Trump's Syria Withdrawal Order Came as Reaction to Admin Hawks Demanding Forever War

This time it's real. It isn't entirely impossible Trump will reverse himself later on yet again, or qualify the withdrawal in some other way, but for now it is clear that he has indeed given the order to Pentagon to get all its forces out of Syria. This has always been his instinct and inclination, but until now the Empire-first hawks he has surrounded himself with always in the end convinced him to keep the soldiers there after all:

“We know Trump’s instincts from the get-go were to get these guys out of Syria,” Tamara Wittes, a former State Department Middle East official now with the Brookings Institution, told Al-Monitor. “And yet, he has clearly been persuaded at several points 'not yet, ISIS is not quite defeated, but we can use [the troop presence] as leverage against Iran.' He becomes persuaded, and then at a certain point, … he decides enough is enough. He just changes his mind.”

Hilarious! Euro-Poodles Were Not Told of Trump's Syria Withdrawal in Advance, Learned of It From the Media

UK and France have troops of their own illegally in Syria alongside the US. UK has a platoon of SAS commandos or so in Syria's south at Al-Tanf, and France has a few hundred of soldiers in the east with the Kurds.

Despite that Trump did not tell Macron, May and their defense officials, who earlier this year also helped him cruise-missile Syria, that he's withdrawing in advance. They had to learn about it from the media like the rest of us:

German Press Lays Out The Opposition To Trump’s Withdrawal From Syria

The US President is withdrawing the troops from Syria, he has apparently left out close associates. Contradiction comes from London and Trump’s own party.

Meanwhile, Interpol warns of a new IS terrorist wave. Britain disagrees with the US President’s assessment that the terrorist militia “Islamic State” (IS) has been defeated in Syria. IS continues to be a threat, even without territory, according to a statement by the British Foreign Ministry. There is still a lot to do in the fight against IS, “and we must not lose sight of the danger it poses.”

Previously, the US government had surprisingly announced the withdrawal of troops from Syria. It has already begun to withdraw soldiers from the country, said the White House on Wednesday. The US has defeated the “territorial caliphate” of the terrorist militia.

Trump orders Syria troop pull-out & Hollywood ‘liberals’ go bananas

The announcement by President Trump that US troops would be leaving Syria has been met with anger not just by neocons, but by Hollywood ‘liberals’ too. Aren’t progressives supposed to oppose wars and illegal occupations?

Of course, we have to be cautious. Trump’s announcement of a troop withdrawal from Syria, for now at least, is just words. We need to see evidence of soldiers leaving before we start to celebrate. We need to read the small print with a large Sherlock Holmes-style magnifying glass.

Even so, it’s a positive development as it marks a further winding down of the conflict. Some though don’t see it that way.

Trump blindsides Twitter with his 'singing farmer' persona throwback

US President Donald Trump tweeted a clip of himself and an actress dressed as farmers singing the Green Acres theme to celebrate the 2019 farm bill, catching the media off-guard amid tension over the coming government shutdown.

The clip, tagged #TBT for "throwback Thursday," dates from the 2005 Emmy Awards, when Hollywood had a rather more sanguine view of Trump, then at the height of his reality-TV stardom with "The Apprentice." His partner on stage is actress Megan Mullally of Will & Grace.

James Comey Admits He Didn’t Tell Trump that Democrats Financed Dossier

In testimony, James Comey admitted that when he infamously briefed then President-elect Donald Trump about the controversial dossier, Comey did not inform the incoming president about who financed the document.
The detail, contained in a second round of Comey’s testimony released earlier this week, is particularly relevant since the embattled former FBI director admitted in testimony two weeks ago that he was aware the dossier authored by former British spy Christopher Steele was financed by Democrats who opposed Trump.

Comey’s seeming withholding of information from Trump about the political origins of the dossier raises further questions. Comey last year stated that he pushed back against a request from Trump to possibly investigate the origins of “salacious material” – meaning the dossier — that the agency possessed in the course of its investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign.

Report: Netanyahu Failed to Persuade Trump to Reverse Syria Decision

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is said to have tried in vain to persuade President Donald Trump to walk back his decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria, a move that was met with significant “disappointment” in Jerusalem, Israeli media reported.

Israeli political figures have said that the move represents a possible blow to regional security, leaving the Jewish state to single-handedly combat the threat posed by the Iranian presence in the embattled country.

In Netanyahu’s public remarks, he said that he had spoken with both Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who “made it clear that they had other ways to express their influence in the arena.”

