Turkey Flips to BRICS while Assad Just Flips off Bibi

There is nothing more frustrating in American politics than discussing Israel. Nothing. It is difficult to maintain a balanced view of the situation when many people are ready to lynch you for putting a word wrong in relation to ‘our greatest ally.’

And like many of the real issues underlying the Culture War between the Overly-Woke and The Deplorables, these ab-reactions are meant to stifle debate rather than discuss uncomfortable and inconvenient truths.

I don’t feel like I have many of the answers as to why Israeli officials act the way they do. Sometimes I get feedback from folks who truly want to engage but more often than not what I just described is what happens.

Are We About To See The Final Battle Of Syria?

Will it be the Last Battle? For three years, Idlib has been the dumping ground for all of Syria’s retreating Islamist militias, the final redoubt of every combatant who has chosen to fight on, rather than surrender to the Syrian army and the Russian air force – and to Hezbollah and, to a far smaller degree, the Iranians.

Brigadier general Suheil al-Hassan, the “Tiger” of Syrian military legend and myth – who can quote the poet Mutanabi by heart but prefers to be compared to Erwin Rommel rather than Bernard Montgomery – will surely take his “Tiger Forces” with him for the final reckoning between the Damascus regime and the Salafist-inspired and western-armed Islamists who dared to try, and very definitely failed, to destroy Bashar al-Assad’s rule.

FINAL VICTORY OVER TERROR NEAR

Syrian President to Armed Forces: Final Victory over Terror Near

President Bashar Assad hailed the achievements of Syrian Armed Forces on the battlefield against foreign-backed militant groups, saying final victory over terrorism is close thanks to their sacrifices.
He made the remarks in a speech published by the Jaish al-Sha’ab (People's Army) magazine on Wednesday in commemoration of the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the national Syrian military, presstv reported.

Assad congratulated Syrian soldiers for “moving from one achievement to another and from one victory to another in the face of the systematic terrorism and its regional and international backers”.

The army, he stated, has managed to foil the “Zionist-American” plot against Syria>>>

How's that fair ?

Gov't Flag Hoisted across Manbij Ahead of Syrian Army's Imminent Arrival

People in the Northern town of Manbij have hoisted government flags in the town, preparing for the Syrian Army troops' imminent arrival, a media outlet reported on Wednesday.
The Arabic-language al-Watan daily quoted local sources as reporting that civilians in Manbij in Northeastern Aleppo have hoisted the government flags across the town, preparing for a warm welcome ceremony as the army is regaining control over the town following talks between the Kurds and Damascus officials two days ago.

Al-Watan said that civilians have prepared banners to welcome the army at the Western entrance of the town where the army is expected to enter Manbij.

Manbij residents have also repaired and reconstructed police stations in the town and along the Aleppo international highway to Manbij to hand over their control to the army forces, al-Watan further said.

Here's Why The U.S. Will Soon Make A Face-Saving Exit From Syria

The Syrian army is conducting its southern campaign with the pacification of the last two percent of the Qunietra province that remains under the control of the “Islamic State” (ISIS) terrorist group. That will free tens of thousands of troops of the Syrian army and its allies from the burden of fighting in the south of the country and will mark a turning point in the seven years of war imposed on the Levant.

The whole of Syria will be liberated from the territorial control of militias and jihadists. What remains of occupied Syria is under the control of two countries: territories held by the US and Turkey in the north. However, these occupations do not seem tenable, particularly now that the Kurds, in control of 23% of Syria, have decided to respond positively to the Syrian President’s call to engage in dialogue or face war.

This means the US cannot stay for much longer in Syria; it will find a face-saving way to leave very soon.

Russian Jamming Poses a Growing Threat to U.S. Troops in Syria

American troops deployed in Syria are increasingly having to defend themselves against Russian jamming devices—electronic attacks with potentially lethal consequences, according to U.S. military officials and analysts.

Officers who have experienced the jamming—known as electronic warfare—say it’s no less dangerous than conventional attacks with bombs and artillery. But they also say it’s allowing U.S. troops a rare opportunity to experience Russian technology in the battlefield and figure out how to defend against it.

Russian Ambassador Tells Israel: We Can’t Force Iran to Leave Syria

Speaking on Israel’s Channel 10 news, Russian Ambassador Anatoly Viktorov told the interviewer that Russia cannot force Iran to withdraw its military from Syria, no matter how many times Israel demands them to.

Israel has been demanding Russian intervention for months, but Iran has ruled out leaving unless Syria tells them to. Russia tried to come up with a compromise where Iranian forces would stay 100 km from the buffer zone, but Israel rejected that as well.

Viktorov told the reporters that Iran’s military presence in Syria “is fully legitimate according to the UN principles and the UN charter.” He added that Russia is “not okay” with any Israeli attacks on Syria, but that it wasn’t up to Russia to prevent them.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Israeli government loves the "big lie" technique, both to exaggerate their own claims, and also to terrify their domestic population.

It will be interesting to see what Israel does regarding Syria after this announcement; but I would not believe that backing off their attacks against Syria will happen any time soon.

US-Turkey to Conduct Joint Patrols in Syria, Pentagon Head Mattis Says

The United States and Turkey will start joint military patrols in Syria in a matter of weeks, US Secretary of Defense James Mattis told reporters on Friday.

"I mean, you got to do the training… I think that we’re talking about weeks," Mattis said. "I don’t know how many. Two, four, six, but I don’t think we’re talking months."

Mattis noted there are already Turkish and US patrols on the ground, but they are separate.

"It’s already happening on opposite sides where the two of the patrols go along, and they get to certain points, they wait for the other one to get there," Mattis said. "If somebody gets there first and then they do recognition signals back and forth and they move onto the next one."

Mattis explained all the conditions for establishing joint patrols are being set for them to go forward, and the Turkish and US militaries have put together all the planning while the training equipment has landed at the Incirlik air base in Turkey.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Apparently, Mattis and Edrogan believe that there is no such thing as Syrian territorial integrity.

And what happens when they run into either Syrian or Russian forces?!?

