“The story of its ruin is simple and obvious; and, instead of inquiring why the Roman Empire was destroyed, we should rather be surprised that it had subsisted so long. The victorious legions, who, in distant wars, acquired the vices of strangers and mercenaries, first oppressed the freedom of the republic, and afterwards violated the majesty of the purple. The emperors, anxious for their personal safety and the public peace, were reduced to the base expedient of corrupting the discipline which rendered them alike formidable to their sovereign and to the enemy; the vigor of the military government was relaxed, and finally dissolved, by the partial institutions of Constantine; and the Roman world was overwhelmed by a deluge of Barbarians.” — Edward Gibbon. The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, Chapter 38 “General Observations on the Fall of the Roman Empire in the West”

Colorado’s Democrat-controlled House of Representatives passed a bill on Sunday that would ban the sale or transfer of so-called “semi-automatic” firearms, a big step forward for the legislation after Democrats scuttled a similar bill last year.

The Colorado House passed the bill by a 35-27 vote. If the legislation makes it through the state’s Senate and Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) signs it, the Centennial State will join ten other states with semi-automatic gun prohibitions.

All 12 jurors have now been selected to serve on the jury for former President Donald Trump’s trial.

On Thursday, all 12 jurors for the case against Trump, where he is accused of allegedly falsifying records to hide “hush money” payments to former pornstar Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election, were seated.

Meanwhile, Judge Juan Merchan excused two of the seven jurors who had been chosen on Tuesday.

Speaking before the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee on April 16, Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro stated that the service required close to $1 billion in additional spending to replenish stocks of munitions expended in operations against Iranian and Yemeni forces since October. “It’s critical for Congress to pass a supplemental [spending bill] this week so that we could actually get the additional resources to be able to supplement those munitions,” he stated, and supported tying spending with military aid packages for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. The statement followed the largest ever air defence operation by the U.S. Navy’s primary surface combatant the Arleigh Burke Class destroyer, two of which were credited with multiple interceptions of Iranian ballistic missiles over Israel on April 14. The U.S. Navy and Air Force between them reportedly shot down more Iranian targets than Israel, the United Kingdom, France and Jordan combined, with the operation having seen the combat debut of the Arleigh Burke Class’ new SM-3 anti ballistic missile.

MSNBC host Joy Reid praised some of the Black public officials prosecuting former President Trump, saying Monday “my DEIs are bringing it home.”

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg was the first person to criminally prosecute Trump, and it was “wonderfully poetic,” Reid said. DEI, which stands for diversity, equity and inclusion, has become a hot topic of debate as conservative governments like Florida and Texas have banned such programs from college campuses.

“But for me, there is something wonderfully poetic about the fact … the first person to actually criminally prosecute Donald Trump is a Black Harvard grad,” Reid said. “The very kind of person that his former staff, the people who worked for him, Steven Miller, etc., want to never be at Harvard Law School. But he was. And he came out and graduated, and he’s prosecuting you, Donald.”

Via Greg Hunter’s USAWatchdog.com,

Back in February, when everyone was predicting a Fed rate cut, precious metals expert and financial writer Bill Holter said rates would be going up and not down.  Since that call, the 10-Year Treasury is up more than 30 basis points.  It closed today at 4.67%.  Now, Holter is still calling for higher interest rates that will coincide with higher gold and silver prices.

Why?  It’s called inflation, and it’s not temporary.

Holter explains, “Foreigners are backing away from buying Treasuries..."

"That is the only thing that has kept the doors open, so to speak, is the fact we are able to borrow an unlimited amount of money because we are the world reserve currency.

Foreigners backing away from our debt is going to lead the Federal Reserve to be the buyer of last, and then, only resort.  So, you will have direct monetization between the Fed and the Treasury.

What that will cause is a currency that declines in purchasing power.  It will decline in a big way, and it will decline rapidly.

So, what I am describing is inflation that turns into hyperinflation.”

But that is not the end of our problems.  Holter points out, “I do think it is going to get worse, and that means interest rates will go higher, and that will put on much more pressure..."

"  We are at 4.65% on the 10-Year Treasury now.  We went from 3.75% to 4.65% (in a short amount of time).  We run through 5% on the 10-year Treasury, and everything blows up. . . . The bottom line here is we are at the end game of a fiat currency.  Young people have never experienced high inflation. . . . Where we are this time around, Paul Volker (Fed Head in 1979) was able to raise rates to 16% or 17% and crush inflation.  He was able to do that because there was not a ton of debt.  The U.S. debt back in 1980 was 35% of GDP.  Now, it is 125% plus debt to GDP.  If you raise rates to 6% to 8%, you will blow up the entire system because much of this debt was put on during the 1% to 3% interest rate time. . . . The inflation is going to push rates higher no matter what the Fed says.

The FBI announced the return of several Revolutionary War-era firearms during a repatriation ceremony at Philadelphia's Museum of the American Revolution last week, according to CBS.

