Flashpoint: Ukraine v. Russia: Passage through Kerch Strait and the Sea of Azov

Part I: The Legal Status of Kerch Strait and the Sea of Azov
DMYTRO KOVAL—VALENTIN J. SCHATZ— 10 January, 2018 0

On 16 September 2016, Ukraine instituted arbitral proceedings against Russia under Part XV and Annex VII of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in the Dispute Concerning Coastal State Rights in the Black Sea, Sea of Azov, and Kerch Strait (Ukraine v. the Russian Federation). The case relates to Russia’s occupation of Crimea in 2014, which fundamentally disrupted the maritime order in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

Rumors of War: Washington Is Looking for a Fight

It is depressing to observe how the United States of America has become the evil empire. Having served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and in the Central Intelligence Agency for the second half of the Cold War, I had an insider’s viewpoint of how an essentially pragmatic national security policy was being transformed bit by bit into a bipartisan doctrine that featured as a sine qua non global dominance for Washington. Unfortunately, when the Soviet Union collapsed the opportunity to end once and for all the bipolar nuclear confrontation that threatened global annihilation was squandered as President Bill Clinton chose instead to humiliate and use NATO to contain an already demoralized and effectively leaderless Russia.

Crimea Vows To Ship Oil To Syria Amid Ongoing Fuel Crisis, Thwarting US Sanctions

Via AlMasdarNews.com

The President of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, vowed to help the Syrian Arab Republic amid their ongoing fuel crisis that is a result of the sanctions imposed on the country by western nations.

Aksyonov told Russia’s Sputnik News that there are plans to export wheat, petroleum derivatives and power tools to Syria as well as rebuilding railways there.

He pointed out that whether it is Crimea or Russia, they are willing to export products to Syria in order to help the war-torn nation.

The Crimean President noted that a shipment of wheat and other industrial products is being prepared and will be heading to Syria soon.

He also pointed out that a joint shipment company is being founded, adding that Syria will export citrus fruits, olive and olive oil to Russia.

The fuel crisis in Syria has forced the Syrian government to issue rations on gas in order to deal with the ongoing sanctions that are greatly effecting the country.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder; just how Crimea will get these supplies, unless they move a lot of them through the Mediterranean, on their way to Tarsus, which is an officially Russian-leased port on the Med.

You know that the US military will be in the Med, guns blazing, attempting to derail the Syria-destined aid, if they get the slightest whisper, that this is really happening happening.

And BINGO, we can look at NATO's website to determine what kind of training exercises are going to be taking place, right around the time that these shipments should be happening.

Fact Sheet: NATO EXERCISES, 2019:

It looks as though the following will be the closest "fit", in terms of a time line:

SPRING STORM
A large-scale live exercise of the Estonian Defence Forces, with
participation from NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence and other Allied
forces. Some 10,000 military personnel are expected to participate.
29 April – 10 May

Folks, that start date for this NATO exercise is 29 April; one week from this Monday.

I hope (and also pray) that the Adults in the Room in the White House, and its Military, are not going to let things get out of hand with these shipments; unfortunately, with a card-carrying Dominionist at the helm of the US State Department, Mikie Pompeo, God only knows what kind of havoc he may have in store for these aid ships, simply trying to get help to a fractured, broken country, (largely courtesy of the last Administration, and the current Administration.)

The location of this drill is also more than a little un-nerving; right after Crimea held its referendum, to determine, post-putsch, if Crimeans wanted to stay with Ukraine, or petition the Russian Federation to become a member (that latter is the one that happened), there was all sorts of chatter that Russia would want to invade Estonia.

And it appears that the American Public is being "groomed" to expect a Russian attack against Baltic nations, which would, of course, would mean that NATO would be stepping in here.

Europe's worst nightmare: here's what a NATO/RUSSIA war would like like, dateline 31 March 019

So, we get this story, end of last month, and NATO exercises in Estonia latter this month, starting 29 March, and headed through the beginning of May.

Coincidence?!?

I hope to Heaven that I am wrong, but when I see dates start to "jive" as they do for this exercise, and potential disruption of a Crimean relief operation for Syria, I don't think that this was a coincidence.

BRZEZINSKI'S WARNING TO AMERICA

As Washington’s grip on global affairs continues to loosen and more countries reject the western development model, the current order will progressively weaken clearing the way for a multipolar world badly in need of a new security architecture. Western elites, who are unable to accept this new dynamic, continue to issue frenzied statements expressing their fear of a future in which the United States no longer dictates global policy.
At the 2019 Munich Security Conference, Chairman Wolfgang Ischinger, underscored many of these same themes. Here’s an excerpt from his presentation:

“The whole liberal world order appears to be falling apart – nothing is as it once was… Not only do war and violence play a more prominent role again: a new great power confrontation looms at the horizon. In contrast to the early 1990s, liberal democracy and the principle of open markets are no longer uncontested….

Nearly 100,000 Pentagon whistleblower complaints have been silenced – Lee Camp

I don’t know if I’d have the nerve to be a whistleblower. I’d like to think I would. We all like to think we would, just like we all like to think we could catch the game-winning touchdown or fold a fitted sheet without cursing

But to blow the whistle on a huge organization with a lot of power, likely drawing that power to come crashing down on your head – that takes some serious spine-age. Now, imagine the organization you’re calling out is arguably the largest, most powerful, most secretive and most violent organization on planet Earth. I’m speaking, of course, of the US Department of Defense.

American Wars Are off the Charts Under Donald Trump

Here’s a statement it might be hard to disagree with: American war is off the charts. Still, I’d like to explain — but I’m nervous about doing so. I know perfectly well that the next word I plan to write will send most of you tumbling elsewhere in a universe in which “news” is the latest grotesque mass shooting; the craziest tweet from you-know-who; celebrities marching into court over college-admissions scandals; or even a boy, missing for years, who suddenly turns up only to morph into a 23-year-old impostor with a criminal record.

How can America’s wars in distant lands compete with that? Which is why I just can’t bring myself to write the next word. So promise me that, after you read it, you’ll hang in there for just a minute and give me a chance to explain.

Okay, here goes: Somalia.

RUSSIA 2019+ MILITARY DOCTRINE

The term “Gerasimov Doctrine”, apparently wholly made up Mark Galeotti who, to his credit, owned up to his mistake, has been used by the Western media to the point of obscuring the real work on developing national security doctrines for Russia’s 21st century needs. In this work, General Valeriy Gerasimov, Chief of General Staff of the Russian Federation Armed Forces, has played a major role. During a recent conference at the Academy of Military Sciences, where Gerasimov delivered the keynote speech, he outlined the national security priorities facing the Russian Federation. This included areas where further theoretical research is necessary to inform the future dimensions of armed forces development.

Army budget request adds $1.5B for network modernization

The Army plans to spend more than $8.4 billion over the next five years to modernize its battlefield network, according to the Pentagon’s latest budget request and Army documents.

The plan includes about $1.5 billion more for fiscal years 2020 -2023 than Army leaders projected to spend on the network in last year’s budget request.

Network modernization is one of the top six modernization priorities for the Army’s chief of staff. These priorities seek to better posture the Army to fight and win against near peer adversaries readying the service to be “multidomain” capable by 2028.

The Army believes it will need hardened and resilient communications in the face of sophisticated jamming techniques. It also will need the ability to more rapidly share data for improved situational awareness allowing forces to be more mobile and dispersed.

Embarrassing: British Navy Fails at Tracking Russian Subs; Sailors Caught Doing Cocaine

Scandal in the British Navy. Sailors of the Talent nuclear submarine were caught using cocaine. It resulted in the disruption of the operation of tracking down Russian submarines in the North Sea.

It's reported HMS Talent should've gone on a raid last Sunday, but the day before the crew members attended a party after which seven sailors failed a drug test. They were fired and the submarine's departure was postponed.

The local press noted this wasn't the first time the submarine encountered troubles. Four years ago, this submarine was on a raid on tracking down Russians, but it hit an iceberg and almost sank.

RUMORS OF WAR: WASHINGTON IS LOOKING FOR A FIGHT

Authored by Philip Giraldi via The Strategic Culture Foundation

But even given all of the horrific decisions being made in the White House, there is one organization that is far crazier and possibly even more dangerous. That is the United States Congress, which is, not surprisingly, a legislative body that is viewed positively by only 18 per cent of the American people.

