Israel threatens to arrest and try passengers of international ships bound for Gaza

Israeli authorities have warned that they will arrest any peace activists who participate in international aid convoys bound for the Gaza Strip and put them on trial. According to Maarif Hebrew newspaper, "Israel sent a clear warning to the international community with the announcement that it plans to arrest, conduct a thorough investigation and prosecute any person on board the ships that are expected to arrive soon."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to the Israeli government: such actions, after the flotilla massacre, will not deter these flotillas from coming.

In fact, this announcement will probably have the absolutely opposite effect.

Making public martyrs out of any and all humanitarian aid workers attempting to bring desperately needed supplies to Gaza is probably going to focus the world's attention even more intently on the Israeli siege of Gaza, and you will see boycott and disinvestment moves against Israel skyrocket.

Beatings, arrests, nighttime raids and dubious indictments

M., a Haaretz reader from Zichron Yaakov, was disturbed by reports about the manner in which Palestinian children are arrested in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. They are being detained held in the middle of the night, held in conditions of fear and pain before their interrogations, and then finally interrogated without the presence of their parents or a lawyer.

Webmaster's Commentary:

California on 'verge of system failure’

Arnella Sims has seen a lot in her 34 years as a Los Angeles County court reporter, but nothing like this.

Case files piling up by the thousands, phones ringing off the hook, forced midweek courthouse closings and occasional brawls as frustrated citizens queue for hours to pay parking fines.

“People think we’re becoming a Third World country,” said Ms. Sims, 55. “They don’t understand.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

VIDEO: MUST SEE TO UNDERSTAND GULF OIL GEOLOGIC SITUATION

The Mississippi River runs along a major geological faultline. The Macondo well was the result of the Deepwater Horizon drilling along the Mississippi Canyon - as I understand it, the extension of that same faultline under the sea.

Israel reserves right to stop Lebanon-Gaza flotilla

Israel told the United Nations on Friday it reserved its right to use "all necessary means" to stop ships that it said planned to try to sail from Lebanon to bring aid to Gaza, blockaded by the Jewish state.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Look for Israel to sink the Lebanese humanitarian aid ships to re-start their war with Lebanon.

UN Secretrary General Decries Israeli Investigation

After a drumbeat of criticism against the Israeli investigation of the Gaza flotilla attack, UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon has joined in, noting the Israeli panel does not rise the level of a credible international inquiry. Ban also reinforced the criticism of the Israel siege of Gaza, saying the announcement of an easing of the blockade is insufficient to satisfy the world’s concern for easing Gaza’s suffering:

General Petraeus Starts Moving the Goalposts on Afghanistan Withdrawal

Responding to a question from HASC Ranking Member Buck McKeon (R-Calif.), Petraeus said that yes, he supports the July 2011 date as the beginning of a process. But, he complained, that date was based on a projection from last Fall. He said we'll do everything humanly possible (well, everything humanly possible within the constraints of a brutal, costly strategic frame that's not working) to achieve those conditions. When asked by McKeon whether July 2011 was based on conditions and not just a date on the calendar, he said, "That's correct." And, when asked whether he'd recommend delaying the withdrawal if those conditions didn't materialize, he confirmed it.

Blackwater Firm Gets $120 Million U.S. Government Contract

The State Department has awarded a part of what was formerly known as Blackwater Worldwide a contract worth more than $120 million for providing security services in Afghanistan.

Private security firm U.S. Training Center, a business unit of the Moyock, N.C.-based Blackwater, now called Xe Services, was awarded the contract Friday, a State Department spokeswoman said Friday night.

The awarding of the contract comes just more than four months after the government of Iraq ordered hundreds of Blackwater-linked security guards to leave the country within seven days or face possible arrest.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Notice that the announcement was made yesterday evening, which is when elements of the Federal Government love to dump possibly unsavory information, so that by Monday, things like this become "old news."

One has to wonder just how incestuous the relationship still is between the State Department and XE SERVICES, and if the other two companies bidding this contract ever really had a chance.

Israel Closes Gaza Trade Crossings

Despite Israel’s Thursday decision to “ease restrictions on Gaza”, the Israeli Authorities closed all trade crossings leading to the coastal region.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This was a bluff by Israel. They hoped that if they announced the opening of the crossings that the world's attention would drift away from the attack on the aid workers. That did not work, so Israel has reverted true to form and re-imposed the starvation blockade.

