How GMO Seeds and Monsanto /Bayer’s “RoundUp” Are Driving US Policy in Venezuela

As the political crisis in Venezuela has unfolded, much has been said about the Trump administration’s clear interest in the privatization and exploitation of Venezuela’s oil reserves, the largest in the world, by American oil giants like Chevron and ExxonMobil.

Yet the influence of another notorious American company, Monsanto — now a subsidiary of Bayer — has gone largely unmentioned.

While numerous other Latin American nations have become a “free for all” for the biotech company and its affiliates, Venezuela has been one of the few countries to fight Monsanto and other international agrochemical giants and win. However, since that victory — which was won under Chavista rule — the U.S.-backed Venezuelan opposition has been working to undo it.

As Guaido's popularity in Venezuela begins to dwindle, what's next for the opposition?

Since he first stood on a stage Jan. 23 and announced he was seizing the presidency from Nicolas Maduro, Juan Guaido, the 35-year-old head of Venezuela's Congress, has embodied hope for change. With the backing of the U.S. and more than 50 other nations and the adoration of millions he made the country believe his slogan "vamos bien" we're doing well.

But last week's failed military uprising and a spate of violent but fruitless demonstrations have some wondering if Guaido, and the opposition at large, have what it takes to oust Maduro and end 20 years of single-party rule. Suddenly "vamos bien" is becoming harder for some to utter.

1,000 Israeli Soldiers To Arrive in Honduras to Train Troops, Police on Border Protection

Honduras will receive 1,000 Israeli soldiers to train the country's army for border protection, fight against drug trafficking, investigation, and counterterrorism.

A multilateral military treaty between Honduras, Israel, and the United States will see the deployment of 1000 Israeli soldiers at Honduras. They will train the Armed Forces of Honduras (FFAA) and National Police (PN).

The main mission of the troops is to train for border protection to stop migrants fleeing Honduras to the U.S., especially children.

This would be the second time that Honduras is allowing foreign military personnel in the territory and the first time in Israel’s history to send troops abroad.

Venezuelan strongman Nicolás Maduro is partnering with Iran to establish a beachhead for terrorist groups in the Western Hemisphere, Vice President Mike Pence warned Tuesday.

“The Iranian regime has been working with Venezuela’s corrupt dictatorship to establish a safe haven for its terrorist proxies,” Pence said in an address before the Council of the Americas.

Support For Guaido Weakens As Weary Venezuelans Tire Of Violent Clashes

After a week of street demonstrations that left four dead and hundreds injured, the Venezuelan people are growing weary of opposition leader Juan Guaido's attempts to win military support for an ant-Maduro insurrection.

And that weariness started to show this weekend, when many questioned the wisdom of returning to the streets on Saturday when Guaido called for another day of street protests, according to the FT. On Twitter, many of Guaido's supporters slammed him for offering up the Venezuelan people as "cannon fodder."

Perhaps sensing the waning support for his campaign, Guaido told the BBC in an interview Monday that he was considering asking the US for support in the form of a boots-on-the-ground military intervention. Speaking to the BBC's Nick Bryant, he said he would "evaluate all options" to finally depose Maduro, while the US has hinted that it "all options are still on the table," hinting that an invasion of Venezuela remained a possibility.

US Vice President Mike Pence is set to offer on Tuesday new incentives to Venezuela's military to turn against President Nicolas Maduro, Reuters reported Monday, citing a senior administration official.

In a speech to the Americas Society at the US Department of State, Pence will also warn that Washington could soon sanction 25 additional magistrates on the Venezuelan supreme court, Reuters reported, citing the official on condition of anonymity.

In addition, the US vice president will also offer assistance for refugees who have fled Venezuela and an economic aid package on a political transition, according to Reuters.

Venezuela Launches Criminal Action Against 7 Opp. Politicians After Failed Coup

Venezuela's Supreme Court has opened a criminal action against seven opposition politicians for alleged treason and rebellion, the court said in a statement.

The Supreme Court said in a statement that the politicians Henry Ramos Allup, Luis Florido, Marianela Magallanes, José Simón Calzadilla, Américo De Grazia, and Richard Blanco, as well as Andrés Velázquez were accused by the attorney general for the alleged crimes of "treason, conspiracy, instigation of insurrection, military rebellion, conspiracy to commit a crime, usurpation of functions, and public incitement to disobedience".

Some of the accused politicians appeared alongside opposition leader Juan Guaido during the failed military coup on 30 April outside the Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda Air Base.

Guaido blames coup backers for ‘failing to follow through’ in Venezuela

US-backed Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido blames “people who failed to follow through” for the demise of last week’s attempt to overthrow President Nicolas Maduro’s government – but believes there’s still hope.

“There were people who failed to follow through,” Guaido told AFP on Monday, but “it doesn’t mean that they won’t do it soon.” The self-appointed interim president didn’t specify who his backers were, but they aren’t the only ones he has blamed for Maduro’s refusal to quietly go away.

CNN Falsely Claims Venezuela’s Guaido Was Elected President in January

Continuing to try to advance the US narrative that Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido is the “duly elected” president, CNN went to the trouble on Sunday afternoon of inventing an entire election to base this around.

In the CNN report, they declared “pressure is mounting on Maduro to step down, following elections in January in which voters chose opposition leader Juan Guaido over him for president.” There was no election in January.

In reality, Venezuela’s presidential election was held on May 20, 2018. The opposition boycotted the vote, Maduro won with 67.8% of the vote, while Guaido did not participate at all.