A current bill originally entitled the “Defending American Security from Kremlin Aggression Act (DASKA) of 2019,” is numbered S-1189.

It has been introduced in the Senate which will “…require the Secretary of State to determine whether the Russian Federation should be designated as a state sponsor of terrorism and whether Russian-sponsored armed entities in Ukraine should be designated as foreign terrorist organizations.” The bill is sponsored by Republican Senator Cory Gardner of Colorado and is co-sponsored by Democrat Robert Menendez of New Jersey.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This will, again, take the Congress out of its Constitutionally, legally binding, responsibility to declare war; and considering that our current Secretary of State is Mike Pompeo, a Dominionist, who fervently believes that a world war is a great thing, because it will cause Jesus to make his second appearance on this planet, is something which would be a fearsome responsibility for even a sane Secretary of State, which is something we do not have now.

One has to wonder if Gardner and Menendez are closet Dominionists, but I know from a standpoint of Menendez, he is doing his best to wipe the vomit off of him, from a criminal corruption case which ended with a hung jury.

Menendez Hung Jury Sends a Powerful Message to GovernmentThe article goes on to state:

The U.S. Department of Justice had charged Menendez with doing official favors for his friend and co-defendant Salomon Melgen, a Florida eye doctor, in exchange for expensive hotel stays, private jet flights and hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions.

"While Menendez walked out of the courthouse a free man, the cloud of the corruption trial still hangs over him. Federal prosecutors have not yet said if they will re-try the case but the Senate Ethics Committee plans to resume its own investigation of Menendez."

America gets its ‘ass handed to it’ in WW3 simulations

The US may not stand a chance against Russia and China should World War III break out, advanced warfare analysts have warned.

Nonprofit global policy think tank RAND has been performing simulated war scenarios, often sponsored by the Pentagon, to test how American forces would fare against the world’s other leading military superpowers.

Last week, RAND analysts revealed that in scenario after scenario, the US has suffered severe losses despite spending nearly $1trillion annually on the military, exceeding the spending of any other country by more than double.

‘In our games, when we fight Russia and China, “blue” gets its ass handed to it,’ researcher David Ochmanek explained at the Center for a New American Security on Thursday, Breaking Defense first reported. American forces are generally color-coded in blue in the simulations.

These are the five areas where the Air Force wants to see an explosion of technology

The Air Force has a new science and technology strategy, and it’s built around the idea that the service needs to generate leap-ahead capabilities like the 1950s-era Century Series that spawned six new fighter jets in five years.

To do that, the service wants to restructure about 20 percent of its S&T efforts into “vanguard programs” that will tie together different developmental efforts across the Air Force’s research institutions and experiment with them to see whether it shows promise.

“If you’re playing hockey, you shouldn’t be shooting where the goalie is. You should be shooting where the goalie isn’t,” Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson said Wednesday. “So the idea with part of this strategy is to assess where our adversaries can’t easily go and get there first and fastest. That’s a winning strategy.”

Preposterous! Pompeo ‘setting the stage for war with Iran,’ says Bush-era official

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is “setting the stage for a war with Iran,” says a Bush-era official, claiming he sees the same pattern that developed ahead of the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Lawrence Wilkerson, who once served as chief of staff for former US Secretary of State Colin Powell, made the comments in an interview with nonprofit news organization The Real News Network.

“I’m looking at the same kind of trail, as it were, that happened just prior to the invasion of Iraq in 2003 and the same characters with a few new additions actually laying that trail down,” he said.

Pompeo was recently warned about going to war with Iran by Republican Senator Rand Paul, reminding him that he has no “permission” to do so without Congress approval.

Army's Brand-New Combat Vehicle Was Designed for the Last War, Esper Says

The secretary of the Army said today that the service could not rule out future cuts to the service's new Joint Light Tactical Vehicle program -- a vehicle that he said was essentially designed for the last war, not the next.

In March, the Army announced it would cut funding in the proposed fiscal 2020 budget for its new, high-performance JLTV to free up money for future modernization projects. The Army plans to buy only 2,530 JLTVs in the fiscal 2020 budget request, compared to last year's purchase of 3,393.

"We will have a mixed fleet of Humvees and JLTVs; we know that, and we will buy a lot of JLTVs, we know that too. But I can't tell you today whether the cut we made in this budget is the last or not," Army Secretary Mark Esper told a group of reporters today at the Pentagon.

The JLTV and the CH-47 Chinook Block II were among 93 programs Army senior leaders selected for cuts over the next five years to help free up billions of dollars for its bold modernization strategy.

Air Force leaders on space deterrence: ‘At some point, we’ve got to hit back’

Deterrence was the watchword among U.S. Air Force leadership during last week’s Space Symposium, and officials stated in strong terms that the United States is prepared to enact a show of force to prove its ability to respond to threats in space.

“There may come a point where we demonstrate some capabilities so that our adversaries understand that they will not be able to deny us the use of space without consequences,” Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson told reporters during a Wednesday roundtable.

Pompeo is “Setting the Stage for a War with Iran”

Last week, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo suggested that the Trump administration would not rule out going to war with Iran even though there is no explicit authorization from Congress to do so. Pompeo said this in the context of being asked whether the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) could be used to attack Iran on the basis that Iran supported the 9/11 attacks and is connected to Al Qaeda, which carried out the 9/11 attack.

AMERICA’S WAR AGAINST IRAN & VENEZUELA’S “DEEP STATES” IS GOING PUBLIC

it’s clear that the US desires to dismantle Iran and Venezuela’s supposedly interconnected influence networks in Latin America as the next step in fortifying “Fortress America“, and while “deep state” wars such as this one have been going on for decades, it’s hitherto unprecedented for any country to make such a crusade public since the end of the Old Cold War when the US used to make similar claims about the USSR and its communist proxies.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The trajectory that US foreign policy has taken of late, should scare the stuffing out of reasonable people; a category within which I hope,, I still belong.

You have a President who appears, at this point in his Presidency, to be a President In Name only, has now been thoroughly subsumed by the US Deep State, and ever willing to do its bidding.

The Neocon Mouthpiece, the Mouth that Pours, belongs to no other than Mike Pompeo, who appears to let his Dominionist faith rule his foreign policy. If you haven't read the following article, perhaps now is the time to do so.

The Rapture and the Real World: Mike Pompeo Blends Beliefs and PolicyThe article goes on to state:

"Though Mr. Trump is secular, white evangelicals are a big part of his voter base, and some of his major foreign policy moves, planned or supported by Mr. Pompeo, are intended to shore up political support.

The most notable examples involve Israel. When Mr. Trump moved the United States Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, evangelicals applauded.

Studies show that white evangelicals are much more likely than other Americans to believe that Israel fulfills a biblical prophecy. Known as Christian Zionists, they believe God promised the land to the Jews, and that the gathering of Jews in Israel is foretold in the prophecy of the rapture — the ascent of Christians into the kingdom of God."

Of course, Netanyahu just stands there, and smiles, knowing that whatever he wants from the US, he will get, even if it is a massive war against Iran, which will surely translate as a war against Russia, paid for only in American money, and American blood.

Mr. Pompeo talks about the rapture. “We will continue to fight these battles,” he said at a “God and Country Rally” in 2015, because there is a “never-ending struggle” until “the rapture.”

Folks, I am having a palm to forehead moment, at his having said this. This denotes ancient friends (the original Hebrews, not the Khazars who currently run Israel) and ancient enemies, with whom this flavor of Christianity wants to engage, militarily, like present day Iran, for no logical reason other than an horrific mis-read of what Christian "destiny" looks like.

What would be a "logical, sane " foreign policy, would be one of engaging, not enraging, potential geopolitical assets, like China and Russia; being a part of the belt and road economy; and learning to live within one's means as a nation.

But Dominionists (and I am certain Pompeo is one of these people), believe that by bringing the world into a living hell of a total world war, they will will pave the way for Jesus to come down, and transition all living faithful up to heaven, in what is described by them as, "THE RAPTURE".

And folks, if what I am about to post, doesn't give you the heebe-jeebies, I do not know what will. And the article is datelined last December

"Anyone wondering what the true impetus was behind U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision on Wednesday to unilaterally recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital needed only to view the image of the president when he made the formal announcement" from Harretz:

The U.S. evangelical community is in raptures over Trump's decision to declare Jerusalem the capital of Israel, believing it moves the world closer to Armageddon

The article continues to state: "Glittering Christmas decorations festooned across the White House hallway enveloped Trump, with Vice President Mike Pence deliberately – if a bit awkwardly – placed directly behind the president’s shoulder, ensuring that no camera angle could leave him out of the picture."