Trump to pull half of US troops from Afghanistan

US President Donald Trump has decided to pull about 7,000 troops from Afghanistan, a US official said Friday, but the Afghan presidency brushed off concerns the drawdown would affect security.

The move stunned and dismayed diplomats and officials in Kabul who are intensifying a push to end the 17-year conflict with the Taliban, which already controls vast amounts of territory and is causing "unsustainable" Afghan troop casualties.

'Triumph for Erdogan' as US announces Syria pull-out

Trump's claim that ISIL has been defeated contradicted his own experts' assessments and shocked his Middle East allies.
The departure of 2,000 US troops from Syria, where the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have acted as the United States' boots on the ground in the war on Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS), will give Ankara greater scope to drive the Kurdish fighters away from its border.

Two days before the statement, Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his US counterpart had responded positively to a his plan to invade the area of northeast Syria controlled by the SDF.

"There is little doubt that [Erdogan] welcomes it as a major diplomatic gain which clears the way for a third Turkish military advance into northern Syria," said Bulent Aliriza, director of the Center for Strategic and International Studies' Turkey Project in Washington.

This was accomplished in consultation with Adelson comprador John Bolton, who in December 2016 promised members of the American Friends of Beit El that Trump would not only move the embassy—declaring Jerusalem the true capital of Israel—but that he would not oppose any Jewish settlement expansion in the West Bank territories. China Warns of Escalation Over Huawei Incident

EU countries, Japan, South Korea, Canada, and most other nations are virtual US colonies, co-opted to do Washington’s bidding – even when harming their own interests.

No nations or enterprises anywhere should observe them. Going along with illegal US actions amounts to complicity with its imperial agenda, its hot and cold war on one country after another.

He stressed the Iranian government's efforts to turn the economic turbulence created after the US withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal into stability, and said, "Fortunately, today we are witnessing signs of reviving stability to the country's economy."

Earlier this month, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stressed Washington's failure to prevent his country's oil exports, expressing pleasure that crude sales had even increased after the US sanctions.

Chris Matthews Predicts Trump Could Resign ‘In The Coming Weeks’

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews said Monday that President Donald Trump could resign as part of a deal with special counsel Robert Mueller.

Matthews said Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump could be the “next dominoes to fall” in the investigation and could face prosecution and possible prison time.

Then, he speculated:

“But what if the prosecutor were to offer the president an alternative. What if he were to say he would let the children walk if the old man does the same? That would mean giving up the presidency in exchange for acquittals all around ? not just for himself, but for all his kids.”

He said Trump may have to take a page out of the book of former Vice President Spiro Agnew, who resigned in 1973 as part of a deal with prosecutors to avoid prison time in a tax evasion case.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Spiro Agnew was targeted to get him out of the Vice Presidency so that Nixon could get Gerald Ford in. The reason was simple. Nixon needed to protect the links from Watergate to the JFK assassination and he knew he could count on Ford, a member of the Warren Commission, to keep those secrets after Nixon resigned.

Poll Shows Democrats Prefer Michelle Obama and Oprah to Hillary

A new poll of Iowa Democrats shows they have little appetite for another Hillary Clinton presidential run, preferring to see Michelle Obama or even Oprah Winfrey run.

The poll, conducted in conjunction with the Des Moines Register, CNN, and Mediacom, presents four individuals to the prospective voter and asks if that person would add or detract from the 2020 presidential race.

The results were a remarkable statement on the two-time presidential failure.

While 76 percent thought Michelle Obama would add to the race, and 40 percent thought Oprah would be a good addition, just 25 percent felt the same about Hillary. Only Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz fared worse, a mere 17 percent thinking he’d uplift the race. It should be noted he had the most ‘unsure’ votes, however.

Growing US public support for one state shared equally by Israelis and Palestinians falls on deaf ears

Mueller Dropping Russia Probe, Says Trump Working for Israel and Saudis
The real money trail that initially led to Russia has now branched out, it goes to Israel, to Saudi Arabia, to the UAE and even the “Russia trail” may not be a trail at all. It may well be fake.

You see, many of those investigated as Russians, always listed as “close to Putin,” are, in actuality, more closely tied to Trump supporters Semion Mogilevich and Felix Sater, listed as Russian crime bosses who are both Israeli citizens with long histories of working with the Mossad.

Mogilevich, who “works” the fake Russian pro-Trump network, according to our sources, on behalf of Israel, has been on the FBI 10 Most Wanted list since 2009 for murder, extortion, prostitution, drug and weapons trafficking.