‘Reckless military solution’ in Venezuela unwanted even by Washington – Lavrov after meeting Pompeo

A military intervention of Venezuela would be “catastrophic” and it’s understood not only in Europe and Latin America but also in Washington, Russian FM Sergey Lavrov said after a meeting with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

“I don’t see any supporters of a reckless military solution,” in Venezuela either among Latin American countries, Europe or the US, Lavrov said speaking in Rovaniemi, Finland on Monday. A foreign military intervention of Venezuela would be “catastrophic,” the foreign minister said, adding that “everybody understands this.” He expressed hope that the use of force will be averted.

White House Divided On Venezuela? Major Crisis In Trump Administration

A recent publication by The Hill newspaper claims that the events in Venezuela were a challenge for the administration of US President Donald Trump.

According to the article, the US leader and his National Security adviser, John Bolton, developed a tense relationship due to divergences of opinion about a possible military intervention in Venezuela.

The author cites the example in which Trump claimed that US influence on the formation of foreign state institutions ended, calling for the end of the war in Afghanistan and the withdrawal of troops from Syria. In contrast, Bolton tries to persuade the country’s leader to use force.

For Paul Pozner, an expert on Venezuelan affairs at Clark University, Trump prefers to join a position that strengthens his position in the US, and interference in Venezuela will have a negative impact on it.

The CITGO-Venezuela Heating Oil Program has helped more than 1.7 million Americans in 25 states and the District of Columbia keep warm since it was launched back in 2005. The program is a partnership between the Venezuelan state oil company Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA), its subsidiary CITGO and Citizens Energy Corporation, a nonprofit organization founded by former US Rep. Joseph P. Pompeo Won’t Promise to Consult Congress Before Attacking Venezuela

Speaking on ABC’s “This Week,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo refused to comment on whether the administration would consult Congress before invading Venezuela, saying “I don’t want to speak to that.”

Pompeo shunned all questions about the role of Congress in a potential Venezuelan war, saying he is confident that President Trump has sufficient authority that whatever he decides will be legal.

This is a serious question constitutionally. Lawmakers note that the power to declare war lies exclusively with Congress. Fresh off of the veto of the Yemen War challenge, there is reason to question if the law matches up to the practical reality of US war-making anymore.

Fake news alert: CNN says Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido 'won election in January'

CNN took the concept of “fake news” to a whole new level with a recent report on Venezuela, in which it claimed that citizens “chose” coup leader Juan Guaido over current president Nicolas Maduro in January “elections.”

In a report on Sunday’s deadly Venezuelan military helicopter crash, CNN wrote that “pressure is mounting” on Maduro to step down “following elections in January in which voters chose opposition leader Juan Guaido over him for president.”

Slight problem there, CNN.

Venezuela did not hold elections in January — and Guaido definitely did not win them. He did, however, try to seize power from Maduro by force in January with US backing — and then again in April. Both coup attempts failed and Maduro remains president with the support of millions of Venezuelans who still back him.

Lavrov slams US actions towards Venezuela ahead of Pompeo talks

The US is running an unprecedented campaign to oust legitimate Venezuelan authorities, the Russian Foreign Minister said. He noted it’s typical of Washington to tell nations they are waging war against that US intentions are good.

“The attempts to force the change of government in Caracas have nothing in common with the democratic process and only undermine the prospects of a political solution,” Sergey Lavrov said, during a media conference with his Venezuelan counterpart Jorge Arreaza in Moscow. He explained that the “unprecedented Washington-led campaign to oust the legitimate government” is “in rude violation of the international law.”

Russia urges US to cancel ‘irresponsible’ plans for regime change in Venezuela

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has condemned Washington’s “unprecedented campaign” and “irresponsible plans” aimed at toppling the legitimate government of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela.

“We see an unprecedented US-led campaign aimed at toppling the lawful authority in Venezuela. We condemn this campaign as a blatant violation of all the international laws secured by the UN Charter," Lavrov said at the beginning of a Sunday meeting with his Venezuelan counterpart Jorge Arreaza in Moscow.

“We call on the Americans and all (the countries) who support them to cancel irresponsible plans and act strictly according to the international legislation, as President (Vladimir) Putin said a couple of days ago in a phone conversation with President (Donald) Trump,” he added.

Lavrov is travelling on Monday to Finland, where he is expected to hold rare face-to-face talks with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

The Venezuelan opposition leader, who proclaimed himself interim president and called on legitimate head of the country Nicolas Maduro to step down, attempted a coup on Tuesday that ended in failure. Meanwhile, US officials have made it clear that all options are “on the table”.

In an interview with the BBC, self-proclaimed Venezuelan leader Juan Guaido stated that it is “responsible to evaluate” the possibility of international intervention when he was asked if he would welcome US military intervention.

"I, as the president in charge of the national parliament, will evaluate all options if necessary”, he told the British broadcaster.

Trump contradicts Bolton, Pompeo on military option against Venezuela

US President Donald Trump has contradicted his national security team on pushing for a military intervention against Venezuela, saying he and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin share the goal of a peaceful end to the crisis in the Central American nation.

"He is not looking at all to get involved in Venezuela, other than he'd like to see something positive happen for Venezuela, and I feel the same way. We want to get some humanitarian aid. Right now people are starving," Trump told reporters on Friday.

Trump's reference to Russia’s hands-off approach towards Venezuela stands in contrast to insistence by his Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that Russia is part of the problem in Caracas. Pompeo claimed earlier last week that President Nicolás Maduro was about to flee Venezuela until Russia persuaded him to stay.