These guns, stolen in the 1960s and 1970s from around Valley Forge Park, were recovered following a lengthy investigation involving the FBI's Art Crime Team, the Department of Justice, and the Upper Merion Township Police Department. The agency is now seeking public assistance to locate more missing artifacts.

Special Agent Jake Archer, a member of the FBI's Art Crime Team said: "We were all committed to seeing justice — not just bringing the objects back home, but seeking a proper prosecution of those who perpetrated these crimes."

CBS reported that in 2009, an investigation was triggered when a tipster informed Upper Merion Township police about a gun, suspected of being stolen, seen at a local antique show. Although it turned out not to belong to the Valley Forge collection, this tip led detectives to probe the thefts more deeply.

They collaborated with the Museum of the American Revolution, which now holds the collections previously managed by the dissolved Valley Forge Historical Society, and obtained a list of missing items.

As the investigation unfolded, Michael Corbett, Scott Corbett, and Thomas Gavin admitted to stealing items from Valley Forge Park and the Valley Forge Historical Society, according to the FBI. They assisted investigators in locating some of the stolen artifacts.

The collaborative effort expanded to include the FBI's Art Crime Team, and together, they pursued leads on the thieves and the artifacts. Currently, the search continues for ten items: four firearms stolen on October 24, 1968, from Valley Forge and six other items taken from different locations.

The museum is actively working to refine the descriptions of the missing objects to include more distinctive details that may jog public memory, hoping that some artifacts might have been inherited unknowingly by individuals. The FBI and other involved agencies are still seeking public assistance to recover these pieces.

Scott Stephenson, president and CEO of the Museum of the American Revolution, concluded: "The fact is, the vast majority of people want to do the right thing."

Claire's Observations:  One has to wonder; was the "good reason" the repatriation to the museum, but was the  "real reason" that some of these weapons might actually still work, in the hands of someone who knew what they were doing?!? :-)  Just a thought, folks!!

Here’s the latest….

During oral arguments in Fischer v. US, Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch called out the Left’s insane double standards concerning other fairly recent events and tipped his hand about where the Supreme Court may rule in the latest Fischer v. US case.

Listen:

Supreme Court Justice Gorsuch nukes Joe Biden's DOJ over January 6th sentences:

Gorsuch lists multiple cases of folks who "obstructed a Congressional proceeding" without receiving a 20 year sentence.

ictured above: you don’t have to be an engineering genius to see where the two bombs went off inside the Murrah Building, on the left and in the center front. The two bombs that did not detonate and which were removed that morning (caught on local TV, see below), were in the back and on the right. Just ask yourself: if a truck-loaded ANFO bomb parked at the midpoint of the building right out front blew up, and it would of course go in all directions equally, which is simple laws of physics, then why did it only go to the left, towards 10 o’clock?

Also, where the people are standing at a right angle (like a backward “L”) is where the bomb-laden truck was supposedly parked. Bombs explode in every direction, including down into the ground. The supposed 2,800kg of powerful explosives would have left a huge blast crater 1-2 meters deep. There was no blast crater, because there was no ANFO bomb truck. It all blew up inside the building.

The other obvious proof that there was no ANFO explosion was the total lack of a toxic cloud of carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide, which are the chemical by-products of the process. At least hundreds of the thousands of people in downtown OKC, going to work would have been made sick. There was never a mention of this, because there was no ANFO bomb blown up outside the Murrah Building. Our leaders were prepared to kill a few hundred innocents to test bringing down big buildings, but not the open-ended massacre of who-knows how many uncountable thousands in the area.

If you did not catch it let me make it clear — Israel is now claiming that Iran targeted the Dimona nuclear facility. That is going to be Israel’s propaganda spin going forward to justify the reported attack.

Israel may just have committed suicide. The Netanyahu cabinet is betting that Iran is unable to launch a massive retaliatory missile strike and that its threat to respond if Israel attacks are just hollow talk. Israel is pushing the bullshit that “this is a limited strike.” That is not how Iran views this.

I have confirmed from a source with access that Israel launched attacks on Isfahan and Tabriz with drones. Iran was prepared. Its air defense systems, according to my source, activated and engaged the Israeli drones and shot them down. Looks like we are witnessing the start of a serious war in the Middle East. This is going to escalate.

Authored by Richard Porter via RealClear Politics,

Jury selection is underway now complete in the case of The People of the State of New York vs. Donald J. Trump, which alleges that the defendant lied to his own check register, and lied to the general ledger of his own company, when the invoice given to him by his lawyer was paid and recorded by someone else, and that the misstatement he made to himself in his own records was done “with the intent to defraud and intent to commit another crime and aid and conceal the commission thereof.”

It is often noted that this is the first time that a former U.S. president is being tried for a crime, although Ulysses S. Grant may (or may not) have been cited for speeding in his carriage. The federal government chose not to prosecute Bill Clinton, who lied under oath during a sexual harassment lawsuit and then dissembled again about sex before a grand jury. Clinton lost his law license, settled the case on unfavorable terms, and was sanctioned by both federal and Arkansas state courts.

