Lawsuit: Female attorney strapped up in court

The next day, MacDonald Shimota was summoned to Knutson’s courtroom for a hearing. During a break, several members of the Dakota, Minnesota, County sheriff’s office detained her, stripped her of her glasses, jewelry and shoes, and strapped her to a wheelchair, according to a lawsuit filed by MacDonald on March 25, 2015.

MacDonald Shimota then was wheeled back into court still strapped to the chair, where her notes and cell phone had been removed, and Knutson forced her to continue the proceedings while still restrained, the lawsuit continues.

After the proceedings were over, MacDonald Shimota was wheeled back into the holding area where, the lawsuit charges, the sheriff’s office engaged in seven of the internationally recognized forms of torture: sexual humiliation, sleep deprivation, sensory deprivation, solitary confinement/isolation, temperature extremes, sensory bombardment and psychological techniques.

Shining a Light on Corporate "Dark Money"

If 2014 was the “Year of Dark Money” in elections, then 2016 is likely to be the “Year of Way, Way More Dark Money” — that is, unless something big changes soon.

One of the most troubling aspects of the explosion of big money in politics in recent years is the rapid rise in spending by groups that aren’t required to disclose their donors.

G.O.P.’s Israel Support Deepens as Political Contributions Shift

As the proposed agreement over Iran’s nuclear program is debated in coming weeks, President Obama will make his case to a Congress controlled by Republicans who are more fervently pro-Israel than ever, partly a result of ideology, but also a product of a surge in donations and campaign spending on their behalf by a small group of wealthy donors.

Outrage: GOP senators betraying voters with Loretta Lynch confirmation

A large number of Republican voters who went to the polls on Nov. 4, 2014, to send President Barack Obama a message by giving the GOP control of both the Senate and House of Representatives are in for a big disappointment. Instead of preventing a continuation of the politicized Department of Justice run by Attorney General Eric Holder, some Republican senators indicated they will vote for nominee Loretta Lynch as Holder's replacement, according to weekend news stories and Sunday morning news shows.

The IRS and Congress Both Hold Our Liberty in Contempt

This week the Justice Department announced it would not charge former Internal Revenue Service (IRS) official Lois Lerner with contempt of Congress. Some members of Congress requested that Lerner be charged with contempt after she refused to testify at a congressional hearing investigating her role in denying or delaying the applications for tax-exempt status of "tea party" and pro-limited government organizations.

Who’s Playing “Hide and Cheat”?

Not surprisingly, the painfully negotiated pact was denounced by Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, who has repeatedly, and illegally, threatened Iran over its alleged desire to build an atomic bomb. But Obama’s rebuff of Netanyahu’s position was well deserved, given Israel’s record of stealing American military secrets and spying on private American talks with its allies.

If Iran had been guilty of such crimes, the American public would now be deaf from the outcry of the Republicans in Congress. Americans need to remember that Jonathan Jay Pollard, an American civilian naval intelligence analyst, pleaded guilty in 1987 to selling classified information to Israel. At least 800 documents were snitched. Pollard, who became an Israeli citizen, sits in a U.S. prison today in Butner, N.C., serving a life sentence. Former Defense Secretary Casper Weinberger said his espionage “would cause the greatest harm to our national security.”

Netanyahu in US media blitz against Iran deal

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu launched a frontal propaganda attack on US President Barack Obama yesterday on the major US television networks, in an effort to counter the White House's aggressive sales campaign on behalf of the framework agreement on Iran's nuclear program reached last week, aimed at legislators on Capitol Hill and at the US public at large.

Obama and his aides have been using the Easter weekend to speak to senators and representatives from both the Democratic and Republican parties in an attempt to persuade them that the proposed agreement with Iran is the most effective way of blocking Iran's path to a nuclear weapon. For Netanyahu, the most important target audience is Democratic legislators torn between their loyalty to Obama and their traditional support for Israel. In the end, it is the Democratic legislators who will decide whether the Senate will be able to override a presidential veto on legislation designed to overturn the deal with Iran.