MAJOR: Russia Forms Coalition Of Nations To BLOCK U.S Intervention In Venezuela

Russia is creating a group of countries at the United Nations to contain US plans for possible intervention in Venezuela, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Thursday.

Leaked: USA’s Feb 2018 Plan for Coup in Venezuela

A detailed plan from “UNITED STATES SOUTHERN COMMAND” dated “23 FEBRUARY 2018” was issued with the title “PLAN TO OVERTHROW THE VENEZUELAN DICTATORSHIP ‘MASTERSTROKE’” and is here presented complete.

This document was personally signed by Admiral Kurt W. Tidd, who was the Commander (the chief), at SOUTHCOM, and he was thus the top U.S. military official handling Venezuela. But this was far more than just a military plan. It was comprehensive — directing military, diplomatic, and propaganda, policies — regarding the Trump Administration’s planned “Overthrow” of Venezuela’s Government. His plan has since guided the Administration’s entire operation, including “the capacities of the psychological war,” regarding Venezuela.

Pentagon Setting Military Options for Attacking VenezuelaTop officials hold closed-door meeting on potential attack

Having cancelled his Europe trip because of ongoing planning on Venezuela, Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan held closed-door meetings at the Pentagon on Friday with John Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Exact details of the meeting are not being made public, and the State Department didn’t even list the meeting as having taken place. Administration officials, however, said the focus was on discussing various military options for a US invasion of Venezuela.

Perennial hawk John Bolton seems to be salivating at the possibility of the US invading the major South American country, while Pompeo has been telling the press at every opportunity that if the US decides an attack is required “that’s what the United States will do.”

Shanahan continues to brag about the good intelligence the US has on the situation in Venezuela, a claim which must be questioned after this week’s failed coup.

Webmaster's Commentary:

That last paragraph holds a vital clue; if there was "solid intelligence" on Venezuela, then why did last week's coup attempt fizzle and fail so horrifically?!?

The Venezuelan people have never done anything to us, except to be sitting on the world's premier oil reserves.

And here's the runup: demonization, destabilization; regime change, and Brazil's oil only to be sold in US dollars.

Wash; rinse; repeat; the pattern is painfully clear by now.

Trump, Putin Speak on Phone for Over an HourWhite House: Primary focus of talks was Venezuela

President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke on the phone for over an hour on Friday, a significant occurrence for an administration that has been very reticent to engage in dialogues with Russia.

According to White House officials, the focus of the talks was on Venezuela, with Trump making it clear that the “United States stands with the people of Venezuela,” which of course means regime change.

Russia obviously would’ve been aware of that position already, since we’re just days out from a failed US-backed coup in Venezuela. It’s not clear what specifics would have been focused on, but some US officials were blaming Russia for the coup’s failure, which may have been a topic of discussion.

Russia has been backing the Maduro government in Venezuela, while the US has long sought regime change, and since January has recognized the nation’s opposition leader as the rightful president.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And I will be willing to bet one thing; both Putin and Trump probably spoke in English, with no translator needed, as Putin's English is just as polished as is his German.

On the issues of both Venezuela and North Korea, President Trump appears to be consistently tone-deaf to any suggestions any US flexibility on foreign policy.

This is profoundly unfortunate, because more and more, the optics of President Trump's foreign policy appear to make him both the "Thug in Chief", and "Merchant of Death in Chief", in his hawking of American weaponry to countries like Saudi Arabia (which are being used, BTW, in genocidal Crimes against Humanity in Yemen).

Behold The Breathtaking Weakness Of The Empire!

Authored by The Saker,

The Empire has suffered painful defeats in Afghanistan and Iraq, but one has to admit that these are “tough” countries to crack. The Empire also appears to have lost control of Libya, but that is another complex country which is very hard to control. We also saw all the pathetic huffing and puffing with the DPRK. But, let’s be honest, the USA never stood a chance to bully the DPRK into submission, nevermind invading or regime-changing it. Syria was much weaker, but here Russia, Iran and Hezbollah did a world class job of repelling all the AngloZionist attacks, political and military. Besides, I for one will never blame Trump for not listening to Bolton and not triggering WWIII over Syria (yet?)

But Venezuela?!

Webmaster's Commentary:

It has taken an enormously long time for people who (very much like me) who, from birth, were force-fed the psychologically poisonous geopolitical pablum, that this country, the Unhinged, Surveilled State of Amerika, never did any harm, and was the "poster child" for sweet reasonable relationships with almost all other countries on the planet, except those who were very, very bad,and therefore had to be "punished" by a "right makes right" foreign policy.

I have had innumerable "Buddha on the road" moments in these last 25 years or so, with my sweetheart Mike, and the website, so I have been forced to confront the unavoidable truth, that what we are told about the actions of our country, many times, has utterly no relationship with reality.

When Karl Marx made the observation that all wars are economic in their origin, the facts of history, definitely have proved him correct.

Venezuela is a case in point.

Venezuela has the world's largest proven oil reserves on the planet. Google tells us the following:

"The proven oil reserves in Venezuela are recognized as the largest in the world, totaling 297 billion barrels (4.72×1010 m3) as of 1 January 2014." and includes finds from relatively recent scientific research from the Orinoco Peninsula. Potential Venezuelan oil development, Orinoco Peninsula

As with all of its other misadventures in the 21st century, any US engineered/ attempted "regime change" will be about creating a more "US-Centric Government; controlling who buys the oil; and insure that it is sold only in US dollars.

