Fictional Ukrainian president poised to become the real thing

At a Soviet-era circus theatre just days before Ukraine's presidential election, the front-runner in the race held his audience rapt with a mix of "boob" jokes and vaguely patriotic songs.

"What's my favourite sex pose?" comedian Volodymyr Zelenskiy asked, supposedly testing the ability of a "body double" to impersonate him. "Missionary style. Because you like to help people," the body double quipped.

Zelenskiy, 41, shunned stump speeches in favour of skits about ditsy female football referees on a tour of Ukraine with his comedy troupe.

The unmanned interceptor is a tail-sitting drone and is classified as a Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) vehicle, meaning that it can take off and land vertically, and then fly horizontally.

Now we have located online videos of test demonstrations showing the interceptor discharging its Vepr-12 Molot semi-automatic detachable-magazine shotgun. Some videos show the drone blasting UAVs and RC planes from the sky, conducting combat maneuvers, and various ground tests.

Washington ascribes its own plans for Venezuela to Moscow – Russia comments on US threats

The US is projecting its own plans against Venezuela on Moscow, surmising about “military contingents” and “operations,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said, adding that Russian specialists have clear and open goals in the country.

“It looks like Washington is judging by itself, trying to ascribe its own plans it has against this country to Moscow. Yet again, they arrogantly announce they have ‘all option on the table,’” foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a statement on Saturday. She added that Russian specialists in Venezuela are not “military contingent” which Moscow made clear from the very beginning.

‘Get Out of Syria First’: Moscow Reacts to Trump’s Demand to Leave Venezuela

The Trump administration should make good on its own promise to pull troops out of Syria before telling others where they should or shouldn’t be, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in reply to Washington’s threat over Venezuela.

The US is behaving like a “cowboy in the Louvre,” undermining international order with its “chaotic moves and unpredictable behavior,” Zakharova said.

I refer, of course, to the two-year witch hunt directed against President Donald Trump which hopefully just concluded last week – provided that the Hillaryites, Democratic dopes and secret staters who fueled this mania don’t manage to keep the pot boiling.

This column has said from Day 1 that claims Trump was somehow a Russian agent were absurd in the extreme. So too charges that Moscow had somehow rigged US elections. Nonsense. We know it’s the US that helps rig elections around the globe, not those bumbling Russians who can’t afford the big bribes such nefarious activity requires.

ERIC ZUESSE: “TRUMP THREATENS NUCLEAR WAR IF RUSSIA PROTECTS VENEZUELA”

On March 27th, US President Donald Trump said that “Russia has to get out” of Venezuela, and that “All options are on the table” if Russia refuses to withdraw from Venezuela the protection it has recently provided to Venezuela’s elected Government, which Trump is attempting to overthrow, by an illegal coup. And Vice President Mike Pence, on the same day, said “Nicolás Maduro is a dictator with no legitimate claim to power, and it is the policy of the United States of America, at the direction of President Donald Trump, that Nicolás Maduro must go.” The United States is therefore trying to do to Maduro what Barack Obama did to Victor Yanukovich in Ukraine in 2014, and to Muammar Gaddaffi in Libya in 2011, and tried to do to Bashar Assad after 2011 in Syria, and what George W. Bush did in 2003 to Saddam Hussein in Iraq.

Trump says may discuss Venezuela with Putin soon

US President Donald Trump said he may discuss the situation in Venezuela with Russian President Vladimir Putin soon, Reuters reported on Saturday.

"We will probably be talking at some point," the US leader told reporters at his estate in Florida. "I’ll be talking to a lot of people - perhaps President Putin, perhaps President Xi of China."

US national security adviser John Bolton said on Friday that Trump was set to talk with Putin by phone soon. He also said his country viewed the deployment of other states’ troops in Venezuela as a threat to the region.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Putin may well be laughing his head off, considering that the US "blinked and missed" the window for accomplishing anything militarily achievable in Venezuela.

Right now, Putin has President Trump "by the sensitive bits"; Russian troops, who were ordered to Venezuela by Putin, will not leave until Putin tells them to; and right now, that means, indefinitely.

So, what is President Trump prepared to do, fight Russia in Venezuela for its vast oil reserves?!? I would like to hope (and pray) that the people around him, are not prodding him to do so.