Felix Sater, his protégé, is an advisor to Donald Trump and controls Bayrock Group, Trump’s partner in “Trump Soho.” Sater, now an FBI informant, was named Jewish Man of the Year in 2010 and 2014.

Sater was found guilty of racketeering in 1998 and avoided prison>>>

Bolton: No Trump-Putin Meeting While Russia Holds Ukrainian Ships, Sailors

>>>Bolton says there will be no meeting between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin while Moscow still holds the Ukrainian ships and sailors it seized near Crimea.

"I don’t see circumstances in the foreseeable future where such a meeting could take place until the ships and the crews are released," Bolton told reporters on December 13.

Russia seized three Ukrainian Navy ships on November 25 and arrested 24 sailors in the Kerch Strait that links the Black Sea with the Sea of Azov.

Moscow alleged that the vessels had illegally entered Russian territorial waters near the Crimea region, which Russia occupied and annexed from Ukraine in 2014.

Ukraine and most UN member states do not recognize the annexation.

Trump Slams Fed On Eve Of Rate Decision: "Incredible" Fed Hiking With "World Blowing Up"

On the eve of Wednesday's Fed decision, President Trump is once again bashing the Federal Reserve over its plans to raise interest rates at a time when markets are already in chaos and the "world is blowing up" thanks in part to the central bank's "double-barreled blitz" of higher rates and tighter liquidity.

But instead of insinuating that Fed Chairman Jerome Powell is trying to undermine the administration, the president ticked off a reasonable list of factors that should give a truly "data-dependent" Fed reason to reconsider.

Instead of moving ahead with more rate hikes, Trump said the Fed should "Take the Victory!" Trump said.

US Planning a Return: Libyans Should Consider Themselves Warned

US Marines Colonel Adam L. Chalkley, commanding officer of Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Africa, says conditions are improving on the ground in Libya for the return of an American diplomatic post, six years after the US envoy was killed there in an attack on the Benghazi consulate.

Of course, this is never about “a reintroduction of a diplomatic mission in the war-torn country”. Because of the bogus US-led War on Terror, half of Libya is in ruins – just like the rest of the region. The War Party in Washington only wants to make sure the rest of the country also falls deeper into chaos and division. Simply put, under this policy, Libyans are disposable, foreign-backed terrorism has forced much of Libya towards utter chaos, Yemen is near-collapse levels, and Afghanistan, Syria and Yemen are in a state of helplessness.

Strange enough, defenceless civilians in these failed states still find themselves being blamed for their misfortunes>>>

Whitewashing George HW Bush's legacy

There is much wrong that Bush did and the media should not try to cover it up after his death.

If "the present conducts the past the way a conductor conducts an orchestra," bringing forward "these particular sounds, or those, and no others" - as the great Italian novelist Italo Svevo observed in an often quoted metaphor - then American mainstream media's posthumous treatment of George HW Bush can only be described as a one-note symphony of glorification, contrasting the 41st president's supposed virtues with the vices of the office's current occupant. "The only part of [the past] that is highlighted," as Svevo had noted, "is that part that has been summoned up to illumine, and to distract us from, the present."

Among the instruments of selective historical memorialisation is the taboo against speaking ill of the dead -which is articulated as a universal principle but applied, in reality, with extreme partiality.
But for Bush, who had the privilege of directing acts of mass violence from afar, the abuses and atrocities tarnishing his leadership have been treated as mere footnotes to the main story - if they are accorded any attention at all. While commentators have fawned over cartoons depicting Bush's projected arrival in heaven, they have erased the victims consigned to hell on Earth by his policies.

‘American System is Desperate for an Enemy’ - Scholar on Bolton's Accusations

US National Security Advisor John Bolton in a speech unveiled the US strategy to counter Chinese and Russian influence in Africa. He accused Moscow and Beijing of deliberately and aggressively targeting their investments in the region to gain a competitive advantage over the US.

The American official claimed that China was using bribes, opaque agreements and the strategic use of debt to hold states in Africa captive to Beijing's wishes and demands. In addition, Bolton announced a new program, "Prosper Africa", to support American investment across the continent and provide alternatives to Chinese projects.

Radio Sputnik has discussed this new plan with Ian Taylor, a professor in International Relations and African Political Economy at the School of International Relations at the University of St. Andrews in Fife, Scotland.

Pressures on Iran's Missile Power Due to US Disappointment at Military Action

Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami said the US is using Iran's missile program as a pretext to pressure and weaken Tehran as Washington has been disappointed at the military option against Iran.

