‘US wanted Sgt Bergdahl back from captivity, but silenced’

The US made an exception for Bowe Bergdahl, swapping him for five Gitmo prisoners as the Pentagon could not afford to have him in captivity forever, former US marine Ross Caputi told RT.But the military did not want Bergdahl to speak, either.

Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl was captured by the Taliban-aligned Haqqani network in eastern Afghanistan in 2009. He was released last May after being swapped for five detainees from the Guantanamo Bay detention camp. Bergdahl was rather critical in his statements about the US Army. In his e-mails to the parents sergeant wrote: “I’m ashamed to be an American. The US army is the biggest joke the world has to laugh at. It is the army of liars, backstabbers, fools and bullies.” Now the US government wants to charge Bergdahl with desertion.

Here's Some Frightening Honesty (Courtesy Of The US Congress)

A member of my staff caught an obscure resolution that was introduced in the US House of Representatives last week—Resolution no. 41.

The fact that there was essentially no coverage of this Resolution really shows how the mainstream media is completely turning a blind eye to the true fiscal situation of the United States of America.

The entire point of the resolution is to say that the federal government is broke.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Resolution 41 admits the federal Government is basically broke, and recommends that the federal Government which allowed (even encouraged) the 2008 mortgage-backed securities fraud that emptied state and privater pension funds not be responsible for bailing them out, and that these defunded pension funds "restructure" to reduce costs (meaning cheat the people dependent on those pensions).

American Sniper has warped fragile little minds

How does modern propaganda work? How effective is it? Adam blows these issues wide open with an incredible series of man on the street interviews. For the record, this was not a selective group, or even in a particularly conservative or pro-military area. The people you see in this video were the first seven people on the 3rd St Promenade in Santa Monica, California who answered yes to, "Did you see American Sniper? Do you think Chris Kyle is a hero? Would you like to do a quick interview for my YouTube channel?" I was simply seeking a good age and gender variety.

Death squad insurgents are US proxies. Recruited, armed, funded, trained and directed by CIA operatives and Pentagon special forces.

So-called IS, Nusra Front, Al Qaeda and other takfiri terrorists are imported from dozens of countries.

Longstanding US/Israeli plans call for regime change. Replacing Assad with pro-Western stooge governance.

Retroactively Authorizing War

They went largely unnoticed, four words President Obama ad-libbed during the State of the Union address last month as he asked lawmakers to provide legal cover for America’s military intervention in Iraq and Syria.

“We need that authority,” the president said, adding a line to the prepared remarks on his teleprompter that seemed to acknowledge a reality about which his administration has been inexcusably dishonest.

Russian aggression and the BBC’s drums of nuclear war

The drums of war are beating on the BBC and other mass media, writes Oliver Tickell – naked propaganda about fictitious ‘Russian aggression’ intended to soften us up for a war that could wipe out life on Earth.
We must refuse to fall for the endlessly repeated lies, and tell our politicians that our highest priority of all is peace.

Webmaster's Commentary:

My reply to BBC and indeed all corporate media. Feel free to use as a template for your own emails.

Corporate media assured us that the USS Main was sunk by a Spanish mine in Havana Harbor, even though Captain Sigsbee reported the cause as an on-board fire. This story of a Spanish mine by the corporate media allowed President McKinley to trick the American people into the Spanish American war. An investigation carried out by Admiral Hyman G. Rickover, the father of America's Nuclear Navy, confirmed Sigbee's report. There had been no Spanish mine.

Corporate media assured us that the Lusitania was not carrying weapons when it was sunk by a German U-Boat, even though the German government had taken out ads in the New York papers warning passengers not to sail on that ship. This story of the sinking of an innocent passenger ship allowed President Woodrow Wilson to trick the American people into World War 1 and divert the war from the original belligerents, Austria-Hungary and Serbia, into a war against Germany. In the 1980s, divers entered the hold of the Lusitania and confirmed it had been smuggling weapons of war to Britain.

Corporate media assured us that North Vietnam launched a torpedo attack against the USS Maddox in the Gulf of Tonkin in August 4th, 1964. Even though Captain Herrick reported that the sonar detection of torpedoes by the Maddox had been an error by an inexperienced sonar operator, the claim of a torpedo attack allowed President Johnson to trick Congress into escalating the Vietnam war.

