Top Democrat backs bill okaying Congress to sink Iran deal

Defying White House, Senator Chuck Schumer endorses legislation intended to enable lawmakers to kill nuclear accord with Tehran

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is time to arrest Schumer and every other member of Congress acting on Israel's desire to kill the Iran deal for violating the Logan Act. The reason for foreign policy to be handled by the State Department and the White House is to provide a reliable single point of contact for foreign governments, in order to avoid the very situation we are in now, with foreign leaders unable to determ, ine what is or is not official US policy.

U.S. plan to shut down cell phones and internet in energency. Court ruled no disclosure. Flashback: U.S. condemns cell phone and internet shut down in Egypt and Syria

It seems the courts through a Freedom of information act lawsuit is standing by the U.S. government and not allowing the release of the U.S. governments plan to shut down the internet and cell phone service (plan SOP303) in times of emergencies. In other words if there was civil unrest.

The reason why the lawsuit was filed in the first place was due to when all cell phone service was cut in San Francisco during the BART unrest.

EPIC asked the court to revisit its ruling, arguing that the decision, "if left in place, would create an untethered 'national security' exemption'" in FOIA law. On Friday, the court ordered (PDF) the government to respond—a move that suggests the appellate court might rehear the case.

The Iran Nuclear Energy Agreement: Force Again Prevails Over Law — Paul Craig Roberts

The real question, however, is on what basis can Iran possibly trust Washington?

Iran should ask former Soviet president Gorbachev what Washington’s word is worth. In exchange for Gorbachev’s agreement to the reunification of Germany, Washington promised Gorbachev that NATO would not move one inch to the East and promptly took NATO to Russia’s border and is now working to incorporate former parts of the Russian empire into NATO.

Iran should ask current Russian president Putin what Washington’s word is worth. Sensing Russian strategic weakness, the George W. Bush regime broke the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty that Washington had signed with Moscow. Pulling out of the treaty, Washington quickly put anti-ballistic missile bases on Russia’s borders, hoping to degrade Russia’s strategic missile forces that serve as a guardian against Washington’s first nuclear strike, a policy now permissible under Washington’s revised war doctrine.

Authentic Journalism that Challenges Empire and Its Centers of Power

Exposing Lies of the Empire is a monumental work.

Some years back, I was approached to come up with a story that I’d really like to cover. There were many, but right away I was drawn to a story whose angle was completely marginalized in any media I had checked. I was interested to go to Zimbabwe and get a genuine impression from Zimbabweans of how they view the direction of their country under the government of Robert Mugabe. How they viewed the redistribution of land within the country.

Top Donor to Clinton Foundation (jewish) Oligarch in Ukraine

Follow the Money

Between 2009 and 2013, including when Mrs. Clinton was secretary of state, the Clinton Foundation received at least $8.6 million from the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, based in Kiev, Ukraine.

In 2008, Mr. Pinchuk made a five-year, $29 million commitment to the Clinton Global Initiative, a wing of the foundation that coordinates charitable projects and funding for them but doesn’t handle the money. The pledge was to fund a program to train future Ukrainian leaders and professionals “to modernize Ukraine,” according to the Clinton Foundation.

It said that if Mr. Pinchuk was lobbying the State Department about Ukraine, “this cannot be seen as anything but a good thing.”

Oh certainly, all you have to do is take a brief look at Ukraine to see what a wonderful thing it has been.

Corker Says Support Growing to Give Congress Vote on Iran Deal

The Republican chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee said Sunday he’s within a few votes of being able to override a threatened presidential veto of his bill giving Congress a say in any nuclear deal with Iran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Congress can declare or refuse to declare a war. Short of that, the Constitution states that foreign policy is exclusively the jurisdiction of the White House and the US Department of State. Every member of Congress championing Israel's agenda against Iran is in violation of the Logan Act.

Mitch McConnell: Congress to 'respond legislatively' to Iran nuclear bill

Fresh off a trip to the Middle East, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is insisting that Congress get a chance to review and approve a nuclear deal with Iran.

McConnell visited Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Afghanistan last week with a Senate delegation. On Thursday, a framework for a nuclear deal with Iran, the U.S. and five other world powers was announced — much to the dismay of many Republican lawmakers.

Israel recognition not part of Iran deal: Obama

US President Barack Obama says recognition of Israel cannot be a part of the nuclear agreement with Iran.