"Today, the enemies have grown disappointed at military threats and their pressures on Iran's missiles are becuase of their despair. But we do know very well that we can never neglect the defense power even for one moment," General Hatami said, addressing a forum in Tehran on Sunday.

He added that the US and its allies wanted to use the terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria to hit a blow to the Islamic Revolution but Iran's supports for the legal governments in those countries foiled enemies' plots and created the resistance pivot.

Iran has taken long strides in production of different missiles despite the US sanctions.

Trump faces pushback after saying he may intervene in arrest of Huawei executive

U.S. President Donald Trump is facing pushback for saying on Tuesday that he might intervene in a legal case involving the chief financial official of Chinese telco giant Huawei Technologies — if such a move would help Washington secure a trade deal with Beijing.

Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland on Wednesday warned the U.S. not to politicize extradition cases, saying that the legal process should not be hijacked for political purposes.

“Our extradition partners should not seek to politicize the extradition process or use it for ends other than the pursuit of justice and following the rule of law,” she said when asked about Trump’s interview with Reuters where he reportedly said he would intervene in the case if it helped secure a trade deal with Beijing.

Having run through his first choices for his chief of staff vacancy without any luck, President Donald Trump is considering his own son-in-law for the job.

He and two others close to Trump or the White House who confirmed Kushner’s interest in the position did so on condition of anonymity to discuss the president’s staffing considerations freely.

REVEALED: Trump's inauguration is probed for 'accepting cash-for-access from Middle Eastern nations like Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE' after secret recording made by Michael Cohen is found by prosecutors

Federal prosecutors are reportedly looking into whether some of the top donors to Trump's 2017 inauguration gave money in exchange for access to his administration, policy concessions or to influence the administration.

The inquiry is particularly focusing on Middle Eastern donors like Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

According to The New York Times, investigators are trying to determine whether those nations used straw donors to disguise their donations to President Donald Trump's inaugural committee and the pro-Trump super PAC, Rebuilding America Now, in hopes of buying influence.

Foreign nations are prohibited from contributing to federal campaigns, PACs and inaugural funds by law.

Trump Inaugural Committee Under Feds' Microscope For Potential Corruption - WSJ

Federal investigators are probing US President Donald Trump’s inaugural committee to find out if money donated to it or spent by it was used for corrupt purposes, the Wall Street Journal revealed Thursday.

The committee for funding the celebration expenses associated with Trump's inauguration to the presidency in January 2017 raised a record amount of money: $107 million, more than twice what his predecessor, Barack Obama, raised in 2008, which was itself a record. That money, raised from donations, was spent paying for reservations, caterers, entertainment, and a host of other expenses.

The entire anti-Russia brouhaha has reminded me of what Mohammad Ali stated after receiving notice from his local draft board that he was being forced to serve in the U.S. military during the Vietnam War. Ali declared. “I ain’t got no quarrel with them Vietcong.”

Ali had a point. After all, what had the Vietcong done to him or any other American? No Vietcong had ever come to the United States and attacked civilians, soldiers, or CIA or NSA agents. No Viet Cong had ever expressed any interest in invading and conquering the United States and taking over the federal government and the nation’s public-school systems. All that they were doing was trying to win a civil war that would put the entire country under the rule of Ho Chi Minh, a declared communist.

British ex-spy Christopher Steele, who wrote the Democrat-financed anti-Trump dossier, said in a court case that he was hired by a Democratic law firm in preparation for Hillary Clinton challenging the results of the 2016 presidential election.

He said the law firm Perkins Coie wanted to be in a position to contest the results based on evidence he unearthed on the Trump campaign conspiring with Moscow on election interference.

His scenario is contained in a sealed Aug. 2 declaration in a defamation law suit brought by three Russian bankers in London. Trump Defends Flynn – ‘He Didn’t Lie, Mueller Pushed That Claim’

President Trump, responding to new allegations that former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn was coerced into forgoing a lawyer during an interview with the FBI, claims “he didn’t lie” and it was Special Counsel Robert Mueller who pushed the claim.

“Well, the FBI said Michael Flynn, a general and a great person, they said he didn’t lie,” Trump said at a White House meeting with governors-elect.

“And Mueller said: ‘Well, maybe he did,'” he continued. “And now they’re all having a big dispute, so I think it’s a great thing that the judge is looking into that situation. It’s an honor for a lot of terrific people.”

It is the strongest defense of Flynn coming from the President since new court filings have forced people to look at the handling of the case with fresh eyes. Trump stated last year that he had to fire Flynn for lying to the FBI, but new revelations suggest the general wasn’t afforded a right to counsel and wasn’t aware that he was being officially interviewed.