Feds Admit Medical Pot Works on Brain Tumors — but They’re Going After Users Anyway

In a report issued by a U.S. government-funded research group tasked with studying drug abuse and addiction, researchers are admitting that marijuana is useful in killing off specific types of brain tumors.

The report — coming from a government-backed group with annual budget of over $1 billion — arrives at an awkward time for the administration following an announcement by the Department of Justice this week that it will continue to prosecute medical marjiuana cases against individuals in defiance of Congress.

California water shortage: One drought for the rich and another for everyone else as Golden State goes brown again

In Los Angeles, whose residents use an average of 265 litres per day, an academic study found that the most affluent neighbourhoods used up to three times more water than others. In wealthy southern cities such as Malibu and Newport Beach, where people have large front lawns, consumption was more than 560 litres per capita in January.

Stephanie Pincetl, director of the California Centre for Sustainable Communities, told The Los Angeles Times: “The problem lies, in part, in the social isolation of the rich, the moral isolation of the rich.” The rich, she said, were “lacking a sense that we are all in this together”.

GMO Seed Theft Equals National Security Threat, Argues Government

Federal investigators reportedly sought approval from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, also known as the FISA court, which is best known for rubber stamping the NSA's sweeping surveillance program for the powers to spy on the communications of siblings Mo Hailong and Mo Yu in an attempt to connect the two employees of the Beijing-based DBN Group, a conglomerate that owns a seed company, with the Chinese government.

However, rights advocates and attorneys representing the pair say that the government is conflating a trade dispute with a national security threat in order to protect the interests of the powerful biotechnology industry.

Since Congressman Steve Israel first called for legislation that would ban 3-D printed guns, those plastic-printed firearms have evolved from a few simple components to a full one-shot pistol to rifles and multi-shot revolvers, with more advances on the horizon. Israel’s bill, meanwhile, has gone nowhere, leaving a widening gap between DIY weapons and the law.

US Oil Celebrates Election of Former Nigerian Dictator

A massive series of NATO War Games simulations took place at the Operation Flintlock 2015 AFRICOM Conference, where thousands of US and African soldiers began intensive training programs. As the conference concluded, Boko Haram declared its allegiance with ISIS. Major media latched onto that story and ran with it like a constipated greyhound. A report published by one of the world’s largest audit, tax, and advisory firms, KPMG Africa, a subsidiary of KPMG International, outlined in explicit detail the plans and tax incentives of razing the impoverished and unstable region for oil and natural gas.

Though a final deal won’t be sealed until later this year, the framework agreement announced in Lausanne, Switzerland on Thursday between Iran and the P5+1 nations is having reverberations across the world—offering hope of rapprochement, peace, and better days ahead for those who support it and heckles and frowns from those who appear to think that a continued stalemate and endless sanctions, or possibly war, are the better path.

Yemen – the Big Picture

As usual, western media are deliberately confusing in communicating on the latest Mid-East conflict which eventually led to the recent atrocious bombing of Yemen by the US-directed Saudi alliance, including Qatar and other Gulf monarchies. They are proxies, to be sure, for their Washington masters. My heart is bleeding for Yemen, a country of warm and generous people I got to know well, working with them in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Yemen, like Ukraine, is just another square on the geopolitical chess board which the exceptional nation aims to dominate.

It is certainly true, where ever the US and its NATO cronies put their heavy boots, they create lasting misery and chaos

Raimondo: The Iran Deal

It’s a good one – but can it survive the US Congress?

Israel has been threatening to attack Iran unilaterally for years, including during these negotiations, and they are not above launching a provocation – one that will ignite a conflict that would envelope the entire Middle East and much of the world.

As I said in my last column, the US Congress is the catch, the fly in the ointment that could nix this deal and lead us down the path to another war in the Middle East. Nothing has been signed. What we have is a framework, one that will lead to a fuller agreement in June – if Congress doesn’t step in and stop it.