It looks as though the US and Turkish governments are hell-bent to prevent any possible real peace here.

Putin sends his army chief to Israel, France and Germany for the first time

Never before had Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Chief of Staff of the Russian Armed Forced Valery Gerasimov traveled on a joint tour abroad. Obviously, these two officials play the role of "messengers" who clarify certain issues for Putin-Trump meetings. Yet, why does Gerasimov need to attend meetings in Berlin and Paris, if Germany and France play a secondary military role in Syria?

LEADER OF AL-QAEDA IN SYRIA CONTINUES TO RECEIVE FREE PASS ON YOU TUBE WHILE AMERICANS WHO EXPOSE SYRIAN WAR ARE CENSORED AND BANNED

The following post reveals that as of July 27, 2018, the Saudi cleric leader of al-Nusra Front (al-Qaeda in Syria) Abdullah al-Muhaysini still has his own channel up and running on You Tube. This post is highly important because, not only does it point out that terrorists are being given a free pass by western governments and the Powers That Be in the current age of Internet censorship against western citizens accused of bullying and spreading 'false' news, but it also provides evidence that the leader of al-Qaeda in Syria has been working directly with the White Helmets who are a western funded propaganda construct that has employed terrorists to destroy Syria, terrorists who were recently pulled out of Syria by the Israeli government and are now being repatriated into western countries.

A simple You Tube search provides the evidence that al-Qaeda's leader in Syria is fully operational on You Tube.

Screenshot of currently active You Tube videos of Abdullah al-Muhaysini:

Webmaster's Commentary:

Absoflippinglutely unbelievable!

And yet algorithms for You Tube and Facebook push sites like WRH, which constantly struggles to tell readers the truth, down to where people cannot see us, or hear us, and are subjected to absolute electronic oblivion.

Folks, You Tube and Facebook are simply distractions from the real world, where everything you post is collected and siphoned off to US alphabet soup agencies; it is really better to shun them as though they collectively had the plague.

The Madness Gripping Washington

The United States and Israel have been threatening Iran for something like twenty years, using the pretext that it was developing a nuclear weapon initially, but also more recently declaring that Tehran has become a threat to the entire Middle East. Both contentions are essentially lies, concocted by an Israel and Saudi Arabia that would prefer to have Iran removed as a possible impediment to their own ambitions. And they would like the United States to do the removing.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – JULY 31, 2018: DAMASCUS IS IN ONE STEP FROM LIBERATING ENTIRE SOUTHERN SYRIA

ISIS members retreated from the town of Shajarah and the villages of As`arah and Ma`rabah east of the Golan Heights under pressure from Syrian government forces. Thus, the terrorist group remained in control of only 3 villages in the area.

According to pro-government sources, there are less than 200 ISIS members hiding in Kuwayyah, Beit Arah and Qusayr. With the liberation of these villages, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) will be able to declare full control of the contact line with the Israeli-held area, and southern Syria in general.

The key problem of the advance in the Yarmouk valley is that an unknown number of ISIS fighters and ISIS-linked individuals are hiding among civilians in the recently liberated areas. Without additional security measures, these persons will be a source of constant threat of terrorist attacks.

Caravan Of Evil Reveals Evidence Of Western/Israeli Intelligence Assets In al-Qaeda, White Helmet Groups

By Brandon Turbeville

As more and more information comes out regarding the Caravan of Evil (i.e. the evacuation of the White Helmets from Southwestern Syria to Jordan and Israel and then on to Europe), there is also more and more evidence backing up the suspicions by many writers in the alternative media including myself regarding the nature of the specific White Helmets being evacuated. Namely, the idea that these individuals were more than just more al-Nusra Front propagandists, but valued intelligence assets...

Syrian Forces on the Verge of Capturing Entire Southwest

According to Hezbollah’s media unit, the Syrian government and its allies are on the verge of finishing their southwestern offensive, and will soon have total control over the entire Golan Heights frontier with Israeli-occupied Golan.

The last target in this protracted offensive was Khalid ibn al-Walid, an ISIS affiliate which controlled the Yarmouk Basin. Though all the major ISIS towns have already fallen, reports suggest they still control a few villages in the area.

The southwest, including the Deraa Province and parts of Quinietra, were dominated by rebels for much of the Syrian War, and were the last parts of the country’s southern border to fall back under government control. At this point, the last real rebel strongholds are in the far north, near Turkey.

ISLAMIC STATE DRONE PROGRAM STUDY REVEALS NATO RATLINES

Despite attempts by the US and European media to depict the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) in cartoon villain terms, it was always clear to serious analysis that the terrorist organization’s fighters, weapons, supplies and money were entering Syria and the result of extensive outside support.

A look at any map of the Syrian conflict, regardless of its source over the past 7 years shows IS and other militant groups maintaining territory with corridors leading directly to the borders of Syria’s neighbors, particularly NATO-member Turkey and US allies Israel and Jordan.

There have been direct admissions from the US itself that it played a role in IS’ creation. A 2013 leaked US Defense Intelligence Agency memo (.pdf) would explicitly note that the US and its allies sought the creation of what it then called a “Salafist principality” in eastern Syria, precisely where IS would later establish itself.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Absoflippinglutely unbelievable: ISIS was a created "frenemy", against which the US government could rail when it wanted to as being the "ultimate villain in the Middle East, while the US government was supporting it with weapons and money.

ISIS Attacks Against Syria Were Ordered By Israel, Fearing SAA Gains

Retired Syrian brigadier General Ali Maqsoud said that there is a direct link between the terrorist attack in the town of Sweida on July 25 and the downing of Syrian aircraft by Israeli missiles.

For Maqsoud, both attacks were caused by the successes of the Syrian Army. As for the attack on the Syrian plane, Israel aimed to protect terrorists and claim the right to the occupied territories of the Golan Heights. Due to the massive terrorist attack, Americans now have ‘reason’ to remain in Syria.

“The United States has established a base in the Al-Tanf [border region of Sweida province] for the training of tens of thousands of terrorists, who were behind the ISIS attack on the 25th. The US now has a pretext for remaining in Syria, meaning they have given the terrorists an advantage in order to stay in Syria,” he said.