So folks, what we have here is a very religiously deranged person, setting US foreign policy, with unending visions of wars and more wars with which to "open the gates of both Heaven (and Hell) to attempt to achieve what Secretary of State Pompeo believes is the Bible's "last stand in Armageddon". He is, of course, aided and abetted in these manners by John Bolton, Security Council to the President.

So I submit to you; can a person whose religious fantasies rule his both life, and his illogically insane foreign policies, be a proper person to set US foreign policy, when ALL he wants, due to his eshatology, is to create a world where wars are certain, but responsible, fence-mending with potential allies is considered idiocy and lunacy?!?

Because folks, this completely off the course/on the skids path upon which we are moving, due to Pompeo's beliefs, will most likely see us at war with Russia; China; and God only knows what part of the rest of the world.

Right now, it is too damned bad that the US doesn't have a 25th Amendment equivalent to that for the President, for the Secretary of State; and it is high time that Trump see the reasons behind the wars Pompeo is trying to ignite, but are not necessary for the US or the World; they are, unfortunately, necessary for Pompeo's distorted view of the world, and its most dystopian future possible, to come to pass.

Why the the days of ‘fighter jock culture’ may be numbered

For the past half century, fighter pilots have dominated high-level leadership roles in the Air Force, much as bomber pilots did during World War II and the Cold War.

But a recent study from the Rand Corp., sponsored by the Defense Department’s Office of Net Assessment, questions whether that hierarchy — with fighter pilots first, bomber pilots second and other specializations after — continues to serve the best interests of the service, especially in terms of fostering innovation.

A New Century Series? Will Roper Takes Air Force Back To The Future

Future Air Force programs must look less like the Joint Strike Fighter and more like the iconic Century Series from the 1950s, when the newly independent Air Force fielded six new fighters from five different manufacturers in just five years.

That’s the word from the ebullient assistant secretary of the Air Force for acquisition, technology, and logistics, Will Roper. He’d just returned to Washington from the Space Symposium in Colorado Springs and was brimming with the kind of excitement you rarely see in the often-dreary acquisition world.

US Marines turned a warship into an F-35 'Lightning carrier' in a test to boost US power

The Navy and the Marines loaded up an amphibious assault ship with a heavy configuration of F-35s, and experts believe it's an experiment for a new type of light carrier known as a "Lightning Carrier."

Lightning carriers armed with F-35s could theoretically take over operations in low-end conflicts, freeing up the "supercarriers" to focus on higher-end threats such as Russia and China.

These light carriers could also boost the overall firepower of the Navy carrier force.

Navy, Army See Most Valor Medal Upgrades in Pentagon's Review

Four Medals of Honor. Thirty Service Crosses. Twenty-three Silver Stars. After a three-year review of medals for military heroism in conflicts following Sept. 11, 2001, the Pentagon has upgraded 57 awards for valor -- and so far, sailors are the biggest beneficiaries.

Officials told Military.com that the review, which was launched in 2016 and will formally conclude on Dec. 31, assessed roughly 1,400 awards in all, presented by the four Defense Department services. Some four Army awards have yet to be announced -- officials would not characterize these awards, however, and whether, as some suspect, more Medals of Honor could be forthcoming.

SECNAV defends plans to mothball aircraft carrier Truman

Navy Secretary Richard Spencer defended Wednesday a plan to retire the aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman early.

It’s a move officials say could save the sea service $30 billion over 25 years but it’s sparked bipartisan outrage on Capitol Hill.

Spencer’s comments regarding plans to cancel the mid-life refueling for the Nimitz-class carrier scheduled for 2024 came during a House Armed Services Committee hearing on the Navy’s budget request for Fiscal Year 2020.

Focusing on buying two Ford-class carriers and forgoing Truman’s refueling would allow the Navy to focus on next-generation capabilities, Spencer said.

THE PENTAGON’S BOOKKEEPING IS ATROCIOUS: THE BOOKS ARE WRONG ON EVERYTHING

The Department of Defense is the world’s worst bookkeeper. The books are so atrocious that they are wrong about everything and it’s impossible to detect just how bad the fraud and corruption that runs rampant through the Pentagon has become.

Journalist Matt Taibbi told RT’s Lee Camp that he discovered it’s not possible to make any sense of the books.

Taibbi recently dove headfirst into the insanity that is the Pentagon’s finances to find out how a much-lauded audit of the organization, (which receives half a trillion dollars a year) failed to give the DoD either a pass or fail. What Taibbi found was that the Pentagon operates under a system that is inherently unable to provide financial accountability, he said during an interview on Redacted Tonight.

US ‘most warlike nation in history’: Ex-US President Jimmy Carter

Former US President Jimmy Carter says President Donald Trump has spoken with him about China because the current US leader was worried that Beijing overtaking the US economically, saying America’s endless wars may lead to China superseding the US.

Carter, 94, said Trump called him on Saturday as he spoke during his regular Sunday School lesson at Maranatha Baptist Church in his hometown of Plains, Georgia.

He told the congregation that Trump feared China's growing economic strength and suggested the president was right to be concerned.

Some experts say China could overtake the US as the world’s largest economy by 2030 if current growth trends continue.

The former Democratic president said China was getting ahead of the US because Washington has been at war with other countries for most of its history.

Retired US Colonel: Israel Is Dragging the United States Into World War III

Israel is in the process of plunging America into a war with Iran that could destroy what’s left of the Middle East and ignite a third world war, Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, former chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell, warned in Washington approximately a week ago.

Wilkerson, a retired army colonel who now teaches at Washington-area universities, didn’t hold back in his critique of where the status quo is leading the United States via its client state, Israel.

At the annual Israel lobby conference at the National Press Club, sponsored by the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs and Institute for Research: Middle East Policy, Wilkerson explained that Israel is headed toward “a massive confrontation with the various powers arrayed against it, a confrontation that will suck America in and perhaps terminate the experiment that is Israel and do irreparable damage to the empire that America has become.”

PENTAGON WARNS "NEXT MAJOR CONFLICT MAYBE WON OR LOST IN SPACE"

"The next major conflict may be won or lost in space," Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan said at the Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Tuesday. "We must confront reality. Weapons are currently deployed by our competitors that can attack our assets in space."

Shanahan said that the U.S. Military "is not moving fast enough to stay ahead" of its rivals China and Russia in the space race. He warned that both countries have already acquired weapon technologies with the intent to strike American spy satellites in the event of conflict.

"The PLA [Chinese People’s Liberation Army] is also deploying directed-energy weapons, and we expect them to field a ground-based laser system aimed at low-earth orbit space sensors by next year," Shanahan told the audience. "They are also prepared to use cyber attacks against our space systems and have deployed an operational ground-based ASAT [anti-satellite] missile system."

White House ignores Yemen war foes' meeting request as bill nears Trump's desk

White House staff has stonewalled for more than a week a group of lawmakers asking for a meeting with President Trump in a bid to convince him to sign legislation ending the U.S. role in Yemen's civil war.

Despite an official veto recommendation from White House staff, Trump has continued to appear open-minded, saying Wednesday that the matter was "very serious" and that he would have more to say later.

Sponsors of the legislation believe Trump is willing to sign the bill, but is being told by his staff, led by national security adviser John Bolton, that he should not.

"I feel from some of his statements that he's genuinely conflicted," said Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., who signed a bipartisan letter seeking a meeting. "I think his advisers are at odds with where he is ... advisers in the administration have their own interests and may not be giving him the full picture."

Webmaster's Commentary:

US-Russia chill stirs worry about stumbling into conflict

WASHINGTON – It has the makings of a new Cold War, or worse.

The deep chill in U.S.-Russian relations is stirring concern in some quarters that Washington and Moscow are in danger of stumbling into an armed confrontation that, by mistake or miscalculation, could lead to nuclear war.

American and European analysts and current and former U.S. military officers say the nuclear superpowers need to talk more. A foundational arms control agreement is being abandoned and the last major limitation on strategic nuclear weapons could go away in less than two years. Unlike during the Cold War, when generations lived under threat of a nuclear Armageddon, the two militaries are barely on speaking terms.

"During the Cold War, we understood each other's signals. We talked," says the top NATO commander in Europe, U.S. Army Gen. Curtis Scaparrotti, who is about to retire. "I'm concerned that we don't know them as well today."