And I say that because, right now, the US military doesn't have the manufacturing, the money, the weaponry, or the troop strength, to insure a positive result against Russia and/or China.

An invasion into Venezuela now, is an utterly, a no-win situation, and I would like to hope that the people around Trump have the smarts to see this.

Pompeo wants NATO to take ‘actions’ to help Ukraine

Marines from the U.S. and Ukraine standing together after a company-level attack during the land portion of Exercise Sea Breeze, Saturday, July 14, 2018. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said NATO allies could take additional steps when allies convene next week to help Ukraine defend against Russia.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What on earth is Pompeo speaking about, and what "concrete steps" from NATO is he expecting?!?

That NATO will go to war against Russia in behalf of Ukraine, which is not
yet a NATO signatory?!?

I would like to hope (and pray) that NATO will not fall for any foolishness from this guy.

Having said that, however, if military exercises are supposed to start next week involving Ukraine, we may well be looking at some kind of " false flag"against it, to attempt to ratchet up support for Ukraine against the allegedly "evil empire" of Russia.

White House tells Russia that sending troops and military equipment to Venezuela to prop up Maduro is a 'direct threat to international peace' after special forces land in Caracas

The White House on Friday warned Russia and other countries backing President Nicolas Maduro against sending troops and military equipment to Venezuela, saying the United States would view such actions as a 'direct threat' to the region's security.

The warning comes after two Russian air force planes landed outside of Caracas on Saturday, believed to be carrying nearly 100 Russian special forces and cybersecurity personnel.

Maduro, who is clinging to presidential power in the face of mass protests and an election result which the U.S. and most western nations refuse to recognize, is an ally of Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Never forget the Trump-Russia moral panic: By fearmongering far beyond the evidence, the media and politicians did a huge disservice to the public

I could see the psychological stress in their eyes; it was even taking a physical toll on their bodies. They really, truly believed that the U.S. government had been subverted by an elaborate Kremlin espionage plot. And if that’s what they really thought, they were right to be upset, and scared.

The problem was, they were deceived. A journalistic failure of almost unfathomably monumental proportions whipped these (well-meaning, largely) people into a dangerous frenzy, and wrought untold damage on the body politic. I resolved then that I would not take out my anger on ordinary citizens, who were sold a demented conspiratorial fantasy by cynical profit-seeking media corporations and self-interested politicians. I would instead reserve my scorn for the people who should’ve known better: the wealthy MSNBC hosts, the progressive-leaning legislators, the savvy podcasters and YouTube stars.

With Mueller Done, Now is the Time for Better Relations With Russia

Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation is over, and the results could not be more of a relief for President Donald Trump: no collusion with the Russian government and not enough evidence for an obstruction of justice charge. It was unquestionably good news for the president and for Republicans on Capitol Hill who have lashed their own political futures to Trump.

The report is also a plus for the country—not only because Washington won’t be consumed with a constitutional crisis anytime soon, but also because it provides the Trump administration with its first opportunity to settle on a Russia policy without the risk of an extreme political backlash.

Russia responds to Mueller report: Moscow wins, Putin is stronger than Trump and US is a ‘pain in the a - -’

“A mountain has given birth to a mouse. The ‘Russian affair’ falls to pieces before our eyes.”

So pronounced the Russian news site Gazeta.ru, as word of the completed Mueller report swept around the world.

Thus far, official Russian response to the Mueller findings has been scornful. Leaders are taking the conclusions of U.S. Attorney General William Barr – that the report shows no collusion between the Kremlin and U.S. President Donald Trump – as a chance to dismiss all claims of Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

The Mueller investigation in fact confirms that Russian government agents did meddle in U.S. politics, resulting in the 2018 indictments of 25 Russians. But Russian agencies like the Ministry of Foreign Affairs call charges of covert information warfare “far-fetched lies.”

When responding to US President Donald Trump's statement, saying that Russia "needed to get out of Venezuela," Moscow has emphasised that Russian military personnel is implementing bilateral defence agreements in the Latin American state and will stay there as long as both sides deem necessary.

The Brazilian foreign minister has stated that the Russian military should leave Venezuela if they were "propping up" President Nicolas Maduro.

In an interview with Reuters, Brazilian top diplomat Ernesto Arauijo said he hoped Moscow would recognise that supporting Maduro would "only deepen the collapse of Venezuela's economy and society and that the only way out of the crisis was to hold elections under an interim government led by opposition leader Juan Guaido."

