One senior Houthi confirmed that the talks have been underway, with spokesman Mohammed Abdul-Salam repeatedly traveling to Oman for meetings with Saudi officials, and trying to carve out a “comprehensive political solution.”

GOP Leaders Want to Delay Yemen War Powers Vote

Expectations are that the Senate War Powers vote on the Yemen War, SJ Res 54, will come up for debate and a vote next week. That may not happen if the Republican leadership gets its way, however, as many are opposed to the bill, and are trying to stall a vote.

Some leaders are arguing the issue is too “divisive,” and that the matter should be sent back to a committee for closer study. Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN), by contrast, endorsed the Pentagon’s argument, saying the US does so much military engagement around the world that it would be dangerous to think the War Powers Act could apply to all of it.

But of course the whole point of the War Powers Act is that it does apply to any commitment of US forces overseas. It’s just that in recent years, presidents have relied on catch-all authorizations with vague limits to join some wars, and other times simply assumed Congress wouldn’t mind, as they generally have not minded.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The reality of this situation is, having armed, and provided guidance and mid-air refueling to the Saudi military, the US government has colluded in Saudi war crimes in Yemen:

There is nothing "divisive" about this; it is as real a statement of fact as are all the other horrible facts about this sordid military campaign in Yemen, 3 years on, and with no resolution in sight:

Saudi coalition killed hundreds of children in Yemen, confidential UN report claims

Because Yemen cannot grow its own food, and it has to be imported, the Saudis, with US military assistance, have blockaded the ports, meaning that malnutrition is causing death, and a massive health crisis for the country.

Cholera (perhaps weaponised?!?) and diptheria now haunt Yemen:
Images: Yemen malnutrition has generated a cholera crisis

The skyrocketing increase in massive fetal abnormalites, cancers and stillbirths in Yemen indicate that the Saudis have used depleted uranium, with the predictable results on Yemen's children:

Image: Yemeni child exposed to du in the womb (image courtesy of RUPTLY

In my world, the poisoning of a child in the womb with this atrocious weapon, is criminal and inhuman beyond belief. And what gets me, is that the man who ordered this campaign, is not at all an uneducated man; Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, is very bright, university educated, has a law degree, and wound up 2nd in his class.

But could his hatred of the Iranian Shiias, who are acting as advisors to the Houthi rebels, be so great as to compel him to order the death, by direct military assaults; starvation, and disease, of non-combatants, and Yemen's children?!?

Sadly, the short answer here is "Yes"; and as a Christian pacifist activist, I will have to continue to bear witness to these atrocities on this site as long as I have breath.

When you destroy the children of a country, you destroy that country's future.

History will not be kind to this man; I understand that he is known by many honorifics in Saudi Arabia, because he is Saudi royalty.

History, however, will remember him as the Butcher of Yemen.

Senator Corker, the US government has to stop this madness; as you are perfectly aware, according to our Constitution, only Congress can declare war. It has not done so in Yemen.

I don't know what your portfolio holds in terms of weapons stocks, but I do know approximately, your net worth: Google has scrubbed the articles on this, but there are always other places to go to find such facts:

Senator Corker Undervalued his Wealth by Millions The story, from 2015, stated the following:

And Senator Schatz, whose office I called last week, to encourage you to vote for this bill, you, sir, owe me a return phone call!

Or have your alleged constituents with a point of view on this war different from that of your own, become....expendable and irrelevant in the State of Hawaii?!?

Just checking, sir.

Why Are NATO Air Forces Moving From Turkey to Jordan?

People in the Middle East are joking cynically:

“From Incirlik, Turkey to Al-Azraq, Jordan with love.”

That is, if they pay any attention to the movement of NATO troops in this part of the world.

They should.

At least one substantial part of an incredibly deadly and aggressive force has been gradually relocated, from an ‘uncertain’ and according to the West suddenly ‘unreliable’ country (Turkey), to the impoverished but obedient Kingdom of Jordan.