Webmaster's Commentary:

These men should be meeting weekly, so that everyone understands what is going on and why, so that the possibility of a all-our war becomes minimized through miscommunication, or "glitch".

There has to be a military version of "Skype" which can be used by both the US and Russians.

Displaced Syrians Leaving Rukban Camp Say US Occupation Forces Starved Thousands of Camp Residents

A new batch of displaced Syrians on Saturday left al-Rukban Camp in al-Tanf area near the Syrian-Jordanian borders and arrived in Jleigem corridor so as to be transferred to makeshift centers in Homs.

The process comes within the framework of the Syrian State's efforts to end the tragedy of tens of thousands of displaced citizens who have been trapped for years in the Rukban camp by US occupation forces and their affiliated terrorists positioned in al-Tanf.

SANA reporter said that tens of displaced families, most of them children, women and elderly, arrived Saturday noon at Jleigem corridor on board of trucks and tractors.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is not the first time the American military have been criticized for their handling of displace Syrians at this particular camp.

SECRET REPORT REVEALS SAUDI INCOMPETENCE AND WIDESPREAD USE OF U.S. WEAPONS IN YEMEN

SOURCE: THE INTERCEPT
SINCE THE BRUTAL murder of Saudi dissident and Washington Post contributor Jamal Khashoggi last October, Congress has increasingly pressured the Trump administration to stop backing the Saudi Arabia-led coalition fighting in Yemen and halt U.S. arms sales to Riyadh. In response, President Donald Trump has repeatedly said that if the U.S. does not sell weapons to the Saudis, they will turn to U.S. adversaries to supply their arsenals.

“I don’t like the concept of stopping an investment of $110 billion into the United States,” Trump told reporters in October, referring to a collection of intent letters signed with the Saudis in the early months of his presidency. “You know what they are going to do? They’re going to take that money and spend it in Russia or China or someplace else.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

This, unfortunately, is what happens when a country elects a Merchant of Death in Chief, who also happens to be the President of the US.

It is also unfortunate, that he has placed every citizen of this country, into the category of being a citizen of a government which commits war crimes, as has happened, and will continue to keep happening, in Afghanistan; Iraq; Libya; Somalia; and Yemen.

US MILITARY ATTACK ON VENEZUELA MULLED BY TOP TRUMP ADVISORS AND LATIN AMERICAN OFFICIALS AT PRIVATE DC MEETING

EXCLUSIVE: AWAY FROM THE PUBLIC EYE, THE CENTER FOR STRATEGIC AND INTERNATIONAL STUDIES (CSIS) THINK TANK HOSTED A TOP-LEVEL, OFF-THE-RECORD MEETING TO EXPLORE US MILITARY OPTIONS AGAINST VENEZUELA.
BY MAX BLUMENTHAL

The Washington, DC-based think tank the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) hosted a private roundtable on April 10 called “Assessing the Use of Military Force in Venezuela.” A list of attendees was provided to The Grayzone and two participants confirmed the meeting took place. They refused to offer any further detail, however.

A WHO’S WHO OF TRUMP ADMINISTRATION COUP ADVISERS

The CSIS check-in list not only confirms that the Trump administration and its outside advisors are mulling options for a military assault on Venezuela; it also outlines the cast of characters involved in crafting the regime change operation against the country.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump, please: a word.

Have you and your colleagues in this ill-considered potential assault on Venezuela, collectively imbibed the "Koolaid" to the point where you believe that a military assault on Venezuela is both a "reasonable and moral thing" for the US government and military to do?!?

Forgive me, sir, but the candidate Trump spoke of ending these horrific wars, largely to be in control of of the world's petroleum resources; and now, as President Trump, it appears to those of us who actually believed this just might happen, understand, very clearly, that it will not happen, now that you have well and truly been "absorbed" by the Neocon Borg.

Not only are these immoral, illegal wars going to continue, under your watch, but new wars are going to be started in the name American dollar hegemony, and in terms of this Venezuela is an absolute prize. As stated at Google:

"The proven oil reserves in Venezuela are recognized as the largest in the world, totaling 297 billion barrels (4.72×1010 m3) as of 1 January 2014. ... The energy and oil ministry said it had certified an additional 12.4 billion barrels (2.0×109 m3) of proven reserves in the country's Faja del Orinoco region."

As you are aware, there are Chinese and Russian troops in place in Venezuela right now, working to protect the infrastructure as best they can, and working with the Venezuelan "top brass" in terms of protecting the country from any possible invasion from the US.

Sir, forgive me, but if your alleged "experts" here have any sense, at all, they will paraphrase what my late Grandmother used to say, if things were out of control, and there was nothing to be done, and that phrase was "The horse is already out of the barn!!"

Mr. President, when Guaido faltered, and was unable to rally the Venezuelan people to his side, the US government and military "lost the window" of opportunity for such an action. (And sir, is THIS the best our "intelligence community" could have possibly come up with?!?
The Making of Juan Guaido IF true, they should be fired, en masse!!

The American government and military could have possibly "gotten away" with an action like this, even through the 70s, or 80s; however, at this point in the 21st century, let me tell you what you are facing; and sir, forgive me, but an invasion of Venezuela is going to earn you "The Mother of All Backlashes".

1. Venezuela has never done anything to the US to warrant an invasion; it is a sovereign country where its financial woes, including a collapse in oil prices; political intrigue, and mismanagement of funds and infrastructure, coupled with US sanctions, are primarily responsible for its horrific economic situation today.

2. In light of the fact that we would be invading a sovereign country where Chinese and Russian troops are already on the ground, any attack on Chinese or Russian assets, would be tantamount to an attack against China and Russia, leaving them little choice but to react in kind. And I hope you ask yourself; would a war for Venezuela's oil reserves really be worth World War III?!?

3. Because of a lack of troop strength, the US government would be forced to go back to imposing a draft, to the anger and outrage of the American people.
And I would ad this caveat: the "booming economy" you have been touting, since nearly the beginning of your presidency, has been great for the one percenters; but not so great for a lot of the rest of us. Financial wrangling with China over trade has absolutely crucified smaller farmers here in the US, and they will not soon forget it.

4. I would very much like to remind you, sir: we cannot win what is essentially a ground war from the air. The lessons of Vietnam can only be overlooked at this country's peril; any military advisors who tells you differently, are not telling you the truth.

5. The optics of such an invasion will be horrific, internationally, and the question will be asked; How could a country which holds itself in the highest moral esteem, and is perpetually in a state of self-congratulations for making good, just, and ethical decisions about foreign policy, have transformed into this rapacious, war-mongering, lunatic asylum, in which the inmates have, well and truly, taken over the asylum?!?

Mr. President, please, before it is too late, and the die is cast, abandon this course of action. Let us, for once, be "on the right side of history" by preventing this "Warmageddon" in Venezuela.

With all the US-generated hot spots around the world, where the US government is desperately trying to look like it has had a military "win", but really has not, this country has enough fires raging, geopolitically, before we set another one alight.

HAGUE COURT CAVES TO US THREATS: REJECTS AFGHAN WAR CRIMES CASE

The ICC judge claimed a lack of evidence and a poor outlook for state cooperation — the latter reason essentially meaning the US and UK have already condemned the prospect of opening such an investigation.

The ICC had previously vowed to continue to operate "undeterred" by any US threat of punitive action against the ICC when it first considered examining allegations that US personnel committed war crimes, including instances of unlawful detention and torture of Afghans, as well as killing of civilians. The window of time ICC prosecutors considered for their investigation ran from May 2003, within the opening years of the US occupation, to 2017.

“The chamber hereby decides that an investigation into the situation in Afghanistan at this stage would not serve the interests of justice and accordingly rejects the request,” the judges said in their decision, as cited by Reuters. But the obvious first question is: whose interests are being served here?

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US, it's military, the Pentagon, State Department, and Surveillance Department must know, that some of the worst excuses for torture were used here, coupled with the actual torture.

It appears that they are "circling the wagons" to attempt to salvage what is left of their "credibility", by not allowing these issues be investigated by the ICC; well, ladies and gentlemen in the Bowels of Power in DC, have I got a news flash for you; you lost it the minute the US government had attacked and began to occupy Afghanistan!