Hackers, claiming to be linked to the Anonymous collective, have been dumping batches of Integrity Initiative (II) documents online since November 2018, gradually uncovering a major UK government-funded project which secretly conducted Europe-wide anti-Russia influence campaigns while posing as a simple disinformation-fighting charity. Earlier leaks led the II to make their public Twitter account temporarily private and to completely wipe their website pending an "investigation" into the situation.

Enemy Within: Declassified U.S. Documents Show Russian Oligarchs Supported NATO Expansion

Fifteen years after the then unknown Vladimir Putin took over the Russian presidency, analysts still puzzle over how he arrived in the position. Newly declassified documents from President Bill Clinton’s administration, released to bne IntelliNews, show how Putin's candidacy was a compromise after a fierce battle for power in Russia between pro-US oligarchs and pro-state conservatives. At stake was not just power in Russia, but the crucial question of Russia's relationship with the West.

Counterpunch: Trump and Barr Won't Give the Clintons a Pass Now – Analyst

Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Trump-Russia probe has failed to find any collusion on the part of the US president with Russia. Speaking to Sputnik, Wall Street analyst Charles Ortel shared his views on Attorney General William Barr's summary and a potential "counterpunch" from Donald Trump.

"I look forward to reading as much of the Mueller report as may emerge, but, so far, I have to say this effort seems a stunning waste of valuable time and money that has caused lasting damage to the prospect of forging amicable, productive relations between the United States and Russia", Wall Street analyst and investigative journalist Charles Ortel told Sputnik.

‘US decision on Golan Heights is highway to war’: Russian Duma speaker

The US decision to recognize the Golan Heights as Israel's territory was taken bypassing the UN Security Council and ignoring the UN dialogue on the issue, said Vyacheslav Volodin, the speaker of Russia’s Lower House.

“All members of the international community should voice their stand on the matter,” he said during the meeting with Lebanese President Michel Aoun.

Such a development could lead to a situation where “everyone is fighting each other,” he stressed. “The rule of force would dominate. This is a highway to war.”

Syria requests UN Security Council meeting on Golan

Syria says the US decision to recognise the Golan Heights as Israeli territory contravenes international law.

President Donald Trump signed a proclamation on Monday in which the United States recognised Israel's annexation of the strategic plateau, despite UN resolutions recognising the Golan as Israeli-occupied territory.

The council is scheduled to discuss the latest crisis on Wednesday during a meeting on renewing the mandate of the UN peacekeeping force deployed between Israel and Syria in the Golan, known as UNDOF.

Russia on military planes in Venezuela: Our specialists are there based on cooperation treaty

Russian specialists are in Venezuela as part of the 2001 military-technical cooperation deal with Caracas that doesn’t need further approval, Moscow said after reports of the arrival of two military planes with troops and cargo.
Russia develops its relations with Venezuela “in strict accordance with the Constitution of this country and in full respect of its legislation,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

The existing deal was ratified by both Russia and Venezuela, and it “doesn’t require any additional approval from the National Assembly of Venezuela,” she pointed out.

U.S. calls Russia deployment of planes to Venezuela 'reckless escalation'

The United States on Monday accused Russia of “reckless escalation” of the situation in Venezuela by deploying military planes and personnel to the crisis-stricken South American nation that Washington has hit with crippling sanctions.

The Russian planes and military personnel arrived outside the Venezuelan capital Caracas on Saturday, according to local media reports, two months after the Trump administration disavowed President Nicolas Maduro.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This would be hysterically comical, except for the hard reality people are dying due to shortages, and hospitals had to close, because the electricity was down.

Putin has made himself very clear, here; and DC moved far too late in the process, to prevent the arrival of Russian troops and weapons, so the only thing the US government can do, is bellicosely deny that the US government had anything to do with the current situation in Venezuela

BREAKING: Ukrainian Security Boss Admits Ukraine Shot Down MH-17, Planned Ethnic Genocide In Donbass

The Ukrainian side was involved in the MH17 flight disaster over Donbass, a former officer of the Ukrainian security service SBU, Vasily Prozorov, told a news conference on Monday.

“It is my personal opinion and it relies on certain information. The Ukrainian side is an accomplice to the Malaysian MH17 flight disaster,” he said.