With oil prices falling as dramatically as they have, in light of the reality that Venezuela's economy never diversified much from oil production, the country has suffered intensely economically, compounding the problems created by massive US sanctions against it.

Economic Sanctions as
Collective Punishment:The Case of Venezuela

So now, that the "CU-Cu KA'CHOO!" has failed, and I might add, miserably, what next for this hapless country, whose citizens are looking just to survive?!?

Regime change?!? An infusion of privately funded mercs, to destabilize it, as Erik Prince has pitched, so that Maduro is incapable of wielding any more political or economic authority?!?

And many times people hired by these "mercs for hire" groups, have had their conscience surgically removed, before signing up for such duties; they view their jobs as "kill first, ask questions later."

Are those the "moral optics" of this administration?!? Sorry, Mr. President: but after the continuing genocide with which the US is assisting Saudi Arabia in committing, I needed to ask.

That Elliott Abrams so catastrophically blinked and missed here, and was ultimately unable to make this happen, at the end of the day, should be reason enough for Trump sacking him immediately, although I would not bet that this will happen any time soon.

We have an interesting story, datelined today, as follows; US government still pondering military options in Venezuela

Mr. President, I would counsel extreme caution here; the world knows, full well, what the US government is up to.

This is not 1953, when the American government could destabilize the Iranian government, lie about it conveniently, and no one would really notice, except for those Iranians who got ground down to a pulp, and tortured by the Shah's Secret Service, SAVAK Origins: Iran's SAVAK.

Mr. President: I must strongly caution you: a military strike against Venezuela would be one of the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly idiotic things you could order do be done right now.

I am watching the FAUX crawl, and the title is "Chaos in Venezuela"; and yet, people seem to be crossing a bridge not with any discernible sense of urgency, which leads me to believe that there are more US military actions to come.

I understand that Venezuela's oil wealth is something which those in the Bowels of Power in DC would love to control; but the next time you set up a US "ringer" to challenge Maduro, make that person at least somewhat palatable to the people of Venezuela.

These people have a very strong sense of their history and their heritage; if there is a military decap strike against Caracas, the people are going to fight any invading army with their very lives.

And as a final caveat, President Trump; the US military tends to do quite a great deal better with operations in the desert, rather than in the jungle; and outside of Venezuela's main cities, you have a ton of jungle. Have someone you trust check it out for you, and crunch the numbers.

And BTW; you are welcome!!

Just Business: Brazil Cuts Flow of Money to Venezuela

The agreement to print money for Venezuela was not brokered directly between Venezuela and Brazil's respective mints, but rather subcontracted via an unnamed multinational company.

Venezuela: US Coup Will Go Nowhere

This support for the ongoing coup attempt in Venezuela should stun no one. This comes as Guaido keeps calling for a military coup against the government of President Nicolas Maduro that so far has gone nowhere. The US Vice President's statement of support for the coup plot has also been echoed by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and national security adviser John Bolton - who else?

It seems the regime-change cult was well prepared for this worsening crisis in its backyard. One day before Guaido's ceremony, on January 22, Vice President Mike Pence used a video address to directly urge Venezuelans to go to the streets to show support for the self-proclaimed president: “We stand with you, and we will stay with you until democracy is restored and you reclaim your birthright of Libertad,” Pence said in his speech.

Both Pence and Pompeo say the US supports the Venezuelan people. In reality, however, they refuse to acknowledge that Maduro was elected by the Venezuelan people.

Venezuela’s Maduro Jogs with Military at Dawn: ‘Time Has Come to Fight’

Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro told his military on Thursday that the “time has come to fight” against the U.S.-backed opposition, days after opposition leader Juan Guaidó announced the desertion of various military personnel from the regime.

Addressing soldiers at the National Armed Forces Military Academy in Fort Tiuna, the socialist dictator insisted he retains the widespread support of his armed forces, despite the partial military uprising against him.

US Mulls Backing Guaido's Venezuelan Opposition With ‘Influx of Cash’ – Report

This comes amid the ongoing political standoff in Venezuela, which escalated earlier this week when the country’s opposition leader Juan Guaido, who proclaimed himself president earlier this year, unsuccessfully tried to initiate a coup to overthrow the government of President Nicolas Maduro.

The Trump administration wants to find a way to financially support Venezuelan opposition leader and self-proclaimed interim president Juan Guaido with an “influx of cash”, CNN cited unnamed White House sources as saying.

“They are trying to figure out how do you help the interim government be able to provide paychecks, that kind of stuff, so that there is an ability to say, ‘hey we are a functioning government’. That would include payments to various people, including those in the military,” one source said.

Iran condemns US 'coup attempt' in Venezuela, warns against any military action

Iran has condemned the recent attempts by the United States to stage a coup against the legitimate government of President Nicolas Maduro, who has been under pressure from US-backed opposition leader Juan Guaido to step down.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi warned Washington against any type of meddling in Venezuela, after Caracas announced that it had foiled an attempt by a number of military defectors to overthrow Maduro.

"The Islamic Republic condemns US attempts to stage a coup or any other type of military action in Venezuela," Mousavi said on Thursday night.

The remarks came after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan and National Security Adviser John Bolton expressed full support for the opposition and announced that the US military was ready to join their anti-Maduro push.

Behold the breathtaking weakness of the Empire!