MAINSTREAM JOURNALIST TRACKED MISSILE CASINGS USED BY AL-QAEDA AND THEY ALL CAME FROM US BASES

Finally, a journalist for a mainstream UK media outlet is methodically tracking weapons shipment serial numbers and English-language paperwork recovered from al-Qaeda groups in Syria, and he’s literally showing up at arms factories and questioning arms dealers, including officials at the Saudi Embassy in London, asking: why are your weapons in the hands of terrorists?

Veteran Middle East war correspondent Robert Fisk recently published a bombshell report entitled, I traced missile casings in Syria back to their original sellers, so it’s time for the west to reveal who they sell arms to. In it Fisk recalls a bit of detective sleuthing he’s lately been engaged in after stumbling upon a batch of missile casings and shipment paperwork last year hidden in what he describes as “the basement of a bombed-out Islamist base in eastern Aleppo” with the words “Hughes Aircraft Co/Guided Missile Surface Attack” emblazoned on the side of the spent tubes.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In the world of reporting geopolitics, Robert Fisk has always been an industrial-strength, tell-it-like-it-is guy.

And the reason he has found these western markings on the bombs and bullets he's looking at, is that the west was supporting these terrorists with weapons and money, to attempt to bring down the duly elected government of Syria.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – JULY 30, 2018: GOVERNMENT TROOPS LAUNCH FINAL PUSH TO DEFEAT ISIS IN SOUTHERN SYRIA

Militant groups in the province of Idlib have started an active phase of preparations to counter an expected advance of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the area.

On July 29, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra), Jabhat Tahrir Suriya (formerly Ahrar al-Sham), the National Front for Liberation, the Turkistan Islamic Party, Horas al-Din and some other groups created a new operations room to coordinate their military actions against the SAA.

According to pro-militant sources, the operations room unites about 70,000 members of various militant groups. However, this number looks overestimated.

White Helmets coming ‘home’: West & Israel provide ‘exceptional’ rescue strategy for NATO's ghosts

History appears to repeat itself as Israel conducts an “exceptional” rescue of extremist militants and their White Helmet “mannequins” from southern Syria – at the urgent request of NATO member states.

The military alliance’s member states just conducted a novel version of Operation Paperclip in Southern Syria but, instead of resettling Nazi war criminals to develop a weapon’s program in the US, they will resettle Al Qaeda militants and their auxiliaries. Indeed, the latter’s role has been to corroborate alleged tales of chemical weapons use by Syria – to justify the intervention of the US coalition, both by proxy and directly, against a sovereign nation.

Post World War II, the US imported Nazi scientists to prevent them falling into the hands of Soviet forces. Decades later America and its allies are extricating their client extremists, who are operating undercover in Syria, from the threat of discovery by approaching Syrian and Russian forces.

Syria’s Assad says White Helmets are terrorists, will be killed if they don’t surrender

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad says the White Helmets are terrorists posing as volunteer rescue personnel, and will be killed if they don’t surrender and lay down their arms, Russian media outlets reported Thursday.

Hundreds of members of the group — feted in the West and credited with saving thousands of lives during the Syrian regime’s bombing campaigns — were evacuated out of Syria by the Israeli military last week, with around 50 of them expected to be resettled in Canada.

At the time, Syria’s foreign ministry dubbed the rescue a “criminal operation” intended to destabilize its government.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – JULY 27, 2018: ARMY ELIMINATES OVER 600 ISIS MEMBERS IN SOUTHERN SYRIA

ISIS is on the verge of full collapse in southern Syria. Over the past few days, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) led by the 4th Armoured Division and the Tiger Forces, have liberated over 30 villages and settlements from the terrorist group in the area west of Daraa city.

Government troops have liberated the towns of Saham al-Jawlan, Tasil, Hayt and Adwan, the villages of al-Jumou and Maziraa as well as multiple nearby points. Then, they also advanced in the direction of al-Shajara, which is one of the few remaining ISIS strong points.
A source in the 4th Armoured Division told SouthFront that over 600 ISIS members have been eliminated by the SAA, backed up by the Russian Aerospace Forces, since the start of the operation in the ISIS-held pocket.

ISIS “Victories” Are Western “Victories”

So, when Israel shot down a Syrian warplane on 24 July, as the plane was attacking ISIS near the occupied Golan Heights1, it was a victory not only for ISIS, but for the West and its allies who seek regime change. ISIS is good for Regime Change.

Separately, but related, ISIS and the West also scored a “victory” in the province of Sweida, Syria, on 25 July, 2018. What did the “victory” look like?” ISIS terrorists emerged from areas near the illegal U.S military base at Al-Tanf. They murdered about 240 Syrians, and wounded about 170.

DID PRO-SYRIAN FORCES TRICK ISRAEL INTO ATTACKING ISIS?

Russia’s Defense Ministry said the Syrian attack on ISIS held Syrian territory very close to the Syrian territory occupied by Israel, on Wednesday was made against ISIS positions. Israel has been funneling weapons, supplies, ammunition, and medical provisions to ISIS since the onset of the conflict.

In what will surely go down as one of the more memorable Zionist blunders in this conflict, the Israeli attack in response meant to hit Syrian positions instead hit missile launchers used by ISIS.

This comes only days after FRN and other trusted news and information sites such as AMN revealed that Israel evac’d White Helmets.