“The amazingly prompt reaction of the Ukrainian leadership was the first thing that made me feel suspicious. My unequivocal opinion was President Pyotr Poroshenko and his press-service had prior knowledge of the affair. Secondly, hostilities had been underway for several months by then, but the airspace over the area was not closed,” Prozorov said.

In particular he emphasized the invariable response to all of his attempts to find out the circumstances of the disaster, for instance, a conversation with General Staff officers. The usual reply was: “Don’t poke your nose into this business, if you don’t wish to have problems.”

Russian Lawmaker Proposes to Probe Possible US Impact on Russian Elections

Vitaly Milonov, a member of the Russian State Parliament’s international affairs committee, has proposed to create a special panel to investigate the possible influence of US intelligence services and government agencies on election processes in Russia.

"Given the political situation, it would be a logical step to set up a parliamentary commission in the State Duma to investigate the influence of US intelligence services and official state bodies on the electoral processes in Russia. Parliamentarians may find evidence of manipulation with the people’s votes during the 1990s, and publish the facts of attempts to interfere in the Russian elections", Milonov said in a petition to Speaker of the Russian parliament's lower chamber Viacheslav Volodin, obtained by Sputnik.

US Will Not Tolerate ‘Hostile Foreign Meddling’ in Western Hemisphere - Bolton

Earlier on Monday, the United States said that the deployment by Russia of air force planes and personnel in Venezuela over the weekend was a "reckless escalation of the situation" in the country.

Russian planes 'carrying troops' arrive in Venezuela

Two Russian Air Force reportedly planes landed in Venezuela's main airport on Saturday carrying a Russian defence official and around 100 troops.

One flight tracking website shows two aircraft left a Russian military base for the Venezuelan capital Caracas on Friday, with a further jet leaving on Sunday.

The arrival of the military jets was confirmed by Javier Mayorca, an independent journalist, who said an Antonov-124 cargo plane and a smaller jet touched down late on Saturday.

He said approximately 100 soldiers – led by General Vasily Tonkoshkurov, who is head of the Mobilization Directorate of Russia's armed forces – was also seen, as well as 35 tons of equipment.

As Russia collusion fades, Ukrainian plot to help Clinton emerges

After nearly three years and millions of tax dollars, the Trump-Russia collusion probe is about to be resolved. Emerging in its place is newly unearthed evidence suggesting another foreign effort to influence the 2016 election — this time, in favor of the Democrats.

Ukraine’s top prosecutor divulged in an interview aired Wednesday on Hill.TV that he has opened an investigation into whether his country’s law enforcement apparatus intentionally leaked financial records during the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign about then-Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort in an effort to sway the election in favor of Hillary Clinton.

The leak of the so-called black ledger files to U.S. media prompted Manafort’s resignation from the Trump campaign and gave rise to one of the key allegations in the Russia collusion probe that has dogged Trump for the last two and a half years.

Crimea: The Geopolitical Jewel Putin Continues to Polish

With all that is happening in the world Crimea has taken a bit of a backseat recently. Yes, the US, EU and Canada just added more sanctions on Russia via the odious Magnitsky legislation but this is inconsequential.

There’s been a flurry of good news coming out of Crimea and the Black Sea recently that bears discussion. Let’s start with the most important. President Vladimir Putin was in Crimea earlier this week to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the peninsula’s reunification with Russia. There he also officially inaugurated two major upgrades to Crimea’s power grid.

Russian plane in Venezuela amid reports of Russian military arrival

A cargo plane bearing the Russian flag was spotted by AFP at the main airport in Venezuela Sunday amid reports that Moscow has dispatched troops and a senior military official to the country.

The aircraft was seen at Maiquetia airport outside Caracas guarded by a contingent of Venezuelan National Guardsmen.

Javier Mayorca, an independent journalist, reported on his Twitter account the arrival of two Russian panes — an Antonov-124 cargo plane and a smaller jet — late Saturday at the airport.

He said around 100 Russian soldiers led by General Vasily Tonkoshkurov, head of the Mobilization Directorate of Russia’s armed forces, disembarked along with about 35 tons of equipment.

A picture of a Russian flagged aircraft posted on social media showed men in uniform clustered around it on the tarmac.

There was no confirmation from Venezuelan authorities, and the Russian embassy in Caracas declined to comment to AFP on the report, which was widely carried by Venezuelan media.