Corporate media assured is Saddam Hussein had nuclear weapons. Need I say more?

So why would anyone believe the corporate media today when they assure us Russia has invaded Ukraine?

Islamic State operative confesses to receiving funding through US - report

A man believed to be a Pakistani commander of Islamic State or Daish, Yousaf al Salafi, has confessed to law enforcement agencies in Pakistan to getting funds via the United States, according to a leading Pakistani newspaper siting its sources.

Al Salafi and two companions were arrested in Lahore, Pakistan on January 22, according to AFP.

“During investigations, Yousaf al Salafi revealed that he was getting funding – routed through America – to run the organization in Pakistan and recruit young people to fight in Syria,” a source close to the investigations revealed toUrdu-language Daily Express on condition of anonymity, according to its sister English newspaper The Express Tribune. The newspaper also claimed that Al Salafi was in fact arrested last year sometime in December.

Israel may be arming Al-Qaeda in Syria

A perennial PR theme of the Syrian regime since the civil war and uprising erupted in March 2011 was that the opposition was all Islamist extremists and Al-Qaeda, and that there were no secular or democratic forces involved in the uprising against the government.

On Monday, in an interview with Foreign Affairs magazine, Bashar Al-Assad reiterated this accusation. He also alleged Israel is helping Al-Qaeda in Syria. He said that some Syrians joke, semi-seriously: "How can you say that Al-Qaeda doesn't have an air force? They have the Israeli air force." He claimed that periodic Israeli strikes on Syrian army positions all seemed well-timed to coincide with rebel offensives.

According to director Clint Eastwood, “American Sniper” makes an anti-war statement. Maybe. And it is surely not gratuitously violent, like so many other movies which do not even concern war. Every shot, as it were, counts.

But this is not just an anti-war film; like so many other war films produced by Hollywood, it is insulting to our military. Here is why.

Pentagon Silent on Current Use of DU in Iraq

Back in October, I reported that, "A type of airplane, the A-10, deployed this month to the Middle East by the U.S. Air National Guard's 122nd Fighter Wing, is responsible for more Depleted Uranium (DU) contamination than any other platform, according to the International Coalition to Ban Uranium Weapons (ICBUW). . . . Pentagon spokesman Mark Wright told me, 'There is no prohibition against the use of Depleted Uranium rounds, and the [U.S. military] does make use of them. The use of DU in armor-piercing munitions allows enemy tanks to be more easily destroyed.'"

Hillary Clinton’s ‘WMD’ moment: U.S. intelligence saw false narrative in Libya

Moammar Gadhafi from power, an event that has left his country in chaos, according to officials with direct knowledge of the dispute.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US invaded Libya because Gaddafi shut down the private central bank, created a state central bank and a value-based currency called the Gold Dinar. Then he announced that Libya's oil was for sale, but only for the Gold Dinar. That was a direct threat to the hegemony of the US dollar/petrodollar.

VIDEO: Birds of a Feather: John McCain Defends Henry Kissinger

Yet, while McCain’s support of the Vietnam war, Iraq War, Syrian War, Libyan war, and virtually every war that was ever waged and those that ever will be waged upon the face of the earth, has resulted in the death of millions of people, McCain found himself in the presence of one of the true kings of killing in Henry Kissinger.

Indeed, Kissinger is one of the true living figures whose feet most psychopathic killers the world over still long to kneel at.

Kissinger’s direction of the Chilean coup, Vietnam war, Cambodian andLaotian tragedies, and his famousNational Security Study Memorandum 200: Implications of Worldwide Population Growth for U.S. Security and Overseas Interests (NSSM200) has earned him a special place amongst the world’s most effective mass murders, although admittedly not the most widely known.

Netanyahu speech scandal blows up, and ‘soiled’ Dermer looks like the fall guy

With even AIPAC washing its hands of the speech, it sure looks as if Israel supporters want an exit from this fiasco. Jettisoning Israeli ambassador Ron Dermer or cancelling the speech would seem like a small price to pay in the news cycle next to a spectacle in which leading Democrats are forced to line up against Netanyahu in Washington, even as they file in and out of the AIPAC policy conference and praise Israel to the skies.