You, and your sycophantic warmongering media, have utterly lost the fight for being able to get anything right, including massive incidents of allege "friendly fire" at social gatherings, must have REALLY impressed your Afghani counterparts, who dare say nothing at the maltreatment of its prisoners of war.

And I have something I thought appropriate at this juncture: You have not converted a man because you have silenced him. – John Morley, 1st Viscount Morley of Blackburn

There are many who understand what is going on with these wars, but refuse to say anything them, because they understand the price which will most likely
have to be paid, and dearly.

And that is what has to stop; but that will only happen with a peaceful, logical, and fact-centric dialogue which we can, and should, share with each other.

Senators show deep skepticism on Space Force proposal

Members of the Senate Armed Services Committee from both parties on Thursday aired their skepticism about President Trump’s Space Force proposal as Pentagon brass sought to defend the plan.

At a hearing on the proposal, senator after senator questioned whether adding bureaucracy could have the opposite of its intended effect to improve the military’s operations in space.

“When we first heard about the proposal I asked two simple questions: What will the organization fix, and how much will it cost?” committee Chairman James Inhofe (R-Okla.) said in his opening statement. “It's come out of the administration that this is going to be a $2 billion program. So, for my purposes, I'm going to assume that's right. But I'm still waiting for the answer for the other question.”

FINANCIAL TYRANNY: AMERICA HAS BECOME A PAY-TO-PLAY EXERCISE IN FASCISM

SOURCE: JOHN WHITEHEAD VIA THE RUTHERFORD INSTITUTE
If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I’ll tax your seat.
If you get too cold I’ll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I’ll tax your feet.

Don’t ask me what I want it for
If you don’t want to pay some more
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah, I’m the taxman…
And you’re working for no one but me.
— George Harrison, “Taxman

“We the people” have become the new, permanent underclass in America.

We get taxed on how much we earn, taxed on what we eat, taxed on what we buy, taxed on where we go, taxed on what we drive, and taxed on how much is left of our assets when we die, and yet we have no real say in how the government runs, or how our taxpayer funds are used.

Case in point: Lawmakers across the country have been acting as fronts for corporations, sponsoring more than 10,000 model laws written by corporations, industry groups and think tanks such as the American Legislative Exchange Council.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This transition into Fascism, has become almost painfully complete beyond bearing; what used to be The United States of America, once thought to be "the land of the free and the home of the brave", has rapidly devolved into "The land... of the cowed And the home... of the surveilled."

And I am gently asking, no, begging our readers and listeners to start to preparing themselves, for what looks like a very rocky patch ahead, both for We the People; this country; and our world.

Folks, I don't want to be crowned "Mrs. Chicken Little" of Oahu; and I am absolutely no psychic.

But looking at the world situation, for me, there is one, central, and unvarnished truth; that the more you prepare for a massively bad situation, no matter what that might be, and when, this be cannot possibly be worse than having done no prep whatsoever.

I am seeing a number of hot spots around the world which are on a razor's edge from triggering massive regional conflicts that could quickly become world wars, if allowed to spin out of control.

But the question I have to ask now, is, which conflict zones will be allowed/ abetted in their metastatic melt-down, courtesy of US foreign policy, to become full-on wars, and perhaps, and perpetual, in their duration??

This is something I hope every American citizen (including President Trump; Mike Pompeo, and John Bolton) is thinking about.

The ratcheting up of world tensions by the fractious, hubristic, bellicose, and catastrophically unreasonable demands placed against countries the US government doesn't particularly like, is not doing anything to begin to create the calm, reasonable environment, in which good faith negotiations can grow, and thrive.

Unfortunately, I see the current ratcheting up of international tensions by the US government as a very intense indication that the US government will be going to war against (take your pick:) Syria; Iran; Venezuela; China; and a re-invasion of Iraq, as they are very unhappy with the US troop presence in Iraq.

And even more stunningly important, these countries which the US government is shunning, both economically, and militarily, immediately understood that what they had to do, to get around the US's tariffs.

And that was to create a coalition, where agreements could be made, to buy merchandise and services from each other, but using several software packages which will, most probably, will wind up consolidated.

So what has been brilliantly achieved here, is the introduction of a software platform which is capable of bypassing SWIFT, and allowing merchants, globally, to use their own software packages instead.

MAJOR: F-35 Crashes Off Japan – U.S Concerned China And Russia Will Learn How Not To Build A Fighter

The U.S appears to be concerned that if the Chinese or Russians were to find the jet first, they would learn how never to construct a 5th generation multirole fighter.

The Japanese F-35 fighter jet missing in the Pacific could be a major security headache for the U.S if Russia or China locate the state-of-the-art fighter jet first, experts warn. It would be possible that the Russians or Chinese could learn of the F-35’s other unknown vulnerabilities, besides how it spontaneously self-destructs mid-air about 50% of the time.

Will the Trump Administration Go to War Next?

Ever since Mr. MAGA made it to the White House, I have been awed by the level of sheer stupidity and, frankly, the immorality of this administration. Obama was almost as incompetent and evil, but Trump truly brought about a qualitative change in what we could loosely refer to as the “average White House IQ.” The best thing I can honestly say about Trump is that stupid can be good. Alas, it can also be extremely dangerous, and that is what is happening now. Just check out these recent headlines:

Nevertheless, all these years later, Bush’s “Global War on Terror” continues — in Iraq and in many other countries.

ALL WARS ARE BANKERS' WARS!

"The most hated sort [of moneymaking], and with the greatest reason, is usury, which makes a gain out of money itself, and not from the natural use of it. For money was intended to be used in exchange, but not to increase at interest. And this term usury which means the birth of money from money, is applied to the breeding of money, because the offspring resembles the parent. Wherefore of all modes of making money this is the most unnatural." -- Aristotle (384-322 BCE)

Japanese military confirms F-35 crash & discovery of wreckage

Defense Minister Takeshi Iwaya grounded the Air Self-Defense Force’s entire fleet of F-35As as a precaution after the aircraft went missing at about 7:30pm local time, half an hour after taking off. At the same time the fighter disappeared from the radar screens, ground control also lost all radio contact with it.

It was reportedly the first F-35A to be built at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries facility in Nagoya. In December, Japan announced plans to place an order for 105 more F-35s from the US on top of the 42 it had already bought – a deal which would make Japan the largest international buyer of the troubled plane.

Japanese Military Found F-35 Debris, Pilot Still Missing - Reports

Last August, the nonprofit Project On Government Oversight (POGO) said that senior officials developing the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter for the US armed forces — the most expensive military program of all time — are covering up dangerous flaws in the plane instead of fixing them. In particular, the Center for Defense Information at POGO obtained a document showing how F-35 officials were re-categorizing rather than fixing major design flaws to be able to claim they had completed the program’s development phase without having to pay overruns for badly needed fixes.

Moreover, a report on the F-35 last year from the US Government Accountability Office showed that the aircraft still had 111 Category One deficiencies that may cause death, severe injury, loss or major damage and that critically restricted the combat readiness capabilities of armed forces using the aircraft, POGO noted.

UK's MoD Reviewing Status of F-35s Following Japan Crash

The UK Ministry of Defence is collaborating with US authorities as they look to review the status of 17 F-35B fighter jets - the probe was initiated after a Japanese F-35 jet crashed on Tuesday in the Pacific Ocean, according to a ministry spokesperson.

"Safety is of the utmost importance and very closely managed on the F-35 programme. We will continue to review the situation as further information becomes available," the UK Ministry of Defence spokesperson noted.

The British Ministry of Defence has shown its concern as it has plans to purchase a total of 138 F-35 fighter jets developed by Lockheed Martin, according to Reuters. In November last year, Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson announced that the UK was doubling its fleet of F-35 fighters by ordering 17 more jets.

Countries arming Saudi Arabia, partners in crimes against Yemenis: Iran

Iran has strongly condemned the latest deadly airstrikes by Saudi warplanes in Yemen that killed more than a dozen civilians, most of them schoolchildren, saying countries that are arming the aggressors are complicit in the crimes.

"Countries that have caused the humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen by providing arms to the aggressors are accomplices in these crimes and must be held accountable for their support," Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Monday.

He criticized the international community for remaining silent and indifferent to the atrocities committed by the Saudi-led coalition in its military campaign against Yemen and expressed sympathy with the families of victims.

The Iranian spokesperson called on the United Nations and countries involved in the Yemeni crisis to ramp up their efforts in order to put an immediate end to the attacks and adopt necessary measures to protect civilians, particularly women and children.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Iranian Foreign Minister Qassemi, I agree entirely with your position on this.