Israel’s ‘Jewish nation-state’ law a prelude to annexation

When the Netanyahu government passed a Basic Law this week enshrining a superior set of rights for Israel's Jewish citizens, it ushered in a new era of open apartheid. To appreciate the significance of the new nation-state law, one must understand why the bill split Israel's nationalist camp, and why demographic factors forced it to the fore. After the final vote, ruling Likud lawmaker Avi Dichter, who sponsored the bill's first iteration, explained its true purpose. "We are enshrining this important bill into a law today to prevent even the slightest thought, let alone attempt, to transform Israel to a country of all its citizens," Dichter gloated after the law passed this week ... Of course, ever since the state was founded in 1948, Israel has discriminated against its non-Jewish Palestinian citizens in a myriad of ways.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – JULY 26, 2018: SYRIAN ARMY REPELS LARGE-SCALE ISIS ATTACK IN AL-SUWAYDA

On July 25, ISIS carried out a large-scale attack on positions of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the local National Defense Forces (NDF) in the province of al-Suwayda. ISIS employed at least six suicide bombers in the city of al-Suwayda and temporarily captured the villages of Shbeiki, Shureihi, Rami and Duma. The SAA and the NDF killed two suicide bombers, captured one and retook the villages after a few hours of clashes. In these clashes, at least 15 ISIS members were killed.

However, the ISIS attack resulted in multiple civilian casualties. According to local sources, up to 150 civilians were killed and an unknown number was injured.

The ISIS attack in al-Suwayda shows that a large-scale operation against ISIS cells still operating in desert areas in central Syria is something urgently needed to keep security in the formally liberated areas.

Israel rejected the offer and demanded that the Iranians should be withdrawn from Syria altogether in exchange for Bashar Al-Assad saying in power in Damascus.

Syria - For The Third Time Israel Falsely Claims Iran Pull-Back Deal With Russia

A typical Israeli propaganda scheme is to falsely claim that an agreement with some entity has been made and to then push that entity to stick to a "deal" it never agreed to. Israel dislikes any 'Iranian presence' in Syria. It tries to press on Russia to push Iran out of Syria by claiming that Russia offered or made such a deal.

Last fall a campaign in Israeli media claimed that Russia had agreed to push Iran away from the border with Israel. Russia denied that anything like that happened. Iranian forces in Syria are legitimately there. In late May a similar campaign repeated that scheme. It claimed that the Russian Foreign Minister had agreed to move Iran out, when in fact he had called on U.S. forces to leave Syria.

SYRIA - FOR THE THIRD TIME ISRAEL FALSELY CLAIMS IRAN PULL-BACK DEAL WITH RUSSIA

Yesterday we saw a third attempt by Israel to pretend that Russia had offered or made a deal to counter 'Iranian presence':

A senior political source participated in the meeting between Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and Russian Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov, at the Prime Minister's Office in Jerusalem Sunday evening.
"It was made clear again that we would not accept Iranian consolidation in Syria, not near the border, and not in the 100-kilometer strip that the Russians are talking about and committing to," the senior official said. "We said that there is long-range weapons placed beyond this area and all these forces have to leave Syria. Russia has considerable capabilities to deal with this, because it is a very significant factor within Syria."

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – JULY 25, 2018: ISRAEL SHOOTS DOWN SYRIAN WARPLANE BOMBING ISIS TERRORISTS

On July 24, the Syrian military faced the expected Israeli military actions resulting from Tel Aviv’s displeasure with the fact that its long-time supported militant-held buffer zone east of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights is crumbling.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) employed two Patirot air defense missiles to shoot down a Syrian Su-22 warplane involved in the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) operation against ISIS in the area. One pilot, Colonel Umran Mare, died in the incident.

Israel claimed that the warplane entered about 1 mile into its airspace, meaning the occupied Golans, and was shot down after a few warnings. The Syrian side said that this once again shows Israeli support for terrorist groups operating in Syria.

Israeli Warning Sirens Sound in Golan Heights

Incidents in the disputed area of Golan Heights have intensified over the past weeks, with Israel exchanging attacks with Syria.

Earlier in the day, the Israeli military warned that "since this morning, there has been an increase in the internal fighting in Syria and the Syrian Air Force's activity," adding that the army "is in high alert and will continue to operate against the violation of the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement."

At least 38 killed in string of attacks in Syria’s southwest, ISIS reportedly behind carnage

At least 38 people have been killed in a series of attacks, including suicide bombings, that hit Syrian southwest on Wednesday, health authorities confirmed to state TV.

A suicide bomber blew himself up in the market area in the southwestern Syrian city of Sweida, Sana state news agency said. Law enforcement reportedly killed two more suicide attackers before they could blow themselves up. Also villages of al-Matouneh, Douma, Tima, al-Shabaki, and Rami to the northeast of Sweida were struck by simultaneous attacks.

Israel Downs Syrian Jet Targeting Israeli-Backed Rebels in the Golan Heights

***
However, the Syrian government has strongly contested that assessment, stating that the jet had in fact been attacking jihadist groups along the border on the edge of the Yarmouk Valley and had never left Syrian airspace when it was shot down. Syrian state news agency SANA asserted that Israel’s attack on the jet “confirms its support for the armed terrorist groups” currently being targeted by the Syrian military as part of its successful offensive to retake southern Syria from rebel groups.
***
If Israel did shoot the plane down in Syrian airspace, it certainly would not be the first time Israel has intervened in the region in order to protect extremist Islamist rebel groups that have controlled the Syrian side of the border for the past several years. Indeed, Israel is largely responsible for the continued existence of these groups, having cultivated their presence in the area, as a so-called “buffer zone” against Syrian-allied Iranian and Lebanese forces, under the orders of former Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon.

Furthermore, Israel has been shown to have supplied these groups with food and weapons and has bused injured rebels into Israel for medical treatment before sending them back to the Syrian border. In some cases, Israel even financed the groups entirely — as is the case with the rebel group Fursan al-Golan (Knights of the Golan), which has received approximately $60,000 per year from the Israeli government since 2013.

UK Favours Extremism Over Democracy in Syria

By propping up Turkey's Afrin operation, the British government has once again supported Islamist-backed military conquest over more liberal forces.

How does a British government respond when an allied state invades another territory with the backing of jihadists, overthrows a democratic experiment and consolidates an occupation? Judging by what Turkey is doing in the Afrin district of northern Syria, the answer is: by supporting it.

Britain, far from helping to defeat terrorism in Syria, is once again aiding it.

As Britain arms Turkey, there is a real risk that such military equipment can end up in the hands of jihadists. Yet the British government defines Turkey as a priority market for promoting arms sales that have been worth more than £200 million ($265m) since 2016, including aircraft, helicopters, drones, grenades, small arms and ammunition.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Congratulations to Prime Minister May to have become the UK's own Merchant Death, this time with Turkey as the primary recipient of the UK's military weaponry.