Obama said in a Monday interview with NPR that requiring Tehran to recognize Israel is a "fundamental misjudgment".

The Israeli regime has outspokenly voiced opposition since talks began between Tehran and the P5+1 –the US, Britain, Russia, China, France, and Germany -- in an effort to reach a comprehensive accord on Iran’s nuclear program.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said earlier that recognition of the regime by Iran must a part of the deal.

Netanyahu in US media blitz against Iran deal

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu launched a frontal propaganda attack on US President Barack Obama yesterday on the major US television networks, in an effort to counter the White House's aggressive sales campaign on behalf of the framework agreement on Iran's nuclear program reached last week, aimed at legislators on Capitol Hill and at the US public at large.

Obama and his aides have been using the Easter weekend to speak to senators and representatives from both the Democratic and Republican parties in an attempt to persuade them that the proposed agreement with Iran is the most effective way of blocking Iran's path to a nuclear weapon. For Netanyahu, the most important target audience is Democratic legislators torn between their loyalty to Obama and their traditional support for Israel. In the end, it is the Democratic legislators who will decide whether the Senate will be able to override a presidential veto on legislation designed to overturn the deal with Iran.

It’s a good one – but can it survive the US Congress?

Israel has been threatening to attack Iran unilaterally for years, including during these negotiations, and they are not above launching a provocation – one that will ignite a conflict that would envelope the entire Middle East and much of the world.

As I said in my last column, the US Congress is the catch, the fly in the ointment that could nix this deal and lead us down the path to another war in the Middle East. Nothing has been signed. What we have is a framework, one that will lead to a fuller agreement in June – if Congress doesn’t step in and stop it.

* preventing the rise of any society that might serve as a successful example of an alternative to the capitalist model;
* extending political and economic hegemony over as wide an area as possible, as befits a "great power."

Did US CENTCOM Feed Saudis Target Info to Bomb Russian Consulate in Yemen?

Washington war planners are up to their old tricks again, this time in Yemen.

Saudi Arabia’s gallant airstrikes against mostly civilian and infrastructure targets (not rebels, as advertized) have also stuck the Russian Consulate General in the southwestern Yemeni city of Aden.

When Saudi Arabia launched its war against Yemen on the week of March 23th, the US proudly announced that they’re hands were clean because they were only providing ‘satellite’ information, military intelligence which included targeting information to the Saudi Air force – so then it’s fairly obvious that the target information for the Russian embassy was fed to the Saudis by the US CENTCOM. Not surprisingly then, as the Saudis hit and mostly destroyed the Russian consulate yesterday, the US then issued a swift U-turn on that previous statement, suddenly claiming, “We’re not providing them with targeting information.”

Federal appeals court to weigh Hillary Clinton documents

Adding she’s got nothing to hide and in fact: “to be clear, she remains ready to appear at a hearing open to the American public.”

Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Bomb?

I must start with a shocking confession: I am not afraid of the Iranian nuclear bomb.

I know that this makes me an abnormal person, almost a freak.

But what can I do? I am unable to work up fear, like a real Israeli. Try as I may, the Iranian bomb does not make me hysterical.

My father once taught me how to withstand blackmail: imagine that the awful threat of the blackmailer has already come about. Then you can tell him: Go to hell.

I have tried many times to follow this advice and found it sound. So now I apply it to the Iranian bomb: I imagine that the worst has already happened: the awful ayatollahs have got the bombs that can eradicate little Israel in a minute.

So what?

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am totally in agreement. Iran should be allowed to have a nuclear bomb.

Let us start with the fact that Iran has not invaded another country in a war of aggression in over 200 years, standing in sharp contrast with Israel and the United States, which these days cannot seem to go three months without invading, bombing, drone striking, or overthrowing some other nation.

Then let us talk numbers. Let is suppose Iran has one or two nuclear weapons. Israel, now confirmed to have had nuclear weapons since the 1970s, has anywhere from 200 to 800 nuclear weapons, including hydrogen bombs that the US helped it develop, according to a recently declassified US document. Israel has so many nuclear weapons that they tried to sell one to the former government of South Africa, according to documents released by the new government of South Africa. The United States has thousands of nuclear weapons, enough to destroy the surface of planet Earth, and bounce the rubble for an encore. So if Iran had one or two nuclear weapons, they might put them in a museum or march them down the main street of Tehran in a military parade, but they are not going to attack either the US or Israel, because the end result would be Iran melted into a giant slab of green glass.