It is now clear that NATO is not sure, metaphorically speaking, which direction is Turkey going to fly in, and where it may eventually land. It is panicking and searching, ‘just in case’, for an exit strategy; almost for an escape plan from the most important regional power.

Is the West really losing Turkey? Nobody knows. Most likely, nobody in Ankara is sure, either, including Mr. Erdogan.

Breaking: Syrian Army enters East Ghouta suburb for first time in years

This is why Niki Haley has gone frantic.

BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:30 A.M.) – For the first time in years, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has entered the Al-Hamouriyah suburb of the East Ghouta after several days of fighting against the Islamist rebels in the area.

Led by their elite Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army was able to overpower the militants at the eastern axis of Al-Hamouriyah, paving the way for their units to enter the town.

Putin’s Missiles: Deterring an American Attack?

Putin’s March 1st presentation of new Russian weapons has been greatly misunderstood as a declaration of strategic parity or triumphalism. There was a much more urgent need, namely, to prevent an imminent strike. This danger is not over yet, for a week later, on March, 7, President Putin emphasised his readiness to employ the nuclear weapons for retaliation purposes, even if it would end the world.

The sharply raised stakes were a game-changer. Who knows what will be the Russian response on this or other action of the Western allies? The warlike neocons say Russia is all talk, all bluff. Realists say that the US may suffer the humiliating and painful loss of its CSGs with thousands of lives at sea. The US President had enjoyed the previous strike of Syria with dozens of Tomahawks before returning to his beautiful chocolate cake. If the strike were revisited upon the striking SCGs – this is totally different matter.

Sderot, “bomb shelter capital of the world”, not as heroic as Israel claims

" Sderot is built on the lands of a Palestinian Arab village called Najd, which was ethnically cleansed by Jewish terrorists in May 1948 before Israel was declared a state and before any Arab armies entered Palestine. The 600-plus villagers, all Muslim, were forced to flee for their lives. Britain, the mandated government, was on watch while this and many other atrocities were committed by rampaging Jewish militias." >>

The Lobbying War for War in Yemen

"Coalition airstrikes are based on intelligence and extensive monitoring and surveillance, to ensure all targets are military installations…Extensive precautions are taken to avoid civilian areas, especially where women and children are present," a spokesman for the Saudi coalition in Yemen, announced on December 20.

Six days later, a Saudi coalition air strike ripped through a crowded market in Yemen, killing at least 54 civilians, including eight children. That same day another Saudi coalition air strike killed 14 civilians on a farm in Yemen. All were members of the same family. According to the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, these were in addition to 84 civilians killed in just the previous 10 days in Yemen, and "These incidents prove the complete disregard for human life that all parties, including the Saudi-led Coalition, continue to show in this absurd war."

Iran FM vows 'utmost efforts' to help people of Syria, Yemen

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has pledged the Islamic Republic's "utmost efforts" to help people in the two war-ravaged countries of Syria and Yemen.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran will make its utmost efforts to alleviate the pain and suffering of the war-stricken people of Syria and Yemen and dispatch humanitarian aid to the two countries' people," Zarif said in a meeting with the president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Peter Maurer, in Tehran on Sunday.

Saudi Arabia and its allies launched the war on Yemen in March 2015. The military campaign, which is accompanied by a land, aerial and naval blockade of Yemen, has so far killed more than 13,600 people and led to a humanitarian crisis.

The only Jewish ghetto in the Middle East

"Aljazeera reported on 7 March that the Israeli parliament has passed a law that allows the minister of interior to revoke the residency rights of any Palestinian in Jerusalem on grounds of a “breach of loyalty” to Israel.

"Under the new measure, Israel’s interior minister, Aryeh Deri, leader of the ultra-Orthodox political party Shas and a convicted criminal, has the authority to revoke the residency documents of any Palestinian whom he deems a “threat”.

