Pentagon chief lauds US bid to store heavy weapons in Eastern Europe

US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter has lauded Washington’s decision to station heavy weaponry in Eastern Europe, and vowed the United States will defend its allies against Russia.

"The concept is to have sets of equipment principally to support training so that they are already located there, including heavy equipment," Carter said in an address in Berlin, Germany, on Monday. "There is the possibility also of more equipment being positioned for contingencies."

Trapping Russia to Prove a Negative

The prove-a-negative trap is the Big Lie technique of Nazi propagandist Josef Goebbels: there is no substance to the allegations and there is no obligation to present evidence to verify, thanks to the dutiful and unquestioning nature of Western corporate “journalism”.

The United States and its Western allies are trying to ensnare Russia in an audacious disinformation trap over the Ukraine conflict. That trap involves imposing an insoluble conundrum on Vladimir Putin’s government, which we might call “prove a negative”. It is a familiar conceptual device that Washington has used elsewhere, against Iraq and Iran for example, in order to pursue what are otherwise illegitimate geopolitical aims.Russia is being held up as the guilty party that is undermining the shaky Minsk ceasefire; and Western economic sanctions are being extended “until Russia implements the ceasefire”.

The Myth of Global ‘Free’ Trade

The key to TTIP is the so-called Investor-State Dispute Settlement mechanism that essentially gives corporations free reign to sue governments using a “failure to implement” provision, if state policies or legislation interfere with profits. But is this all about trade?

There was a direct, crucial “secret” agenda linking the G7 meeting in Germany and the Bilderberg meeting in Austria last week; the advancement of the virtually secret negotiations towards the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), the massive free trade agreement between the US and the EU.

Even though the corporate powers behind TTIP are itching for a deal to be reached before the end of 2015, serious (negotiation) trouble remains.

Trump for President? — Paul Craig Roberts

This is not my endorsement of Trump for President. It is merely my speculations on how we might think of how large egos might be brought into our service.

Celente put it well. If you look at the sorry collection that aspires to be the CEO of what continues to be described as the “exceptional, indispensable, most important country with the largest economy and military, the world’s only Superpower, the Uni-power,” you see a collection of nobodies. America is like the last days of Rome when contenting factions fought to put their puppet on the throne.

In actual fact, Trump might be our best candidate to date. By all accounts, he is very rich. Thus, he doesn’t need the office in order to become rich by selling out America to interest groups.

Alison Weir Replies to JVP Leaders’ McCarthy-like Attacks

It is time to stop fighting among ourselves, for JVP and others to stop their witch hunts against deeply committed writers and activists, for JVP to stop its attempted censorship and domination of the Palestine movement, and for all of us to get on with our desperately important work.

With the publication of my book last year, “Against our Better Judgment: The hidden history of how the US was used to create Israel,” the attacks seemed to escalate.

It appeared that some JVP leaders were attempting to thwart my talks and prevent people from learning the facts that my book and my talks contain.

In the USA – “I Cannot Write!”

The West is finished, its culture dead. What is left is unattractive, even horrifying. There is no heart, no compassion, and no creativity.

It was the first time in many years that I had missed my column, my essays, for several weeks.

I was shocked by the state in which I found the United States.

I couldn’t breath. I lost the ability to write. I felt anger building inside me. The anger was suffocating, strangling me. It was unhealthy anger, mixed with frustration! It was not that sacred anger one feels when going to a battle against great evil. It was also somehow petty, indescribable, and pathetic. It was breaking me, humiliating me.

I hated the fights I had to fight here.

I tried to see the reality that was surrounding me with different eyes but wherever I looked I saw only a dysfunctional, sad, collapsing country and culture.

This visit broke me. It exhausted me. It thoroughly depressed me.

Jens Stoltenberg: NATO’s Mr Zig-Zag

So, who is rattling sabres here?

Obviously, the NATO alliance is on a dangerous, threatening roll toward Russia’s borders. American-led war games, thousands of troops and tanks, missiles, warplanes and warships have proliferated at dizzying speed over the past year, from the Baltic to the Black Sea. Currently, NATO is conducting its biggest-ever war manoeuvres in the Baltic region, and yet when Russia takes reasonable defensive measures, Stoltenberg accuses Moscow of sabre-rattling. Just this week, prior to the Russian ICBM announcement, the Pentagon told the Paris Air Show that it was considering the stationing of its new generation of stealth F-22 and F-35 fighter jets in Europe – another contravention in a whole series of audacious contraventions of the 1997 Russia-NATO Founding Act which forbids such NATO military expansion.