“A number of major pharmaceutical corporations and biotech firms are concealing the nature of the biological warfare research work they are doing for the U.S. government.

VIP paedophile murders: Police didn't tell family about quizzing suspects in killing of boy aged eight

George Osborne’s tax giveaway for millionaires has saved them an astonishing £85,000 each – while the average family has been left £1,100 a year worse off.

The out-of-touch Chancellor’s decision to slash the top rate of tax from 50p to 45p since 2013 means high-rollers on seven-figure salaries have seen their take-home pay swell.

But Labour analysis of figures from the HMRC shows changes in a series of areas since 2010 mean the average household in Britain is now almost £100 worse off every month.

63 police inquiries, 2,100 victims... the child abuse dossier that shames Britain after horrific explosion of historic sex cases since Savile

The unprecedented scale of current police investigations into historic child abuse can be revealed for the first time today, as senior officers warn of the challenge of investigating alleged crimes that go back decades.

An investigation by The Mail on Sunday has revealed that:

Forces around Britain are carrying out more than 60 major investigations into sex attacks and beatings in schools, children’s homes and churches dating back to the 1950s.

More than 2,000 people have come forward in the wake of the Jimmy Savile scandal to say they were abused at institutions or by public figures, including prominent politicians.

A staggering 1,200 of the alleged victims were inmates of just one institution, a northern borstal once visited by the late Home Secretary Leon Brittan and praised for its ‘short, sharp shock’ regime. He himself is now at the centre of a number of abuse claims.

Good News and Bad News

For Israel, there's good news and bad news after Iran deal

Although Iran's nuclear project will be monitored for at least a decade, the deal also grants it recognition as a power to be reckoned with.

HAARETZ: The framework agreement crafted Thursday in Lausanne between Iran and the world powers is a historic step. After nearly 13 years of on-and-off negotiations, a deal aims to stop the progress of Iran’s nuclear program for an extended period.
***
From an Israeli perspective, the relatively good news is that Iran’s nuclear project will be monitored for at least a decade. For now, it seems that during this time Iran’s chances of developing a nuclear weapon will decline significantly.
***
The bad news is not only that Iran’s economy, which has taken a double-barreled blow from both sanctions and declining oil prices, is expected to recover quickly, but that Iran has also achieved recognition from the world powers for two elements it greatly needs. The powers now acknowledge, indirectly, that Iran is a nuclear threshold state, and no less importantly, they accept Iran as a force to be reckoned with throughout the Middle East.

Tepco: Technology To Decommission Fukushima Needs To Be Invented

Richard Wilcox, PhD
Activist Post

Anyone with a brain could have told you back in 2011 at the time of the Fukushima nuclear triple meltdown that Tokyo Electric (Tepco) was lying about the true condition of the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant No. 1 (“Dai-ichi”). Four years later, Tepco officials have finally admitted that it may not be technologically possible to decommission the plant.

In the case of Tepco (Tipkill), the facts are overwhelming that not only was Fukushima an “accident waiting to happen” but rather “a foregone conclusion.” The location of the plant on soft fill soil at a low altitude near the ocean in a tsunami zone was the first big mistake of the planners, who must have graduated from the Homer Simpson school of donutology. Cost-cutting, corruption and incompetence is part of the well-documented history, which ultimately led to the triple meltdowns...

Polish airport used by CIA obtains millions in EU funds

A small airport in north-eastern Poland used by the CIA to fly in kidnapped detainees for torture at a nearby intelligence training camp has received over €30 million in EU funds.

The EU money is part of a larger €48.5 million sum to turn the former military airstrip into an international commercial airport known as Szymany.

The Brussels-executive has no oversight because the amounts taken from the European regional development fund are too small for it to have a direct stake.

It is instead administered and managed by regional authorities who diverted all the funds into a company they set up after obliging a local Polish-Israeli businessman, who had been instrumental in securing the EU grant, to hand over the airport’s lease.