Pompeo Drops Another Whopper

Having Admitted to “Lying” and “Cheating” while CIA Director, Pompeo Drops Another Whopper after Failed Venezuelan Coup

The lack of scrutiny given by the mainstream media to Bolton and Pompeo’s claims is yet another troubling sign of the transformation of many mainstream media outlets into faithful government stenographers.

Just a week after the former CIA director and now secretary of state admitted that the agency prior to and under his direction “lied,” “cheated” and “stole,” Mike Pompeo has delivered another claim that, despite his recent admission of dishonesty, has been regurgitated with little scrutiny by a variety of media outlets.

How an Elaborate Plan to Topple Venezuela’s President Went Wrong

In the effort to topple Nicolás Maduro, Colombia’s ambassador to the United States once told me, the military men propping up Venezuela’s authoritarian president are like chess pieces.

If they defect from the regime, “you lose that chess piece,” Francisco Santos explained. “They work better from the inside.”

As Tuesday, April 30, began, the United States and its allies thought they finally had checkmate, after months of building up the opposition leader Juan Guaidó as Venezuela’s legitimate president and recruiting more than 50 nations to their cause.

By the end of the day, the board had been flipped upside down, pieces were scattered everywhere, and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was on CNN blaming the kingmakers, Russia and Cuba, for sabotaging the game.

Pompeo Backpedals on US Claims That Venezuelan Officials Ready to Abandon Maduro

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in an interview said top Venezuelan officials have not been as clear about abandoning President Nicolas Maduro as Trump administration officials had alleged just 24 hours ago.

US National Security Adviser John Bolton on Tuesday claimed that Venezuela’s Defence Minister Vladimir Padrino, Presidential Guard Commander Rafael Hernandez Dala and Supreme Court Chief Judge Maikel Moreno had pledged to support the opposition's attempted coup.

"They made that very clear to other members of the opposition. And today they haven’t indicated that as clearly," Pompeo told NBC News on Wednesday.

Russia has NUKES in Venezuela? Fox News seemingly misrepresents guest’s claim

If there was a clickbait headline competition, Fox News has just produced one that could easily win it. The network said one of its guests believes Russia has nuclear missiles in Venezuela, and presumably no one but him noticed.

To be clear, there are no Russian nukes in Venezuela, as far as any open evidence or official statements go. Representative Mario Diaz-Balart of Florida, whose appearance on Tucker Carlson Tonight on Tuesday sparked the flashy headline, doesn’t appear to believe there are any either. But that doesn’t stop a really determined traffic-hungry editor from insinuating the opposite.

Nikki Haley Unloads on Ilhan Omar For Claiming America is ‘Bullying’ Venezuelan Dictator

Former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley slammed Rep. Ilhan Omar after the Minnesota Democrat blamed the current humanitarian crisis in Venezuela on America.

Omar claimed “policies that we [America] have put in place” are to blame for the crisis, adding that “bullying” Nicolas Maduro, the brutal Venezuelan dictator, “does not help.”

“A lot of the policies that we have put in place has kind of helped lead the devastation in Venezuela,” Omar alleged. “And we’ve sort of set the stage for where we’re arriving today.”

“This particular bullying and the use of sanctions to eventually intervene and make regime change really does not help the people of countries like Venezuela, and it certainly does not help and is not in the interest of the United States,” she added.

Trump Warns Russia to ‘Get Out’ of Venezuela

President Trump suggested on Wednesday that his administration had warned the Russian government to stay out of Venezuela after two Russian planes carrying military personnel arrived in Caracas this week, a move that places another significant obstacle in the White House’s slow-moving effort to oust President Nicolás Maduro.

During an Oval Office meeting with Fabiana Rosales, the wife of Juan Guaidó, the Venezuelan National Assembly politician recognized by the Trump administration and 50 other countries as the rightful interim president, Mr. Trump said that Russia needed to see its way out of the conflict.

“Russia has to get out. What’s your next question?” Mr. Trump told reporters.

In what Venezuelan government officials claimed was an attempt to provide cover for the failure of Tuesday’s U.S.-backed coup attempt to gain any traction, Pompeo claimed that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro had been ready to flee to Havana, Cuba amid the early morning chaos of Tuesday’s failed military uprising, but had been convinced to stay by the Russian government. Venezuela: Guaidó’s Botched Coup – What Does it Mean and What's Next?

Just before dawn on 30 April, the Venezuelan opposition launched yet another attempt at a military coup. By the end of the day, the botched coup attempt seemed to have failed, with one of its leaders seeking refuge in the Spanish embassy, 25 of the soldiers involved requesting asylum at the Brazilian embassy and Juan Guaidó in hiding or on the run.

The coup started at 5.46 am with a video message by Guaidó, who proclaimed himself president in charge on 24 January at a street rally, but who has not moved an inch closer to Miraflores Palace since. In the video, he appeared outside La Carlota military airbase in the east of Caracas, together with a small group of army soldiers. Also present was Leopoldo López, the opposition leader under house arrest for his role in the deadly guarimba riots of 2014. Apparently, he had been released by the SEBIN intelligence officers in charge of guarding him.

Bolton Pushes Military Option for Venezuela as Trump, Pentagon Hesitate

The crisis in Venezuela escalated this week after opposition leader Juan Guaido announced the start of the "final phase" of the operation to overthrow the Maduro government and called on the country's military to join the opposition.

US officials have conflicting opinions on how to handle the Venezuelan crisis, with at least one heated exchange taking place last week between members of National Security Advisor John Bolton's staff and the Pentagon on the supposed lack of military options.