"It doesn’t take a genius to grasp that this law is racially oriented: it applies only to non-Jews. GOP Senator Long Critical Of Yemen War Now Helping Trump Block Debate On It

Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.) spent much of 2017 urging greater accountability for the American role in the civil war in Yemen ? presenting himself as one of few GOP critics of the Trump administration’s policies and aligning with prominent critics of U.S.-backed Saudi-United Arab Emirates operations in Yemen, like Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and a bevy of national security experts on the left and right.

Now he is trying to undercut the clearest shot war skeptics have of forcing the U.S. to change course.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Sadly, this is the legislation which will probably be voted into law; and I would strongly suspect that it is utterly no accident that this legislation has been introduced shortly after the "AIIPAC Convention came to DC.

Young just apparently got "turned" to support the Israeli notion of a US proxy war against Iran, staged from Yemen and Saudi Arabia.

And precisely what this legislation is engineered to do IS to create an outright proxy war with Iran, which may well lead to an actual, physical attack by the US against Tehran.

US Pouring Weapons Into War-Torn Yemen

Three years into the 2015 Saudi-led invasion of Yemen, untold thousands are dead. Northern Yemen has been through the worst cholera outbreak in human history, and civilians continue to die in bunches from Saudi airstrikes against the region.

To call Yemen war-torn is really putting it mildly. Yemen is in a disastrous state, with a Saudi-led naval blockade threatening to starve millions. If there’s one thing Yemen has no shortage of, however, it’s weapons, with the US ensuring a massive supply continues to pour into the hands of Saudi and Emirati forces.

US arms sales are themselves at a record high during this war, in no small part because of purchases by the United Arab Emirates, and particularly by the Saudis, who are dropping US bombs on northern Yemen as fast as they can buy them.

Turkey, Iran part of 'triangle of evil' in region: Saudi crown prince

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman claims Turkey and Iran, along with extremist groups, have formed a “triangle of evil” in the region amid Riyadh’s anger over Tehran-Ankara cooperation in Syria and the Turkish support for Qatar in the standoff with a Riyadh-led quartet of states.

“The contemporary triangle of evil comprises Iran, Turkey and extremist religious groups,” Egypt’s Al-Shorouk newspaper quoted bin Salman as saying on Wednesday in an interview with newspaper editors in Cairo.

Bin Salman’s belligerent comments against Iran were not the first of their kind, but those against Turkey mark a sudden escalation.

The heir to the Saudi throne further accused Turkey of seeking to revive the Ottoman Empire.

Saudi Strikes Kills Two Civilians, Wounds Several Children in North Yemen

Adding yet more bodies to the soaring number of civilian casualties inflicted by Saudi airstrikes against Yemen, Saudi warplanes carried out four strikes on early Wednesday in northern Yemen, near Saada. Two civilians were killed and a number of others wounded.

Three strikes hit a single family’s home, killing a woman and her daughter, and wounding a number of other children within. A fourth strike hit a relative’s house, next door, wounding those who survived the initial attack.

Saudi Arabia invaded Yemen in early 2015, and has since killed thousands of civilians in airstrikes. Concerns about the war crimes have grown internationally, but particularly in the US and UK, as both nations sell substantial arms to the Saudis, which adds to concerns of culpability in the war crimes. The US has also provided direct aid to the Saudi campaign.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Many years ago, the comic genius Bob Newhart, doing a monologue as a despondent radio show host, with a terrible shift, and no callers, made the statement, "Dead Burnt Babies; I'm for them!!", as a way to spark at least a call or two, filled with moral outrage at the comment.

But unfortunately, Saudi Arabia's Prince Mohammed Ben Salman, otherwise characterised by me on this site as the BOY, AKA, the BUTCHER OF YEMEN, is deadly serious about maximizing the genocidal assassination of infants, children, women, and the medically infirm, and other non-combatants, in a war which can only, ultimately, have a political, rather than military, solution.

And the US government and military are helping him do it, meaning that my country, the Unhinged, Surveilled, State of America, the country of my birth and nationality, is colluding in Saudi warcrimes in Yemen.

WHERE THE FLIP, PLEASE, IS THE OUTRAGE FROM MY BROTHER AND SISTER AMERICANS?!?!?