Icebergs ahead for expensive US, UK aircraft carrier projects

For $US 17 billion a pop ($US 13 billion if somebody else is paying for the research and development costs) you’d expect some big bangs for your buck.
In the case of the US Navy’s latest and most advanced supercarrier, the glossy brochure certainly makes the promises.

The first of this ultra-advanced class of ships, the USS Gerald R. Ford, has been delivered to the US Navy for testing.

he never-before seen electromagnetic aircraft launch system (EMALS) appears to be a bit dodgy.
It’s still experimental, you see. At some point it was decided to incorporate this cutting-edge technology into the ship even before testing and development work was completed.
Each of the planned four catapults is supposed to use electrically-controlled and generated magnets to sling 36 tonnes of heavily laden aircraft into the air.
Ten years later the ship’s ready. The electromagnetic catapult isn’t.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is a snapshot of what is wrong with American defense technology.

But the defense industry lines the pockets of (alleged) congressional who tout their products to the Pentagon, and so we have this endless cycle of product failure, when the American military needs products to work the most.

When the Russians and Chinese build their weapons, they build them for far less money, but get a lot more bang to their buck, because there is an
expectation that the product will work as advertised.

The plan calls for buying radars that would enable National Guard F-16 fighter jets to spot and shoot down fast and low-flying missiles. Top generals want to network those radars with sensor-laden aerostat balloons hovering over U.S. cities and with coastal warships equipped with sensors and interceptor missiles of their own.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I look around, both locally and at the mainland, and realize, painfully clearly, that We the People are getting looted to make more bombs, weapons, and planes which will not really make this country more secure in any tangible way.

The only things which will create safety for Americans are hard, good faith negotiations with countries this government doesn't really like, to create win-win situations, and the US not mucking about in other people's countries to attain resources to which the US government has no moral claim whatsoever.

Unfortunately, these are two courses of action this government is pathologically unable to navigate, and that reality will lead to either a complete financial breakdown in this country, or a world war.

I sincerely wish I could see the outcome differently, but right now, there appears to be no middle ground here.

Is Canada Preparing for War?

Canada has made it drastically harder to apply for citizenship. The curious issue is the bottom-line concerning the military. There never was a fast track in Canada if you served in their military. All of a sudden, they are now creating a fast track if you serve in the military after increasing the time requirement by 50%. Canada never beefed up its military. This is clearly a total change in direction.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Canada is making the same mistake with their immigrants as the US is. No matter how much training you give these inductees, they lack the motivation to be effective fighters. Soldiers making war thousands of miles from home for a paycheck or a greencard are going to have a rough time against soldiers fighting for their homes and families within eyesight.

Putin: Unilateral US withdrawal from ABM treaty pushing Russia toward new arms race

Global decisions like the US pulling out of a treaty banning strategic anti-ballistic missile defenses are pushing the world towards a new Cold War, Russian President Vladimir Putin said. Military conflicts have a far lesser impact, he added.

“Not military conflicts but global decisions like the US unilateral withdrawal from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty lead to a Cold War,” Putin said. “This more in fact pushes us to a new round of the arms race, because it changes the global security system.”

Decades On, US Will Pay Millions to Vietnam Vets Exposed to Agent Orange

Forty years after the end of the Vietnam War, American veterans are still feeling the effects. But on Thursday, the US government agreed to increase spending on a long-standing health concern, authorizing benefits to American veterans exposed to Agent Orange.

Of the many atrocities inflicted by all parties involved in the conflict, one that has long gone under-addressed is the health effects suffered by active-duty soldiers due to their exposure to Agent Orange residue. A study released by the Institute of Medicine in January found that a number of airmen serving onboard Fairchild C-123 aircraft experience increased health problems due to the chemical agent, which was essentially poured across the jungle as a weaponized herbicide.

Webmaster's Commentary:

“War has been declared on African Americans by the Anglo-American, Nazi terrorist groups and our government is in denial,” he added.

The burnout and a shortage of trained drone pilots has meant the Pentagon has been forced to scale back the number of missions when they are needed most.