Speaking to the Washington Post, unnamed officials recalled a clash between Bolton's staff and Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Paul J. Selva, with members of the Bolton camp repeatedly interrupting Selva during a briefing in which the general, speaking for the military, advised against escalating the situation in the Latin American country.

Russian and US Positions on Venezuelan Crisis are Incompatible - Lavrov

On Wednesday, the Russian foreign minister spoke to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, telling the top US diplomat that Washington's interference in Venezuela's affairs was a destructive approach fraught with "the most serious consequences."

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov urged the United States to refrain from returning to the imperious 'Monroe Doctrine' in its relations with Venezuela, and indicated that while the Russian and US positions on the crisis in the Latin American country remain incompatible, dialogue must continue.

"We agreed to maintain contacts, including on Venezuela, but I don't see a way to reconcile our positions — ours, on the one hand, which is based on the UN Charter and the principles and norms of international law, and that of the United States, on the other, in which Washington assigns the acting president of another country," Lavrov said, speaking to reporters in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Thursday.

Cuba denies military support for Venezuelan leader but says broader cooperation would be 'totally legitimate' while US invokes the Monroe Doctrine

President Donald Trump's national security adviser said Wednesday that the U.S. deems the uprising in Venezuela to be a Western affair and outside actors, including Cuban forces, must leave the South American country immediately.

Carlos Fernández de Cossío, Cuba's director-general of US affairs, said in Washington that the US is falsely accusing his country of having more than 20,000 troops and intelligence agents in Venezuela.

De Cossío said there are roughly 20,000 Cubans in Venezuela but virtually all are medical workers.

'There are no troops,' he said in English. 'Cuba does not participate in military operations nor in security operations in Venezuela.'

Meanwhile, John Bolton told White House reporters on Wednesday morning that Trump is returning to the Monroe Doctrine and will be exerting its influence to stabilize Venezuela.

'We've made it very clear that the Monroe Doctrine is alive in this administration. We expect foreign influences to depart,' Bolton said.

The Making of Juan Guaidó: US Regime-Change Laboratory Created Venezuela’s Coup Leader

Before the fateful date of Jan. 22, fewer than 1-in-5 Venezuelans had heard of Juan Guaidó. Even in his own party, Guaidó had been a mid-level figure in the opposition-dominated National Assembly, which is now held under contempt according to Venezuela’s constitution.

But after a single phone call from from U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, Guaidó proclaimed himself as president of Venezuela. Anointed as the leader of his country by Washington, a previously unknown political bottom dweller was vaulted onto the international stage as the U.S.-selected leader of the nation with the world’s largest oil reserves.

The US immediately declared its public support for the coup attempt at the highest level and once again threatened the country’s legitimate government with military action. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called the actions of Guaido and his armed supporters a “quest for freedom and democracy”.

Ron Paul Warns: "Hapless" Guaido Now "Worth More Dead Than Alive" To Washington's Venezuelan Coup-Creators

Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido failed to kick-start a military uprising on Tuesday. After this fizzle, RT reports that his life may be in danger from his own CIA backers, the director of the Ron Paul Institute argued in a debate.

Daniel McAdams and Ron Paul, the former libertarian representative from Texas, discussed the repeated attempts by Guaido to oust Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro with the backing from the US government. Despite all the efforts, Maduro remains in power, supported by many Venezuelans and in control of its military and police forces.

Paul said he was concerned that the Latin American country may be plunged into large-scale violence by some provocation.

“The big danger is a hard war breaking out. I’d still bet it won’t be too bad, with thousands of troops moving. But it could be a guerrilla war or something like that. If there is a false flag or some important official on either side gets killed, you can’t tell what might happen,” he said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Yes... but desperation on the cusp of madness.

With Russian troops having been on Venezuelan soil for some time, now, what is the plan?!? War with Russia over Venezuela (over control of its vast oil reserves?!?)

Faux is showing, live, the hearings on the Barr report this morning, with nary a word about Venezuela. It's about the bottom of the hour here, so I will be curious if it actually gets any air time at all this morning. OK, I watched this from the bottom half of the hour; and still no word on Venezuela. They are going right back, top of the hour, to The Barr Hearings.

The only comment from Regime Changer in Chief, Elliott Abrams yesterday, was as follows:

U.S. envoy says top Venezuelan officials negotiated to help restore order Elliott Abrams went on to state that:

"U.S. envoy for Venezuela Elliott Abrams said on Tuesday opposition-led protests in Caracas were part of a broader effort negotiated with three senior officials in President Nicolas Maduro’s government to restore constitutional order.

Abrams, speaking to reporters at the State Department, said the talks involved Venezuela’s Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino, Supreme Court chief justice Maikel Moreno and presidential guard commander Ivan Rafael Hernandez Dela about restoring democracy in the country.

“There have been some interesting negotiations among Venezuelans inside the regime and outside the regime about returning to the constitution,” Abrams said. “They negotiated for a long time the means of restoring democracy but it seems that today they are not going forward,” he added."

So I have to wonder, since names were named in this article, whether those three actually did communicate with Abrams... or did not.

And notice how Abrams is shifting gears wildly, by throwing the lack of success of the coup, on these Venezuelans, Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino, Supreme Court chief justice Maikel Moreno and presidential guard commander Ivan Rafael Hernandez Dela rather than upon himself, and the Those in the Bowels of Power in DC who concocted this poison stew of lies?!?

Guaido is now what those with a little bit of intelligence business savvy, understand to be a "live liability" for the CIA/FBI/and whatever other intel ops who convinced President Trump that this could actually work.