What an Iranian nuclear bomb does accomplish is to make it far more costly for either Israel or the United States to invade Iran. That the US and Israel want to attack Iran is no secret; both have been talking about such a plan for decades. Israel wants to smash a regional political rival (as they did in Iraq) while the US wants to restore Iran to US puppet rule in order to profit from Iran's oil. The push to prevent Iran from creating a nuclear weapon is not based on fears of an Iranian attack but fears of an Iran invulnerable to conquest. For the people of the world, already weary of war after 12 years, allowing Iran to have a nuclear deterrent seems like a good way to reduce the possibility of these wars expanding into an all out World War III in which nuclear weapons inevitably will be used by the US, Israel, and anyone else who has them.

And please keep in mind that despite all the talk about Iraq's non-existent nuclear weapons and Iran's non-existent nuclear weapons, only one nation has actually used nuclear weapons against the civilians of another country; the United States. If any nation should be barred from having nuclear weapons, we should start with the nation with a history of using them!

Why Iran Distrusts the US in Nuke Talks

The Iranians may be a bit paranoid but, as the saying goes, this does not mean some folks are not out to get them. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his knee-jerk followers in Washington clearly are out to get them – and they know it.

Nowhere is this clearer than in the surreal set of negotiations in Switzerland premised not on evidence, but rather on an assumption of Iran’s putative “ambition” to become a nuclear weapons state – like Israel, which maintains a secret and sophisticated nuclear weapons arsenal estimated at about 200 weapons. The supposed threat is that Iran might build one.

US ‘helped Israel build hydrogen bomb’: declassified report

CHINA TARGETS DOLLAR, WASHINGTON HAS CONNIPTIONS

Now even Israel – joined at the hip to the US though the relationship has run into rough waters – has applied to become a founding member of the China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. Despite US gyrations to keep them from it, over 40 countries, including bosom buddies Australia, Britain, and Germany, have signed up to join. Japan is still wavering politely. The US government sees the China-dominated AIIB as competition to the US-dominated World Bank and Asian Development Bank. But now that it is clear even to the White House that the US can’t stop the tide, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew backpedaled vigorously on Tuesday. The government would welcome the AIIB, he suddenly said, as long as certain conditions are met, such as adequate transparency.

Yemen Echoes of 1930s Aggression and Descent into Barbarism

The latest Saudi-led military intervention in Yemen, overseen by Washington, has been condemned by Iran, Russia and China.

Both the Arab League and the United Nations have fully transformed themselves into the ill-fated League of Nations that more than 70 years ago disgraced itself into oblivion when it failed to condemn foreign aggressions that eventually led to the cataclysm of World War Two.

As delegates gathered in Egypt’s resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh for the Arab League last weekend, nearly half of its member states were at the same time openly engaged in an aerial blitz on one of the League’s weakest countries – Yemen.

In Yemen, and Middle East, U.S. Needs to Learn When to Quit

Author’s note: The New York Times’ Room For Debate poses the question “Is Yemen America’s fight?” and asks whether the United States should be involved in regional efforts to fight the Houthis in Yemen.

Here’s my short essay on why the US has no business being there – and why Washington needs to rein in the Saudis before they embroil us all in an even bigger mess.

At the rate the Saudis are escalating, any full-on war in Yemen will cripple the entire Arabian Peninsula, and that would be a disaster for all key U.S. policy interests in the region.

Dimitry Orlov: The USA's License to Kill

....Americans like their weapons, and they like handing them out as a show of support. But more often than not these weapons end up in the wrong hands: the ones they gave to Iraq are now in the hands of ISIS; the ones they gave to the Ukrainian nationalists have been sold to the Syrian government; the ones they gave to the government in Yemen is now in the hands of the Houthis who recently overthrew it. And so the efficacy of lavish military spending has dwindled too. At some point it may become more efficient to modify the US Treasury printing presses to blast bundles of US dollars in the general direction of the enemy.

With the strategy of “destroying in order to create” no longer viable, but with the blind ambition to still try to prevail everywhere in the world somehow still part of the political culture, all that remains is murder. The main tool of foreign policy becomes political assassination: be it Saddam Hussein, or Muammar Qaddafi, or Slobodan Miloševi?, or Osama bin Laden, or any number of lesser targets, the idea is to simply kill them.

