Trump administration moves to curb campus criticism of Israel

In a move to chill speech critical of Israel, a former Israel lobbyist who is now the Trump administration’s top civil rights enforcer has said that the Department of Education will apply standards that conflate criticism of Israel and Zionism with anti-Jewish bigotry.

The announcement was made without public or congressional notification or debate, and reportedly took current and former investigators in the education department “by surprise.”

Ambassador: EU Is Against Member States Moving Embassy to Jerusalem

Palestinian ambassador to the European Union (EU) Abdul Rahim al-Farra denied on Thursday reports that the Czech Republic intends to move its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, stressing that the EU opposes such a move by individual member states.

He told Voice of Palestine radio that until now there is no official confirmation regarding this issue, pointing out that there were assurances from the Czech foreign ministry that the embassy will not be moved to Jerusalem.

Farra said the European Union, especially its foreign service represented by Federica Mogherini, had called on all EU member states not to move their embassy to Jerusalem because such an act would affect the peace process and the two-state solution, adding that the EU does not have any information about moving the Czech embassy.

The new executive order is a bid to preempt the no-fewer-than five serious Congressional proposals now under consideration on Capitol Hill, which, if passed, could reduce Trump’s decision-making authority on how to respond to a future attempt to swing an American election.

Rather than a stern warning directed at Putin and like-minded leaders, the executive order appears focused on torpedoing Congressional action, experts said.

Revolution in the USA

It appears that in addition to all those chemical Novichok agents, WADA urine samples, hackers, sanctions and other geopolitical perversions, the USA has yet another reason for a headache - a revolution.

Donald Trump said before that his impeachment would cause global markets to collapse. It could be possible, although no one can say for sure whether the impeachment procedure is going to materialize. Apparently, Democrats would like to think about it as a "highly likely" thing, similarly to all the "highly likely" fake news that they have been generously generating lately.

Donald Trump does not have to search for words. He turned around and said that he has already made America great again. Mr. Trump has thus inadvertently given a trump card to his opponents, because it just so happens that he has done his job and can be free to go.

Why the U.S. Seeks to Hem in Russia, China and Iran

America’s three principal adversaries signify the shape of the world to come: a post-Western world of coexistence. But neolibera and neocon ideology is unable to to accept global pluralism and multipolarity, argues Patrick Lawrence.

The Trump administration has brought U.S. foreign policy to the brink of crisis, if it has not already tipped into one. There is little room to argue otherwise. In Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, and in Washington’s ever-fraught relations with Russia, U.S. strategy, as reviewed in my previous column, amounts to little more than spoiling the efforts of others to negotiate peaceful solutions to war and dangerous standoffs in the interests of an orderly world.

The bitter reality is that U.S. foreign policy has no definable objective other than blocking the initiatives of others because they stand in the way of the further expansion of U.S. global interests. This impoverished strategy reflects Washington’s refusal to accept the passing of its relatively brief post–Cold War moment of unipolar power.

Russian UN Envoy: West Seeking To Topple Russia’s Government Using The Sergei Skripal Show

September 9, 2018: The article highlights that western countries have staked on exhausting the current political regime in Russia, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said on Sunday (September 9).

“The stake have been put on exhausting the regime,” he said in an interview with the Moscow, Kremlin, Putin program on the Rossiya-1 television channel.

According to the Russian diplomat, allegations of Russia’s involvement in the nerve gas attack on former foreign intelligence officer Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia are “yet another act in a long-running show.” He said the Western countries were obviously seeking “to picture Russia as a unprincipled member of international community” to justify “another spiral of sanctions.”

US Gov. Meddling Machine Boasts of ‘Laying the Groundwork for Insurrection’ in Nicaragua

As Nicaraguan student protest leaders meet with neoconservatives in Washington, DC, a publication funded by the US government’s regime change arm, the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), boasts of spending millions of dollars “laying the groundwork for insurrection” against Daniel Ortega

While some corporate media outlets have portrayed the violent protest movement gripping Nicaragua as a progressive grassroots upswell, the country’s own student leaders have suggested otherwise.

In early June, Nicaragua’s leading young activists went on a junket to Washington, DC, on the dime of the US government-funded right-wing advocacy group Freedom House. The Nicaraguan student leaders were there to beseech Donald Trump and other right-wing US government officials to help them in their fight against Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega.

It’s been 17 years since 9/11 but there’s still no end in sight for the war in Afghanistan

As Americans mark the anniversary of 9/11, the war that was launched in response to those attacks shows no sign of ending.

Seventeen years later, American troops are still fighting and dying, civilian casualties are at record highs, and the Taliban now controls more territory than at any point since 2001.

Earlier this month, a new American general took control of the effort — the ninth change of command in what is now the longest war the United States has ever fought.