In desperate search for recruits, Israeli army targets foreigners

A new organisation is actively recruiting scores of non-Israeli Jews, many of them American, to serve in the Israeli army as it faces threats on multiple fronts in a region largely hostile towards it.

At present, a little over half of all Israelis are conscripted into the army for a mandatory three years straight after school, while some non-Jews from the local Bedouin and Druze communities serve as well.

Not all relish it, though, and many are able to obtain exemptions on religious or medical grounds, while others simply refuse to serve for conscientious reasons.

Mr Schultz dismissed the potential pitfalls of an American teenager swearing allegiance to Israel on the one hand and the United States on the other.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Nuclear-armed Israel has no "threats" against it, other than those created by its own behavior toward the Palestinians and their neighbors. The victim card has been played once too often, and no thinking person could ever characterized Israel as "the victim" at this point in its history.

Any American who swears allegiance to Israel should stay in Israel, after their term of service.

No man can serve two masters.

THE TIME OF TESTING IS HERE

I cannot stress just how important it is for you to take the time out to read the following piece. To put it succinctly, Richard Cook covers everything that is happening in the world in to day in terms I don’t think many of us have heard before. I feel blessed to be able to offer such light to you all. For indeed, as dour as the things we face may be, through this piece, we will UNDERSTAND and KNOW what is happening to a great degree. And just those gifts of light through the darkness strengthen and arm us to do the best we possibly can. And that is why this is The Time of Testing.

Progressives Want “Direct Action” and a Disarmed Public

Progressive William Rivers Pitt has lost patience with the Obama regime and with British Petroleum (Enough of This Crap, June 15, Truthout). To break through the news blackout that BP maintains over the ongoing Gulf of Mexico oil spill, he wants a hundred thousand Americans to “just show the hell up down there and demand access.”

Pitt is correct that this “is the kind of direct action that has been missing from our national narrative, not just in the Gulf but all over.” Obama, he says correctly, is a “narcotic” for progressives. Apparently, for many progressives having a black man, or a 50% black man, in the White House is what is important, not the fact that he is a continuation of Bush/Cheney.

If a hundred thousand people marched on the Gulf Coast, “big things would happen.”

U.N. Leader Criticizes Israeli Plan for Inquiry

The panel announced by Israel to investigate the deadly assault on a flotilla seeking to run the Gaza blockade lacks adequate international weight to make the panel credible, the United Nations secretary general said Friday.

Although Israel gave two foreigners observer status on the panel, Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said that most countries he had consulted agreed that “it is not sufficient enough to have international credibility.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Allowing Israel to investigate the attack on the aid flotilla is like asking Charlie Manson to investigate the Sharon Tate murders.

North America faces years of toxic oil rain from BP oil spill chemical dispersants

When you pour more than a million gallons of toxic chemical dispersants on top of an oil spill, it doesn’t just disappear. In this case, it moves to the atmosphere, where it will travel hundreds, if not thousands of miles from the site of the BP oil spill, in the form of toxic rain.

BP’s oil spill-fighting dispersant of choice is Corexit 9500. It has been banned in Europe for good reason. Corexit 9500 is one of the most environmentally enduring, toxic chemical dispersants ever created to battle an oil spill. Add to that the millions of gallons of oil that have been burned, releasing even more toxins into the atmosphere, and you have a recipe for something much worse than acid rain.

The Gulf Gusher & the NWO Agenda

None of this can be chalked up to accident. The geological properties of the area, and the nature of the deep oil system, were well known to the experts. The Gulf is one of the oldest and most studied drilling areas in the world. Any legitimate attempt to tap into that deep oil system would have called for better-than- usual safety measures, not systematically shoddy safety measures. Deep Water Horizon was an accident meant to happen, and the witnesses have been scared into silence.

Interior Probe Finds Fraternizing, Porn and Drugs at MMS Office in La.

Federal officials who oversaw drilling in the Gulf of Mexico accepted gifts from oil companies, viewed pornography at work and even considered themselves part of industry, the Interior Department inspector general says in a new report (pdf).

Webmaster's Commentary:

Obama and the Congress had 400 days to get the MMS to do their proper job, and failed. I guess they were too busy telling us all that whereas Japan attacking Americans to protect the illegal occupation of China was grounds for war, Israel attacking Americans to protect the illegal occupation of Gaza is really cool!