Here are the developments. First, the New York Times’ Julie Hirschfeld Davis has a report of unleashed White House fury over the invitation. The story contains the signal that Ron Dermer, the Israeli ambassador, will be the fall guy for the scandal:

‘NYT’ perpetuates myth Israel was ‘fighting for its very survival’ during 1967 war

Yes, Israeli soldiers, like much of the world, believed at the time that Israel faced an existential threat, as Arab armies poised on Israel’s borders while Radio Cairo broadcast bloodcurdling threats. But military and intelligence leaders in both Tel Aviv and Washington knew better.

Consider the testimony of Prime Minister Menachem Begin, a member of the cabinet in June 1967:

“In June 1967, we again had a choice. The Egyptian Army concentrations in the Sinai approaches do not prove that Nasser was really about to attack us. We must be honest with ourselves. We decided to attack him.”

Air Force investigate Major General 'who told officers that talking to members of Congress about A-10 attack aircraft was equivalent to TREASON'

The Air Force is probing allegations that a Major General told lower-ranking officers that talking to members of Congress about the capabilities of the A-10 attack aircraft is equivalent to treason.

The alleged comment by Maj. Gen. James Post, a prominent leader at the prestigious Air Combat Command, has stirred concern in Congress about the Air Force muzzling officers in violation of their legal rights.

Air Force leaders have proposed retiring the A-10 fleet but Congress has refused, and some inside the Air Force have sided with Congress.

Russia’s Nuclear Weapons Upgraded, U.S. Missile Defense Can’t Stop Them, Claim Russians

Both the Russian and U.S. military continue to stoke World War 3 fears, with a Russian deputy prime minister now claiming that Russia’s nuclear weapons cannot be stopped by U.S. missile defense systems in the event the new Cold War becomes hot.

Pentagon documents: Obama to request big defense budget hike

Obama will ask for $534 billion for the core budget of the Defense Department — a $38 billion increase — according to "pre-decisional" Pentagon documents obtained by The Associated Press on Tuesday. That means there could be some slight changes when the budget actually comes out Monday.

The Pentagon witnessed major budget cuts with the imposition of so-called budget sequestration in 2013 and has been held at a freeze since then. Military brass say the bleaker budgets have forced cuts in flying hours, troop training and maintenance of military equipment. The agency was due for just a $3 billion increase under caps set in a 2011 budget pact.

The increases are likely to find support among defense hawks on Capitol Hill, but Republicans controlling Congress are only in the early stages of figuring out how to pay for them. Simply taking the money from domestic agencies is sure to be opposed by the White House and could lead to gridlock in Washington.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Republican-controlled Congress will do what it has traditionally done to enhance the military budget; gut social programs as completely as humanly possible to avoid making up the short fall in new taxes.

The Next War In The Middle East Has Begun And Israel Vows ‘To Act Powerfully On All Fronts’

Israel and Hezbollah are at war. On top of everything else that is going on in the world, now we have a new war in the Middle East, and nobody is quite certain what is going to happen next. Israel has been preparing for this moment for more than 8 years. So has Hezbollah. According to some reports, Hezbollah has amassed an arsenal of 50,000 rockets since the end of the Hezbollah-Israel war in 2006. If all-out warfare does erupt, we could potentially see tens of thousands of missiles rain down into an area not too much larger than the state of New Jersey. And of course the Israeli military is also much more sophisticated and much more powerful than it was back in 2006. If cooler heads do not prevail, we could be on the verge of witnessing a very bloody war. But right now nobody seems to be in the mood to back down.

Waging A Phony War on Terror. “Terrorists R US” Defines U.S. Foreign Policy

Waging it isn’t new. Enemies are needed. When none exist they’re invented.

Reagan denounced the “evil scourge of terrorism.” Specifically state-sponsored international terrorism. The “plague of the modern age,” he said.

His Secretary of State George Schultz called it “modern barbarism. (A) form of political violence. (A) threat to Western civilization. (A) menace to Western moral values.”

GW Bush declared war on terrorism. To “rid the world of evildoers. (N)ot let evil stand.”

Orwell said political rhetoric defends the indefensible. So-called wars on terrorism are wars of terrorism. State-sponsored. Against designated individuals, groups or nations.

The late Howard Zinn asked “(h)ow can you make war on terrorism if war is terrorism.” Governments are the greatest terrorist threats.