IS CHINESE THEFT OF MONSANTO GMO CORN SEEDS A NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUE OR JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF SLEAZY BUSINESS?

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) employed tools designed to be used against terrorists when going after two Chinese nationals for trying to steal genetically modified corn seeds and send them back to China.

The case against Mo Hailong and Mo Yun was brought after the FBI suspected the siblings of plotting to steal patented seeds from companies including DuPont Pioneer and Monsanto and ship them home so a Chinese agriculture company, the Beijing Dabeinong Technology Group, could grow genetically modified corn. In going after the brother and sister, and five others, the FBI invoked the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which is best known for being used to track down terrorists, so agents could gather evidence against the defendants.

Hillary Clinton’s Legal Downfall to the U.S. Presidency

Hillary Rodham Clinton, as an attorney who, therefore, cannot plead ignorance of the law, has broken one specific law of the United States that, probably, should have her fined and/or in jail—or both! And with no exceptions, exemptions or presidential pardons! That law is U.S. Code Title 18, Part 1, Chapter 101, Section 2071.

Paragraph (a) specifically states that the perpetrator should be fined or imprisoned for 3 years, or both.

Paragraph (b) says such a perpetrator is thereby disqualified from holding any office under the United States of America.

Plot thickens in Hillary Clinton's Benghazi email probe

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the news media's heir apparent to the U.S. presidency admitted that all of the emails on her unauthorized private server have been permanently deleted. Her attorney, David Kendell claims the server had been wiped clean before turning over documents to the special committee investigating Benghazi. And Clinton's army of attack dogs, including James Carville, Lanny Davis and attorney Kendell, are predicting the investigation of Clinton and her shenanigans will go nowhere, according to Sunday television news shows.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I agree that Hillary is not likely to face any real legal consequences for her actions, even though under 18 U.S. Code Section 2071 (b) her mishandling of government documents disqualifies her from holding any office. However, politics is perception, and this story will still be fresh in everyone's mind as we head into the primaries next year. Even the Democratic leadership is mumbling about her "unwinnability' to the point where they are openly talking about bringing back Al "Global Warming" Gore as their star candidate, despite the likelihood of another hard winter before the next election.

FORMER BLACKWATER GETS RICH AS AFGHAN DRUG PRODUCTION HITS RECORD HIGH

In a war full of failures, the US counternarcotics mission in Afghanistan stands out: opiate production has climbed steadily over recent years to reach record-high levels last year. Yet there is a clear winner in the anti-drug effort – not the Afghan people, but the infamous mercenary company formerly known as Blackwater. Statistics released on Tuesday reveal that the rebranded private security firm, known since 2011 as Academi, reaped over half a billion dollars from the futile Defense Department push to eradicate Afghan narcotics, some 32% of the $1.8bn in contracting money the Pentagon has devoted to the job since 2002.

Republicans warn world that Obama U.N. plan could be undone

The Obama administration's plan for U.N. climate change talks encountered swift opposition after its release Tuesday, with Republican leaders warning other countries to "proceed with caution" in negotiations with Washington because any deal could be later undone.

20 Reasons Why Hillary Would Wipe Her Server Clean

3. If she gave the Benghazi Committee electronic access to the emails, they could easily determine whether any had been edited or altered. It would have been extremely difficult to delete just some of the information in the emails. If she tried to doctor them, the system would likely show when it was last edited. Any edits after she left the State Department would be highly suspicious and the earlier versions could probably be retrieved anyway. So, it would be much easier to give out only hard copies, which can be easily doctored without detection and which would be difficult to search electronically.

Boehner playing dangerous game by mixing Israel, race

Speaker John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) trip to Israel this week is so blatantly political that even the avowedly impartial Associated Press describes it as looking “like a jab at the White House.”

It is worse than that. President Obama can jab back in any political fight.

The real issue here is the way Boehner is recklessly sowing division along party lines on Israel. He is also — intentionally or not — heightening the silent but simmering racial tensions that increasingly divide Americans on the subject.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Boehner is proving that he is an Israeli stooge, and Obama has every right to arrest Boehner and every member of Congress currently in violation of the Logan Act and toss them in prison!

Obama lifts hold on U.S. military aid to Egypt

President Barack Obama on Monday told Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi that he would lift a hold on U.S. military aid to Cairo, but also said the United States would stop allowing Egypt to buy equipment on credit starting in fiscal year 2018.