So, this is a first. And let’s be honest about who is doing what to whom and why.

The prosecutor elected in New York County of New York state indicted Trump, after Trump announced his 2024 run for president, for allegedly violating New York Penal Laws 175.05 and 175.10 seven years ago.

That local prosecutor, Alvin Bragg, is a member of the Democratic Party – and the voters who elected Bragg and from whom the jury will be chosen support the Democratic Party. In 2016, the people of New York County voted 87% for Hillary Clinton and 10% for Donald Trump, and in 2020, 87% for Joe Biden and 12% for Donald Trump. In other words, the jury pool is chosen from one of the most partisan jurisdictions in the country – a place where almost all the judges are Democrats as well.

So the Democratic prosecutor elected in the second most Democratic county in the United States will try the former Republican president and current putative Republican Party presidential nominee before a Democrat-appointed judge and a jury drawn from a pool 87% of whom voted against him (and who are being asked if they watch Fox News or listen to talk radio in the screening process)

Claire's Observations:  actually, what appears to be happening is a full, and consistent retreat from the American concept of "Innocent until proven guilty" and placing Trump under Code Napoleon law, which premises that an accused is "guilty until proven innocent."

When Cornwallis surrendered to the Americans at the Battle of Yorktown, some historians say  that he instructed the band to play "The World Turned Upside Down."

Ever since the assassination of JFK , my world, and my understanding of what this country was, and was capable of doing, to remain a hegemonic power, got turned upside down as well, and has never been the same since that moment.  And all the horrors of all those wars this country has generated toward that end, have stayed with me.

I think this part of what motivates me to witness, as a Christian pacifist activist, to urge people to find peaceful, moral ways, with which to resolve both national, and international, conflicts.

However, some people don't want that, and are out for blood, literal or financial.  Remember that horrific, disheveled image of Trump's head,  courtesy of Kathy Griffith, right after Trump won the election?!?

The Demonocrats want that for real with this trial, and to shut him in prison for the rest of his life.

Kiev forces launched a drone at the training center of Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) again, but the attack failed, the facility announced on April 18.

“The Ukrainian army has attacked the unique training center of Zaporizhzhia NPP again. The Ukrainian drone was neutralized over the roof of Building G of the Zaporizhzhia NPP’s training center, housing the world’s only full-scale reactor hall simulator. No one was injured as a result of the attack. There was no damage, either,” the facility said in a statement posted to its Telegram channel

The Zaporizhzhia NPP also warned that Kiev forces had been attacking the plant and the nearby city of Energodar for the last two weeks.

“They target both the NPP and its infrastructure facilities, thus creating a threat to nuclear safety. The Ukrainian attacks are a direct violation of the seven principles of nuclear safety and five principles of Zaporozhye NPP safety established by the IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency] at the UN Security Council,” the statement reads.

The Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) destroyed three militant hideouts in hard-to-reach mountainous terrain in the central Syrian governorate of Homs known as al-Amor ridge, the deputy chief of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Opposing Parties in Syria announced on April 17

“The Russian Aerospace Forces destroyed three hideouts, used by militants who left the al-Tanf zone and took refuge in hard-to-access areas of the al-Amor ridge in the Homs Governorate,” Major General Yury Popov said in a daily briefing.

Video footage posted to social media on the same day showed airstrikes by the VKS against militants hideouts in central Syria. However, it is unclear if these were the same airstrikes announced by the Russian Reconciliation Center in the country.

Itamar Ben Gvir, a notorious far-right Israeli minister, has called for the execution of Palestinian prisoners to ease overcrowding in the jails.

The minister said in a social media post on Thursday that applying the death penalty to Palestinian detainees was the “right” solution to tackle the problem of prison overcrowding.

"The death penalty is the right solution to the incarceration problem, until then - glad that the government approved the proposal I brought."

The remarks came after the Israeli authorities approved his proposal to build about 936 additional prison places to hold Palestinian prisoners.

Nuclear sites in the Iranian province of Isfahan are absolutely safe, the Tasnim news agency reported.

The agency quoted sources as saying that no incidents were registered on the country’s nuclear facilities.

Therefore, Tasnim refuted foreign media reports about an incident at a nuclear site in Isfahan.

Earlier, ABC television channel reported citing a US official that Israel delivered a missile strike on a facility in Iran. Iranian media later refuted these reports. Iranian air defenses shot down three drones in the central Iranian province of Isfahan, the country’s state television said.

Iranian news agency Mehr reported that several explosions were heard around 4 am local time in the skies over the central city of Isfahan.

IRNA news agency said that air defenses have been activated in several parts of Iran, and that Israel also struck military airfields and a radar site in Syria and Iraq.

Hossein Dalirian, spokesman for Iran’s civilian space program, wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that several drones had been shot down over the city of Isfahan. Iranian TV later said that three drones had been destroyed over the city.