'Anti-Israel mandate': UN human rights envoy blocked from entering Gaza

Israeli authorities have admitted they blocked a UN human rights envoy from entering the occupied Gaza area for a second year in a row, just as a UN report on last year’s Gaza war is about to be made public.

China Rising — Pepe Escobar

Americans have to eventually share their preeminent position with China.”

Early on, the Syriza leadership, headed by Alexis Tsipras, adopted several strategic positions with fatal consequences – in terms of implementing their electoral promises to raise living standards, end vassalage to the ‘Troika’ and pursue an independent foreign policy.

We will proceed by outlining the initial systemic failures of Syriza and the subsequent concessions further eroding Greek living standards and deepening Greece’s role as an active collaborator of US and Israeli imperialism.

American dreaming, from G1 to Bilderberg

Russia’s Threatening Response To Pentagon Provocation

Over the weekend the Pentagon announced their intention to store heavy weapons, tanks, Humvees, and Bradley Fighting Vehicles, in several Eastern European nations. Two of these nations, Estonia and Latvia, lie directly on the border with Russia. Such a move would be unprecedented, and is still subject to approval from Washington. A 1997 agreement with Russia currently prohibits the US from positioning these weapons and vehicles in Eastern Europe.

Russian General Yury Yakubov has since responded to the move “If US heavy hardware including tanks, artillery systems, or other fighting vehicles does appear in some Eastern European and Baltic countries, this would mark the Pentagon and NATO’s most aggressive step since the Cold War time of the past century.” and further added that “Russia won’t have anything else to do but bolster its forces and resources on the Western strategic theater of operations.”

I mean, with a leadership that supervised the demolition of its two tallest buildings as a pretext for making war on the world, abandoned its own people by deliberately sending most of its jobs overseas, and lastly, is about to round up and dispose of all its dissenters in the name of falsified terror threats, how could anyone with a functioning brain lend any degree of support to this political monster in Washington that is clearly and deliberately eating its own tail?

And to make it perfectly clear — deliberately destroying its own country at the behest of a demonic foreign power!

'Back to the Future': US Military Preparing Mobilization to Russian Border States

In a move observers say is sure to exacerbate military tensions with Russia, the Pentagon is poised to send enough tanks and heavy artillery for as many as 5,000 U.S. troops to the Eastern Bloc and Baltic States, the Polish Defense Ministry confirmed on Sunday.

Citing anonymous senior officials briefed on the Pentagon proposal, the New York Timesreports that such approval is likely to come from Defense Sectary Ashton Carter and the White House before the NATO defense ministers’ meeting in Brussels, Belgium later this month.

American empire imploding both at home & abroad

For all the massive destructive power in its arsenal, the Vietnamese had exposed US imperialism as a giant with feet of clay. The name given to this period of hard power retreat was the ‘Vietnam syndrome’ and lasted from 1975 to 1991, when the US and an international coalition embarked on the First Gulf War to force Iraqi troops out of Kuwait.

We are witnessing a similar period of US imperial decline now with regard to Washington’s inability to stage large-scale military operations. It arrived as a consequence of the failed occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq, both of which achieved nothing except the eruption of terrorism and extremism across the region, and by extension the world.

Lindsey Graham: Military leaders ‘need to be fired’ if they don’t support my plan for war in Iraq

Republican presidential candidate Lindsey Graham suggested over the weekend that he would fire military leaders who did not support his plan to send 10,000 troops back to Iraq.

The Washington Post reported on Saturday that military officials had cautioned President Barack Obama against sending combat troops to fight the radical Islamic group ISIS in Iraq.

WikiLeaks cables reveal secret Nato plans to defend Baltics from Russia

Washington and its western allies have for the first time since the end of the cold war drawn up classified military plans to defend the most vulnerable parts of eastern Europe against Russian threats, according to confidential US diplomatic cables.

The US state department ordered an information blackout when the decision was taken earlier this year. Since January the blueprint has been refined.

Questions about arms deals for Clinton Foundation donors

Among all the rivers of money that have flowed to the Clinton family, one seems to raise the biggest national security questions of all: the stream of cash that came from 20 foreign governments who relied on weapons export approvals from Hillary Rodham Clinton’s State Department.

Hawkish Hillary Clinton and Her Israel-First Political Sugar Daddy Haim Saban

Considerable attention has been devoted to the millions of dollars Bill and Hillary Clinton have received from wealthy individuals and corporations for their foundation and for themselves.