That you even believed, for one second, that Erdogan, whose meglomania and paranoia is growing by the day, is a force with whom you could reason, for economic gain, I would politely suggest that you think again; you do not know where the weapons you have sold the man will actually wind up, and against whom they will be used.

Or maybe, you didn't give a damn when you sold him those weapons.

Israel Evacuated Alleged Mossad-Linked Rebel Commanders During “Humanitarian” White Helmet Rescue

Given that Israel had spent over $60,000 a year supporting Syrian rebel group Fursan al-Golan financially, it would make sense for Tel Aviv not only to develop and maintain ties with their commanders, but to rescue those commanders as the Syrian government continues its advance.

Over the weekend, and as MintPress predicted last Tuesday, the controversial Western government-funded “humanitarian” group, the Syrian Civil Defense — popularly known as the White Helmets — were evacuated from southern Syria as the Syrian government continues to gain ground in its offensive throughout the country’s southwest. However, sources from within the Syrian opposition have revealed that the White Helmets were not the only ones evacuated from Syrian territory, as four top “rebel” commanders were also among the evacuees, undermining the heavily promoted narrative that the evacuation was purely “humanitarian” in nature.

Israel Rejects Russian Plan To Keep Iranian Forces 100km From Golan Border

Israel has rejected a Russian proposal to keep Iranian forces in Syria at least 100 kilometers from the Syrian-Israeli recognized ceasefire line along the Golan Heights, Reuters reports, while Israeli leadership has further threatened to hold Assad responsible "for any Iranian aggression".

According to the breaking report, which cites an unnamed Israeli official, the issue came up during a meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and a visiting Russian delegation led by Russia’s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov:

The official said that Netanyahu told Lavrov "we will not allow the Iranians to establish themselves even 100 kilometres from the border."

Israel shoots down Syrian fighter jet over Golan Heights

Syrian state media said the fighter jet was targeted in Syrian airspace while conducting raids against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and other fighters in southern Syria.

"The Israeli enemy confirms its support for the armed terrorist groups and targets one of our warplanes, which was striking their groups in the area of Saida, on the edge of the Yarmouk Valley in Syrian airspace," Syrian news agency SANA quoted a military source as saying.

The incident comes during a Russia-backed Syrian offensive to retake parts of southern Syria the Bashar al-Assad government lost to rebels during the civil war that started in 2011.

‘They may be jihadists but they’re our jihadists’: White Helmets' UK resettlement policy attacked

The UK is to offer asylum to members of western-backed White Helmets group, that operates in Jihadists-held areas in Syria. The move has prompted dire warnings about who exactly Britain might be admitting.

Some 98 White Helmets members were rescued by the Israel Defense Forces on Saturday night, as part of an evacuation mission that saw a total of 422 people collected from Syria and transferred across Northern Israel and into Jordan at three points, the Guardian reports.

The paper claims that the UK is prepared to offer asylum to up to 500 White Helmets members or relatives of the group, officially known as the Syria Civil Defence. The proposed resettlement of members of the group has divided opinion.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – JULY 24, 2018: SYRIAN ARMY KICKS OFF OPERATION AGAINST ISIS EAST OF GOLANS

On July 23, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies kicked off a military operation to defeat ISIS terrorists in southern Syria, east of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Government forces liberated the villages of Ma’alaqah and Um Lawqas as well as some nearby hills in the northern part of the ISIS-held pocket.

On July 24, the SAA-led force continued its advance aiming to capture the town of Tasil and the nearby villages of Saudah, Ain Thakar and Adawan. The general goal of the effort is to shorten the frontline against ISIS. This will allow the SAA to focus their main efforts on more fortified areas located in the central and southern parts of the pocket.

Separately, the SAA retook a post of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) at the village of Al-Rafeed. Thus, the only areas de-facto controlled by members of the Free Syrian Army and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham east of the Golan Heights are Baqira, Beerajam, Quneitra and Jubata al-Kashab.

More Shocking Details Emerge Of White Helmets Evacuation From Syria

Since the overnight Saturday and into early Sunday Israeli military operation which successfully evacuated White Helmets members and their families from southwest Syria at the request of the US and European governments, new details and footage have emerged.

First, what we find most striking and woefully under-reported in international media is that the fact that armed groups immediately set fire to Quneitra crossing on the Syrian side of the border the morning just after the White Helmets passed through it to the Israeli side.

The post acts as the only crossing between Syrian territories and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, and was formerly run by the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF). There is over a mile in distance between the Syrian and Israeli sides of the crossing.

RT: VIDEO of trails left by missiles, launched by IDF at Syrian jet

A video of what appears to be smoke trails left by two Patriot missiles that were launched by the IDF at a Syrian Sukhoi fighter jet over the Golan Heights was posted online by Israeli paper Haaretz.

The Israeli Defense Forces announced that they fired two interceptor missiles at a Syrian warplane on Tuesday. The video was shot shortly after residents reported they heard the air-defense siren in the Golan Heights, the paper wrote.

Exceptional Refugees – Israel Helps Evacuate White Helmets From Syria, Exports al-Qaeda To Europe

By Brandon Turbeville

As the Syrian government marches forward with the liberation of the southwestern front, the United States, Europe, Israel, and Jordan are coming to the humanitarian rescue. But they aren’t rescuing civilians from terrorists or even from being caught in the crossfire. Instead, these countries have identified a group of “exceptional refugees” whose lives matter much more than those of the civilians the West has wantonly slaughtered for the last seven years...

ARABIC MEDIA: ISRAEL OBTAINED LIST OF IRANIAN TARGETS IN IRAQ

Israel has obtained a “list of targets inside Iraqi territory,” according to the Arabic website Al-Jarida. The media outlet claims it learned from “informed sources” that Jerusalem has a list of “Iranian military sites used to transport weapons and equipment to Syria.”