How the ultimate BP Gulf disaster could kill millions

Documents from several years ago indicate that the subterranean geologic formation may contain the presence of a huge methane deposit.

None other than the engineer who helped lead the team to snuff the Gulf oil fires set by Saddam Hussein to slow the advance of American troops has stated that a huge underground lake of methane gas—compressed by a pressure of 100,000 pounds per square inch (psi)—could be released by BP's drilling effort to obtain the oil deposit.

Current engineering technology cannot contain gas that is pressurized to 100,000 psi.

BP oil spill caused by 'negligence or misconduct', says drilling partner

Anadarko says BP should foot entire bill for cleanup as new estimates show spill could last for up to four more years.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Folks, we expect corporations to take stupid risks in the name of profits. The Federal Government taxed us to create and fund oversight agencies like the MMS. But the MMS failed to do its job. We now know that the Deepwater Horizon was showing clear signs of trouble in February, enough that the insiders started dumping their stock. At this point the MMS should have stepped in and said, "Let's slow down until we are sure of what we are doing here. " But the MMS was accepting gifts from the oil companies (including hookers), doing cocaine and watching porn on their taxpayer funded computers.

So yes, BP screwed up. But they were acting true to form. The failure was with the Federal Government which collects huge amounts of tax money with the mandate of taking care of the United States of America; a duty they have abandoned in their rush to take care of Wall Street, cronies, and of course, Israel.

Million-dollar-a-minute summit worth it, insists Stephen Harper aide

OTTAWA—Canada’s twin summits are ringing in at nearly a million dollars a minute but the cost is worth it because Prime Minister Stephen Harper and other leaders will get a chance to let their hair down and talk “face-to-face,” a PMO spokesperson said Friday.

Explaining the eye-popping cost of next weekend’s meetings, which will ding taxpayers for about $833,000 per minute of actual leaders’ meeting time, Dimitri Soudas said G8 and G20 leaders face daunting challenges from a struggling economy, global warming, rogue nuclear states and crises in Afghanistan, the Korean peninsula and the Middle East.

“You actually need leaders sitting around the table having these difficult discussions, making progress,” Soudas told reporters in a pre-summit briefing.

And let's be honest. This push for the scanners has nothing to do with security. Today we managed to attend two demonstrations organized by residents of Wad Rahhal and Al-Ma’sara. In the former, the military ‘intelligence” officer named ‘Fadi’ came to check things out. This is the same guy who told me before my trip to the US last March that I should not leave. The morning after I left, Israeli army came in the middle of the night and surrounded my house ostensibly looking to arrest me. In today’s demonstration he first tried to discredit me by claiming ‘friendship’ and ‘closeness’ (those in attendance knew this tactic). Then he tried verbal threats and intimidation. While his soldiers prevented us from getting to where my car was parked, he made a point of driving to it within view of us and “checking it out” (we have video).

Report: US battleships cross Suez Canal

Eleven American battleships and an Israeli one crossed the Suez Canal Friday en route to the Red Sea, the London-based al-Quds al-Arabi newspaper reported.

According to the report, traffic in the canal was halted for several hours in order to allow US Navy vessels, which included an aircraft carrier and carried infantry troops, armored vehicles and ammunition, to pass from the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea.

It was further reported that eyewitnesses detected an Israeli warship among the vessels. No confirmation has been received from Egyptian authorities.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel gets caught trying to sell a nuclear weapon to South Africa possibly made with weapons-grade uranium Israel stole from the United States.

Now it appears that Israel actually did sell a nuclear weapon to North Korea! Three of Israel's German-supplied Dolphin submarines are cruising off the coast of Iran armed with 220 Kiloton nuclear cruise missiles (about 20 times Hiroshima).

And Iran, which is building a power station and medical isotopes BUT NO WEAPONS, is the "problem" requiring the sacrifice of more American money and more American lives in service to the nation that just attacked Americans in international waters.

Look in a mirror, people; we are the bad guys this time out!

Who Died And Made BP The King Of The Gulf Of Mexico?

Who Died And Made BP The King Of The Gulf Of Mexico?
Michael Snyder | Jun. 18, 2010, 8:12 AM |
In recent weeks, BP has almost seemed more interested in keeping the American people away from the oil spill than in actually cleaning it up.
Journalists are being pushed around and denied access, disaster workers are being intimidated and abused and now BP has even go so far as to hire an army of private mercenaries to enforce their will along the Gulf coast. Are we suddenly living in occupied Iraq? How in the world did a foreign oil company get the right to start pointing guns at the American people? The last time I checked, BP did not own the Gulf of Mexico and did not have the right to tell the American people where they can and cannot go.