We Are NOT Charlie Hebdo: Free Thinkers Question the French 9/11 (new book)

Only one version of the Charlie Hebdo affair made the mainstream media: "Muslim extremists kill cartoonists and Jews." An officially-orchestrated response - "je suis Charlie" - followed.

But is there another side to the story?

Disturbing facts quickly emerged. Politicians, big media, the security industry, and arms manufacturers all rushed to cash in. And freedom of speech in France – the supposed target of the terrorists – was rolled back by the French government. Even as millions marched for Charlie, millions more sensed that something was very, very wrong.

In We Are Not Charlie Hebdo, twenty leading public intellectuals refuse the invitation to identify with "Je Suis Charlie." Jews, Muslims, Christians, Protestants, Catholics, atheists, people of the left and right, progressives and traditionalists, people from many different countries and ethnicities – all have united to say "we are NOT Charlie Hebdo." Most suspect the whole affair was a false flag operation or psy-op. (Evidence for that interpretation is presented in the book.) Others merely dissent from the official, mythic false consensus.

The Global siege on Israel: a report from the World Social Forum

The closing of this multi-billion-dollar company can be one of the greatest BDS victories yet.

In June, 2010, when Israeli forces attacked unarmed aid ships of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, killing ten passengers (including one who died this year from injuries), dockworkers around the world refused to unload or load Israeli ships or cargo.

Based on the results in the US, we believe that if ten ports worldwide are closed to Zim, the company’s losses may cause it to close its doors. If Zim and the state of Israel are worried that this movement may become infectious, we can all be proud to spread the virus.

The Senate panel is scheduled to vote on April 14 on the legislation he co-authored with Corker demanding congressional review of an Iran agreement.

Shattered — Nothing is Right in the Middle East

The West worked very hard to turn the Middle East into what it is now. It took centuries to transfigure this culturally deep and great part of the world into the horror show. But it is done!

There is nothing, absolutely nothing right in the Middle East these days. There seems to be no hope left, and no fervor. All that was pure was dragged through filth. All that was great here was stolen or smashed by the outsiders. Enthusiasm had been ridiculed, then drowned, or burned to ashes, or shattered by tanks and missiles.

Arab-Israeli Wars and Conflicts (1948-Present)

This page shows conflicts between the Arab nations (as a group), and Israel. As a rule, a legal state of war has existed between Israel and her Arab enemies since the beginning of the first war in 1948. Egypt signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1979, and Jordan made peace in 1994. The Palestine Authority, headed by Yassir Arafat and his Al-Fatah faction of the Palestine Liberation Organization negotiated a semi-peace, which, from mid-2000 on, has been destroyed through the “Al-Aqsa” Intifada violence. Other Palestinian groups, most notably Hamas, have been at war with Israel continuously. Although Israel and most Arab nations are technically in a continuous state of war, unless otherwise noted, specific outbreaks of fighting are considered to be separate wars.

FLASHBACK:A Brief History of U.S. Interventions: 1945 to the Present

The engine of American foreign policy has been fueled not by a devotion to any kind of morality, but rather by the necessity to serve other imperatives, which can be summarized as follows:
* making the world safe for American corporations;
* enhancing the financial statements of defense contractors at home who have contributed generously to members of congress;
* preventing the rise of any society that might serve as a successful example of an alternative to the capitalist model;
* extending political and economic hegemony over as wide an area as possible, as befits a "great power."

$1 Billion Lawsuit: Government Funded Studies Intentionally Infected People with STDs

This is why people cannot deny that there is likely unethical government experimentation going on against at least segments of the population as we speak. This is the kind of stuff our government has historically done quite often. Uncle Sam has a long, documented history of playing science God on the public without their consent or knowledge that stretches back to at least the 1930s on record. The saddest part isn’t even that this monstrosity took place anymore, it is how the government itself, its various agencies and the private entities involved, are kicking the can back and forth down the road on guilt, while they were all clearly involved in some of the most unethical and disgusting crimes against humanity that there are.