Al-Jarida says it obtained exclusive photos of some of these targets, including border crossings with Iran near Mehran, east of Baghdad, and another near Basra. “Israel has monitored these sites. The sources pointed out that Iran was attempting to create a land corridor from Tehran via Baghdad to Syria.” The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps controlled some of these sites, including a base at Rutba, and other sections of roads leading to Syria.

Israel targets ‘Iranian’ military installations in Syria

Israeli fighter jets attacked parts of western Syria yesterday on a military site in the Masyaf countryside. A military source said in a statement to Syrian news agency SANA that a “military site in Masyaf in Hama countryside was targeted by an Israeli aerial aggression, causing only material damage”.

The source said that the “aggression is an attempt to cover up for the collapse of terrorist organisations in Daraa and Quneitra provinces, as the Syrian Arab Army advances to end the presence of terrorism in the southern region”.

The source accused Israel of “helping terrorist organisations either through direct interference or by providing them with logistic support, weapons and intelligence.”

There was no comment from Israel but sources in the country speculated that the strike was related to Iran as it came just hours after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed that he was continuously acting against Iran’s military activities in Syria.

The evacuation of the White Helmets through Israel raises suspicions

The timing of the evacuation and the readiness of the Israeli government to assist have added to the suspicions. Even those who have in the past brushed off allegations leveled against the White Helmets are now raising questions. Israel is not known for its cordiality towards the Arabs in general, it has only been friendly to those who have assisted in its military and political objectives. Skeptics have argued that this latest decision has given credence to some accusations leveled against the White Helmets. Importantly, according to some observers, this decision also rubbishes claims that the White Helmets have been impartial in the conflict in Syria. Why was special treatment granted to them amidst thousands of similar requests from other organisations and civilians?

Over 1,200 corpses unearthed in Raqqa mass graves, US still in denial about massive casualties

The bodies of more than 1,200 civilians, mostly women and children, were discovered in mass graves in Raqqa, Syria. The total number of corpses still rotting there is unknown, as relatives continue searching for their loved ones.
The Raqqa Reconstruction Committee has been working for more than six months to deal with and dig up the human cost of the city’s ‘liberation.’ The group says it has discovered some 1,236 bodies since January from just three burial sites, but fears that there are many more elsewhere.

The city was pounded with some 30,000 artillery rounds and thousands of airstrikes launched by the US-led coalition in 2017, which reduced 90 percent of the buildings to rubble. While the US still claims there were what Amnesty called“artificially low civilian casualty figures,” the rights group’s findings and witnesses prove the US is just “deeply in denial” as to the real number of casualties.

Israel launches U.S.-backed missile shield on Syria frontier, Russia sends envoys

Israel launched its newest air defense system on Monday on the Syrian frontier, where Damascus’s Russian-backed forces have been routing rebels, as Moscow sent envoys for what it called “urgent” talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Netanyahu planned to meet Russia’s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, and its armed forces chief, General Valery Gerasimov, later in the day, a visit the Israeli leader said was arranged last week at the request of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Israel is on high alert as Syrian President Bashar al-Assad regains ground from rebels in the southwest of the country, bringing his forces close to the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

In a sign of high tensions, Israel launched two David’s Sling interceptor missiles at rockets which it said fell inside Syrian territory and were part of the internal fighting there.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In having ordered these missiles launched into Syria at this time, it appears that Netanyahu is flipping the proverbial "bird" at Russia's President Putin; and after all the work Putin and Russia have put into reclaiming Syria from the US armed/funded "rebels", this is somethng, I believe, that Putin will tell Netnayahu he will no longer tolerate.

What the cost of this to Israel might be, in a brand new game, vis a vis the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, I do not know; but Netanyahu may well be about to understand that he can no longer attack a sovereign state with impunity any more.

ISRAEL EVACAUTES WHITE HELMETS’ MEMBERS FROM SOUTHERN SYRIA

During the past three days, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies entered up to 40 villages and settlements in the southern provinces of Quneitra and Daraa after militants, mostly members of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) had surrendered in the area.

A few batches of radical militants and their families, consisting of dozens of buses, already left southern Syria towards the militant-held part of Idlib province. Militants also handed over more than 10 battle tanks to the SAA. On July 23, militants continued surrendering weapons to government forces and leaving towards Idlib.

Israel transported several hundred of the White Helmets and their families from the southwestern part of Syria to Jordan overnight July 21, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported saying this move was “a humanitarian effort” at the request of the US and European countries.

White Helmets "Rescued" By Israel Via Golan Heights In Overnight Operation

Overnight Saturday Israel evacuated 800 White Helmets members and their families from southern Syria in an operation that took them briefly into Israeli territory and then on to Jordan, where they are expected to be resettled in Britain, Canada, and Germany, according to officials in Amman.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed Israel's spearheading the move at the request of the United States and European governments. The dead of night operation comes a week after reports first surfaced that serious discussions were held on the matter during the July 11-12 NATO summit in Brussels.

The IDF official twitter account posted the following statement: "Following an Israeli Government directive and at the request of the United States and additional European countries, the IDF recently completed a humanitarian effort to rescue members of a Syrian civil organization and their families."

Syrian army pushes into Qunaitra province - state tv, rebels

The Syrian army and its allies made advances in the southwest that bring it closer to the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights border, state television and rebels said.

The army, backed by a Russian air campaign, has been pushing into the edges of Qunaitra province following an offensive last month that routed rebels in adjoining Deraa province who were once backed by Washington, Jordan and Gulf states.

The offensive has restored Syrian government control over a swathe of the southwest, strategic territory at the borders with Jordan and Israel.

The capture of a string of villages in a zone extending between the two southwestern provinces, announced by the army on Saturday, comes as a second group of rebels and their relatives are expected to evacuate to northern Syria later in the day.

House panel considers recognizing Israeli annexation of Golan Heights

A key U.S. House of Representatives committee heard arguments for and against recognizing Israel’s annexation of the Golan Heights.

The hearing Tuesday of the national security subcommittee of the Oversight Committee, convened by Rep. Ron De Santis, R-Fla., the subcommittee chairman, was not attached to any piece of legislation.