And as for Abrams, he has just handed President Trump his very own "Bay of Pigs" debacle here, in attempting to foment "regime change" with a population which would not have it, and have chosen to stay loyal to Maduro.

And as for Abram's future in regime change, I think that, unless he had intense "defense in depth" planning, and was placing those into effect, if this went "mammary glands vertical" a plan B, C, D, E, and F, he is going to be handed his hat by Trump, who is going to look for someone who can actually do what Abrams told him he could do.

Who knows, maybe Erik Prince's timing was perfect for getting back in good graces with the White House when he pitched sending his own mercs into Venezuela, to destabilize it to the point of regime change?!?

And I have to suspect, by his rantings and ravings, both in public and on Twitter, that President Trump had his book "The Art of the Deal" completely ghostwritten, as I see zero signs of true negotiations, in either his personality, or his decision making, which, at the moment, can be described as both utter chaos, and no closer to achieving a stable, peaceful world than when he came into office.

To say this is a profound disappointment for many of us, who at the beginning of his campaign, really believed that he just might be able to pull this off, is akin to saying "the SS Titanic took on a little ice,and ultimately became the "US Trumptanic"

And the real question Americans need to ask, is why, at the end of the day, are our Presidential candidates so lousy?!? The answer is, because by the time they are "thrown at the Public", in many large, theatrical Kabuki-style events, they have had to be vetted by the Deep State; the Military Industrial Complex; and the corporations who contribute to both parties luxuriously to make sure that nothing changes in the ways they do business.

And here's companion piece, courtesy of Zero Hedge, and we ALL could see this coming: Maduro declares victory over attempted coup,, followed by the following: "Update (7:16 am ET): Here we go again...

Now that the monthslong simmering rebellion against Maduro has exploded into a full-fledged uprising - one that's in danger of being brutally suppressed by the Maduro regime - it's time for the US to revive its threats of military intervention with the added subtext of 'this time, we mean it'.

After footage from yesterday's riots showed regime tanks brutally crushing opposition supporters, Mike Pompeo appeared on Fox Business this morning and said that the US hasn't ruled out military intervention.

U.S. SECRETARY OF STATE POMPEO SAYS MILITARY ACTION IN VENEZUELA IS POSSIBLE 'IF THAT'S WHAT'S REQUIRED', WOULD PREFER PEACEFUL TRANSITION -FOX BUSINESS INTERVIEW
His comments come as supporters of the regime and opposition prepare to take to the streets for another wave of massive demonstrations on Wednesday."

IF Pompeo doesn't understand that this "regime change" movement lost its window yesterday, he doesn't deserve to be Secretary of State, period, end of discussion.

Coup fizzles? Guaido’s mentor takes refuge in Chilean embassy as 25 military seek asylum in Brazil’s

Venezuelan opposition figure Leopoldo Lopez has sought refuge in Chile’s embassy in Caracas, while at least 25 pro-Juan Guaido troops asked Brazil for refuge. The news all but points to the failure of the US-backed coup attempt.

Lopez had been under house arrest since 2017, but was seen at the side of Guaido – who had declared himself “interim president” of Venezuela in January – on Tuesday morning, as supporters of the US-backed opposition sought to take control of Caracas by force. At least 50 people were injured and 11 arrested during the unrest on Tuesday.

By the afternoon, however, Chilean Foreign Minister Roberto Ampuero tweeted that Lopez, his wife Lilian Tintori, and their daughter were “guests” of the Chilean diplomatic mission in Caracas, adding that “Chile reaffirms commitment to Venezuelan democrats.”

Police Arrive at Venezuelan Embassy in Washington With Handcuffs, Block Entrance

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - US law enforcement officials blocked off the entrance of the Venezuelan Embassy in Washington on Tuesday amid ongoing protests over the handling of the crisis in the Latin American country, a Sputnik correspondent reported from the embassy.

About 30 policemen with handcuffs arrived at the Venezuelan Embassy, which has been occupied by activists for more than two weeks, blocking the entrance from 30th Street.

The goal of the protesters is to prevent US-backed opposition figure Juan Guaido and his so-called government from taking possession of the building.

he situation in front of the embassy has been exacerbated amid tensions in the Venezuelan capital Caracas, where Juan Guaido released a video on Tuesday morning with a call on the country's military to join in the final stage of his so-called "Operation Freedom" from the La Carlota military base with the goal of ending the “usurpation of power” by President Maduro.

Bolton: All Options Are on the Table Regarding Venezuela

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza said earlier in the day that the United States had signed off on an attempted coup in Venezuela by calling on the country's armed forces to support the opposition parliament.

During a speech at the White House, US National Security Adviser John Bolton said that all options were on the table regarding the current situation in Venezuela.

Venezuela Coup? "Live Fire" Exchanged Outside Contested Air Base, Armored Car Plows Into Protesters

update 5: As predicted, what Guaido dubbed “Operation Liberty” — a full on coup attempt for which he appealed for Venezuela's military to rise up against Maduro — appears to have failed to achieve significant momentum, given Caracas officials are taking to the air waves to declare the "mediocre" coup attempt successfully put down.

“A mediocre coup d'etat attempt has failed,” said defense minister Vladimir Padrino on a state radio broadcast Tuesday afternoon, following prior statements saying he was ready put down the rebellion by force. And in a television appearance Padrino further called the day's events "ridiculous".