It's just not on the radar screen, because the corporate presstitutes and whorespondents just won't cover it.

I therefore, sincerely, and respectfully, ask ALL of Rivero's Rangers to call the number indicated above, to voice support for an end to the US government's participation in this slaughter of the Yemeni people.

The BOY is already on his "road show" in the UK.

This mass murderering prince will be negotiating for yet more bombs and bullets to enable him to further decimate the Yemeni people in a war of attrition; next, he will be coming to the US later this month, to do precisely the same thing.

I hope that when he gets to the US, that there will be peaceful, and massive demonstrations against his presence; sadly, I doubt that will happen, because far too few Americans have truly taken the time to educate themselves on what the Saudi government, with American military help, is doing in Yemen.

UPDATE: I have, myself, just called my two senators, Senator Hirono, and Senator Schatz, requesting that they support this bill. I requested a call back from Senator Schatz, as I know that when he is on-island, he lives relatively not far from here; I would not bet that it is going to happen, but I wanted him to know that I was passionate about the US colluding with Saudi Arabia in war crimes in Yemen. I spoke to his aide, and was polite, but strong about what I both know, and feel, on the issue.

Major security gaffe as Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman prepares to talk oil over tea

Mohammed bin Salman had a busy – and very public – evening, thanks to an embarrassing leak by a staffer. MBS’ itinerary was put on display for all to see, including a scrum of photographers waiting outside 10 Downing Street.

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince touched down in the United Kingdom on Wednesday for his first official visit. Legal Scholars Trash Pentagon’s Effort To Prevent Senate Debate On Yemen War

Two top legal experts have told the Senate’s leaders that they see little merit in a Trump administration legal opinion criticizing Senate efforts to debate U.S. involvement in Yemen’s civil war.

“The insinuation... that the President may unilaterally engage the United States in military action to defend presidentially decreed American interests is frivolous,” write Bruce Ackerman, a Yale Law School professor, and Bruce Fein, a Reagan-era Justice Department official, in a letter obtained by HuffPost. “If the law means anything, it means that the Senate should debate and vote on S.J. THE SPIN MACHINE BEHIND SAUDI ARABIA’S ‘HUMANITARIAN AID PLAN’ FOR YEMEN

On 22 January, the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen unveiled a new plan to deliver "unprecedented relief to the people of Yemen".

The Yemen Comprehensive Humanitarian Operations (YCHO) is a new "aid" programme with the ostensible aim of "addressing immediate aid shortfalls while simultaneously building capacity for long-term improvement of humanitarian aid and commercial goods imports to Yemen".

This will primarily be done through increasing the "capacities of Yemeni ports to receive humanitarian as well as commercial imports" - and all sealed with a whopping $1.5bn in aid contributions. What could possibly be wrong with that?

STARVATION POLITICS
The problem here is not only that the funding required to meet the needs created by the Saudi-led coalition is estimated by the UN to be twice that amount. The real problem is that the plan will not, in fact, increase the imports on which Yemen is utterly dependent, but reduce them still further.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One would expect nothing less from Prince Mohammed bin Salman, AKA MBS, or, in the world of civilized human beings, the Butcher of Yemen, whose 3 year military campaign and ongoing war crimes in Yemen, have included the murder of infants, women, and the medically fragile elderly in civilian areas.

Children who don't get blown into smithereeens by his genocidal assassins wind up dying from malnutrition, and cholera (possibly weaponised) and diptheria rage in Yemen right now, due to the health problems brought on by malnutrition.

Oh, and BTW, the US government is ASSISTING his troops by providing mid-air refueling to his country's bombers, and targeting information.

I don't know about you; but being a citizen of a country participating with Saudi Arabian troops in war crimes in Yemen concerns me greatly about the trajectory of US foreign policy in the region under President Trump

It is unfortunate that Mike and I are too broke, and too old, to immigrate to a truly civilized country which isn't involved in such horrific practices, but that is the reality right now.