However, the push by De Santis, who in his remarks favored recognizing Israel’s 1981 annexation of the strategic plateau, represents an aggressive push by some pro-Israel groups, friendly Republicans and the Israeli government to consolidate gains under President Donald Trump, whose closeness to the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is unprecedented.

Syria’s Assad Set to Recover Golan Frontier as Surrender Deal Agreed: Sources

President Bashar Assad is set to recover control of the Syrian frontier with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights in a major victory over rebels who have agreed to surrender terms, sources on both sides said Thursday.

Backed by Russian air power and unopposed by Assad’s foreign adversaries, government forces have swept through southwestern Syria in the last month in one of the swiftest campaigns of the war, forcing surrender on massively outgunned rebels.

The campaign, which has already restored Assad’s control over a critical portion of the frontier with Jordan, marks another milestone in his efforts to recover control of the country fractured by more than seven years of conflict.

There was no government confirmation of the Qunaitra agreement. State media cited “reports” a deal had been reached. It was not clear when implementation would begin.

A copy of the agreement sent to Reuters by a rebel source said insurgents had negotiated the deal with Russia.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The questions here are, to what lengths will Russia and Al Assad go to recover the Golan from Israel, and to what lengths Israel will go to keep it?!?

And the other question is, what can we do to keep the US from getting caught up in this fight, which could well turn into a hot war against Russia over the Golan?!?

Terrorists Agree to Surrender Entire Quneitra to Syrian Army

The Arabic website of SANA news agency reported on Thursday that the terrorist groups in Quneitra have reached an agreement with the Syrian army to grant amnesty to those who surrender and allow others to leave the region for Idlib.

It added that based on the agreement, the Syrian army will be deployed in regions that it lost in 2011 once again.

Sources affiliated to the dissidents also reported that the terrorists in Quneitra have reached the agreement with the army through Russian mediation.

The Syrian army's full control over the strategic regions in Quneitra and the extensive support of residents of these regions for the army started after the terrorists' defense lines in Dara'a and parts of Quneitra collapsed completely.

PENTAGON: US-BACKED MILITIAS HOLDING 600 FOREIGN FIGHTERS IN CUSTODY

The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are currently holding nearly 600 foreign fighters in custody, the Pentagon told reporters yesterday.

“As of July 2018 there are nearly 600 Foreign Terrorist Fighters from more than 40 countries in SDF custody,” Pentagon spokesman Navy Commander Sean Robertson said, adding that the US military was also aware of more than 400 Syrian nationals who were also being detained by the SDF.

A US military official with the coalition told CNN that of the foreign fighters in detention, some 40 are from Russia, with around a dozen from Germany and France respectively.

The fate of foreign fighters has been subject to heightened debate since the establishment of Daesh in Syria and Iraq. US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis previously emphasised that the fighters’ countries of origins needed to take responsibility for them.

Webmaster's Commentary:

No, Sec-Def Mattis; the countries of origin did not encourage these men to fight the duly elected Syrian government and their militaries; the US government did that!!

And if political resolutions between these militia and the Syrian government can be facilitated, so much the better for everyone.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – JULY 20, 2018: MILITANTS IN WESTERN QUNEITRA FULLY SURRENDER TO SYRIAN ARMY

The defense of non-ISIS militants in southern Syria has fully collapsed under pressure from the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), the Tiger Forces and their allies.

Government troops have liberated al-Shaikh Sa’d, Tell al-Bahsa, Tell Ashtara, Khirbat al-Tira, al-Sukariyah, Qrqus and Tell al-Jabiyah mostly taking control of these areas accepting surrender deals from members of the Free Syrian Army (FSA).

According to pro-government sources, members of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) and the FSA have fully surrendered to the SAA and a radical part of them has accepted an evacuation agreement. Under the agreement, the militants will hand over all of their weapons to the SAA and get an open corridor to move to the militant- held areas in the provinces of Idlib and Aleppo.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – JULY 19, 2018: SDF’S POLITICAL WING SEEKS TO NORMALIZE RELATIONS WITH DAMASCUS

On July 18, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said that their members, backed up by the US-led coalition, had captured 1,100km2, which included sixteen villages, from ISIS in the provinces of al-Hasakah and Deir Ezzor.

According to the SDF, four ISIS members were killed and four others were captured during the advance. One SDF member reportedly died. Additionally, the SDF captured a pickup truck, two heavy machine guns, a RPG-7 launcher, mines and ammunition. The provided numbers show that ISIS had shown almost no resistance to the advancing US-backed force.

A day earlier, on July 17, Ilham Ehmed, co-chairperson of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), a political wing of the SDF, announced that the SDC will open offices in the provinces of Hama, Homs, Latakia and in the capital of Damascus in the near future in a move allegedly aimed to propel negotiations between the SDF/SDC and the Damascus government.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – JULY 18, 2018: SYRIAN ARMY LIBERATED ANOTHER GROUP OF SETTLEMENTS EAST OF GOLANS

Militants are losing more and more areas in southern Syria to the advancing government troops.

Over the past day, units of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), the National Defense Forces (NDF) and the Tiger Forces have restored control of al-Mal, Aqrabah, al-Alamiyah and the surrounding hills following a series of brief clashes with local militants.

The SAA and the NDF have also entered the villages of Nimer and Jasim where a local reconciliation agreement has been reached. The town of Nawa remains in the hands of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) and its allies. It’s the last real strongpoint of militants northwest of Daraa city.

The Syrian state-run media also declared that the towns of Busra al-Sham and Hirak are fully secured after militants had surrendered weapons there under the previously reached deal.

The town of Nawa has remained one of the key militant defense points in the area east of the Golan Heights. Once it falls, the defense of militant groups will fully collapse.

Meanwhile, reports appeared that some FSA units in the area have requested a ceasefire and negotiations with the Syrian-Russian-Iranian alliance to reach a comprehensive reconciliation agreement. According to reports, a moderate part of the militants want to surrender their weapons and to settle their legal status with the Damascus government. However, agreement has not yet been reached.