“Everything in American Sniper is taken for fact when the author and focus Chris Kyle already had been proven to have been a blowhard and a liar, when the facts and political motivations of Selma are being questioned,” Cindy Sheehan states. “As is the US addicted to its wars, it is also addicted to lying about them and I know this because I have my own case about Casey for proof.”

LaRouche Warns: Wall Street's Growing Desperation Is Fueling Global Thermonuclear Showdown

Wall Street is on the edge of another financial tsunami, and this is driving the world towards general war, with the latest provocations in Ukraine serving as the immediate trigger for confrontation with Russia.

As Citibank was the latest of the Wall Street too-big-to-fail banks to post serious fourth-quarter losses, and as the Wall Street banks were announcing 50,000 layoffs, half-way around the globe the Ukrainian government was launching new provocations against Russia, meeting with top NATO generals and announcing a draft to call up 100,000 new troops to launch a military offensive against its own citizens in eastern Ukraine.

Obama won’t meet Netanyahu during ‘bizarre,’ ‘historic,’ ‘unprecedented’ visit

White House and State Department won’t meet with Netanyahu on his March visit to address both houses of Congress. Emergency Committee for Israel calls this a snub.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I agree with Obama on this one. Netanyahu and Boehner are trying to hijack the AMERICAN Congress to serve Israel's agenda. Obama knows that war with Iran means war with Russia and while a degree of conflict is desired to forestall the rise of the Ruble, all-out war will cost millions of lives and there is the real possibility the US will lose.

Israel, like the bankers, doesn't care who wins or loses so long as their personal wealth and power are elevated in the process. Obama, in his final two years in office and no longer dependent on Israeli support for future elections, seems to be looking at the situation from the point of view of the US, and that is a good thing!

Obama Ensures His Status as War President

Ending the US occupation of Iraq in 2011, President Obama tried to portray himself as a peacemaker. He’s still trying to sell that narrative, even as he quickly escalates in his new Iraq war.

The State of the Union address nominally continued that story, but between talking up further escalation of the ISIS war, and commanders suggesting they could extend the Afghan occupation even further, President Obama’s status as a war-time president from start to finish seems secured.

L.A. Times Sues Pentagon for Info on Sputtering $40-Billion Missile System

The U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) has spent at least $40 billion on a controversial anti-missile defense system—aimed at thwarting rogue states like North Korea and Iran—which has, so far, registered a test success-rate of less than 50%.

Los Angeles Times reporter David Willman has written in the past about a quick deployment of the Ground-based Midcourse Defense System (GMD), without the usual testing regimen, after President George W. Bush ordered it up in 2002. The expensive remnant of President Reagan’s failed Star Wars system, which has been operational since 2004, has come under close scrutiny as its test record continues to decline.

US Trainers To Deploy To Ukraine

American soldiers will deploy to Ukraine this spring to begin training four companies of the Ukrainian National Guard, the head of US Army Europe Lt. Gen Ben Hodges said during his first visit to Kiev on Wednesday.

Israel’s Netanyahu Was Imported by GOP to Ensure a War with Iran

Republican House Majority leader John Boehner secretly invited Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to Washington to address Congress and then once it was set up he let Barack Obama know about it.

The reason for bringing Netanyahu is that Boehner wants to craft a super-majority in Congress that can over-ride Obama’s veto of new sanctions on Iran. He doesn’t have enough Republican votes to do so, but if he can get Democrats beholden to the Israel lobbies of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee to join the veto over-ride effort, he might succeed.

“American Sniper” dangerously racist propaganda

Dangerously racist propaganda appears to be working like a charm, the operative word being “appears to be.” Who knows who’s tweeting this shit? It could be an army of paid propagandists or autobots.

Remember, racism is a vital weapon used by governments to wage war.

Also, as a footnote, American sniper, apart from being a serial killer and psycho was also a liar.

Nick Turse, A Shadow War in 150 Countries

From the point of view of the U.S. military and the national security state, the period from September 12, 2001, to late last night could be summed up in a single word: more. What Washington funded with your tax dollars was a bacchanalia of expansion intended, as is endlessly reiterated, to keep America “safe.” But here’s the odd thing: as the structure of what’s always called “security” is built out ever further into our world and our lives, that world only seems to become less secure. Odder yet, that “more” is rarely a focus of media coverage, though its reality is glaringly obvious. The details may get coverage but the larger reality -- the thing being created in Washington -- seems of remarkably little interest.