The BOY (Butcher of Yemen) is on his 2018 road show right now, first in the UK (most probably to negotiate for more bombs and bullets with which to continue his genocidal military campaign in Yemen), and will be touching down in DC later this month, for most probably the same reason.

I would like to hope that he is greeted by Americans who peacefully protest his visit; and let President Trump understand, clearly, that although the BOY may be one of his BFFs in the Middle East, he is no friend of honest, logical, pragmatic US foreign policy in the region, none of which appears to be in view at the moment.

Why Congress must vote on the United States’ role in Yemen

The Obama administration, without consulting Congress, quickly authorized U.S. military forces to provide “logistical and intelligence support” to the Saudi coalition. U.S. military support for this intervention continues to this day. U.S. forces are coordinating, refueling and targeting with the Saudi-led coalition, as confirmed last December by Defense Secretary Jim Mattis .

We believe that since Congress has not authorized military force for this conflict, the United States should play no role in it beyond providing desperately needed humanitarian aid.

That is why we are introducing a joint resolution that would force Congress to vote on the U.S. war in Yemen. If Congress does not authorize the war, our resolution would require U.S. involvement in Yemen to end.

Yemen, The Risks of Famine and Disease. New UN Humanitarian Response Plan Paints Dire Picture of Impact of US-UK-Saudi War

Escalating conflict continues to inflict civilian casualties and cause extensive damage to public and private infrastructure. Half of the Yemeni population live in areas directly affected by conflict, many of whom are suffering from the deliberate targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure, and other apparent violations of International Humanitarian Law (IHL). As of late December 2017, health facilities reported 9,245 conflict related deaths and over 52,807 injuries – meaning that an average of 60 people have been killed or injured every day in the past two and a half years. Given that only 50 per cent of health facilities remain functional, and acknowledging the limited reporting capacity across the country, this number is significantly underreported. Over three million people have been forced to flee from their homes since the escalation of conflict two and a half years ago, including 2 million who remain displaced.

Earlier this month, Dubai hosted the World Government Summit, welcoming dignitaries from around the world for talks on global happiness. The Pentagon’s “Ides of March”: Best Month to Go to War

Is it a coincidence?

In recent history, from the Vietnam war to the present, the month of March has been chosen by Pentagon and NATO military planners as the “best month” to go to war.

With the exception of the War on Afghanistan (October 2001) and the 1990-91 Gulf War, all major US-NATO and allied led military operations over a period of more than half a century –since the invasion of Vietnam by US ground forces on March 8, 1965– have been initiated in the month of March.

The Ides of March (Idus Martiae) is a day in the Roman calendar which broadly corresponds to March 15. The Ides of March is also known as the date on which Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 BC.

Lest we forget, the month of March (in the Roman Calendar) is dedicated to Mars (Martius), the Roman God of War.

For the Romans, the month of March (Martius) marked “the time to start new military campaigns.”

For Yemen’s sake, stop giving Saudis WMDs: Rouhani to West

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has called on the Western countries to stop providing Saudi Arabia with weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) for the sake of Yemeni people, who have been suffering under Riyadh’s bloody attacks and siege.

Rouhani made the remarks in an address to a large crowd of people in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas in Hormozgan Province on Wednesday.

“We say to Europe and the world that if you truly care about the people of Yemen; Don’t give Saudi Arabia destructive bombs. If you really think of Yemenis, don’t give Saudi Arabia banned Napalm bombs, don’t give Saudi Arabia cluster bombs,” he said.

The comments came two days after Russia vetoed a British-drafted resolution at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) that seemed more to target Iran rather than address the Yemen crisis. The failed document called for “additional measures” against Iran over accusations that it violated the 2015 arms embargo on Yemen.

Senators Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Rand Paul (R-KY), Mike Lee (R-UT), and Chris Murphy (D-CT) are forwarding the bill, which notes that Congress has never authorized the use of military force in Yemen. This should allow Congress to oblige the administration to end US involvement in the war.