Meanwhile national security advisor John Bolton has stated this is "not a coup" given that the US already sees opposition leader Juan Guaido as the country's president. Bolton said of the rapidly unfolding and increasingly violent events that "it is not a coup for Juan Guaido to try and take command of the Venezuelan military."

Webmaster's Commentary:

No, Mr. President: this country does NOT stand for the Freedom of the Venezuelan people; it stands for controlling their massive oil reserves, and insuring that Venezuela's oil will only be sold for US dollars.

I have heard the soundbite "Everything is on the table", floated as a description of further potential ways for the US to get Maduro out of power, whatever they may be.

War against Venezuela for its oil?!?

Right now, I would not bet against it.

But were I in the Pentagon "war room", I would have to ask; "If we invade, what will Russia, which already has troops in position, decide to do?"

This could get ugly, quickly, and in ways for which the US government perhaps has not either thought through, or didn't consider: and that, folks, is what concerns me most.

Ex-Peru President Kills Himself as Police Try to Arrest Him

Former Peruvian President Alan García shot himself in the head and died Wednesday moments after police arrived at his home to arrest him on corruption allegations in Latin America’s largest graft probe.

President Martin Vizcarra announced the death on Twitter, saying that doctors in the capital city of Lima performed emergency surgery and tried three times to resuscitate Garcia.

It was a shocking end for a man who twice ruled Peru before becoming ensnared more recently in the corruption scandal involving the construction giant Odebrecht. The scandal has touched nearly every living former president.

When they arrived, police found García on the second floor of his home, a leafy mansion in the city’s Miraflores district. He asked for a moment to call his lawyer, entered a bedroom and closed the door behind him, Interior Minister Carlos Morán said.

Please remember, as all of the presstitutes have been given their orders to present this to the public as a "completely indigenous protest", when it has all the earmarks of a US-led psych-ops.

Juan Guaido, Designated US puppet in Venezuela
The Making of Juan Guaido: how the US "Regime change" Laboratory created Venezuela coup leader

The article goes on to state: "Before the fateful day of January 22, fewer than one in five Venezuelans had heard of Juan Guaidó. Only a few months ago, the 35-year-old was an obscure character in a politically marginal far-right group closely associated with gruesome acts of street violence. Even in his own party, Guaidó had been a mid-level figure in the opposition-dominated National Assembly, which is now held under contempt according to Venezuela’s constitution.

But after a single phone call from US Vice President Mike Pence, Guaidó proclaimed himself as president of Venezuela. Anointed as the leader of his country by Washington, a previously unknown political bottom dweller was vaulted onto the international stage as the US-selected leader of the nation with the world’s largest oil reserves."

Echoing the Washington consensus, the New York Times editorial board hailed Guaidó as a “credible rival” to Maduro with a “refreshing style and vision of taking the country forward.” The Bloomberg News editorial board applauded him for seeking “restoration of democracy” and the Wall Street Journal declared him “a new democratic leader.” Meanwhile, Canada, numerous European nations, Israel, and the bloc of right-wing Latin American governments known as the Lima Group recognized Guaidó as the legitimate leader of Venezuela"

So, that is what we have here in Guaido; a guy schooled in "regime change", just so those in the bowels of DC ultimately control Venezuela's oil, and the method of payment for that oil, if in fact, this "Cu Cu KaCHOO" is successful.

But please remember the following; Russia has troops on the ground in Venezuela; the US came with too little too late, to prevent them from being there, at Maduro's invitation. So one has to wonder, just what their orders are?!? To keep Maduro and his family safe at all costs, and at all times??!?

One of DC's "supremely self-reinventing lower-octave bottom feeders", John Bolton, has made his statement today, that the Venezuelan people, and its military, "had" to back Guaido, and by doing that, will preserve the Venezuelan Constitution; Bollix and Codswallop, I say!!

This is about the money, and about the oil, in one of the world's most sublimely gifted countries when it comes to reserves. As Google states, "The proven oil reserves in Venezuela are recognized as the largest in the world, totaling 297 billion barrels (4.72×1010 m3) as of 1 January 2014."

Remember how Victoria Nuland bragged about how much money the US spent to get "regime change" in Ukraine?!? United States spent 5 billion dollars to achieve "Regime Change" in Ukraine which, ultimately, proved a stupid thing for it to have done, given the performance of their "anointed Savoir", Poroshenko, in the last election, where he got professionally "creamed" by a Comedian, who just won the Ukrainian election by a huge majority.Volodymyr Zelenskiy wins Ukrainian election by a landslide

How much do you think the US government is willing to spend on "regime change" in Venezuela, to get its hands around that oil?!? Many, many more billions, friends; while our Vets sleep rough in our streets, and US infrastructure is crumbling around us?

Remember; American political system is solely driven by its members' lust for money, to be made off the backs of American working people, or conquering other countries; the situation unfolding in Venezuela proves the truth of that last statement.

Blackwater Founder Calls For 5,000 Mercenaries to Topple Maduro

As if the past months of US push for regime change in Venezuela with officials like Elliott Abrams of Iran-Contra conviction infamy at the helm wasn’t bizarre enough, things just got weirder, as Erik Prince has apparently been pitching a plan around Washington to privatize US coup efforts using his latest Blackwater inspired mercenary empire.

According to Reuters, Prince — the brother of billionaire Education Secretary Betsy DeVos who has over the past years since selling his mired-in-controversy Blackwater group (now Academi) revived his mercenary empire in China in the form of Frontier Services Group (FSG) — intends to “deploy a private army to help topple Venezuela’s socialist president, Nicholas Maduro.”