‘Collective punishment against us’: US to close Palestinian mission in Washington, official says

The US State Department has announced it is shutting down the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) office in Washington, DC, a move which a top PLO official says is aimed at “collectively punishing the Palestinian people.”

The department said that the decision to close the office is consistent with US concerns about Palestinian attempts to launch a probe into Israeli actions at the International Criminal Court (ICC). It comes after the Palestinian Foreign Ministry asked the ICC in May to open an investigation into alleged Israeli violations against Palestinians, calling Tel Aviv's actions regarding illegal settlements “crimes against humanity.” It cited “grave crimes” against Palestinians by Israel, including forcible transfer, the unlawful killing of peaceful protesters, and the demolition of Palestinian homes.

Trump Trade War on China Likely to Roil World Markets While Spurring China’s Development

The U.S. is particularly fearful of Beijing’s “Made in China 2025” initiative, which will see the country’s industry upgraded to produce high-tech, value-added goods, enabling the country to take on flagship U.S. firms like Apple and Hewlett-Packard.
Such has been the conclusion of global commentators who watched this week as global share prices hit a slump Friday, marking their worst week in about six months.

The poor stock performances in both Asia and Europe come as a result of a failure by Beijing and Washington to resolve their trade dispute, with President Donald Trump instead vowing to impose new tariffs on another $200 billion in Chinese imports and China, in turn, vowing a tough response.

Fearing Collapse Amid UNRWA Cuts, Israeli Officials Urge Aid For Gaza

Amid US push to defund the UN’s Palestinian aid agency over its expansive definition of a refugee, Israel fears humanitarian crisis could spark war in south

Israeli security officials are urging the government to find an alternative source of aid funding for the Palestinians in Gaza as US contributions to the UN’s Palestinian aid agency UNRWA have evaporated.

On August 31, the US announced it would end all funding to UNRWA, just a week after cutting some $200 million in aid for the West Bank and Gaza. None of the cuts directly targeted aid meant for the internationally recognized Palestinian Authority, which received some $42 million in July as frozen funds were released that went toward security cooperation with Israel.

Though hailed by Israeli politicians, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the cuts are said to be opposed by defense officials, who fear they could fuel Palestinian unrest and in turn jeopardize Israel’s security.

‘Deep State’: the mysterious source of Donald Trump’s paranoia

Like the “Deep State” itself, the origins of the term are shrouded in mystery
Like the “Deep State” itself, the origins of the term are shrouded in mystery.

Some political observers see the “Deep State” as the heir to the “military-industrial complex” warned about by former president Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Some have used the phrase to refer to the military power structures behind ostensibly democratic regimes in countries such Egypt, Pakistan and Turkey.

For some, the “Deep State” is the thousands of federal government employees who soldier on through changes in administration.

“The Deep State is, in fact, a very real thing,” geopolitical analyst George Friedman wrote in The Huffington Post.

“It is, however, neither a secret nor nearly as glamorous as the concept might indicate.

Trump shared his views on international trade, eyeing Japan in particular, saying that Washington's "strong" relationship with Tokyo might "end," local media reported.

Wall Street Journal columnist and editor James Freeman said he had spoken to Trump earlier on Thursday, saying that the President “sounded very stable but unfortunately also still very focused on eliminating trade deficits with America’s trading partners.”

Freemen said that Trump called him shortly after an editor appeared on the Fox News channel, admiring Trump’s actions for US economy. Trump said that their relations with Japan are "strong" however, "that will end as soon as I tell them how much they have to pay."

'Not Watergate, just gossip': Pulitzer winner on Bob Woodward's new anti-Trump bombshell

The paradoxical era of anonymous anti-Trump reporting has turned once-solid journalism into a carnival of unverifiable accusations. True or not, they distract from real issues, says Pulitzer prize winning journalist Chris Hedges.
A new bombshell book about the horrors of Trump's White House is about to hit the shelves. This time it's not penned by a disgruntled former official, but the world-famous Bob Woodward – the investigative journalist who uncovered the 1970s Watergate scandal that brought down President Richard Nixon. Only this time, instead of doing solid, verifiable journalism, he is peddling damning claims by anonymous sources, says Chris Hedges, a Pulitzer prize winning journalist and author.

Trump Says Nike ‘Is Getting Killed’ With Kaepernick Partnership

President Trump weighed in on the controversy today on Twitter. “Just like the NFL, whose ratings have gone WAY DOWN, Nike is getting absolutely killed with anger and boycotts. I wonder if they had any idea that it would be this way? As far as the NFL is concerned, I just find it hard to watch, and always will, until they stand for the FLAG!”