The US has participated in the Saudi invasion of Yemen since it began in 2015, with US planes performing mid-air refueling missions for Saudi bombers, and US warships at times participating in the Saudi-led naval blockade which is causing mass starvation in Yemen.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This move is morally correct, as the US government and military have been colluding with Saudi Arabia in war crimes in Yemen, through participation in the blockade and providing aerial refueling of Saudi bombers, supporting the bombing runs which have led to the massive, indescriminate killing of innocents, including women, children, infants, and the medically fragile elderly. And now, we have massive cases of cholera and diptheria ravaging the land.

But as morally correct as it may be, the passage of such legislation may prove quixotic in the extreme, for several reasons.

First, the Butcher of Yemen, AKA the Saudi Prince Salman, hates the fact that the Houthi rebels are Shia, and believes that they are getting extensive assistance from Iran (which, BTW, can hardly be proven at this point, other than for a few Iranian advisors).

Iran is considered by Saudi Arabian royalty and government to be its existential threat in the region.

So, the plan is, pound the Yemeni people down to extinction, through the genocidal campaign Saudi Arabia is currently waging against it, then go after Iran militarily. This was reported at globalresearch.ca on 13 February of this year:

The Coming War on Lebanon: Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the US Prepare for a long-Planned Middeast War.

The basic plan is to invade and control Lebanon, destroying Iran's ally Hezbullah; destabilizing and regime changing Damascus; then attacking Iran, with US and Israeli military help.

Of course, there is one tiny bit of of the calculus which Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the US haven't quite factored into their plans, and that is the current Russian presence in Syria, and the Russian promise it has consistently made to Iran to defend it if it should ever be invaded.

And THAT... is the thousand pound gorilla, sleeping splayed over the grand piano, which is going going to make such coming wars.... interesting, if not globally devastating.

Iran Blasts US, Britain, France for Massacre of Yemeni Women, Children

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi slammed the US, Britain and France for escalating war in Yemen through their arms shipments and supports for the Saudi-led coalition, saying the three UN Security Council member states are responsible for the pains, sufferings and massacre of women and children in Yemen.

Qassemi blasted the US and Britain for their unconstructive role in the UN Security Council in the past three years and their attempts to legitimize the aggressors in the Yemen war, stressing the need for ending the Saudi-led aggression against the poor Arab country.

Yemen's forgotten war: Locals tell their stories

With Yemen's political and humanitarian situation growing increasingly fragile, DW speaks to people inside the country about what life is like in the midst of the war.

The third anniversary of the war in Yemen is approaching, and there are few signs that the conflict, which is being fought between an armed military group called the Houthis and Saudi-backed government forces, is abating.

Last month, the country was pushed into further uncertainty following the killing of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh by the Houthis. Saleh, a former Houthi ally who had switched allegiances to support the Saudi-led coalition, was an important figure in the war and his death has been viewed as cementing Houthi power, in the short term at least.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In terms of blame, and really missing the mark as to just how resilient the Houthi rebels were, we can thank Saudi Prince Salman, the Butcher of Yemen, for this obscene situation here, aided and abbetted in his war crimes, by none other than the Good Old Us Government.

Innocent women and children have been slain, indiscriminately; the medical infrastructure has been gutted by Saudi bombings; and Depleted Uranium, that "gift that keeps on giving", has been used, giving rise to massive rises in stillbirths and horrific fetal deformities in Yemen's children.

Malnutrition is causing Yemeni children to starve to death; disease, in the forms of both cholera and diptheria (pehaps weaponized), have felled hundreds of other, and appear to be expanding their deathly grasp.

Prince Salman could initiate a diplomatic solution by attempting to negotiate with the Houthi Rebels; he will not, because of not wanting to "lose face" in the Arab World, and because he believes that the Shia Houthi are aided by Iran, his existential enemy.

So he is very happy, to continue to allow the death of Yemeni innocents, by any means necessary, to essentially beat Yemen into a pulp, before he goes after Iran with a direct military conflict, supported by the US Government, and specifically President Trump. As reported at financetwitter last November:

With Trump's Support, Saudi Crown Prince is ready for a war with Iran