Now for Confrontation in Space

Which leads us to General “Fighting Joe” Dunford, who at his Senate hearing for appointment as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said “my assessment today, Senator, is that Russia presents the greatest threat to our national security.” In October 2018 he reiterated that “the Russian challenge is not isolated to the plains of Europe. It is a global one” requiring the armed forces of the United States “to be able to project power to an area... and then once we’re there we’ve got to be able to freely manoeuvre across all domains... sea, air, land, space, and cyberspace.”

Naturally he didn’t mention that at the very time he uttered his confrontational challenges there was close cooperation in air, land and space between the US and Russia whose astronauts were “able to freely manoeuvre” in harmony, adding to world knowledge and engendering trust by jointly conducting research projects in the International Space Station.

Crimea became a part of the Russian Empire following the Turko-Russian war of 1783, ending the 300-year rule by the Ottomans. The next key date in the debacle is that Crimea was gifted to the Ukraine in 1954 by Soviet leader Nikita Kruschev.

Russia Gives US Red Line On Venezuela

At a high-level meeting in Rome this week, it seems that Russia reiterated a grave warning to the US – Moscow will not tolerate American military intervention to topple the Venezuelan government with whom it is allied.

Meanwhile, back in Washington DC, President Donald Trump was again bragging that the military option was still on the table, in his press conference with Brazilian counterpart Jair Bolsonaro. Trump is bluffing or not yet up to speed with being apprised of Russia’s red line.

The meeting in the Italian capital between US “special envoy” on Venezuelan affairs Elliot Abrams and Russia’s deputy foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov had an air of urgency in its arrangement. The US State Department announced the tête-à-tête only three days beforehand. The two officials also reportedly held their two-hour discussions in a Rome hotel, a venue indicating ad hoc arrangement.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am hoping and praying, that President Trump "sees the light" of non-intervention in this situation.

But if he does not, and Abrams, Bolton, and Pompeo urge him to go into Venezuela, guns blazing, this country will most likely find itself in a war of attrition in a jungle environment, in which our military does not generally fare quite well (Anyone at the White House remember the Vietnam War?!? Thought not.)

Mueller Report: 'US Forced EU to Follow Through on Sanctions Without Proof'

I think for many it is an anticlimax, absolutely. There's so much invested here. Two plus years, millions of dollars, political capital on both sides, and you've got people who have lost their livelihoods. A lot of the people that were brought in, their names exposed, their reputations were damaged. We've got the six people that have been charged [for] things that happened ten years ago; some are financially ruined now; some will spend time in jail for lying to Congress or lying to the FBI over minor financial things that may have gone unnoticed without this.

You look at the other side too, and we've got damage to international relations, not just with Russia, where what has occurred is just outrageous, but also Europe. I mean we forced Europe to follow through on sanctions that there's no evidence for. They've lost business as a result of that, so I'm sure the Europeans will be quite interested in seeing more and learning more about what's coming out of this as well.

US Completely Invalidates All Of Its Own Arguments About Crimea

Authored by Caitlin Johnstone via Medium.com,

Well the worst Putin Puppet of all time is at it again, this time tweeting that the US must recognize the Golan Heights as part of Israel despite the fact that the Israeli occupation of that Syrian land is illegal under international law.

“After 52 years it is time for the United States to fully recognize Israel’s Sovereignty over the Golan Heights, which is of critical strategic and security importance to the State of Israel and Regional Stability!”, Trump’s tweetreads.

Russian parliament member Oleg Morozov made a statement in response to Trump’s proclamation, saying that “Russia will never agree to recognize Israeli sovereignty in the Golan. Trump is damaging the international community and the Arab world”.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Russia never "annexed Crimea"

What happened was the following.

President Obama admitted that the US had been part of the movement to regime change Crimea, with the throwing under the proverbial bus its duly elected leader, Yanukovich, under the bus, in favor of Poroshenko. President Obama confesses, in an interview on CNN, that the US was behind the Ukrainian coup deal, installing President Poroshenko

At that point, leadership in Crimea understood that there was no legitimate government in Kiev, and did two things at that point.

First, they held a referendum for the Crimean people, asking if they wanted to stay with Ukraine, post-putch, or petition the Russian federation for membership.

Overwhelmingly, the Crimean people, in a very clean vote, observed by local and foreign representatives, to leave Ukraine, and petition the Russian Federation for membership. The Russian Federation accepting Crimea's membership, and all was well.