Obama has been reviewing military aid to Egypt since 2013 when the Egyptian army ousted former president Mohamed Mursi. The decision will allow for the delivery of 12 F-16 aircraft, 20 Harpoon missiles, and up to 125 M1A1 Abrams tank kits that had been frozen, the White House said.
Obama said he would continue to ask the U.S. Congress for $1.3 billion in military aid for Egypt per year, but has decided to "modernize" the aid by discontinuing the use of cash flow financing for military equipment starting in fiscal 2018, the White House said.

At the present, highly placed Zionist officials hold sway over the Obama Cabinet, but in the future they may find themselves facing charges of being agents of a foreign power, and a threat to US national security. They may find themselves sharing a cell block with Jonathan Pollard!

Obama supports reduction in military retirement pay

President Obama said Monday he supports the recommendations of a military commission that would reduce the size of traditional military retirement pay by about 20 percent and offer a new defined-contribution benefit for troops who leave before 20 years of service.

In a letter to congressional leaders, Mr. Obama said the proposals are “an important step forward in protecting the long-term viability of the all-volunteer force, improving quality-of-life for service members and their families, and ensuring the fiscal sustainability of the military compensation and retirement systems.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

With almost Wiemar-style, rampant inflation, President Obama is going to CUT military retirement pay?!?

How does this make sense, with an all-volunteer army?!?

Is the purpose of such a cut, perhaps, to dissuade people from joining the military, because the retirement benefits are so puny, compared with opportunities in the private sector, to the point where the administration believes there is "no other alternative" than going back to a military draft?!?

Before you start laughing at this, please remember: Charlie Rangel's bill to bring back the draft is still sitting, in the House Armed Services Committee, two years after its introduction.

As reported at http://rangel.house.gov/press-release/rangel-introduce-legislation-reinstating-draft-and-requiring-women-register-selective"

"Rangel Introduces Legislation Reinstating Draft And Requiring Women To Register In Selective Service System"

Congressman Charles B. Rangel introduced legislation on Friday that would reintroduce the draft and would require all women to register for the Selective Service. These two bills aim to challenge the decisions that are made to send our troops into harm's way. Ten years ago on February 15, 2003, fifteen million people across 800 cities protested the invasion of Iraq, making it the largest antiwar rally in history.

"Now that women can serve in combat they should register for the Selective Service alongside their male counterparts," said Rangel. "Reinstating the draft and requiring women to register for the Selective Service would compel the American public to have a stake in the wars we fight as a nation. We must question why and how we go to war, and who decides to send our men and women into harm's way."

Rangel conveniently forgets that US citizens never have the chance to change the course of history, once the large corporations and this country's military industrial complex decide who is next on their "hit list".

And that hit list usually involves the taking of resources from foreign countries to which the US government has absolutely no moral right.

In Iraq, it was about oil, and making sure that the oil was only sold in US dollars; in Afghanistan, it was about pipelines and mineral riches (and let's not forget the opium cultivation, which is still going strong); in Libya, it was preventing Qaddafi from offering a gold-backed dinar to compete with the US dollar.

And now, let us turn our attention to Yemen, where the people there threw out the US-backed puppet, Al-Hadi. I will predict that the forces fighting the rebels, including Americans, will collectively punish all Yemenites for having had the gumption, and capability, to unseat both the dictator and his government.

The country of Yemen has been characterized as one of the most poverty stricken, and corrupt, governments in the Middle East, and that is saying something.

The US government, if it had any collective wisdom here, whatsoever, would have been using its aid to this government as both a carrot and a stick.

There would have been an accountability for all humanitarian aid, medical, supplies, and food, that it actually got to the people who so desperately needed, and not parceled out to Al-Hadi's cronies to sell on the black market.

There would have been an encouragement of public/private investment in the country's infrastructure, building roads, hospitals, and schools, and training the Yemenite people so that they could get these jobs.

There would have been a requirement for more transparency in government, so that people could honestly believe that they would have their grievances handled in a logical and lawful way.

Of course, these steps.....would have been logical, on the part of this government

The dual facts that the draft legislation has not been killed, after sitting for two years in the House Armed Services Committee, coupled with a desire to cut the benefits for our retiring military, are two very strong indications that this administration is preparing for more and more wars, in the attempts to clean up the messes left by previous military misadventures, and will bring back the draft to do it, after participation in the all-volunteer army sinks to an all-time low, due to cuts in benefits.