West Wing Witch Hunt: Trump orders investigation into who's leaking in the White House in wake of Woodward book and anonymous New York Times opinion piece

President Donald Trump is ordering a real witch hunt - this one in the corridors of the West Wing in the wake of Bob Woodward's new book 'Fear' and a scandalous, anonymous op-ed on his administration appearing in the New York Times.

He is asking loyal aides to discover who leaked private White House conversations to The Washington Post reporter, CNN reported, but it it likely that will be expanded to attempt to uncover what 'senior official in the Trump administration' wrote in The Times about the efforts from within to thwart the president's 'worst inclinations.'

'Many of the senior officials in his own administration are working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations. I would know. I am one of them,' the official wrote in The Times.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I do not see the timing of the Woodward book and the WP Op-Ed as coincidence. I have to wonder if psych war is being waged against Trump.

Adelson’s perfect little puppet ends all possibility of a Palestinian state

Three years ago, it looked like Sheldon Adelson was going to support Senator Marco Rubio for president, and Donald Trump tweeted a lethal assessment:

Sheldon Adelson is looking to give big dollars to Rubio because he feels he can mold him into his perfect little puppet. I agree!

After that, of course, Trump blew Rubio away, and it was Trump who got $35 million from Adelson in the presidential race. The relationship hums along. Lately Adelson and his wife Miriam gave $55 million to Trump’s firewall against impeachment, Republican congressional campaigns.

And Trump’s shrewd assessment could not be more accurate. He is Adelson’s perfect little puppet.

What Lies Beneath: The US-Israeli Plot to ‘Save’ Gaza

Israel wants to change the rules of the game entirely. With unconditional support from the Trump Administration, Tel Aviv sees a golden opportunity to redefine what has, for decades, constituted the legal and political foundation for the so-called "Palestinian-Israeli conflict."

While US President Donald Trump’s foreign policy has, thus far, been erratic and unpredictable, his administration’s "vision" in Israel and Palestine is systematic and unswerving. This consistency seems to be part of a larger vision aimed at liberating the "conflict" from the confines of international law and even the old US-sponsored "peace process."

Indeed, the new strategy has, so far, targeted the status of East Jerusalem as an Occupied Palestinian city, and the Right of Return for Palestinian refugees. It aims to create a new reality in which Israel achieves its strategic goals while the rights of Palestinians are limited to mere humanitarian issues.

Trump warns Syria not to 'recklessly attack' Idlib province

U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday warned Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his allies Iran and Russia not to “recklessly attack” Syria’s rebel-held Idlib province, warning that hundreds of thousands of people could be killed.

“The Russians and Iranians would be making a grave humanitarian mistake to take part in this potential human tragedy. Hundreds of thousands of people could be killed. Don’t let that happen!” Trump wrote in a tweet.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I wonder where Trump's concern for killing people was when US strikes pounded Raqqa into rubble ... causing thousands of civilian deaths.

Iran: US abusing UNSC to divert attention from Israeli violations of intl. law

Iran has censured US President Donald Trump’s latest decision to chair a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting against the Islamic Republic, saying such a meeting is meant to divert the world’s attention from American and Israeli violations of international law and the very same Council’s resolutions.

In a press release published on Wednesday, the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the UN accused the US of trying to impose its unilateral decisions on the UNSC during its presidency of the chamber this month.

‘Treason or fake news?’ Trump urges NYT to reveal its White House ‘resistance’ insider

Furious over an article allegedly penned by a senior official who claims to be a part of the White House resistance working against Trump, the US leader has urged the New York Times to reveal its “phony” anonymous source.

“TREASON?” Trump tweeted in response to the piece entitled “I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration.” The US leader further questioned whether the alleged “Senior Administration Official” really exists, and urged the paper to reveal its source in the name of national security.

“If the GUTLESS anonymous person does indeed exist, the Times must, for National Security purposes, turn him/her over to government at once!" the president said.

Breaking: Pence Denies Writing NYT ‘Resistance’ Op-Ed

After my housemate and I read the op-ed, he joked to me that perhaps Mike Pence was behind the article, because he really wants to be President. While he was joking, as I turned to Twitter to see how the rest of the world was reacting, and Mike Pence was the top trending topic on Twitter.

Why? Because the speculation that he truly was behind the op-ed, and most people were dead serious. The entire case that Pence penned the op-ed is based on the fact that the op-ed writer used the phrase “lodestar” to describe the late John McCain, which is also a word that has appeared in Mike Pence’s vocabulary.

Here’s What We Know About the Anonymous Anti-Trump Op-Ed Writer

If you’re hearing the sound of glee in the air, it’s likely coming from whatever direction the nation’s capital lies.

Washington is full of cries of joy, as journalists try their best to sniff out who the author is of a mysterious op-ed that appeared in the New York Times, that was purportedly written by a “senior official” in the Trump Administration.