The assassination of children, is tantamount to the destruction of a country's rightful future, bit by bit; because all of today's kids will grow up to take their rightful place in the world in the next couple of decades.

There would be no earthly reason for you to know who I am, but I would like to share this with you; my husband and Mike are both peace activists, very concerned that of late, this country seems to believe that the only way to resolve its geopolitical disputes, is the invocation, and execution, of war.

We never advocate violence, ever.

He has no patience whatsoever for idiots, fatties, losers, and especially feminists. (Lord, forgive me my redundancies.) And if you judge Popp purely by what you see on his YouTube channel, you will get a rather skewed and deeply inaccurate picture of the man.

NATO at 70: Global Enforcers of Western Imperialism

Formed in the years immediately following World War II, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), then comprised of Canada, the United States, and ten European powers, was presented to the world as a defensive pact, wherein an attack on one member is an attack on all. The Encyclopedia Britannica explains that NATO was established and conceived as “a counterweight to Soviet armies stationed in central and eastern Europe after World War II.”

Today, seventy years after its founding, the Soviet Union is no more. NATO has increased its military involvement in theatres around the world, including the former Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, the Mediterranean, and Libya. Many of these missions were framed as ‘humanitarian interventions’ or disaster relief as opposed to aggression.

Only functioning airport in Libya's Tripoli hit by air raid - reports

The only functioning airport in the Libyan capital of Tripoli has been hit in an air raid, local TV and several agencies report, citing eyewitnesses. Heavy fighting broke out between the forces of the country's two governments.
A military aircraft belonging to the Libyan National Army forces has reportedly targeted Mitiga airport, located in the Libyan capital’s eastern suburb. Commanded by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar the group challenged the government in Tripoli for power.

The Libyan authorities confirmed that the airport was closed following the airstrike, but provided no additional information on casualties or damage resulting from it. Mitiga has been the only airport used for international flights since the capital’s international airport was destroyed back in 2014.

Expected bloodbath in Tripoli an outcome of ill-advised NATO toppling of Gaddafi, historian tells RT

Libya is back in the headlines after one of its two competing governments sent troops towards Tripoli. If another bloodbath happens there, it will be the inevitable result of the 2011 NATO bombing campaign, an expert told RT.
The Northern African country was once stable and quite prosperous thanks to large revenues from oil trade. But since 2011, when NATO supported a militant uprising and helped topple, then kill, longtime strongman leader Muammar Gaddafi, it remains a fractured failed state. Last week, the unending feuds between rival factions escalated, with Khalifa Haftar, a powerful military commander, launching an offensive against his rivals from the UN-recognized government in Tripoli.

The general is unlikely to immediately heed calls for a political settlement, believes US political commentator and historian Gerald Horne. This may escalate into a major battle in the capital.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Please remember; Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, was cheer-leading for Gaddafi's removal, and by any means necessary; once he had been assassinated, this threw the country into turmoil in 2011, and 8 years on, the turmoil continues.

This was one of the most spectacular "epic fails" of Clinton's tenure as Secretary of State, and ... if (God help us, no), she decides to run for President, and wins, one has to wonder; what other spectacular defects in her logic and vision will she demonstrate to both this country and the world?!?

I am looking at many of the possible geopolitical situations here which could go "mammary glands up" in a heartbeat, if unsound, or truly monumentally bad decisions are made by this country's leadership about how the US should approach challenges abroad.

So color me nervous about Libya right now; there are many factions looking at what seizing Tripoli, and the country, could mean for them, economically; and I would rather suspect that the US government is standing right in front of that line, trying to figure out how best to conjure a Lybia 2.0 invasion, but struggling to find ways which potentially insure, that the optics of such an invasion...appear to be a very different kind of animal, let's say, for example, like perhaps several battalions of enraged, GMO'd kangaroos, covertly chucking death stars out their pouches.

BUT, MIND YOU, THIS WILL NOT BE AN INVASION!!

But seriously, I have to wonder, if I had family in Libya, how I would get them out, or get them to safety, if the airports are ordered closed because of an on-coming military attack? If I had kids, or medically fragile elderly members who needed special care, and attention.

These are the kinds of brutal choices many families in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia must make on a daily basis; but for me, the worst of this is, that these decisions are far too frequently a direct result of US foreign policy in their countries.

Time will, of course, resolve this; but to see so many people throughout the Middle East are are suffering, and will suffer so catastrophically because the international battles for their oil (usually courtesy of the Unhinged, Surveilled State of America).

I know that I am a citizen of a country whose leadership is very comfortable with being war criminals. As a Christian Pacifist, I never advocate violence.

But my suggestion here, is that my brother and sister Americans, need, urgently, to have a national conversation about what we can do (again peacefully) to assist our government in creating a different tone of its foreign policies, which might resemble a reasonably sane foreign policy.

Sanity in foreign policy tends to lead to peaceful, amicable relations with a country's neighbors, and the world.

This government desperately needs to rediscover what that means.

Poland's Former Army Chief Floats US Pre-Emptive Nuclear Strike On Russia

One of Poland's top former military commander's who led the country's Land Forces until 2009, General (ret.) Waldemar Skrzypczak, has made stunning remarks on the nature of the "Russian threat" to Europe and the readiness of western allies to deploy nuclear weapons in any future conflict.

Alarmingly, his recent remarks during an interview with Polish media conglomerate Wirtualna Polska this week likely reflect powerful and hawkish elements of the Polish military establishment who along with Skrzypczak now see Poland as a bulwark against "aggression from the East." The retired general imagined a future scenario of conflict where a US nuclear strike would be welcomed and necessary as "the most reasonable response".

Webmaster's Commentary:

Forgive me, but has this gentleman gone completely, barking mad, to make such a suggestion?!?

There is nothing either reasonable, or sane, about a decision to use a nuclear bomb; and a first strike capability, makes the optics of such an attack one of the most morally wretched moves I could think of.

So I would like to politely point out to General Waldemar Skrzypczak, that at this point in human civilization (if one can call humans "civilized" which is sometimes a stretch), that what the world needs right now, are hard-one, practical negotiations between the world's neighbors, independent political bodies, and quasi-military organisations ( like NATO) to ratchet down geopolitical tension, and start working on good faith, relationship-building efforts.

I would like to strongly caution against war as being the preferred "weapon of choice" with which governments frequently attempt to resolve their geopolitical differences; because at the end of the day, someone is going to do something so pig-headedly, ham-fisted stupid, that there will be no way back, and we have made something of this earth which is inimical to to bringing back any life on this planet whatosever.

Trump's Neocons See Erdogan As Their Ticket To A Region-Wide MidEast War

Authored by Mike Whitney via The Unz Review,

Turkish troops and armored units are massed along Turkey’s southern border awaiting orders to invade northern Syria. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wants to clear a ten mile-deep swath of land east of the Euphrates River in order to remove terrorist-linked militants (YPG) currently occupying the territory. The proposed offensive would put US Special Forces in the line of fire which significantly increases the likelihood of US casualties. If American troops are killed or wounded by the Turkish operation, Washington will respond in force leading to a potentially catastrophic face-off between the two NATO allies. The possibility of a violent clash between Turkey and the United States has never been greater than it is today.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder, in terms of the neocons, if plans are already in play for a "false flag" here, to be blamed on Turkey, as the US "provocation/justification" for an attack against it.

Dicey in the extreme?? But possible, as a way of distracting American voters who are fed up with Russiagate; stagnating salaries; and the horrific hardening of political lines in this country where, to some people, beating up someone who disagrees with you is a perfectly rational thing to do?!?

You bet your sweet bippy!!

And let us not forget that in tomorrow's Israeli election, Prime Minister Netanyahu is betting on re-election for a 5th term, in spite of corruption charges being laid against him.

He could really use international focus going...elsewhere.

After Golan, are Trump and Netanyahu coming for West Bank?

A warning: If Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is still in office in late 2020 or 2024, when President Donald Trump’s time in office is coming to a close, there is a good chance the two leaders will declare American recognition of Israeli annexation of all or most of the occupied West Bank.

The precedent for such a move was put in place Monday as two significant anti-Arab events took place in Washington.

First, at the annual AIPAC conference, Democratic and Republican speakers alike ignored the Israeli occupation of Palestinian and Arab territory, choosing instead to rail against Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, who has been vilified for openly criticizing the powerful Israel lobby group’s outsize influence.