ARMS TO AL-QAEDA: U.S. Generals Admit Washington Has Backed Islamic Militants in Syria

If you believe all of the pre-packaged government and corporate media propaganda, then you might think that ISIS is just another evil, grassroots Salafist militant movement, one with no connections at all to foreign intelligence agencies like the CIA, Britain’s MI6, Turkish (NATO) intelligence, Saudi intelligence, Israeli intelligence, or Pakistan’s ISI.

Well, you might just be wrong…

Is Barack Obama Actually Trying To Help ISIS Take Over Syria?

That headline sounds crazy, right? It must be untrue, right? Well, read on, because you might be absolutely shocked by what you learn. As you will read about below, the Obama administration has used al-Qaeda fighters and other radical Islamic groups in the past to topple governments. And without a doubt, Barack Obama is absolutely determined to oust Syrian president Bashar al-Assad. In fact, he came dangerously close to taking us to war with Syria earlier in his presidency before backing down in the face of overwhelming public pressure. But what Obama wants to do in Syria has not changed, and he is using the same playbook that he used in Libya and elsewhere to get it done.

Did a Russian Parliamentarian Just Commit Treason?

An interesting thing happened in Washington recently, and it had nothing to do with Beltway politics, Democrats vs. Republicans, or any of the other standard fare for the middle of the week in mid-January. Rather, a relatively small, little publicized event took place at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a prominent liberal-leaning think tank in Washington.

The event, “Russia’s Opposition in a Time of War and Crisis,” featured prominent Russian liberal opposition parliamentarian (member of the Russian Duma) Ilya Ponomarev, a noted critic of Russian President Putin, providing a detailed presentation regarding the current political climate in Russia, and the potential for the ousting or overthrow of the Russian government. Yes, you heard that right. A Russian elected official came to the United States to give a talk about how best to effect regime change in his own country.

US war against ISIL is ‘total fraud’ to create a CIA base: Journalist

A Pentagon plan to arm and train the so-called moderate militants in Syria to fight against the ISIL terrorist group is a “total fraud” and “bogus” claim to carve out a CIA base in the region, an American journalist in Missouri says.

The United States is fighting a “multi-front war” against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad because he operates independently from the West, said Dean Henderson, an author and columnist at Veterans Today.

Who Will Stand With Venezuela?

Who in the world stands with a country when it is under the looming threat of a major U.S. government intervention? When Guatemala (1954), the Dominican Republic (1965), Chile (1973), and Haiti (2004) were in trouble, there was no one. Cuba was different; over the years, at different times, the Soviet Union, Latin American countries, and nations voting in the UN General Assembly all weighed in with support and solidarity. And Cuba’s socialist revolution survives.

Now the U. S. government targets Venezuela, its socialist government and national sovereignty. This time, however, the intended victim is not alone.

"Next Time Around The Feds Are Going To Have To Confiscate Stuff"

In short, enjoy the $2.50-a-gallon fill-ups while you can, grasshoppers, because when the current crop of fast-depleting shale oil wells dries up, that will be all she wrote. When all those bonds held up on their skyhook derivative hedges go south, there will be no more financing available for the entire shale oil project. No more high-yield bonds will be issued because the previous issues defaulted. Very few new wells (if any) will be drilled. American oil production will not return to its secondary highs (after the 1970 all-time high) of 2014-15. The wish of American energy independence will be steaming over the horizon on the garbage barge of broken promises. And all, that, of course, is only one part of the story, because there is the social and political fallout to follow.

Over the weekend, multiple Academy members told TheWrap that they had been passing around a recent article by Dennis Jett in The New Republic that attacks the film for making a hero out of Kyle, who said: “The enemy are savages and despicably evil,” and his “only regret is that I didn’t kill more.” Kyle made the statements in his best-selling book, “American Sniper,” on which the film is based.

HRW urges Kiev to acknowledge cluster bomb use, stop indiscriminate killings in E. Ukraine

During his visit to Germany earlier in January, Yatsenyuk was questioned by Frankfurter Allgemeine on the cluster bombs and Grad multiple rocket launchers against town and villages in southeast Ukraine.

But the prime minister rejected the allegation, saying that “there is no evidence to that. No evidence,” and suggested that more attention should be paid to the Republic of Crimea, which reunited with Russia in March 2014.