Medvedev Pushes Ruble Reserve Currency to Cut Dollar Dominance

Russia wants the ruble to be one of the world’s reserve currencies as President Dmitry Medvedev renews his push to reduce the dollar’s dominance and make Moscow a global financial hub.

“Only three, five years ago it seemed like a fantasy” to create a new reserve currency, Medvedev said yesterday in a speech in St. Petersburg, Russia. “Now we are seriously discussing it.”

U.S. Testing Pain Ray in Afghanistan (Updated)

Update: “We are currently not testing the Active Denial System in Afghanistan,” Kelley Hughes, spokesperson for the Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate, tells Danger Room.

Hughes also disputes the assertion that Active Denial creates a burning feeling. “It’s an intolerable heating sensation,” she says. “Like opening up an oven door.” [end of update]

Webmaster's Commentary:

Oven doors, opened carefully, do not generally cause "an intolerable heating sensation."

If these weapons are being "tested" in Afghanistan, I would almost bet that they will be deployed right her in the USA for any kind of domestic unrest.

One has to wonder as to which entities in the US are actually buying these, and when the delivery dates are for those purchases: having that intel would provide a pretty good indicator as to just when the Federal government expects things to unravel.

Who would have thought one million pills of ecstasy would come into the United States in the pockets and suitcases of Hasidic Jews? Improbable as it seems, Holy Rollers, the new film starring Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Bartha explores a period in 1998 when young Hasidic teenagers acted as mules to smuggle drugs between New York and Amsterdam.
Perhaps as a reaction to the film's discussion of drug-running out of what is thought to be an Orthodox community, Holy Rollers has recently come under fire as to whether its portrayal of the Hasidic community is accurate.

How The Ultimate BP Gulf Disaster Could Kill Millions

...Death from the depths

With the emerging evidence of fissures, the quiet fear now is the methane bubble rupturing the seabed and exploding into the Gulf waters. If the bubble escapes, every ship, drilling rig and structure within the region of the bubble will instantaneously sink. All the workers, engineers, Coast Guard personnel and marine biologists measuring the oil plumes' advance will instantly perish...

He Should Have Kept His Mouth Shut

The French have a phrase, “He missed an excellent opportunity to keep his mouth shut.” That’s certainly true of Obama last Tuesday when he rolled out a big gun from the arsenal of White House crisis management, an Oval Office address. Excluding FDR’s radio chats of the 1930s, there’s scant evidence across the past forty years that as a venue for rallying the nation, the presidential sanctum did Obama’s predecessors as president much good. In Obama’s case many of his stoutest supporters in the press could say little in its favor. Obama would have been advised to say nothing and leave the nation to the evening's main business, the NBA playoffs.

Official: Justice Department plans to sue over Arizona law

Webmaster's Commentary:

Okay, so let me see if I have this right. The US Government says it is okay for Israel to attack and kill humanitarian aid works (including Americans) outside the borders to Gaza, yet Arizona is to be blocked from keeping Mexican drug criminals from crossing over into their state?

Does that make any sense at all to anyone?

Israel's propaganda war

Israel's ability to shape public opinion regarding the flotilla massacre is intimately linked to its long-standing campaign to manipulate global public perceptions of what has been happening in Palestine all along since Israel's birth in 1947.

Its policy remains consistent. It is a successful strategy always focusing on Jewish victimhood. The success is rooted in a political reality. Where knowledge is limited, and the desire and means to learn and understand the complex reality or issues doesn't exist, public opinion can be manipulated and shaped by whoever generates the most powerful symbols.

Texas Rep. Joe Barton apologizes for apologizing to BP CEO Tony Hayward over '$20B shakedown'

Webmaster's Commentary:

Barton defended BP and gets pounded in the media, but is his defense of BP any less vile or corrupt than the numerous congresscritters who defended Israel after Israel attacked Americans in international waters? At least BP can claim they did not intend the damage; the IDF pumped four bullets into that 19 year old kid from New York!

ISRAEL: STOP ME BEFORE I KILL AGAIN!

Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations Gabriela Shalev sent a letter on Friday to UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon and President of the UN Security Council, Mexican Permanent Representative to the UN Claude Heller, warning that Lebanese aid ships scheduled to set sail toward Gaza on Sunday could "affect the peace and security of the region."

Vietnamese Purchasing More Gold Than Any Other People On The Planet

Buying 500 Vietnamese taels of gold, a large but not exceptional purchase equivalent to a little under 19 kilogrammes, takes more than 2.5 times that weight in local bank notes...

...Per dollar of income, the Vietnamese consume more gold on average than anyone else on earth: in 2009, more than twice as much as Indians, 10 times as much as Chinese and 44 times as much as Americans, according to World Gold Council data...

Greenspan Says U.S. May Soon Reach Borrowing Limit

Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan said the U.S. may soon face higher borrowing costs on its swelling debt and called for a “tectonic shift” in fiscal policy to contain borrowing.

“Perceptions of a large U.S. borrowing capacity are misleading,” and current long-term bond yields are masking America’s debt challenge, Greenspan wrote in an opinion piece posted on the Wall Street Journal’s website. “Long-term rate increases can emerge with unexpected suddenness,” such as the 4 percentage point surge over four months in 1979-80, he said.

$7-a-gallon gas?

President Obama has a solution to the Gulf oil spill: $7-a-gallon gas.

That's a Harvard University study's estimate of the per-gallon price of the president's global-warming agenda. And Obama made clear this week that this agenda is a part of his plan for addressing the Gulf mess.

So what does global-warming legislation have to do with the oil spill?

Good question, because such measures wouldn't do a thing to clean up the oil or fix the problems that led to the leak.

Alert Issued for 17 Afghan Military Members AWOL From U.S. Air Force Base

nationwide alert has been issued for 17 members of the Afghan military who have gone AWOL from a Texas Air Force base. The foreign military officers were training to become pilots in Lackland Texas, reports FoxNews. The Afghan officers and enlisted men have security badges that give them access to secure U.S. defense installations.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This feels like a set-up for a new staged "False Flag" attack. Israel is desperate for some event to demonize Muslims again and Obama needs an event to rebuild support for the Afghanistan war, and the Us Government as a whole needs a new major war or they head into the November campaign season running on the economy and the oil disaster and protecting a foreign nation that attacks Americans in international waters.

Masked Attack

On Saturday morning, 30 to 35 masked Israeli settlers stormed the village of At-Tuwani in the South Hebron Hills. Armed with metal clubs, slingshots, knives, and stones, the attackers targeted the house closest to the edge of the woods. International observers stationed in the village arrived in time to witness and document the final phases of the assault. Michael Carpenter investigated for Palestine Monitor.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What sort of Christians become Zionists?

Not all Jews are Zionists. Many reject the Zionist project and fight against it.

So why on earth would a non-Jew wish to be one? Indeed, how could a genuine Christian seriously consider becoming a Zionist? It has puzzled me for a long time. The two ideas are incompatible, are they not?

If you are as bewildered as I am why so-called Christians are persuaded to sign up to Zionism, a short paper explaining the phenomenon is available from Sadaka, The Ireland Palestine Alliance – see www.sadaka.ie. I found it very helpful.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If the Christians who have taken up the banner of Christian Zionism really knew what most Israelis thought of them, they would be appalled.

The Big Question: Should Barton step down over BP apology?

Barton was forced to apologize but is clearly unapologetic in his defense of the oil industry, from which he has collected more than $1 million in the last two decades. He didn't make a gaffe, or confuse anyone with his statement and strong views -- he apologized to BP, called the president's request a "shakedown" and said the matter was a "tragedy."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Just announced: Barton will resign his leadership post.

The Afghan puppet government is crumbling before our eyes. We must talk to the Taliban

As one of the tribal elders from the village of Jegdalek asked me: 'How many times can they apologise for killing our innocent women and children and expect us to forgive them?

'They come, they bomb, they kill us and then they say: "Oh, sorry, we got the wrong people."

'And they keep doing that.’

The British soldiers of 1842 met the same reaction in their day.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is time for the US, the UK, and NATO to get out of Afghanistan now, declare victory, bring their troops home, and negotiate with whatever government is left in Kabul for the pipeline and mineral development rights.