A bipartisan consensus pretended that AIPAC was being silenced, turning on its head the reality that the organization is supporting legislation seeking to silence supporters of Palestinian rights.

In a short answer to the rhetorical question asked at the beginning of this article, HELL, yes!!

THE MANAGEMENT OF SAVAGERY: PRO-WAR LOBBYISTS PUSH TO BAN BOOK EXPOSING REGIME CHANGE WARS

Authored by Alexander Rubinstein via MintPress News

The Syrian American Council and a collection of pro-war lobbyists have led an intimidation campaign aimed at bullying a major Washington-based bookstore, Politics and Prose, into canceling award-winning journalist and author Max Blumenthal’s launch event for his new book The Management of Savagery.

And it appears to have worked. Politics and Prose announced that it would “postpone” the event, citing “concerns” over the event’s “format, substance, … [and] security” in a tweet. In a testament to the ferocity of the harassment campaign against the small chain, the company has pinned the statement to the top of its Twitter page so that anyone visiting it sees immediately that they caved.

Turns out Pentagon was bombarded with ‘whistleblower complaint every 6 minutes’ – Lee Camp

As astonishing as that number might seem, the amount of people sounding the alarm within the system is not really surprising, Camp noted – considering the previous multiple reports of the military losing track of trillions of dollars.

The military leads all other professions in the number of days spent drinking per year, study claims

Whether it’s shutting down an entire country’s beer supply, going on a beer-only diet for Lent, or reaching a state of intoxication so severe that one breaks into someone’s home, gets naked and takes a shower, the association between service member and alcohol is well established.

It should come as no surprise, then, that data pulled from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and analyzed by the Delphi Behavioral Health Group revealed that service members consume alcohol on more days of the year than any other profession.

Sacrebleu! Civilian accidentally ejected from French fighter jet during fly-along

A privileged experience of a fly-along in a French Air Force Rafale B fighter jet went terribly wrong last month for one civilian who was shockingly ejected from the jet during a takeoff from Saint Dizier Air Base in northeastern France.

The unidentified 64-year-old passenger, who “does not belong to the [French] Ministry of Armed Forces,” sustained back injuries but was listed in stable condition after being taken to the hospital, according to Aerotime News Hub.

“His health condition is not a cause for concern,” Col. Cyrille Duvivier, spokesman for the French Air Force, told Aerotime News.

In many cases, fly-along opportunities are extended to elected officials or those in the press to highlight capabilities of the aircraft, according to reports.

But aviation experts agree randomly firing passengers into the sky is typically not one of those capabilities.

‘We did not expect the world to be silent’: US continuing to kill civilians with impunity

The Trump administration, which made promises to rein in Washington’s unnecessary wars, has not only expanded the US’ covert and lethal drone program, but has taken the covering up of its civilian death toll to a whole new level.
Like most of the battlefields opened more widely under the Obama administration, Donald Trump ramped up airstrikes against the infamous Al-Shabaab terrorist group in Somalia approximately two years ago. And, like most drone wars expanded under Obama and dramatically widened under Trump, the details of this covert assault are continuously swept under the rug, particularly when it comes to civilian casualties.

The Pentagon has openly said that its airstrikes in Somalia have killed zero civilians.

Webmaster's Commentary:

(Sigh) why is it, in American National elections, the voting public gets its alleged "choice" between two evils, which means, you have no choice but voting for who you think is the lesser evil?

This is a real problem for voting, intelligent citizens who want to have their voices heard in DC, and get a better deal for themselves in terms of opportunities and work.

But by the time our Presidential candidates get vetted by the military industrial complex; major multinational corporations; and various civil and religious organizations, we can expect only one series of outcomes; more wars; more destruction of our infrastructure; more dumbing down of our kids with an "educational system" that fails its students; and more taxes which never come back to us in goods and services.

It doesn't matter who we vote for; the American deep state has always had its imperious sway, with both domestic and foreign policies.

Right now, I feel like I'm living in Terry Gilliam's "Brazil" (a marvellous metaphor for the state of far too many Americans in 2019), where lodging is ramshackle; no individual thinking is allowed; and torture is completely, and openly embraced by a dictatorship, as a way of keeping people "controlled."

And if you haven't seen it, please get "the Director's Cut; this is utterly brilliant.

Islamabad Has 'Reliable Intel' India Readying New Attack on Pakistan

This comes a day after Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan slammed India’s governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for purportedly trying to use false claims of Pakistan using an F-16 in the February dogfight between the two countries to promote “war hysteria”.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has claimed that he has “reliable intelligence that India is planning a new attack on Pakistan” which may take place between 16 and 20 April.

“I am saying it with responsibility and I have a responsible position, I know each word I say would make headlines in the international press”, Qureshi said.

He added that New Delhi’s planned attack aims to “increase diplomatic pressure against Pakistan." India’s Foreign Ministry is yet to comment on the matter.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would implore a couple of "adults in the room" (ladies and gentlemen, who know who you are) to please start working the phones on this, and see if might be possible for the tensions to ratcheted down here, in a deal to create, and foster, peace, and good business relationships between both countries.

Both are nuclear armed countries, and this could escalate completely out of control, if leadership in neither country wants to take a responsible stand toward a greater peace in the region.

Lawmakers Urge Trump Not to Veto Yemen War Powers Challenge

Letter says Trump has opportunity to restore cooperation with Congress.

A bipartisan group of lawmakers from both the Senate and the House have issued a letter to President Trump urging him not to veto the SJ Res 7 War Powers Act challenge to the Yemen War. The resolution passed the Senate last month, and the House on Thursday.

The War Powers Act requires the president to get the approval of Congress for any overseas military conflicts, and allows Congress to demand a withdrawal form those nations if the operation is unauthorized. The Yemen War was never authorized by Congress.

President Trump has threatened to veto the resolution, and the letter urges him not to, arguing that he has an historic opportunity to set a precedent for cooperation with Congress by complying with the law and ending an unconstitutional war that was launched under President Obama.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I absolutely agree with these bipartisan members of Congress; unfortunately, because there is still so much "bromance and pull" between Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, also know in Yemen as "The Butcher of Yemen", and President Trump, I would be amazingly surprised if he did not veto.

But what has happened in Yemen, for the last 3 years, is a level of butchery and genocide against the Yemeni people, that it definitely comes up to the standar of US-abetted Saudi war crimes in Yemen.

I actually never wanted to be a citizen of a country which commits war crimes; and here I am, nearly 70, and watching the madness of the last several administrations, from Bush II to President Trump, operating very overtly; with impunity; and with no question as to whether these actions are morally right, or morally repugnant.

The steps of the pattern emerge very clearly, if you are looking for them.

First, we see demonizations of countries with the resources the US wants; then the regime change of demonized leadership happens; the then, there is an "anointing " of a US-centric leader or leaders; and finally, the assignment of US- centric companies to expropriate those resources; and sell them only for American dollars.

When Karl Marx made the observation that all wars are economic in their origins, the guy was absolutely correct.

And again, I find it very interesting, that President Trump's BBFs in the Middle East, are the Butcher of Gaza, Israel's Bibi Netanyahu, and Crown Prince bin Salman, the Butcher of Yemen.

I'm As Mad As Hell And I'm Defecting To The Syrian Army in Hasaka

Hundreds of US-Backed SDF Fighters Join Syrian Army in Hasaka

A large number of Syrian Democratic Forces have joined the Syrian Army in Hasaka Province as the SDF has launched widespread forced recruitment of fighters in areas under its control in Eastern Syria, field sources said.
"Over 200 SDF fighters have recently defected and surrendered to the Syrian Army in Hasaka province," the battlefield sources in Hasaka province reported.

The sources reiterated that the Kurdish forces have forced over 1,000 young people in Hasaka to join the SDF over the past month by conducting large-scale arrests and raids in areas under their control in Raqqa, Manbij, Hasaka and Deir Ezzur.

The sources pointed to people's discontent and anger from the Kurdish forces'>>>

US must choose between Turkey and terrorists’: Ankara slaps Pence with counter-ultimatum

Turkey’s vice president said his US counterpart must choose between an alliance with a loyal NATO partner or siding with terrorists, after Mike Pence issued an ultimatum for Ankara to pick its F-35 jets over Russian S-400 systems.
“The United States must choose. Does it want to remain Turkey’s ally or risk our friendship by joining forces with terrorists to undermine its NATO ally’s defense against its enemies?” Vice President Fuat Oktay tweeted, in response to Mike Pence’s demands.