That is, except for the US huffing and puffing that the Crimean people had no right to peaceful self determination, as stated in the UN Charter, to which the US is I(allegedly) a signatory. The US cannot have it both ways; if they cannot commit to supporting the UN charter, it might as well withdraw its membership to the organization.

There was zero annexation here, but a real-world expression of that freedom for self-determiniation by the Crimean people.

On the other hand, the Golan Heights was seized by Israel, with the citizens of the Golan given no right to any representation whatsoever, except under Israeli edict.

This is an occupation, and an annexation, which is the polar opposite of what happened in Crimea, after the Western-orchestrated Putch put Poroshenko in power in Kiev.

World countries blast US on Golan, Syria vows to liberate Israeli occupied territory

The Arab League, Russia, Iran and Turkey have strongly warned the US after President Donald Trump declared Thursday that he will recognize Syria's Golan Heights as Israeli territory.

The strategic highlands have been under the Israeli occupation since 1967, but Trump's abrupt declaration a day after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit to Israel brings the dispute to a boiling point.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday Trump's statement has brought the region to the edge of a new crisis.

Trump Tweet on British Opens Spring Offensive Against the Coup

March 20, 2019 - It has become entirely clear over the past 24 hours that the President and his defenders are on an all out offensive ahead of the release of the Mueller report, which many state is coming very soon. The President opened this campaign by attacking John McCain as part of the Russiagate fraud against him and went on to attack the British instigators and sustainers of the coup. On March 18, the President retweeted a tweet by William Craddick of Disobedient Media. Disobedient Media is one of the few outfits other than LaRouchePAC, and the Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity, with the guts to question the foundational premise of the coup, that the Russians hacked the DNC and Clinton Campaign Chair John Podesta. Guaido's Chief Of Staff Detained By Venezuelan Intelligence In Pre-Dawn Raid

Two days after Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido's "government-in-waiting" forcibly took possession of three diplomatic facilities in the United States with the blessing of Washington, and following what many observers speculate are a series of US aggressive maneuvers paving the way for military intervention, Maduro's security forces have begun arresting members of Guaido's staff.

According to Reuters Venezuelan intelligence agents have arrested and detained Guaido's own chief of staff, Roberto Marrero, as well as opposition legislator Sergio Vergara.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump, a word of observation; when one hires the geopolitical and military equivalent of the Keystone cops, what one gets at the end of the day... is "Keystone Cop results"; that is everything you didn't want from such an intervention, and nothing you do.

It appears that everything that could have gone wrong with your point man in Venezuela has, and is about continue to go wrong henceforward.

Let me ask; is the US State Department still creating foreign policy by throwing darts at a dart board, in some dank basement no one in the bowels of DC wants to visit, ever?!?

Perhaps, sir, it just might be time to change that policy, to something which one could at least, on the outside, be characterized as "cohesive, moral, and prudent"?!?

Because, Mr. President, this is precisely the polar opposite of how these numb-brain actions of Guido and his goons, appear to both the Venezuelan officials, and the rest of the world.

IF any of this is getting livestreamed to Moscow, Putin is laughing his head off, amazed at the level of stupidity and arrogance these "Guidoistas" have demonstrated; and of course, these are the guys the White House is backing!!

Mr. President, it appears that US foreign policy in Venezuela has resulted, so far, in an abominable epic fail; time to cut your losses (which you used to know how to do, before you became the President), and leave.

Ukraine's president has ordered new sanctions against Russian companies and individuals involved in construction and other activities in Crimea.

Individuals involved in staging local elections in areas of eastern Ukraine controlled by pro-Russia separatists were also targeted. Russia has thrown its weight behind the separatists.

US Duplicity over Golan Demolishes Posturing on Crimea

In a controversial snub to international law, the United States signaled last week that it is moving to officially recognize the Golan Heights as part of Israeli territory. If the US does so, then it forfeits any moral authority to sanction Russia over allegations of “annexing Crimea”.

In its annual US State Department report, the section dealing with the Golan Heights reportedly refers to the contested area as “Israeli-controlled”, not “Israeli-occupied”. The change in wording deviates from United Nations resolutions and international norm which use the term “Israeli-occupied” to designate the land Israel annexed from Syria following the 1967 Six Day War.