Bankrupt BP Sells Equipment to Israel, Israel Sideways Drilling Off Gaza

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel has no offshore oil. That was established long ago. No coast was ever more thoroughly explored. But Palestine, specifically Gaza, does have oil and gas. Hence the Israeli holocausting of Palestinians. Israel has the technology for sideways drilling however. And so Zion Oil & Gas is created headed by a Bible quoting Christian Zionist. "It is the fulfillment of prophecy," we are told -- and so you are contrary to scripture if you question how oil and gas suddenly exist where they did not exist 25 years ago.

WHO: Medical equipment still banned from Gaza

Bethlehem - Ma'an - Spare medical parts and replacements are, in practice, barred from entry into Gaza, or only arrive "after great delays," a World Health Organization spokesman told Ma'an on Friday.

Following the release of a report from the WHO on Gaza City's Ash-Shifa Hospital, the spokesman emphasized that beyond the impeded access to parts, engineers are unable to enter Gaza to service the equipment. "Life saving equipment worth hundreds of thousands of dollars has been held up in Ramallah for over six months," the statement said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is one of the thousands of reasons why the flotillas need to keep on coming, until the siege of Gaza is broken.

Twenty-Two Reasons Why American Working People Hate the State

Why does the rightwing attack on “Big Government” increasingly resonate with working people?

Liberals claim wage and salaried workers are acting against their “self-interest”, citing government welfare programs like social security and unemployment payments. Progressives argue that workers hostile to the state are ‘racists”, “fundamentalists” and/or irrational, blinded by misplaced fears of threats to individual freedoms.

I will argue there are many sound, rational, material reasons for working people to be in revolt against the state.

Imaging, Spy-Cams and Drones: The New Hi Tech Homeland Security State

As "gee-whiz" high-tech wonders seamlessly morph into "your papers, please!," more often than not in "new normal" America science and technological innovation are little more than deranged handmaids serving corporate crime and political power.

In the interest of "keeping us safe," the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) unveiled a spiffy new surveillance cam "that puts others to shame," CNET breezily reported last week.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The further and further intrusion into the lives of law-abiding private US citizens has nothing in the world to do with our safety and security.

It has everything to do with the government's panic regarding the possibility that the American people might, some day, wake up to the terrible realities this government has created for them due to colossally bad foreign, domestic, and economic decisions which only benefit the very wealthy.

The US government is attempting to prepare for the fury which will follow that awakening, and just what shape that fury will take.

Gaza-bound Lebanese women pray for Mary's blessing

Women activists planning to sail to Gaza gathered on Thursday near a statue of the Virgin Mary in south Lebanon to pray she bless their flotilla, christened "Mariam" in her honour.

"Mariam has begun to achieve its goals and aims, as Israeli officials expressed fear and sent out warnings and threats before deciding to ease the blockade on Gaza," said spokeswoman Rima Farah.

"The participants are committed to making progress and our only weapons are faith in the Virgin Mary and in humanity," she told AFP.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Israeli Navy may well sink vessels like the Miriam this time.

If this Lebanese group is on a Lebanese-flagged vessel, and it does get sunk, or if any of the passengers on this humanitarian flotilla die, we could well see a shooting war start between Lebanese Hezbullah and Israel.

Israel has been looking for some excuse to restart their war in Lebanon, and this could well be the set-up it needs for that to happen.

Gates: Iran Might Attack Europe With ‘Hundreds of Missiles’

In what must be among the wildest speculations of the Obama Administration, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates sought to defend a massive US missile defense system in Europe by guessing that Iran might fire “scores or even hundreds of missiles” at Europe.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Forgive me, but the more SecDef Gates speaks publicly, particularly regarding Iran, the more thoroughly convinced I am that he has gone utterly barking mad!

There is absolutely no logical reason that Iran would attempt to hit Europe militarily. And it is this complete absence of logic in Gate's public statements of late which worries me terribly that he has, in fact, become mentally unhinged.

Kick Ass or Buy Gas?

Even as the tar balls hit Gulf beaches, their tax dollars are subsidizing BP and so far, President Obama has not shown the slightest indication that he plans to stop their flow into BP coffers, despite the recent call of Public Citizen, a watchdog group, to end the nation’s business dealings with company. In fact, the Department of Defense, which has a longstanding, multi-billion dollar business relationship with BP, tells TomDispatch that it has no plans to sever current business ties or curtail future contracts with the oil giant.

While the president has been on the verbal warpath, the U.S. military has — with little notice – continued to carry on a major business partnership with BP, despite the company’s disastrous environmental record.