The Turkish official did not make clear what “terrorists” he was talking about. Ankara is at odds with Washington over the military support it provides to Syrian Kurdish militias which are designated as terrorist organizations in Turkey.

That aside, self-exiled Turkish cleric Fethullah Gulen, whose entity Turkey accuses of plotting the 2016 coup attempt, has found a safe haven in the US which also poisons relations between the two NATO allies.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It appears that Pence has fully accepted his position as the Vice"merchant of death in Chief", when it comes to hawking US weapons systems other countries really don't want to buy.

But that he threatened Turkey in this very public way, is not going to get him any favors from Turkey, which may be thinking seriously about resigning their NATO membership, and that really poses a problem for NATO.

Because of it bordering both Europe and Central Asia, straddling the Black Sea and Mediterranean Seas, along with bordering Bulgaria; Iran; Syria; Cypress; Armenia and Georgia, Turkey is strategically vital to NATO's operations.

And I have to wonder; after a not so lustrous showing in Turkey's general elections, will NATO decide that Turkey needs a "regime change"?!? Were I Edrogan, I would want to think about this very, very carefully.

U.S Urges NATO To Increase Surveillance To Contain Russia In The Black Sea

The US is working on a package of measures aimed at boosting the alliance’s presence in the Black Sea, US ambassador to NATO Kay Bailey Hutchison said on Tuesday.

According to the preliminary data, the package will be presented to the other NATO member countries during the next NATO meeting in Washington and provides for increased vigilance and the sending of more alliance vessels to the Black Sea.

“We have been working on a package to present to the foreign ministers and it is a package with surveillance, with air surveillance, as well as more of the NATO country ships going into the Black Sea to assure that there is safe passage for Ukrainian vessels through the Kerch Strait, the Sea of Azov,” Hutchison said on Tuesday. “It is very important for Bulgaria as well as the other countries surrounding the Black Sea that we have more attention to assuring that those waters are cleared and also that the countries in and around the Black Sea are safe from Russian meddling.”

Netanyahu, Israel's 'King Bibi', in quest for fifth term

Jerusalem (AFP) - Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's long domination of Israeli politics has earned him the nickname "King Bibi" but he now faces the twin risks of a strong political challenger in an April 9 election and possible indictment for corruption.

Should he win again for a fifth term in office, Netanyahu will be on track to surpass Israel's founding father David Ben-Gurion's record of more than 13 years in office.

But opinion polls show Netanyahu's right-wing Likud locked in a close battle with a centrist alliance led by former armed forces chief of staff Benny Gantz.

The attorney general has announced his intention to indict Netanyahu on fraud, bribery and breach of trust charges pending a hearing, which will be held after the election.

Netanyahu is not legally required to resign if indicted, only if convicted with all appeals exhausted, but political pressure would likely be intense.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Should Netanyahu get re-elected, this is bad news for Israelis, Palestinians, and the world in general.

These corruption charges are not going away, no matter how Netenyahu tries to minimize them as "a misunderstanding".

He is now a cornered, politically wounded animal; and both people, and animals are at their nastiest when they are both cornered, and wounded.

Today is 5 April; the Israeli General Elections are this Tuesday, 9 April.

I wonder just what kind of a stunt he will pull, to try to create in a "further misdirection " away from those charges. And heaven knows, there are opportunities abounding in terms of what he might do, like a strike into Syria; the re-taking of Gaza at gunpoint; or an invasion of Lebanon.

Just color me very concerned about this coming weekend, and what he may try to do to get the Israeli voting public, voting for him, rather than Gantz.

Libyan strongman Haftar orders troops to move on Tripoli

Eastern Libyan commander Khalifa Haftar has ordered his troops to move on the capital Tripoli, seat of the UN-backed government of Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj.
In an audio address broadcast to his troops and published on Facebook, Haftar ordered all army units to “advance to Tripoli,” and free the capital from “militias and terrorists.” The Thursday address came hours after Haftar’s forces captured the town of Gharyan, 100km south of the capital.

Haftar also vowed to protect foreigners, civilians and those surrendering to his troops, promising to ensure their “safety and security.”

Drone-filmed footage shows scores of Haftar's Libyan National Army (NLA) vehicles en route to the capital, most of them machine-gun-armed 'technicals.'

Webmaster's Commentary:

Looks like the US-ordered assassination of Gaddafi, has caused this country to spin completely out of control, much to the US government's embarrassment.

So what are they going to do with Khalifa Haftar, order an "Assassination 2.0" on the guy?!?

Liberal Dark Money Group to Receive Private Briefing From House Dem Jerrold Nadler

Democracy Alliance holds private gathering at luxury Austin hotel, plots nearly $300 million in new political spending.

AUSTIN—The largest donors on the left will be given a private briefing on investigations into President Donald Trump by House Judiciary Committee chairman Jerrold Nadler (N.Y.) during a secretive Texas gathering this week, according to documents obtained exclusively by the Washington Free Beacon.

The Democracy Alliance, a group of millionaire and billionaire funders of the liberal movement, is holding its Spring Partner Retreat and Strategy Conference at the Four Seasons hotel in Austin, where security has been patrolling the meeting areas since Wednesday. As always at the group's secretive meetings, all programming is off the record and closed to members of the media.

US DENIES VISA TO ICC CHIEF PROSECUTOR, UNHAPPY WITH HER PROBING AMERICAN WAR CRIMES IN AFGHANISTAN

Washington has annulled the entry visa of Fatou Bensouda, chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, after the State Department vowed to shield Americans from “unjust prosecutions” of possible war crimes in Afghanistan.

“We can confirm that the US authorities have revoked the prosecutor’s visa for entry into the US,” Bensouda’s office told Reuters in an email. However, the move should not restrict her travels to the UN headquarters in New York City.

Over the last two years, the Gambian lawyer has been probing US-led war crimes in Afghanistan but has not yet opened a formal investigation into alleged atrocities conducted over the last 18 years. For now, the preliminary inquiry remains in Pre-Trial Chamber, even though Bensouda found a “reasonable basis to believe that war crimes and crimes against humanity have been committed in connection with the armed conflict in Afghanistan.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is a link to this lady's CV: Fatou Bensouda, Judge at the International Criminal Court

So, IF everything we have been doing in Afghanistan was moral, stable, and the us military are not killing people indiscriminately, what the hell is Pompeo afraid of?!?

The reality on the ground here, must be pretty horrific, for him to deny this lady a visa.

When I was a kid growing up, I read about how the USA was the greatest country in the world; but when I got into Junior College, I had to revise what I thought about this country; I got ... awakened, at that point.

Many of my young friends wound up in Vietnam, as "cannon fodder" for this insane and immoral war, which allowed a lot of military equipment get "eaten up", so the military industrial complex could sell our military more stuff.

Many of those friends didn't make it back, or emotionally, didn't make it all the way back; one, in fact, committed suicide when he got back to the States.

Pompeo's refusal to grant this lady a visa, is pretty condemning evidence, that much of what she thought had happened in Afghanistan, but didn't quite have the evidence for, is damningly true.

And what else is damningly true, is that the United States of America, has devolved into "the land of the cowed... and the home of the surveilled."

The US has become "War Crimes R Us", as indicated by the US moves against Afghanistan; Iraq; Libya; Somalia, Yemen, and more recently, Venezuela.

All those who are now citizens of the Unhinged, Surveilled State of America, are citizens of a country which commits war crimes with impunity.

I don't know how that makes you feel, when this realization hits; but frankly, from my perspective, it really ... bites.

As a kid, I never believed that the US could create the amount of mayhem and destruction internationally that it has; now, I know better.

So, what do we do?!?

Violence is never the answer, and those in our military and beyond, will most probably obey their orders, when told to "exterminate American citizens with extreme prejudice."

We need to have a peaceful, honest conversation with each other, and those who allegedly represent us in Congress.

We tell them, logically, and rationally, how these wars are killing our economy, and preventing this country from improving its infrastructure, which is crumbling as I type this.

And we tell them, gently, that we will be looking, very analytically, at their voting records, when it comes to war-related issues, and if they are incapable of pulling away from the warmongers, the next time they are up for re-election, they will not win it.

At the end of the day, these are the only choices we have left right now; but we have to exercise them collectively, or the US government will just brush us off.