However, Roth told RIA-Novosti news agency that Yatsenyuk lied to the German media as Human Right Watch (HRW) had “published a lot of evidence that Ukraine refuses to distinguish between military targets and civilians as required by the laws and customs of war."

The rights watchdog has presented detailed information on those violations during meetings with the Kiev authorities in November and December last year, he said.

An Afghan training base that melted in the rain? US wasted billions on botched projects: watchdog

The United States wasted nearly $500,000 on an Afghan police training center that began to fall apart only months after it was built due to shoddy contractor work, according to a watchdog report released Thursday.

The center’s adobe-style brick buildings were supposed to replicate an Afghan village to allow the country’s special police to practice search operations but the roof and walls began “melting” away in the rain four months after it was completed, said the report by John Sopko, Washington’s special inspector general for Afghanistan reconstruction (SIGAR).

Déjà vu in France

I’m getting a big déjà vu feeling in the aftermath of the Charlie Hebdo killings in France.

The French government is declaring war on terrorism. It’s militarizing French society. It’s proposing a Patriot Act. It’s supporting a mass surveillance scheme. It’s advocating killing more people in the Middle East. There is even talk of using military tribunals to try terrorism cases.

Hey, those were all things that U.S. officials did after the 9/11 attacks. No wonder I’m getting a déjà vu feeling!

I’ll bet the German people are getting a bit of déjà vu too. That’s because their former president, Adolf Hitler, took the same sort of measures after the terrorist attack on the Reichstag. That’s what the Enabling Act was all about.

Why America Keeps Losing Its Wars

In the aftermath of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the president asked Congress for a Declaration of War, got it, and began to steel the nation for the sacrifices necessary for victory. In the aftermath of September 11, 2001, the president cowed Congress into ceding its war-making powers (in the form of an authorization for the use of military force), sent the military into indecisive action in Afghanistan, declared war on a country uninvolved in the 9/11 attacks (Iraq), and sent the American people to shop.

Well into its second decade, the undeclared and undefined “Global War on Terror” has yet to gain any measure of security for America’s profligate expenditure of lives and treasure.

The framers of the U.S. Constitution, establishing our country as a republic, wanted no part of a system that codified the executive as the decider of war and peace.

Marching Towards Disaster: What’s Really Behind The U.S. Push In The Asia-Pacific?

On the sidelines of the Group of Twenty (G20) Summit in Brisbane, US President Barack H. Obama delivered a keynote speech to diplomats, policymakers, faculty members, and students at the University of Queensland on the United States of America’s foreign policy and Obama’s so-called “Asian pivot” or “pivot to Asia.”

In 2013, a report by Brian Andrews and Kurt Campbell for the British think-tank Chatham House described Washington’s redeployment efforts in the Asia-Pacific region like this: “The United States government is in the early stages of a substantial national project: reorienting significant elements of its foreign policy towards the Asia-Pacific region and encouraging many of its partners outside the region to do the same.”

The Spectacular Media Failure on Charlie Hebdo

A core tenet of journalism is answering the question “why.” It’s the media’s duty to explain “why” an event happened so that readers will actually understand what they’re reading. Leave out the “why” and then assumptions and stereotypes fill in the blank, always readily supplied by politicians whose ridiculous answers are left unquestioned by the corporate media.

Because the real “why” was unexplained in the Charlie Hebdo massacre, an obviously false culprit was created, leading to a moronic national discussion in the U.S. media about whether Islam was “inherently” violent.

For the media to even pose this question either betrays a blinding ignorance about the Middle East and Islam, or a conscious willingness to manipulate public sentiment by only interviewing so-called experts who believe such nonsense.

“Boots On The Ground”? Obama To Seek Authorization For Military Force Against ISIS

Having unveiled his non-boots-on-the-ground strategy in September, President Obama’s “promise” was quickly proved fragile when General Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, indicated to the House of Representatives armed services committee that the strength of ISIS relative to the Iraqi army may be such that he would recommend abandoning Obama’s oft-repeated pledge against returning US ground troops to combat in Iraq. It seems another promise is about to be broken as Bloomberg reports Senator John Cornyn said President Obama told congressional leaders during meeting today at White House he would seek authorization for military force on Islamic State. Boehner’s office, in separate statement after meeting, said Republicans would work with him to build support.