Hillary Clinton’s greatest billionaire backer has been Haim Saban, a dual United States-Israel citizen and hardline supporter of Israel, who has openly commented, “I’m a one-issue guy, and my issue is Israel.”

It would not be beyond the realm of possibility that those who handed over tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Clinton Foundation (some of which took place while Hillary was Secretary of State) or to the couple themselves for speaker fees expected favors in return.

Ukrainians Dispossessed, Americans are next — Paul Craig Roberts

Americans are already dispossessed of their livelihoods and careers and their pensions are next. Wherever we look, the fate of populations under Western influence are the same. The Ukrainians are exploited, the Greeks, the British, the Americans.

Apologists for exploitation claim that the rich are richer because they are smarter. But the stupidity of the rich is everywhere visible. The greedy fools have destroyed their domestic US market. Really, how stupid can you be? How do Americans buy when they are forced by offshoring out of well paid manufacturing and software engineering jobs into being waitresses, bartenders, retail clerks and part-time Walmart workers in order that corporate bottom lines improve? Who buys the stuff that sustains the profits? Not Americans who no longer have the incomes to do so.

The world of threats to the US is an illusion

When Americans look out at the world, we see a swarm of threats. China seems resurgent and ambitious. Russia is aggressive. Iran menaces our allies. Middle East nations we once relied on are collapsing in flames. Latin American leaders sound steadily more anti-Yankee. Terror groups capture territory and commit horrific atrocities. We fight Ebola with one hand while fending off Central American children with the other.

In fact, this world of threats is an illusion. The United States has no potent enemies. We are not only safe, but safer than any big power has been in all of modern history.

Veterans ripped off by fake research project

A Veterans Administration researcher used actors and pressured veterans into participating in a “secret shopper”-style project, and now the House Veteran Affairs Committee is investigating how the agency spent $900,000 for the faked study.

The head of the study, Dr. Saul Weiner, professor of medicine, pediatrics and medical education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, admitted actors were hired to portray veterans, according to a letter from the committee chairman, Rep. Mike Coffman, R-Colo.

“The actors wore hidden microphones to capture the physician-patient interaction; feigned symptoms that took real appointment slots from veterans and tied up facility resources, such as lab tests, while health-care professionals sought answers to the actor’s fake maladies,” Coffman said.

Iraq Body Count: undercounting death with pro-war cash

An official funding document confirms that the Iraq Body Count (IBC), a widely-respected ‘independent’ antiwar group monitoring Iraq War casualties since its inception in 2003, has received core funding from government agencies complicit in the Iraq War, since 2009. A close review of evidence in the public record also reveals that in 2006, the Pentagon used IBC’s data to legitimise US violence under the military occupation of Iraq.

China confirms test of supersonic nuclear delivery vehicle

Chinese defence ministry has confirmed the test of a supersonic nuclear delivery vehicle, a move described by the US as an “extreme manoeuvre” amid tension in the South China Sea.

The fourth successful test of hypersonic glide vehicle - which the US has dubbed the “Wu-14” - was carried out on Sunday. It was the People Liberation Army’s fourth test of the weapon in 18 months.

“The scheduled scientific research and experiments in our territory is normal, and those tests are not targeted at any country and specific goals,” Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post quoted the defence ministry as saying.

Foreign Policy Nightmare: President Lindsey Graham Would Go To War in Iraq AND Syria

If you want to avoid war, Lindsey Graham has some news for you – do not bother voting for him.

In an interview with Fox News, the would-be Republican Presidential Candidate said this:

“I’m trying to tell the American people, the Republican primary voter: The only way I know to defend this country is to send some of us back to Iraq and eventually to Syria to dig these guys out of the ground, destroy the caliphate, kill as any of them as you can, hold territory and help people over there help themselves.”

‘Mature’ EMP Weapon Ready for War: “Render Enemy’s Electronics, Data Systems Useless”

While governments and the Pentagon are increasingly talking up the need to protect the sensitive power grid and brace for the impact of a potential electromagnetic pulse (EMP) incident, which could come naturally from a solar flare or via an attack by a foreign entity, the Air Force is ready to embrace EMP as the status quo of future warfare.

The Air Force Research Laboratory has been working with Boeing for several years on the perfection, miniaturization and deployment of its Counter-electronics High-powered Advanced Missile Project (CHAMP), which has already been in the arsenal, but which will become increasingly central to the armed forces.