GOP Sen Kennedy: I Told Russia’s ‘Wise-Ass’ Foreign Minister ‘Stop Screwing with American Elections’

Monday on CNN’s “At This Hour,” Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) said while he was in Russia he told “wise-ass” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to “stop screwing with American elections.”

Kennedy said, “I went for two reasons. Number one, to deliver a message. I delivered that to the foreign minister, to the speaker of the house, and to a number of their senators. This is what I said: number one, stop screwing with American elections. Number two, get out of eastern Ukraine and let them self-determine. Number three, get out of Crimea and let Crimea self-determine. Number four, stop screwing around in Syria and help us settle the mess. And number five, do not allow Iran to get a foothold in southern Syria. Because if you do that, there’s going to be another war. Israel is not going to stand for it. They were rough meetings.”

US And Allies Planning Evacuation Of White Helmets From Syria

Perhaps we are about to witness the final chapter to the controversial White Helmets saga?

As we've detailed many times before both the West and the group's leadership have long claimed it's nothing but a humanitarian non-governmental organization (NGO) devoted to rescuing Syrian's in the midst of war; however, new reports reveal the US and UK are mulling plans to evacuate the group's members who, far from being a "neutral" NGO, are funded by Western governments which have simultaneously sought the ouster of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

US government officials say White Helmets members are in "imminent danger" and face the threat of assassination as pro-government forces advance deeper into southwest Syria.

US Airstrike Kills 54 Civilians Near Abu Kamal in Push to Control Syrian Border

Around midnight on Friday, U.S.-led coalition warplanes in Syria conducted intensive airstrikes near Abu Kamal in the Deir ez-Zor province, with estimates of civilian casualties ranging from 30 to 54. Syrian state media agency SANA has claimed that at least 30 were killed and that most of the dead were women and children. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), often cited by international and particularly Western media, has asserted that 54 were killed.

According to local reports, the U.S.-led coalition strikes targeted the towns of al-Souseh and al-Baghouz Fowqani, east of the Euphrates river in the countryside around Abu Kamal. The bombings resulted in dozens of houses in the towns collapsing, resulting in numerous civilian deaths, as whole families were crushed by the rubble while they were sleeping.

Kurdish Fighters Selling US-Supplied Weapons on Black Market – Reports

The US provides weapons and other military equipment to allied Kurds fighting in Northern Syria.

Just as Washington has ramped up its support for Kurdish units in Syria, the fighters are selling their US-made weapons on the black market to make up for their expenses, the Arabic-language Daily Sabah reported, citing local sources in Northern Syria.

In keeping with an agreement between the US and Turkey, the Kurdish forces are to withdraw from Manbij and other areas west of the Euphrates River and surrender their weapons to the UN before the end of this year.

According to the sources, the Kurdish fighters fear that once they have handed over their weapons, Turkey might launch a new military operation against them in Northern Syria.

"Hence, they are selling the weapons to other militant groups that operate in the same region," they added.

US Message To Assad: "We Will Pull Out Of Syria If Iran Withdraws"

As Presidents Trump and Putin are set to meet Monday in Helsinki, efforts toward winding down the proxy war in Syria will no doubt be high on the agenda.

Israel Attacks Airbase Outside Northern Syrian City of Aleppo

Israel attacks Syrian military targets seemingly several times per week at this point. On Sunday, however, they carried out a very rare flurry of missile strikes in the far north of Syria, hitting Nayrab military airport in Aleppo.

Nayrab is being called an “Iranian-linked base” by Israeli media, and is adjacent to the international airport there. The attacks were confirmed by several different outlets, but exactly what was accomplished in the attack is disputed.

Syrian state media outlet SANA said only damage to material was accomplished, while other outlets reported multiple casualties, including at least two dead Syrian soldiers from the strike. There is no official report on casualties yet.

The Israeli military, as usual, offered no comment on the strikes, saying they don’t comment on reports which emerged in foreign media. Israeli media outlets are generally treating this as a probable attack, however, making it the third Israeli strike in Syria in the past week.

Netanyahu, Trump discuss Iran, Syria ahead of Helsinki summit

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said yesterday that he had discussed with US President Donald Trump issues related to Iran and Syria ahead of Trump’s summit with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin in the Finnish capital, Helsinki.

“On Saturday evening, I spoke with US President Donald Trump over the telephone and discussed security and diplomatic issues in light of developments in the region, with Syria and Iran first and foremost, of course”, Netanyahu said during the Israeli cabinet’s weekly meeting.

“As you know, these issues will also come up at the president’s summit in Helsinki. Of course I discussed them with President Putin last Wednesday”, he added.

Netanyahu praised in his remarks what he described as the US President’s “firm policy” towards Iran, adding that since the policy was adopted “we have seen its significant impact on Iran”.

Neocons Panic As Trump-Putin Meeting Could Mark Close Of Syrian Proxy War

When multiple op-ed pieces appear in the pages of the New York Times, Washington Post, and the CFR-owned Foreign Affairs authored by neocons simultaneously pleading with Trump Don't Get Out of Syria(!) all within the same week, this is typically an indicator that the president is about to do something good.

Trump is set to meet with Putin one-on-one this coming Monday in Helsinki after a contentious NATO summit and a sufficiently awkward visit with Theresa May, and mainstream pundits' heads are exploding.

‘They Bombed Trapped Civilians’: Amnesty’s Damning Report on UK, US, France Destruction in Raqqa

UK, US, and French bombs inflicted mass loss of civilian life in ISIS-held Raqqa, according Amnesty International. A new report has also accused coalition forces of bombing areas where they knew civilians were trapped.

During the four-month operation to eradicate the Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) in the Syrian city of Raqqa, the US-led coalition – which includes British forces – killed hundreds of civilians and injured many more, says Amnesty International.

According to its damning report into the coalition forces, residents were trapped as fighting raged in the streets between IS militants and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), who were supported by coalition airstrikes. Escape routes for civilians were riddled with IEDs, put there by Islamic State, which also positioned snipers to shoot those trying to flee.