In an anonymous Op-Ed, a senior Trump administration official says he and others are working ?to frustrate the president’s “misguided impulses.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

One other possibility we should consider is that the New York Times just made this up out of thin air to sew suspicion and distrust within the White House staff.

Assad was supposed to be gone already. President Obama thought it would be just another “regime change” operation and perhaps Assad would end up like Saddam Hussein or Yanukovych. But with the help of his allies, Assad has nearly defeated this foreign-sponsored insurgency.

Over the past few months NATO member states have sharply increased their pressure on Russia. The Euro-Atlantic establishment is strengthening the image of Russia as a fierce enemy. It is very useful to have such a foe to justify your own reckless foreign and domestic policy.

The situation has already led to a recognizable deterioration of the relations between the two sides undermining problem-solving mechanisms, like the UN Security Council or the OPCW.

The most alarming result of these actions is a growing military escalation between NATO and Russia in the Black Sea region and in Eastern Europe overall. NATO member states have increased their airspace activity and the number of ground military exercises near Russia’s border.

Satire nose no bounds: Mattis didn’t avert nuclear war by grabbing Trump’s nostrils, journo confirms

In a comical reflection of the current US political climate, a sports journalist has been forced to admit that James Mattis did not, in fact, grab US President Donald Trump’s nose during a heated exchange over nuking North Korea.

Grant Brisbee, a senior baseball writer for SB Nation, tweeted what he (jokingly) claimed was an excerpt for Bob Woodward’s explosive new book, ‘Fear: Trump in the White House,’ real excerpts of which were published by the Washington Post Tuesday.

US ambassador: Jerusalem made Israel’s capital ‘under God’s direction’ 3,000 years ago

US Ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, has praised President Donald Trump’s administration for putting US-Israeli relations on “more solid [ground] than ever before”, reported the Jerusalem Post.

Speaking at a pre-Rosh Hashanah reception in his Herzliya residence, Friedman singled out for praise the US decision to relocate its embassy to Jerusalem.

“Now, the United States did not make Jerusalem the capital of Israel. That was done by King David some 3,000 years ago under God’s direction,” Friedman declared.

But, he added, “it feels awfully good” that “the most powerful and moral nation on earth has made this important recognition of the primacy of Jerusalem to the State of Israel and the Jewish People.”

Kushner’s Ongoing Assault on Palestinian Refugees

The US administration is waging an assault against Palestinian refugees. Diplomatic, legal, and financial measures – mainly engineered by President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior advisor, Jared Kushner – aim to take the Palestinian refugee question “off the table” and thus crush Palestinian claims to repatriation and reparations before the unveiling of the “Deal of the Century.” The administration’s approach is two-pronged, using financial restrictions as well as diplomatic and Congressional pressure.

Since December 2017, Kushner has been attempting to dismantle the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), whose purpose is to provide food, health care, education, and other vital services to 5.3 million Palestinian refugees who were expelled from their homes during the Nakba in 1947-48.

Trump 'wanted Bashar al-Assad killed' after chemical attack

US President Donald Trump wanted to have Syrian President Bashar al-Assad killed after the Syrian government reportedly carried out a chemical attack in April 2017, a new book by renowned journalist Bob Woodward alleges.

The attack, which was widely blamed on forces loyal to the Syrian government, was carried out on the town of Khan Sheikhoun, killing more than 80 people.

According to the book Fear: Trump in the White House, by Woodward, Trump wanted the US military to go into Syria and assassinate al-Assad.

"Let's f*****g kill him! Let's go in. Let's kill the f*****g lot of them," Trump said according to Woodward's book.

Secretary of Defense James Mattis said the Pentagon would "get right on it" after Trump made his request, according to Woodward, but after getting off the phone with Trump, Mattis made it clear to his staff that they were not going to follow through with Trump's plan.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Woodward is riding on his Watergate reputation here. If he isn't questioning just who did the supposed chemical attack, then he is not being the investigative journalist he once was.

US, Turkey Agree Syrian 'Any' Offensive in Idlib 'Unacceptable' - US State Dept

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo spoke on Tuesday over the phone with his Turkish counterpart, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, about the situation in Idlib, Syria.

The statement on the call, attributable to State Department Spokeswoman Heather Nauert, takes a stronger position against than the one taken by US President Donald Trump the day prior.

"President Bashar al-Assad of Syria must not recklessly attack Idlib Province. The Russians and Iranians would be making a grave humanitarian mistake to take part in this potential human tragedy," Trump tweeted on Monday. "Hundreds of thousands of people could be killed. Don’t let that happen!"

Now, it appears that the State Department and the White House aren't exactly on the same page. While Trump cautioned against a "reckless attack," the State Department, in conjunction with the Turkish Foreign Ministry, is calling "any Assad military offensive" in Idlib "unacceptable."
